Pound this morning, Strength & Conditioning tonight. My fitbit wasn't holding a charge (it is pretty old) so I bought a new one. Now comes the challenge of trying to figure out how to set it up. Argh!!! Since I don't do in unless an old device dies, every time is the first time......a pain in the you know what!

Hi ladies - two mile walk with the dog. I am hoping to hit the gym this weekend and see if I can do some elliptical work. If I can get the arms moving maybe it will ward off any lymphadema.

Someone on my Facebook posted about Gabriele Grunewal right after I read about her here. She is very courageous

Portland's Springwater Corridor: I biked 18 miles today. Very pretty "rails to trails" paved path, surrounded by birds and bunnies and flowers and forests. I did my bike trip in the early morning (70-80 degrees, very delightful), but by afternoon it hit 95 degrees today.

My sister was visiting this weekend, and had a busy time showing her tourist spots...so got in lots of steps and had lots of fun...Then yesterday I took a work break to hike around the trails outside my office... and darn if I didn't trip on a rock and fall! The trail wasn't steep, but I was just walking fast and not paying attention...

The big deal in all this is that both of my knees are artificial, so as my doc says, 'you can do anything you want, just don't fall'... (among other problems, it is uncomfortable to kneel and thus getting back up isn't fun). But as it turns out, right after the fall, I realized I hadn't done any serious damage to the knees, but thought perhaps I broke a toe! Today, a day later, all the pain is gone from my toe though I have an ugly bruise (so, given the lack of pain, I am sure it isn't broken. Unfortunately, I know what that feels like...). But, I am generally sore, particularly my back and hips (which I think I rolled onto to avoid taking a hit to the knees)...

lesson learned: going to take my hiking sticks and good walking shoes even on short hikes and walks, and watch where I am going. In the meantime, I am feeling a bit sorry for myself and resting on the couch, though I'll be fine in a day or two...and especially feel a bit sorry for myself given that, unlike much of the west, the weather here in Northern New Mexico is pretty darn near perfect: sunny and warm with a cool breeze in the afternoon. Perfect walking weather. Sigh....

YIKES....Portland at 95!!! Hoping it is cooler when I do this year's STP. Last year, it was over 100F and if there was a hose to be found, I was under it. I finished anyway.

Did a run this afternoon, but very slow, as temp was in the low 80s. I couldn't get out earlier as was tied up with assorted work crises.

I learned about 20 years ago that exercising outside is extremely helpful in acclimating the body to heat. Important, as I don't have AC (and for some reason, never have had AC). It's cooling down now, so dinner (steak salad) should be a delight. Plus a cool night for sleeping.

Just need to assemble my salad and pour myself a glass of red wine. Tomorrow will be a salad with Oregon shrimp as will need to use up the amazing Puget Sound lettuce I got at the market on Saturday. Thinking of some cold asparagus as well. - Claire

    Nice pictures, Hiking!

Sorry for your fall, Octo, but glad that it wasn't anything worse!

You all would like it in North Dakota at the moment. 50s at night, 70s during the day. I took the puppies for another walk today, just because it was nice out. Lucky for me that I work0ut, because the 40 pound puppy got scared......she poked her nose in a box that some birds had made into a nest & several VERY mad (and loud) birds rushed out at her. Yikes, she took off like a bat out of hell! I had to anchor my feet and hold on to the leash as tight as I could with both hands or she would have bolted off! I was almost sitting on the coach with you, Octo.

*I'm still up because it took that long to get the new fitbit set up.

Glad you got your new FitBit set up, ruthbru, that can be such a hassle.

Claire_in_Seattle I would love to be w/o AC but alas I live in Kansas where our summers are brutal. With you on better temperature acclimation from running outside (although to be honest, I never mastered running on a treadmill so it's outside or HIIT for me!).

    HikingLady, love Portland--looks gorgeous!

octogirl, yikes! So glad you didn't damage your bionic parts!

Today's strength work for me. I'm going rogue and doing the workouts w/ planks. Yes, it might be early but I'm tired of little baby workouts. Wish me luck!

I went to the gym yesterday. Had a good workout. Today it is predicted to be rainy all day. Since my only transportation options are scooter and $ cab, I will be exercising at home.

I don't have a/c. There are only two days a year that I usually wish I had a/c, I can live without. I am allergic to housedust, and fresh air is much better than antihistamines.

MCBaker what area of the country/world do you live in? I've been fortunate enough to live in an area with mild summers (I was stationed in Germany while in the Army) and I sure loved that a lot.

Our winters are not quite as brutal as Ruth's, but we still have nice summers. West-central Wisconsin, not far from La Crosse.

I used to live in Lenexa, so I know the humid heat of eastern Kansas.

    Happy Hump Day!

Yesterday was Tabata at gym and a good long walk with dog. Today has been pre-run yoga, 4 mile run, another walk with the dog and a well deserved pedi.

Good job to all on all the workouts, runs, rides and walks!

claire- I love running outside but I'm alternating now between my treadmill and elliptical inside my home and running outside. We've had four days of heavy thunderstorms and it's still in the high 80s and low 90s. The heat has been brutal. We're not even in summer yet. I would give up my cell phone before I would ever give up my AC. The pictures of the beautiful bike trails are fabulous. In spite of the heat there isn't anything more refreshing then seeing all the flowers in full bloom and the birds chirping. Those sights and sounds never get old. Tonight I'm working out with my 8lb medicine ball and I'm going to do five miles on the treadmill. I don't enjoy running on the treadmill but one does what one needs to do.

Went to see Rocketman this afternoon. So sad to hear how awful Elton John's childhood was - but after getting sober he triumphed!

sort of steps for today, so probably won't get to 15, but hopefully will get to 12K

karen- I've known several people who went to sea Rocket Man with mixed reviews. What was your opinion of the movie?

Jo - I liked it, but DH not so much. At times it was a bit "heavy". DH thought it would be more of his concerts. It's really a bio of his early life till about 25 years ago. It's worth seeing though if you like Elton John.

I liked Rocketman, although it was a little different. Partly a biography of Elton John and partly a Broadway musical (with troupes of dancers etc.). It really explained how his sad childhood led to a need to be recognized & how much of his original flamboyance came from unhappiness. Thank goodness for his grandmother!!

    imageHi Fit friends,

My DD snapped this pic of my little DS and myself on the mat in the yard yesterday. Been running too but it’s school crunch time and reading final projects and exams keeps me in my seat for hours a day. Looking forward to summer break for more activity-still have 10 days to go!

Good to see you all active and well!!

Love the photo of you and your boy!

Did a 4 mile run again this morning--nailed aerobic and anaerobic thresholds so feeling pretty dang good. Definitely my best run since this cancer dx.

So far, the fatigue from radiation hits in the afternoon, which is my low energy time anyway. Hoping to have the rest of the treatments go this well.

    Falconer: That picture is PRECIOUS!

Hi Everyone! It's been awhile since I have posted. I've had good days lately dealing with my afib. Looks like my new medicine has finally decided to like me - knock on wood. The last 2 times I mowed were really hard. Had to keep stopping. Today I mowed for 80 minutes straight and could have kept going. Also, walking has been great!

Here is a picture of a volunteer sunflower growing under one of our bird feeders. Many more will be blooming soon.

    image

I also painted 2 metal sunflowers for my sil. She hangs them on a storage unit and were almost white because the sun had faded them. (Picture was taken on my couch)

Beautiful real and painted sunflowers! Speaking of which, I have the sunflower with a B that you sent me hanging right by my front door!

Wonder - the sunflowers are gorgeous - both the ones painted and the real flower.

Still cleaning closets and desks etc - tonight was looking at old pictures - my maternal grandparents, my mom and her brother as little kids (both passed away in 2018 - 8 months apart) and some of me and my brother as young kids - elementary to high school. I send a lot to my kids and my older daughter commented on how young everyone was (referring to me and my brother). yes we were young then!!! The scary thing for me is finding things in the closet that I didn't even remember were there - some from only a couple years ago and some many years ago. I found a CD ($ - that the banks used to do) from 1986 - and first matured in 1991. The bank is in Cincinnati. I need to call the bank and find out what to do with it. Can I do it long distance or do I need to go in person. Its just scary - is this still late effects of chemo brain - just getting older - not paying attention to when I put things away? Whatever, I need to come up with a better system - of when I put things away for "safe" keeping, I have some place that I record it.

Had lunch with a gf from work - a SLP that retired several years ago. It was great to catch up. Need to do it more often.

Going to email my brother pictures - the ones I have were at my folks and I got them when mom passed away. I think I have way more pictures than my brother does.

    Sweet dreams

Love the partner yoga pic, Falconer. Wonderland, hope the medicine and you become a real item. Lovely sunflowers. Karen, I think you can call the bank. I have done that with my dad's accounts. Two of them were already escheated to the state for lack of activity. One can apply to the state authority to get them back (by mail).

Salsa last night. Need to pack today as we go for a 3 day hiking trip with the doggo starting this afternoon.

HeidiHill, enjoy 3 days of hiking - and dog in tow - great! Falconer, love you and ds with super form. You are almost finished..what do you and family have on tap for summer vacation? Wonderland, good to hear that meds are working and as always, your nature inspiration applied to art is lovely. Cheryl, are you reading..if so how is your world in so.cal? Hey everyone, all the photos are terrific and thanks for posting.

I've been keeping head down and beavering away at classes and trying not to get too depressed - lumbered with political fatigue. Next month, off for a week in Bristol to attend a 100 hour yin yoga training. Letting a airbnb room from a woman who is a yoga teacher (unbeknownst when booked). This adventure will be interesting. Today, new music for bodyflow/bodybalance 85 will arrive in my LM portal, so, spare time over a few upcoming weeks will be spent learning that. Been studying in depth, pelvic floor, diastasis recti, and feet. That is what I've been up to. DS is home to celebrate Father's Day this Sunday with dh and I'd better scoot as teaching Pilates at noon and seated tai chi for Parkinson's afterwards, elsewhere. Have a good start to the weekend everyone!
