Two walks so far today - 15K so it will be a good walking day after my evening walk with DH.

Productive day - finished the closed in DD#1 room, closed in spare bedroom/office as well as under the futon. Can't believe how much junk I threw away as well as filling up bags to donate. Still need to tackle the roll top desk in that room. Should probably also do my closet but I think I will skip that and work on the crawl space.

My boss called me today to see if I could attend an IEP meeting tomorrow - but its at the same time as a doctor appointment. I told her if it was in the morning I could do it, but she was going to find someone else.

Want to go see Rocketman with DH - maybe Thursday or next week. Also need to get together with my gf who I worked with many years ago - I haven't seen them all year. One of my gf we walk, another coffee and gabbing for way too long and two others -

Another Running of the Pink picture, which I'm including for my fellow dog lovers. The dog in front of me is my friend's grandpuppy, whom we sometimes hang out with.

    jo6359, I know, right?

    • I had a 7 inch incision to remove a very oddly placed appendix, and my small intestine was compromised.
    • Two c-sections
    • One tubal pregnancy
    • Then I had my uterus removed.
    • Then scar tissue obstruction from the surgeries.
    • THEN I had an incisional hernia from all the surgeries.

I've got an L shape from scars on my belly plus five holes that sort of look like the Big Dipper.

This morning I got in a 4 mile run, and I'm up for day 3 for radiation this afternoon. Now I'm at work.

Edj3-Incredible. I cringe at the thought of all those surgeries. You are one tough person.

I finally had my ultrasound for the endometrial fluid found on the kidney/bladder ultrasound. All is NORMAL for a post menopausal gal. See nephrologist in August and both oncologists in September. Hoping the "blood" oncologist will put me on annual visits and also the nephrologist. My BC oncologist will probably keep me on twice year visits. Need to schedule my DEXA scan for late summer.

Making headway on the roll top desk - threw out so much junk - and found a couple envelopes with important papers - I told my husband that why it is necessary to straighten up every so often - in this case its been a couple years since I've cleaned off the desk. Now need to go through the drawers!! Then next is the crawl space.

I visited the plastic surgeon's office today. Will be having exchange surgery plus some adjustments to lefty. After, I went to the gym and told the head trainer that I wouldn't be allowed to do anything for two weeks after the surgery. Maybe recumbent bicycle after two weeks (another doctor's orders for neuropathy, no weight-bearing exercise). No upper-body work for eight weeks. I am frustrated because I want to lose weight, and had no success until I started going to the gym. Concerned that I will lose the gains in terms of strength I made since late last winter.

I overdid it on the recumbent bicycle without lunch, and nearly passed out. That is how upset I am, but I am tired of carrying a water balloon on my chest.

Recovery time from surgery is so annoying! But you need to do as ordered and you have a good base, Mcbaker & once you get cleared, you will quickly regain any strength lost. It will be a good thing to have behind you!!

I tried a new class tonight, Strong by Zumba. There was nothing 'Zumba-ish' about it. It was basically a really hard HIIT class with lots of burpees (one armed, click your heels in the air while down etc,), leaps, kicks, crawling around on floor in spider walks and other torturous moves. It was so far above my level that I couldn't even modify it down enough to make it fun for me. Since it wasn't fun, and I'd like to avoid knee replacement surgery, it's off my class list!

MCBaker - I know just how you are feeling. I started back running (after a year off) this past November. Was doing great, feeling strong and training smart. I had planned a few half marathons and even a full. And then cancer. And surgery. And now chemo. And I can just feel everything I worked for turning to flab. I guess w just have to keep the faith that we are doing what is needed for now and that our patience will be rewarded.

    DogMomRunner, with ya, sister.

At the risk of being repetitive, I fractured my pelvis a year ago from over training. Turns out I have osteopenia despite all strength work I've done all my life, and all the running. To add insult to injury, the bone I broke is one of the hardest to heal (and also the rarest to break, lucky me) and recovery takes a long time.

I had just gotten back to more normal running distances for me (although my times are crap) and boom. Breast cancer, biopsy, surgery and now radiation. I'll be damned if I stop running during radiation. It may be more of a crawl but I'm determined.

Dogmom and MCBaker- If you were active before surgery, radiation, and can do a little, however modified, then you will be ahead of all others who were not active. Your fitness will come back, I promise.

Ruth, you had me (out of that class) at Burpees. But an A for trying.

Yesterday I mowed 45 minutes and then did a 30 minute bike ride. I had intended to go further on the bike but the first summer heat and humidity had pretty much sapped my energy after mowing.

Beeautiful dog, ruth! How about half a class? I've cut classes halfway with Body Combat and Body Pump depending on my mood. Mostly I don't feel like doing the floor exercises.

Exercise is medicine, as some folks say, But sometimes it is a pain. That sounds like a royal one, dogmom. I am one who was also osteopenic. No surprise as I never did any strength training before my diagnosis. Fortunately once the estrogen was gone I managed to build up my bone density. Hope you will do the same.

    Salsa tonight.

Edj - my times were never great but I was actually doing better this go round. Just my luck. :) I hope both of us can get back to it. Maybe cancer will make us stronger.

TwoHobbies - thanks for the encouragement. Nowhere to go but up from here

Heidi, doing half of the class in basically what I did. Lucky for me, I have lots of classes to choose from & a flexible schedule; so I only have to go back to the ones I like! Speaking of which, I went to Zumba and Yoga this morning. I'm getting company later this afternoon so better get some stuff done now.

Exercise throughout chemo and radiation kept me sane. I didn't care that I was running slower the only thing I cared about was to keep running. I used the balance ball and resist resistive exercises at home. I still run almost daily but my times are much slower. If I'm being completely honest my times were consistently getting slower for five years prior to being diagnosed with cancer. Getting older does take its toll on certain things. I have always been uncoordinated so there isn't any way I can do Zumba. That's why I admire Ruth so much. She does all these incredible exercise classes and I'm like oh no I would hide in the back. But it does come back. If you were fit before it comes back quicker. Just don't be too hard on yourself.

I will have faith that strength will return quicker, since that is what everyone says. Thank you. If that is what I have to do to get rid of this water balloon, then that is what I will do.

Still cleaning off the roll top desk - there are all these little "cubby" sections and I'm going through them. Stuff I remembered when I saw it, but I could not have told you I had it. Still throwing out paper and today threw out a shoebox top full of pens that didn't work!!

Been good with walking this week - over 15K so far every day - 17k+ today. Now I just have to stop snacking.

Going to watch the D-Day special thats on at 9:30. Our local news station was having a fund raiser for freedom flights for ves - flying them at no cost and hosting them in DC to go to the memorials - just felt right to make a donation. Our vets deserve all the thank yous.

Back from a 5k+ wet run. The good news is that the hail wasn't that bad. So much for misplaced optimismHappy

Deserve that dinner which is leftover chicken with olives, herbs, tomatoes, and wine with a baked potato and roasted asparagus!

Have some gorgeous Syrah to drink with it. Sophie Dahl is right about braised chicken with olives being the perfect spring dish! - Claire

Rode a favorite trail yesterday til we hit snow line. The most amazing bloom of glacier lilies I have ever seen. I'm riding or going to the gym every day, feeling strong.

Just stopping in to say you all inspire me. Both in the exercise ideas and one of you is doing some great decluttering. I am doing that too. One day at a time as its quite time consuming. Next week DH and I take our vacation to Great Britain for two weeks. I've never been and I believe it should ramp up my walking workouts!

We lost my father last fall at age 95. He was at Normandy, highly decorated but "not a hero" as he would say. I miss him terribly and think of him particularly at this D Day remembrance.

Reader....just watch out for what they describe as a "walk". Think at least 10 miles across varied terrain. Though being Brits, the route will most likely feature a pub or tea room at strategic points in the "walk". Not to mention historic buildings/points of note.

Looking forward to my return trip to London in October. Last year, my friend and I walked 5 miles with dogs prior to meeting up with another friend at a country pub between London and Oxford. While the beer was welcome, the fire was even more so. Then all of us had lunch with dogs sleeping next to the fire. Afterwards, we went to visit the 13th Century Norman church next door. Just fascinating.

All of us had a good nap later and then dinner back at her house.

I shall return for a major birthday. I have been asked to help cater. I wonder why..... - Claire
