Thanks Ruth. The surgery went well. She will be in the hospital for a few more days, then go to rehab. The surgeon will check her leg on Friday - but DH does not know when. If all is well, he will most likely recommend rehab - not sure when DH is coming back till he knows when his mom is moving. I'm going to visit for the week-end and was really hoping he would fly back with me.

Karen I hope all goes well for your mil. These are tough days when our parents’ health are fragile.

I was lazy for three days but got myself back out today to mow the lawn and then get in a walk. The humidity broke so it was a beautiful day and I had no excuse. Plus my minute count for the week was at 108 and I try to stay above the 150 minimum they recommend. Up to 188 minutes now.

Karen thinking of you and your mil. Hoping the surgery and rehab go well.

Cycled 10 miles - keeping track with the MapMyRide app- which said I burned 366 calories. Then had dinner out because DD is going back to college today. Glad I burned a little extra juice beforehand.

    Happy weekend fit friends!

Got my training runs in this week. As expected, Waco was terrible with the heat and humidity. And now Kansas City has storms forecast on Sat (long run) and Sun (recovery run). I wish I'd brought my hydration vest with me, I'd do my long run this morning in Las Vegas. But I didn't and so that's not an option. It's too hot & dry to go w/o water alas.

Hello all...I've been traveling, mostly a work trip to DC, with a bit of fun time in Boston and Providence to see my son and his gf, and then came home to a series of deadlines at work!!! Whatever happened to things quieting down in August? I've been keeping up the exercise, mostly, with lots of walking....but don't think I can catch up on this thread so won't try. DId read about your MIL Karen, so sorry and keeping you and your family in my thoughts!

karen, hope the MIL recovers without incident.

Zumba yesterday and today some urban running from stoplight to stoplight as I couldn't find my bike key, had to take the tram to an appointment but somehow got on the wrong tram. So ended up running. Later walked the dog in the center of town. So many Chinese tourists. At least I looked like a local with my dog. We are going to a popup restaurant tonight. Really should burn a few more calories before then.

DH & I are at a music festival. I walked for about half an hour when we got here last night and another hour this morning. We are on a lake in Minnesota, so beautiful scenery!

I'm home and about to do a yoga or toning DVD. Here's what it looked like where I walked each day I was gone.

Got my training runs in this week. Yesterday was more challenging b/c I didn't get home until 3 AM that same morning. Gotta love travel delays. And I got rained on for today's run. Guess that beats getting sleeted on!

A pilates DVD this morning, walked the puppies, and Zumba tonight. I'm back to logging my food because, according to the scale, I have been a very bad girl this summer!!!!

Left Friday and got back this morning from seeing my MIL and spending time with my DH. My DD#1 and SIL arrived there last night for a planned visit with Grandma. My MIL was moved to rehab on Saturday (not a day to go to rehab). It was only 3 days after her last surgery (2 major surgeries in 5 days). MIL seemed to be doing okay over the week-end. DD said that this morning MIL was very tired and seemed off - and got worse during the day. Well, she has some sort of infection - white blood count is elevated - thinking UTI. She did not want PT/OT today as she felt so awful - the PT was so kind, she worked with my MIL for only about a minute so she could say she did something. DH is totally exhausted and worn out. It has been a real roller coaster. I feel bad that I left this morning - my DH was with me all the way with my parents (but by that time they lived near us).

Last Thursday when the float team met, (we provide coverage for vacancies and FMLA) it seemed like a relatively calm start the school year. Between Thursday afternoon and Monday morning things changed to NOT so calm - I really felt overwhelmed. I got off the plane at 8:30 this morning and went straight to work - barely having time to check emails. I missed a meeting with my boss and doing an interview - but I didn't know about them before the week-end so all is good. Today was the first day with kids - and already the crisis team has been activated - I was supposed to do 3 interviews tomorrow but I had to bag out of them to help with the crisis team as they don't want to pull staff out of schools the first few days. The custodian at one of our schools died in a car accident today so 2 of us are going to the school tomorrow to help meet with kids. My plate is over flowing for now - I love what I do but wasn't expecting . this chaos this week!!! By this afternoon I re-gained my equilibrium. Sorry for boring everyone with work stuff!!

Denver broke a record high today - heard 98 and also 99 as the high - either way - too HOT for my blood!! It was still quite warm at 8pm when I went for a walk. My poor xeroscape (sp) are suffering. And DH waterfall in the back yard is not working - not sure what is wrong so I unplugged it. DD was watering the flowers over the week-end so at least they didn't all die!

Going to try to go to bed relatively early tonight - was up 5am EST which is 3 am Denver time so its been a long day.

    Sweet dreams.

Oh my goodness, Karen. Wish I was closer so I can bring over a large cup of coffee in the morning (and a large bottle of wine in the evening!!). I hope you were able to get a good night's rest, and that it cools off there!!

This morning's run was probably the most miserable run of my life. It was 83F at 4:20 AM, with the heat index at 89F. I am not a hot weather runner.

Karen, you have a ton on your plate. I hope things ease up on all fronts soon.

Right now I am glad to be in North Dakota where it's a balmy 68 degrees at 11am! I went to Pound this morning, have a substitutes meeting this afternoon, and maybe will go to Barre after that.

The weekend was mall walking at the outlet mall looking for back to school shoes and clothes. It’s a good mall to walk at, very big with long corridors. Yesterday did the longest path around the lake, which is 58 minutes. Then did barbells and planks listening to music. Raining today so more shopping.

Karen, I hope helping others helps you in your crisis week. Boy, we had nothing like a crisis team when I was a kid, so be proud. I was just recalling all the incidences in my high school where we could have used help. One of my friends committed suicide after the first day of school-no help. A classmates older sister got killed by her ex boyfriend-no help. Another classmate killed in a car accident. Nada. We were just left to fend for ourselves.

Work is feeling more settled today - I think the stress yesterday had to do with coming back from my MIL.

My MIL was worse this morning and rehab called 911 to have her transported to the ER - the service they use would have been too long of a wait. My MIL has an UTI plus a little bit of sepsis. She was started on heavy duty antibiotics and seems a little better this evening - at least in regards to her orientation - she is sharp as a tack!!! My DH stayed at the hospital till 4:30 - he barely ate lunch today - a little 1oz packet of peanut butter. DD#1 and SIL took over for my DH. DD#1 helped feed her grandmother dinner. DH is coming home as planned tomorrow evening as long as his mother is stable - My younger DD will be visiting in a week and will help her grandmother however is needed. We rented a car for her (rather than take Uber back and forth). It really wasn't that much more for her being 21!

98 again today. Will wait till the sun starts setting to go for a walk. I walked before work and at lunch. Yesterday, I paced in the house till it cooled off enough to walk - plus several trips to water my plants. Denver is on record for the hottest August!!! Thankfully tomorrow and Thursday it is cooling down to the mid 80s then it will heat back up to the 90s again.

Going to go make dinner - spinach salad with tuna!

An article about ebikes in the New York Times. About time. I have had an ebike for 10+ years. I hardly ever drive anywhere except now that I am practicing with DD. (Hoping she gets her license before school starts but that might be a stretch.) Had a great group ride with friends last weekend, 3 with ebikes and 2 with regular mountain bikes.

Still getting over some crud so my exercise has been limited to doing housework and laying a bit low. But improving and this weekend should involve quite a bit of walking.

I laughed at the underwear article which I had not seen. Maybe it balances out with those of us who obsessively change underwear multiple times a day whenever we sweat (or glisten as they say in the south).

Nicer day temp wise today - and a little overcast. That all changed around 6pm when it started to rain - as soo as I picked DH up at the airport, the skies let loose with pouring rain and thunder. At times it was hard to see driving. It's been quite some time since I've seen a thunderstorm like tonights. It's still raining out so no after dinner walk. Thankfully I got a walk before work then during the day so I have 12+K steps.

    Sweet dreams

On e-bikes. Definitely the way the world is rolling. I do not need the NYT to tell me this. I have been tripping over them daily here in the Seattle area. Along with the scooters. In the past year, Limebike has changed out all their regular pedal types for e-bikes. The good news for me is that when I get to the time when I need one because I can't quite do it, I will have a wide variety of options. Right now, the Bianchi is the sexiest, but also comes with a $6k sexy price tag.

Meanwhile, I will opt for more exercise.

On underwear. If I don't get a foul whiff, who cares? That said, there are plenty of "air quality" issues out there.

I walked over 8 miles today between errands while I got new tires, and then up the hill to, and back down from, my oncology appointment. All is well, and this marks TEN YEARS since diagnosis. I celebrated with a pear and cherry tart at the French bakery next door, a glass of blanc de noir (below) at the wine bar, and now with more wine and dinner. My wine bar friend gave me a split of Brut for tomorrow evening.

    image

One other triumph, at least as important as the 10 years - my oncologist does not consider me to be a "geriatric patient". So I can continue to claim "late middle age". My take is that some of us extend this period of life much longer than the calendar would indicate.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. - Claire

Happy Anniversaries to the WWW and to you Claire. Well done!

Heidi I am woefully out of touch with the cycling world so had no clue about ebikes.

I am slowly regaining cycling strength. It took me a little less than an hour to ride 12 rather hilly miles yesterday. BTW I have only one pair of padded cycling shorts. Since LB brought it up, underwear or no when wearing them? Would you wear your padded shorts more than one day before washing them if they were your only pair? Smelly American woman, that’s me.

Yoga today. Then off to my classroom to see how the makeover turned out. My room is one of three at school to receive new furniture and technology. Before school ended everything had to go into boxes. So I have a lot of unpacking to do...

Claire, good on ya for 10 years and stick to yer story! Ruth so true to keeping it fresh. Falconer, hope the remodel of your room is better than anticipated. Go commando! Reader425, glad you smiled and hand up, (TMI ahead) I'm one of those obsessive underwear changers.

Been interesting this week of much substituting for other instructors on vacation and have taught yin yoga twice already and again tomorrow. It's a nuanced type of yoga (not everyone's cup of tea). This morning, had a small, older populations class of all seated participants, so taught chair yoga and seated tai chi for memory - that went over really well. DS went back to uni on Tuesday as he is busy working towards his final year project (product design - a bachelor's degree in the UK is 3 years). Off to Folkestone for BodyBalance/Flow.
