Hi all,
You guys are an inspiration to me! It felt so good to be able to do things again. Loved my YOGA class. Ruth liked what you posted about the effects of sitting. Being off the chemo for a week gave me not only energy but hope. My blood counts still low, being off chemo for only a week. Raked soooo many leaves on Saturday. Overdid a bit, I have to learn to pace myself. Start the AC with neulasta on Friday, will continue the YOGA, it helped so much with the leg pain I've been having. Have a great Monday. Only 32 degrees here in RI, predicating snow on Thursday. Being that I'm a snow god can't wait to see it. I'm one of the rare ones that love snow.

Glad you are perking up, Marta. I love snow too!!! Right now, I am hoping for a great ski season. Sorry that you also have to do AC. The good news is that with dose dense, you will be done sooner. Make sure that you get a really warm hat. I still wear the wool beret I found which also held my wig in place.
If you can walk daily, it will also help with chemo. - Claire

Marta, I'm seconding Claire's 'keep moving during chemo' advice. Whatever you can do now will help you bounce back quicker when you are done. My other advice is to keep very hydrated and take the anti-nausea exactly as directed. I also did dose dense AC; which was not fun, but not as awful as I had imagined. I found keeping to my normal schedule as much as possible helped keep my mind off of 'stuff'.
Today I'm committed to do a project that requires lots of sitting (which is why I've put it off), so I better log off and get started. Zumba & Yoga tonight.

Hi all:
Wanted to update you all on a bit more as to why I've been somewhat MIA....the ladies who came to Santa Fe know this, because I ended up not being there to welcome them, which was a MAJOR bummer!!
Long story short: after years of vision problems that started to get worse this year, I was finally diagnosed a little over a month ago with a benign tumor wrapped around my optic nerve, of all places (yes, it is quite rare). And while it is benign, they have to treat it like it is cancerous. It isn't life threatening, but it could cause blindness either in one or both eyes if not treated. I had surgery a few weeks ago (not to remove it, that would be too risky. Basically, the purpose of the surgery was to drill a bigger hole in my optic nerve cavity/tunnel in my skull, so that if radiation irritated the optic nerve, it had space to swell without snapping which would of course be bad)..... I was very nervous and scared about the surgery, and it all happened pretty quickly but actually the surgery was easy and I ended up not even having to spend the night in the hospital.
Next, the hard part, which started today: radiation. Yes, same old crap many of us know and hate: daily zaps for six weeks....
But here's the kicker: there was no medical team in the State of New Mexico with the expertise and experience to treat this. Not too surprising considering that it is a rare condition (maybe 1500 - 2000 cases in the entire US every year?) and that NM only has 2 million people. So, after lots of recommendations to go out of state, I headed back 'home' to California. Had the surgery at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, and having radiation there too. I rented a furnished apt for the duration and am here until just before the Xmas holidays, with a break at Thanksgiving. Work has been great, I am working remotely as much as I can. Hubby was here, now is back in NM, and will be going back and forth.
It is an ordeal. and it won't make it better, my vision will remain compromised in one eye...all of this ordeal is to keep it from getting worse! I am trying to look at the silver lining and will be visiting my extended California friends and family. But still, brings up a bit of PTSD to be treated by a radiation oncologist!
So...telling you all here on the exercise thread so that you can keep me honest!! As I discovered during bc, exercise REALLY helped with my fatigue and general mood during the rads slog! It will be just as important this time around. My apartment is about a mile from the Cancer Center where I am having the radiation...so as long as the weather holds (it has been very nice, California needs rain, but none in sight yet!). I plan to walk back and forth to my appointments. Did about two miles walking today. It is fun to get to know a new neighborhood.
Ok, that's the news from here. Exhausts me just thinking about it! Hugs to all...

Goodness Octo, I am so sorry to read of this. Sending you hugs and healing vibes. Hoping the wks goes fast with minimal side effects. Stay busy, keep walking and know I am thinking of you. Wishing you the very best during this hard time.
Martaj I too had AC along with Taxol but I had Taxol last. I third what Claire said continue your yoga and walk as much as you can. I did have some side effects from the Nuelasta shot. If you can, take the Claritin for the bone ppain.Wishing you the best too and hope the weeks go fast as well!

Ran 3 miles after work tonight and 30 min circuit when I got home. Planning to get up in AM to fit some yoga in and have my moms running group tomorrow evening. Hoping to get in at least 4 miles then.
Broke my new running shoes in by wearing around house the last couple days and took them out for a spin tonight when I ran my 3 miles. They feel GREAT!!!
Have a great night all!

Glad you have started the radiation, Octo (because that means you are closer to being done!). We will expect a daily walking report!
Yea about the shoes, Runner! A good reminder for us all to re-evaluate the footwear every once and awhile.
Besides Zumba & Yoga, DH & I took the puppies for a walk in a shelter belt this afternoon. The temperature was cold & the wind was raw, so we didn't last very long. We have had almost NO traditional nice fall weather this year. Boo Hoo!!

Ruth when I ran after work this evening, the temp was 26* with a feels like temp of 8*!! That wind was raw! You are right we had no nice fall temps and spring was pretty sucky as well! 😥

Whenever I post I also marvel at the strength and determination I see. You are all in my prayers.
Today I was at the hairdresser's and afterwards took advantage of the fall weather (changing to wintry at the end of the week) to walk 15 minutes around the area.

Octo, wow, you have been through the mill and pleased to read the tumor is benign. Thanks so much for letting us know of your plight and can well imagine PTSD rearing it's ugly little head as you traverse through treatment. Like the walking to and from and terrific that it's been good weather. There may be a time that you can't and please don't beat yourself up, if that is the case. One gym I teach at, the owner is going through throat cancer treatment. Like you, she has kept active daily and was fitted yesterday for her mask to start radiation. Hugs to you and DH, and remarkable of your being able to continue to work, with one eye no less!
Falconer, how much is a yoga class in your area? Martaj, good that you are keeping yoga and it helps you leg pain. Claire, glad you enjoyed London and took in Kew. Ruth, I've been filling in a flow a yoga class, whilst the hunt for new instructor continues. This is a big class and makes me quite nervous. Hope someone thinks I'm a decent enough stand in, like you do. Reverted to my yin comfort zone, ending the class with yoga nidra, last week and a bit too whoo whoo for some.
Working out a flow for tonights class, yoga for cancer late afternoon, exploring restorative poses and nidra, and Pilates at the leisure centre before that. It's also bonfire night and my birthday! DH will take me out to dinner at 8, all very low key. Let's keep at it!

Oh, Octogirl, I am so sorry to hear this news. I appreciate that you are looking at the positives but I can also understand how frustrated and upsetting it would be to go back. I hope that the treatment goes smoothly and that you are receiving excellent care. ❤️
LB, drop in fees are $15-17 and class cards are around $120-$140 for 10. The further south you go from here toward NYC the prices go up to as much as $25 per class.
No exercise for me yesterday as we had parent teacher conferences- we taught all day and then worked from 3-7:30- essentially a twelve hour day. Who ever thought to put that on a Monday night needs a good talking to. Today parents come from 10-3. 😕

Five miles this morning, with no heart issues. It's just so inconsistent (but I'm glad for a good run this AM).

Good luck on the rads slog, octogirl. Hope it is not too exhausting and it accomplishes all you need it to. I'm in awe of how you've organized it all.
Have been MIA too. But still exercising. My neck issues are resurfacing with the weather getting colder but hoping to keep it under control. I was on a long mostly business trip and joined a gym with personal training included. Very well worth it. Now I feel so lazy to exercise on my own.
Happy Birthday, LilacBlue!!!

Hi all,
Attempted "gentle pilates yesterday. Yes, I am out of shape. Feeling the burn today. Good burn. Like YOGA better. Walked the dog 3 miles, came home and took nap. Exhausted, these muscles haven't been used in 3 months

Happy Birthday LB.
I love yoga nidra at the end of a class and especially love it when we have an extended one on a day where it is 100+ outdoors...after 45 minutes of a class to have an extended meditation (our classes are 75 minutes) is a fantastic way to reset body and mind given the stress on body of 100 degree days.
Prices: Drop-in 24, 10 class pass 175, unlimited auto renewing 99 monthly, annual unlimited 999.
Off to Denver tomorrow...70+ here in Virginia today...not so much in Denver tomorrow, but the weekend there currently says low 60's. A girl can hope! TT

Happy birthday Lilac!
Thanks to all of you for the well wishes; much appreciated!
and my daily walking report:
Walked to and from the UC Davis Cancer Center where radiology is located. 1.2 miles each way; total walking distance thus far today is 2.4 miles.
Weather: perfect! Currently 77 degrees F and sunny, no wind.. oh, and thinking of you M0mmy: lots of trees with falling leaves in the neighborhood. It is a beautiful walk actually: all flat, and there are some truly lovely homes in my temporary hood. Many of them are craftsman style, built in the 20's and 30's (of the last century) and with all those tree-lined streets, just gorgeous! My only complaint: no coffee houses on the route! :-)
Working now, hoping to head back out later to get another mile or two in today....

Funny several have mentioned Yoga Nidra. Our new teacher from India just started offering that class at noon (just on Tuesday until she's done subbing for the other teacher). I went today and it was WONDERFUL! I also went to Pound, Barre, walked dogs, and cleaned out the garage. I sure love being retired!!!!

TT - safe travels to Denver. Wish we could meet up for coffee - but I work M-Th, so Friday is the only day and you are probably busy with your conference. The weather is up and down this week -

Happy Birthday, LB! 🙏🙏🙏

Happy Birthday Lilac!
The chiro office I go to for yoga classes is fairly inexpensive it seems...$13/hour long class or $22 for restorative yoga which is an hour and half long class. I usually purchase a punch card which allows 8-hour-long classes for $80. they offer the restorative class 1 or 2 x a month and then I pay separate for that when I can make it.
Ran 4.5 miles tonight with running group and did 30 min of yoga at home after my run. Now off to bed...sleep hasn't been great these past few nights!
Great job ladies! You are all so motivating!!

Did a 25 minute walk today. Wanting to get the outside walking in before the weather shifts.

Octo, I'm with you on the coffee and know of those charming neighborhoods in Sac, so sweet. Falconer, TT & Runnermum, those yoga prices are higher than where I live, 65 miles from London. London is much higher per class and membership and more in line with what you both are paying. Hey HeidiHill, good to read of PT addition and lol'ed at feeling lazy when doing it on your own Martaj, yoga is your calling and that is great. TT, & Ruth, nidra ending last night and one would not even take the class when she found out. She does not want to lie down - only to move yet complained my flow was too difficult, and the contrast with nidra too great ~sigh.
Thanks everyone so much for the B'day wishes! Off to get this sunny, bright, fresh day to start. DH off earlier in train to Bristol and flying out tonight to work the rest of the week in Poland, so it's me and dog Roo, holding the fort. Let's keep at it!

I love to lie down and do nothing.....so even if I didn't get anything out of the practice, I'd still enjoy nidra!!!
It snowed last night and, with the windchill, at 8:00 this morning the temperature felt like 1 degrees. Only two of our Wednesday Women walked outside, while the rest of us walked indoors. Here's a picture of the crew eating breakfast afterwards. I'll go to mat pilates at noon & then try to get some things done around here.

I'm one who ends up with a preferred spot. It's got nothing to do with opening my mind to new things and 100% about feeling safe in a room.

Wow, Octo! Sorry to hear your news. Hope all goes smoothly with treatment and your temporary housing.
Runner- I got new sneakers too and now I realize how worn out my old ones were.
Lilac- hope you had a great birthday! I find yoga Nidra so refreshing.
Falconer- conferences for us are Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving. After those long days the break is much needed

My district let us vote and we now have the whole week of Thanksgiving off! To make up for it we are not taking any days off for parent teacher conferences. We get out early on Thursday and Friday and were able to schedule conferences after school each day for the whole week. Also, I now have a Fitbit and I strive for either 10,000 steps or 30 activity minutes each day, or ideally both goals. I don’t post often but read for inspiration to keep moving. Thanks for keeping this thread going.0

Was not feeling high energy today so I did a fun "Sit and be Fit " workout from the 1980's that I found for free on Roku. It was an easy, stretching type workout, 30 minutes, that I really enjoyed. My new goal is to do something (anything) 5 days a week at least. This goal seems to be motivating me.
I enjoy reading all your adventures!
