Walked 2 miles yesterday, went for a swim, spread weed and feed on lawn and did some lawn work. Whew! felt good to get out and do some physical stuff. Did take a 2 hour nap after. Energy slowing returning, but tire easily. My sister surprised me and came to South West Florida yesterday from Vermont to visit. I was so surprised. We will walk beach when sun comes up. Slowly getting back to normal. Happy Friday

Ran a very hot & sweaty three miles tonight, temp was 90F and the humidity is gross. Ugh. But I was so glad to be able to run if only for three miles.

Cough seems to be getting more congested. At least its not waking me up during the night - went to bed at 9:00 last night and slept most of the night. Wondering if its time to see the doctor. But then I wonder what the doctor can/will do for me.

Sinus infection. PCP Rx Augmentin. I turned down codeine cough syrup as the cough is not keeping me up at night and I don't like codeine.

I am glad you went to the doctor, Karen.

edj, when do you get out of there??? Soon, I hope!

This morning, I went to Aqua Zumba, Yoga Nidra, and then zoomed out ran errands before the bad weather hit. It is now snowing, super-icy, super-windy, and it's officially a blizzard......so we are in the house for the duration (which sounds like most of, or all of, tomorrow).

A storm day and stuck in house just like Ruth. I ran last night outside and had boot camp after with my group. This morning I woke up to my phone ringing at 6am to let us know school was already cancelled, so no work for me. I had my coffee and then hit the track at arena to get 4 miles in and came home and did 30 min of strength. Blizzard warning for tomorrow still so probably no long run outside. Indoor facilities will be shut down most likely also. Planning for long run on Sunday now and hoping I can get it in.

Have a great weekend everyone! Stay warm and safe everyone getting stormy weather this weekend.

not sure if anyone watched the segment tonight on NBC news about Fargo Brewing Company featuring rescue dogs on their beer cans. The organization featured is where we rescued our dog almost 9 yrs ago. The video was posted on Lester Holts facebook page tonight. But here is a pic of our rescue on this cold night.

Got in a five mile run here. Boy, it's still hot and humid and the air is just not great. But this is Manila not-great, not volcano not-great.

Hope those of you getting the blizzard stay safe and warm.

runnermum we saw that last night and LOVED it

I rode the bike trainer watching a trashy thriller for an hour this morning. Then I went down to the Houston marathon expo -- so fun to go and take my time and not worry about being on my feet. Got to meet up with some folks I only know online which was great and also some other runner friens.

Did another 40 minutes on the bike trainer this afternoon. I'll watch the marathon tomorrow and in the afternoon we are going to an after party for some of the elites that are affiliated with the running camp I attend in the summer.

Claire - Glad you conquered the snow! Having lived in the snowbelt of NE Ohio for 35 years, had my fill of scary driving. One year, on my way to my parents', it was whiteout conditions and I went off the road. Very scary! After that, escaped the snow in London, England then moved back to Northern Kentucky. I have had enough snow for a lifetime! However, it is great to see it in the mountains, on my own terms.

Just got out of a hot bath, very necessary after about 8 miles of skiing. We had the most glorious conditions today. Powder, and I had waited until the roads had cleared to no worse than slush in places. I got my groove back on so I will be ready for the heavy-duty back country trails which are the ones that are really fun to ski.

The bath was necessary because I can't think of a muscle group that Nordic/cross country skiing doesn't really work. For example, it hurts to sit down at the moment. It also works quads, triceps, lower back and abs, all the leg muscles, and shoulders/pecs.

Not sure what I am doing tomorrow (other than work!) because it will be rainy and warmish. Perhaps enough snow left to go skiing on the golf course again. Not nearly as much fun, but just across the street. I need to be ready for my birthday bash ski trip in three weeks. Much more fun when I am in shape.

I was talking to a brother and sister today whose father did his last ski at 90. Not much of a ski, but he did it! That's my goal which I will hopefully exceed. Because this is how you stay fit and healthy and be able to enjoy other opportunities that life presents.

Have my summer cycling planned out. I think about eight major rides plus my Scotland trip. Now THERE is something I can be proud of! - Claire

I should start planning, too, for travel. I will most likely have to go to NYC to be with my brother who is undergoing chemo for pancreatic cancer. That means I'll have to postpone other travel plans. I've never joined any organized rides. I did do a 5K run for a pink charity event once. Will have to see if anything looks doable in NYC. Otherwise I'll do solo rides like one over the George Washington Bridge. Maybe lots of traffic and air quality there could be as bad as in Manila or worse (as with many places in Manhattan, Boston, London or Paris for that matter) but heck I can breathe again when I get to New Jersey. I've biked across the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge so this will be another one to check off. Next will be Queensboro Bridge.

DD and DH went for some off-piste skiing and left me with DC. Guess my exercise today will be mostly dogwalking.

3 mile walk on beach yesterday with my sister. Just before sunrise. Beautiful. energy slowly very slowly starting to return. 3 weeks out of chemo, taste still not there. Trying to build up some strength and energy for upcoming surgery in 3 weeks. Appetite slowly returning. Getting there. Unfortunately fly back to RI on Wednesday to start pre-op stuff. Cardiologist, blood work, radiopaque tag placed. I'll be busy. Just want this overwith. Radiation for 6 weeks to follow after surgery. Yoga on beach this am along with long walk with my sister.

Happy Sunday -- I started by watching the Houston Marathon. Boy did they have perfect weather -- did have a bit of wind in some parts but overall most people were flying and seeing PRs.

I did 90 minutes on the bike trainer with the last thirty hard and the last five just envisioning finish line at Boston.

I think I am healing well -- hate that my follow up is so far out.

Funny thing with this surgery is that each day my boobs look different

Off to party to honor some elites that ran the marathon.

    Looking for inspiration...

I am stage iv, recently diagnosed. I am fortunate that I am not having any pain or side effects so far. I am overweight by like 60lbs, but I’m on Weight Watchers and doing well.

The problem is I cannot get myself to work out consistently or at all. I have all the motivation in the world

    • Get as strong as I can while I can to handle any treatments/physical restrictions that come my way
    • I know I’ll regret not using my body while I can when things go bad
    • I have access to my home gym any time I want it
    • I even have an accountability partner and I still blow it off or half-*ss it.
I think I feel like “what’s the point?” the problem is there is a point! It may or may not help me live longer, but I can live a hell of a lot better if I get healthy now while I still can.

Once I get going I know I’ll enjoy it. What is wrong with me?? It’s maddening.

Does anyone have a tip, trick, or super motivational saying or mantra that helps you? I would appreciate some good workout wisdom

    thanks, Lauren

Hi Lauren! So glad you are here!!! Heart

Question for you: What type of exercise/movement do you like to do? It's obvious you have the desire to get active. That's wonderful! Now you need to find what you like to do and the last step is to just start doing it! If it's something rewarding and within your physical capability, you will actually look forward to scheduling it into your day. If it's something that's too hard, complicated, or intimating, you'll stop doing it. And then you're back wondering what's wrong with me.

We're all different! I like to walk/jog and do yard work (with help from dh). But I only like to do it by myself. I work through problems, worries, make to-do lists, etc. in my mind while walking.

Please let us know what you like to do. All of us are here for you!

Walked/ran this afternoon. 51 degrees with a light breeze. It was awesome!

    Hi Wonderland!

Thanks for the reply... I enjoy doing hand weights and spinning when I’m in the mood to do them. If I’m not in the mood, then there is not a force on Earth that could get me to do it, haha.

    And therein lies the problem.

I know I love working out once I get into it. I’ve done it before, I can do it again. It’s getting started that’s the hard part.

I can go into super beast mode if I’m in the right mindset, I just don’t know why I can’t get into that mindset, especially now that I have so much to gain (and lose). It’s like I need to flip that switch from hell no to hell yes and I just can’t seem to do it.

Maybe I need a bigger, more tangible reward. Like book a trip to bike Fiji in September and I need to train. (Not really, but would be interesting!) I can’t walk/run anymore (bad feet) or I’d sign up for a 5k somewhere. But even as I type this I’m thinking “Nah, who cares”. Ugh.

So at this point I’m whining, lol. I’m just going to listen and say thank you for any and all advice given and then hopefully join the thread with actual positive news!!

Ok Lauren, here goes. I CHALLENGE you to go to your home gym, get on your bike and spin for 10 minutes. Tomorrow. Do it tomorrow. Your reward will be to report back to us.

    You can do it!

So sorry about your brother, Heidi. But I am glad that you can be with him.

Martaj, the 'good' thing about surgery is that you feel bad & then start feeling better (as opposed to chemo where just when you start feeling better, you have to do the creepiness all over again).

Hi Lauren, I will tell you what worked to get me started. First, I committed to so many hours of exercise a week (which can be whatever you want), and then I marked those hours off in a notebook in 15 minute increments (as I figured I could do anything for 15 minutes). And I would check those times off as I did them. I am goofy enough that I HAD to get them all marked off by the end of the week (I had one goal for aerobics and another one for toning, but you could set it up however you want to). That got me moving even when I didn't want to (because if I didn't do something almost every day, I'd have to spend the whole weekend exercising)!!! Years later I got a fitbit, which is also a big incentive to me (plus if you plug in the information, it can help you with the diet part......and you can 'gain back' calories through exercise). I love classes so the social aspect of a class is motivating to me. If exercising with other people makes you more apt to do it, joining classes and/or meeting up with a friend for a bike ride (or whatever) can get you going. Coming on here and reporting in every day, whether you exercise that day or not) can be a good incentive too. I feel bad when I have to admit that I've done nothing all day but sit and eat bon bons.Loopy

The blizzard finally blew itself out so it was a Shovel & Sculpt day. The roads were horrible & my fitness center was closed, so after tossing snow for awhile, I finished my 10,000 steps on the treadmill and did a 15 minute ab DVD.

Lauren -- we are here for you -- I hope you make it to the gym but if that is not the case, can you start walking and working on increasing your steps each day -- master that as habit and it might be the right baby steps to get you back in the gym.

If running/walking are problematical; there are some really fun water aerobics classes, and some crazy-fun spin classes, and there's mat pilates (where you are on the ground the whole time). I've read that it takes 6 weeks of doing something for it to become a habit. Make a plan of things that sound interesting/fun, make a commitment to follow that plan for 6 weeks, and see what happens. It is actually kind of exciting because it is something in your control that you can do for YOU! Heart

Went for a walk this afternoon with DH, the first time I left the house since Friday afternoon. Hoping I can make another walk with DH in a little bit. Thankful for the long week-end and I'm hoping that I'll start to feel better before Tuesday.

Lauren - my Fitbit and previously my old fashioned pedometers are what keep me moving. I personally don't like the "gym", exercise equipment or classes...walking outside if my preferred activity and I'm my on best company - I do enjoy walking with my DH or a gf, but not with a group as I don't want to lolligag - if I'm going to walk for exercise, I want to keep up a good pace. That's just me.
