Lauren: Yes! You got it now! Keep posting here, even if it's just to whine and complain. We're all here to support each other in exercise, but more importantly, in life.

Ruth: Love the pictures. Is that a new hat or your NM one? Hard to tell in the picture.

Pat: Beautiful! Hope your shoulder continues to improve daily.

Martaj: I would have worn a mask also!

Walked/ran early this afternoon. It's suppose to rain tomorrow so I made sure I got out today.

    Yea, Lauren!

Wonderland, that is my awesome Santa Fe hat! I went to a very good yoga class this morning. We went to an outdoor concert this afternoon, followed by drinks on a patio overlooking a golf course, followed by pizza at a place with a Wurlitzer organ being played on a stage that rises up from the floor.

Good morning from Kansas! Against all odds, I made my super tight connection in Portland yesterday after an 80 minute delay taking off from Japan. And I got home before the snow hit last night.

Today I did 20 minutes of abs and 30 minutes of HIIT.

Welcome home edj...we are all happy you are safe and back in Kansas.

Lauren - Whine or wine as the case may be

Have been thinking about the 4 hrs of strength and 4 hrs of toning that Ruth mentioned a week ago...I typically do to 7-8 classes a week in a mix of yoga/pilates/core. Despite the funny names they have, I think I hit that goal most weeks or at least am in the 3.5 hr range. Always feel I can/should do more.

Well, when it rains it pours. My SIL with stage 4 lung cancer has had the radiation to brain tumor and starts radiation on the lung mass next week...and Tuesday was diagnosed with pneumonia...so much flu going around, you did the right thing with the mask Martaj.

    Happy weekend sooooooon. TT

Edj3- yay for making it home before the snow!

Wonderland- I have gotten 20 minutes each night on my treadmill! It's pouring here now! Expect it to go on u till late tonight.

Trmtab- so sorry to hear that your SIL has pneumonia!

Martja- I would probably wear a hazmat suit!!! Good idea with the mask!

Found my late MIL's snickerdoodles recipe when I opened her Betty Crocker cookbook - so guess what I'm baking!!

Off to a work meeting 1 - 3 (comp time) so don't know if I'll get back today.

Have a good Friday and Saturday!

Mommyof2 your post encourages me to post this: cleaned my office. Every bit counts as exercise. I've had a rough week in some ways and wanted to stay in today. So this worked.

I walked around our friend's village for about an hour and spent another hour walking around the beautiful man-made lake at Fountain Hills.

Had such a great day yesterday. Did YOGA in am, walked dog. had my grandson and made a left over kit of gingerbread train, went ice skating with him. Energy returning, taste also. God is good.

    Hi all...

Alas, I have been MIA for just a bit for a sad reason: my father died last weekend...he was 95 and had a long and very accomplished life, and his passing wasn't totally unexpected (at that age especially), but still, it is hard. I did get to see him in California the day before he passed: I was in California for meetings and detoured for a final visit. Got a goodbye kiss. All sad and yet heartwarming. Working today on planning a Celebration of Life Service scheduled back in CA in mid-February.

Haven't read all the posts carefully, but on the topic of skiing when older: below is a news clip about a friend of mine and what she did on her 100th birthday (she has since passed on). I went scuba diving with Elsa and other scuba buddies in Australia about 13 years before that, when she was 87 or so! An amazing woman...

    Welcome Lauren!

And Ruth has a Santa Fe hat!?! May I see another pic of it?

So, of course I've fallen a bit off the exercise wagon, unless you count all the running through airports I've done recently....but it is sunny here in Santa Fe today and I am planning a long, stress-reducing hike. Hugs to all!

I am so sorry about your dad, Octo. It's hard even if your parent has lived a long life. Glad you got to see him right before he passed.

I took a long walk, did a very good pilates/yoga class, and am now sitting outside reading a book. At Octo's request, here I am in the Santa Fe hat. DH says it makes me look like a hippie! I'm thinking more like a cowgirl....

Octo, so sorry to read of your father yet, so good you were there with him.

Ruth, enjoying the photos and welcome Lauren. Martaj, cute photo.

Off to Pilates in a bit and yoga later. Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!

Octogirl I am so sorry to hear of your father’s passing. Loss is so hard. Holding you in the light.

Yoga yesterday. Today planning cardio in some form or another. However I have to sit and finish grading midterm essays first.

Ruth I agree the cowgirl in you is more apparent than the hippie! Great look

Still icy outside and I don't run on ice. So 20 minutes of stability ball abs (it's super tough) and then 40 of cardio. Hopefully I can run tomorrow morning.

Octo, I am so sorry. I don’t think it’s ever easy whether or not you had them a good long time, whether or not it was expected of not expected. I am glad you got a goodbye kiss.

I hope to be the 100 year old snorkeling, although if I lived near the mountains I would be the skier.

I love your hat, Ruth. Maybe you need a fringe cowgirl skirt to convince hubby. Arizona pics are such a lovely change for me (looking at snow).

Yes we had snow so exercise yesterday was a 45 minute walk around the lake and then shoveling out 10 inches of slush pack at the end of the drive where the snow plow went through. We had the same heavy heart attack snow last weekend too and I didn’t have a heart attack so I got a free stress test!

Someone had made a snowman at the forest preserve where I walk which was kind of a nice surprise. Especially knowing there aren’t too many of us out there.I saw one snow shoeing and one biking.

So sorry about your Dad Octogirl. Losing someone is never easy, and I'm glad you got to see him.

We have been thoroughly enjoying Jekyll Island, going for long walks and bike rides. This year we seem to be doing more movement and less sitting around, which is a good thing, because there certainly is more eating and drinking too! Just one prolonged vacation. Our bike ride yesterday was the first for me in almost a year, and my butt certainly is sore today. And so is my shoulder - never realized how much shoulder was involved in biking, so I did a lot of stretches today for that. But overall life is pretty good.

Yes, on shoulders being involved in cycling. Plus your abs, lower back, upper body etc. Those are what keep you from falling off while your legs and butt are focused on getting you somewhere.

I did a 5 mile run both today and Friday, and got up for a ski yesterday. Amazingly, I didn't get wet doing any of this, as it's been bucketing down in between. I am off for my ski trip in about 10 days, and think I am fit enough to enjoy it.

On the "less of me" front, I can fasten my ski pants and everything else is starting to fit better. There is hope. But I will say that herbal tea in no way replaces a nice glass of wine or good IPA. The other thing I will say is that it's just a matter of staying focused to get the other 15 pounds off. But I am going to celebrate my birthday in style - there are limits to everything. - Claire

One must not celebrate her birthday with herbal tea (unless she adores herbal tea)!

Lots of walking today on a beautiful desert day!

    Oh gorgeous.

Ran 5 miles this morning--I used my chest heart rate monitor and it cut out at 3.11 miles. Oddly, my wrist monitor showed a massive (non-existent) heart rate spike. Think I'll keep using that chest strap.

Yesterday I took the little DS roller skating again. I too couldn't button my ski pants when we tried to go sledding last weekend. Some of you have heard this on another thread so you know how ugggh it is.

Going on the treadmill now as it's cold and gray gross outside.

Heidi, your photo is the opposite of the view out of my window today. Gorgeous
