Heidi...so sorry about your brother. As for cycling in NY in May, there is the 5 Boro which I think I did three times. However, the real sport is not getting injured in a crash as something like 40,000 participants. If Joe Causi is the emcee, I know him from a former life. I am thrilled that he finally made it in radio. It took a bit of time for him to live the dream, but he got there!

I will say that NY drivers don't exactly have the "share the road" concept down.

Lauren....if I had to rely on gyms, I would never exercise. I love being outdoors, so it's cycling, skiing, walking, hiking, and swimming depending on the season. I swim in lakes or rivers as despise pools. Sometimes in the ocean which is a major treat. I do weights and crunches at home as the objective is to make as painless as possible. Fit in a walk today amongst all the work. Think I may go out for a quick stroll to clear my head from the work I just finished up.

Ruth...shoveling is splendid exercise. One hour of serious shoveling and you don't need anything else for the day. Take it from one who knows. (Not one of my ex's talents.)

    Karen...glad you are perking up.

I only got in 4 miles of walking today, but am calling it good after skiing yesterday. Really didn't have time to fit in anything else, and tomorrow is a work day for me. Can feel that my triceps are tighter post ski yesterday. Now THAT is progress! - Claire

OK I Suck big time!! You all have worn me out already. How do you find all this energy? Keep thinking about this exercise thing knowing I should. Do get out and walk some but not the champs you all are. I have to get my body in action. But this last year has been a hard one.

Lauren & beep7bop welcome! Breaking it down to smaller increments of time active can be key, just as stated in all the above, building up what you do over time.. Rewarding yourself is great, as long as it does not set you back. You don't have to start with cardio such as walking or running. You might try starting with lower impact activities like swimming, water aerobics, yoga, Pilates and tai chi. Give anything a go and let us know.

For me today, quite a bit of Pilates and yin yoga. Have a good start to the week everyone!

Edited to add: HeidiHill, thanks - loved the clip of George - skiing at101 and half - amazing! "Keep vertical, keep moving and stay positive"!

I agree with the excellent advice here for you, ladies. Start with small goals, and track those. Ruth's suggestion of a notebook and goals works well too, something small like a silly sticker on your calendar to mark that you hit your goal that day can be reinforcing as well.

Don't underestimate the power of walking. Yoga or mat Pilates will help you with strength and flexibility and require nothing more than a mat. You can find a ton of free options online. If you get overwhelmed by all the selection, we can make recommendations.

Yesterday, 2 mile walk on beach, 2 mile bike ride, nap then 2 mile walk in afternoon. Love the fact my energy is slowly returning. Still no taste. Just heard some terrible news. One of my co-workers and friend just lost her battle with breast cancer. I'm at loss for words. She was a warrior. She fought for 17 years.

I spent my entire hour of flexitouch pumping catching up on this thread. Loved all the pictures and so sorry to hear of the cancer diagnosis for TT and Heidi. (Hope ingot that right)

After reading all the post I realized that I need to do exactly what you ladies have recommended! Wonderland, can I join the challenge to walk 10 minutes to? I get over 18,000 steps every day but those or not exercising. They are chasing kids and being forgetful. I am continuing my Yoga class on Monday and have made it a few Thursdays. Bottom line.....I have the same 24 hours you girls do! I might have a few more obstacles (my girl and chauffeur to grandson who has a band event EVERY DAY!? and DD has starting taking college classes and I need to help her with the 2/4 year old to) so....time to let the floors go, laundry can wait, dinner might get a little simpler and I'm starting with my 10 minutes on the treadmill today. Also need to get back to rebounding. Before Christmas we got new furniture and my rebounder was disassembled and put down stairs and Freddie is the only one who has touched it since! There was a lady bug on it and he was smacking it around 😂.

I will report back this evening when I I flexitouch!

Karen- I feel ya! I fought a sinus infection for weeks before I gave in and got antibiotics. The head ache was the last straw! Finished 7 days of antibiotics and guess my immune system was so broken down I got a stomach virus. Be care when you get back to school!

Got in a five mile run tonight here in Manila. Ugh ugh ugh I do not like running in heat & humidity. I'm in for a real shock this weekend when I return home to freezing cold Kansas though.

    George is amazing!

Finally, rejoining the land of the living! Still not back to par, but I'll take any improvement. Still going to take it easy, but .I hope I can run a couple errands. It took 5 doses of antibiotics (2 1/2 days) to turn the corner.. I can't remember the last time I was this sick. I've had sinus infections before, but nothing like this - I think there was more going on. Hope to get a couple walks in.

    Have a great Monday.

I adore George!!!! He says he started his daily exercise program 30 years ago, which means he started at the age of 71!!! I recently watched a utube video of a 77 year old lady who does Crossfit every morning. It showed her throwing around big tires, bench pressing heavy weight, doing chin ups on a bar. She said that her goal is to be able to get up off the toilet when she's 90 (which sounds funny, but isn't). In the clip she poo-poos all excuses and says, "See you at the gym". So start where you are, sets goals, don't make excuses, meet those goals, keep going. We all want to say like George, "I'm so glad to be around for another year."

We have dear friends who winter in Arizona and every year invite us down for a week of fun in the sun. Lucky us, because this is the week!! We will fly out this evening and come back a week from Tuesday. I will be walking, walking, walking outside, maybe do some hiking, and whatever else one can do in the great outdoors. They do have a fitness center in their area, and if any of the classes fit into our schedule, I will drop in on them. If not, I don't care, I will just happy to be warm!! I am now off to dig out my sandals, capris and short sleeve shirts!!

*Checking back in because, by a miracle, I'm packed before we have to leave! We sneaked over to DS's this morning, dognapped the puppies, took them on a long car ride and a short walk (due to the fact that the windchill was still 20 below). If you want some fun exercise, get or borrow a dog!

This is what we will not be missing!

Varga: Too funny about the lady bug! Did you walk for 10 minutes???

Heidi: I am sorry to hear about your brother. I'm sure he will be happy to see you. Love the video you posted. George is amazing!

    Ruth: Enjoy the heat!

Karen: It feels so good to feel good again. Glad you went to the doctor.

    Beep: Welcome! You got this!

Martaj: So sorry to hear about your friend. Very very sad.

Lauren: Hoping to hear back from you. I've been thinking about you today.

Hi Everybody! Got good news at my urology appointment today (remember I had to have a kidney stone removed on Christmas Eve and a stent inserted). My x-ray revealed no other stones. So elated!

Walked/ran this afternoon. It was 38 degrees under a blue sky.

Wonder - great news. I had a follow up kidney utra-sound today as last year they found a cyst when nephrologist was doing a work up to see - cyst is stable so no more imaging. I got referred to nephrologist last year due to labs - so being followed - no symptoms, thankfully and hopefully everything stays stable for years to come

Still coughing up a storm - side doesn't hurt as bad when I cough - feeling better but only at about 75%, but I"ll take that. I don't remember having anything knock me for such a loop. It took the antibiotics at least 48 hours, till I started to feel human again.

Walked this afternoon and going for a walk with DH shortly - last week was a lousy steps week for me - think I only got 70+K.

Back to work tomorrow - short but busy work week!!

I keep saying that I need to do yoga. Last week I said I planned on yoga in the evening and I actually did 20 minutes! Then yesterday I did 30 minutes. So I think telling someone you’re going to do something helps you to actually do it.

Also, like Ruth, I set a weekly exercise goal and keep a log in the notes section on my phone of everything I do each day. That motivates me.

And I LOVE my Fitbit activity tracker.

Like others have said, I enjoy going outdoors so walking is my very favorite exercise. I think and pray as I walk, notice the trees and nature and try to release any stress.

Yesterday I also ran outside for 50 minutes.

I have a fitbit Versa 2, and love it. I focus on being active for 60 minutes straight, not 10 minutes here and there. So I go the athletic club here in my town and walk. They have a run/walk track, 12 times around is a mile. So I go for an hour there and typically get 3 miles in. I walk mostly and then jog a bit. Like keeping track of the stats on the fitbit. Not too many places have tracks, plus I only pay for using the track which is really nice, not signing up for a membership using the equipment, etc. In the warmer days I go outside, the track is real boring, although I do listen to music on my earbuds. The track is above a court, so pickle ball, volley ball and basket ball are played. Huge windows all around. Anyway that is what I do for exercise. I'm 65 years old and move pretty well. Can't get past 3 miles/hour. I'm working on it.

Got in a five mile run tonight before heading to work. I think that will be my last run in Manila--if I run tomorrow night before work, my running clothes won't have time to dry out before I pack and hopefully leave Thursday morning.

Of course Kansas City is on tap to get 3 inches of snow Wednesday and nearly 2 inches Thursday. So I hope I actually get home Thursday evening. It's weird to think I will leave Manila Thursday morning, fly for something like 20 hours and land Thursday evening in Kansas City.

I made it to Mesa in one piece. It's raining here today (better than snow), so I went over to my friend's fitness center with her. Did the treadmill for awhile and took a Strength and Balance class.

Hi, ladies. Jumping into this topic, as I am now retired and major goal is exercise. I have some wonderful Silver Sneakers (SS) classes at 2 different Sr Centers, joined LA Fitness (LAF) and also Cancer Support Community (CSC) classes. Yesterday, did 20 mins treadmill & personal trainer session at LAF - SS & CSC closed due to MLK Day. Today: CSC Tai Chi (have been doing this for almost 3 yrs) treadmill for 1.5 miles + some kettle bell "carrying" & stretches at LAF, then CSC Yoga. Feels really good to get things moving.

    Hello there Vargadoll!

ruthbru - Oh that snow! I grew up in the NE Ohio snow belt. However, after living in the UK (London) and moving back to the Cincinnati OH/N KY area, happy to be living in a much less snowy area. It sure is pretty to see the pictures, though!

Way To Go Vargadoll!!! That's great that you did that after being busy all day, cooking a big dinner, (and you forgot to mention the clean up). I would have watched a little tv and then gone to bed. Proud of you! Just like you did today, keep it up!

Karen: Wonderful news about your kidney cyst! Hope your cough gets better.

Welcome Celia! You have fabulous options to obtain your goal.

Hi LomLin! Glad you're here with us.

    Walked/ran this afternoon.

Got in 45 minutes of abs and legs tonight. No workout for me on Thursday, I'll be on the long flights home, hoping I make my tight connections and that the forecasted snow in Kansas City doesn't mess things up.

so jelly with the hiking . . . sure wish I had somewhere around here to do that.

So I'm still on the bike trainer -- watched another mindless movie while doing so this morning.

I did ask the doc (plastics) about also adding in elipitcal -- they said to wait until the post op -- regardless I can move my arms every which way. I guess they were focused on repetitive movements.

We have moved on to Jekyll Island, GA - the weather turned much colder, but we did manage a 4 mile walk today thru a state forest and then back along the beach - saw some great birds. Very relaxing here, we are here til the end of the month. Hoping for a warm up. I'll try and post a picture of our walk today. Still only walking for exercise, but my shoulder is saying "do your rehab exercises!"

    Hello everyone -

I came in here about a week ago, whined and complained, then split. I wasn’t in the best frame of mind :/. However, I do appreciate all the support and suggestions so thank you for that.

Long story short, even with all the motivation in the world, like saving my life, I couldn't get into the right workout headspace.

So since my meltdown, I figured out my dilemma and have been rocking two-a-day workouts, intermittent fasting, and kicking ass on weight watchers for four days!

    What changed?

I decided to lose 50lbs by my trip to Omaha onMay 6. That is a big goal, nearly impossible, but an exciting and achievable goal as well. I guess I don’t do well with abstract goals (safe my life) or small goals (lose ten pounds) I need big exciting results to look forward to and something I can really sink my teeth into and go all in. Even if I don’t make it to 50, I’ll get close...but I’m determined...so 50 is a real possibility.

So thank you for letting me hash it out in here and thank you for all the advice and being so welcoming.

    Let’s do this thing!!

Marta great idea on the mask and I love your sweater.

Lauran you go!! Whatever works is the key I think.

I took a chilly couple of laps around our lake today for half an hour. Enjoyed the winter beauty.
