Quite balmy here by comparison, Ruth. Happy New Year everyone. Just got in from a bracing walk with the most glorious sunset. Later than I wanted to get out but was finishing up one last project at the nonprofit. Followed by clearing off my desk and giving it a good wash.
Still a couple of minor items to do prior to turning everything in this coming Tuesday. But I am done with a whole new life awaiting. I am beyond stoked.
Promise to get out on skis tomorrow.
Zoom and champagne with East Coast friends in an hour. Just fine as the roads are icing over. I have salmon caviar and snacks for later.
Welcome 2022!!! - Claire

Happy new year everyone. I was able to beat the rain this morning and got out for a 3 mile walk. It helps me cope with the dark, dreary weather if I can get outside for some fresh air. I put peanut butter on my toast and ate while I walked. I just made it back before the heavier rain started. Now to take down the tree.

Happy New Year everyone. I hope it is a healthy one. Just finished my 40 min aerobic work out. Whew! Starting the New Year on a good foot. I hope it continues

Happy 2022! DH & I had a nice New Years Eve watching TV in bed with our dog chaperone! My fitness center is closed & you can get frostbite in 5-7 minutes outside.....so, I did a 45 minute indoor walking DVD, and have been chasing Bruno around & around the house just to give him some exercise!

Happy New Year to you all! I haven’t been on this site for a long while and it’s nice and inspiring to see you all here carrying on.
Mommy- keep up the great work.
I have been gifted a nice spin bike from a friend who upgraded to a Peleton and have begun to make my way back to a consistent exercise schedule. I haven’t been doing my beloved Zumba because the covid numbers are big where I live and the gym space is too small for my comfort level.Ruth-your temps and snow amounts are unbelievable. It’s like you are having winter for the whole country.
Karen- I hope those fires are settling down; it’s just awful about how many homes have been lost.
Claire- it sounds like you have big life changes ahead of you. So exciting!
Wonderland- I don’t really want humid but would happily take the temps NC has been having.
It’s been warmer than usual in CT but so wet and grey. I am in great need of some sunshine. Back to school tomorrow to see what havoc this virus has wreaked on our families.

Ginger, good to hear from you. I feel so bad for you, and all teachers, who are trying to carry on during this frustrating, frustrating, frustrating time.
I think it is actually supposed to be above zero the next couple days, so hopefully Bruno will be able to go outside and burn off some energy! I plan to go to Yoga this afternoon and I don't know what else.....some sort of aerobic activity.

We got about 6" snow Friday night into Saturday but it was bitter cold (well not compared to Ruth) - only about 12 for the high. DH and I did manage 3 walks for about 15K steps yesterday. I'm going to head out for a walk shortly - it's up to 30 degrees. It's supposed to get to the low 40s today - it's already 30. Thursday is supposed to be bitter cold again.
Almost 1000 homes/structures were lost in the fires. 3 people are unaccounted for. Such a senseless tragedy. They are now investigating the cause of the fire as xcel energy says no power lines were down (original thought for cause of fire). The winds upwards of 100mph made it impossible to do anything. Ruth - I hope your friend's niece still has her home.
Such a shock about Betty White. She was planning her 100th birthday party. She was such a class act.
Winter break is over - back to work tomorrow. It's been a relaxing 2 weeks, accomplished a fair amount in the house. I haven't checked emails all of break. Tomorrow is a PD day and I have no idea what I'm doing. No clue if I can work from home or need to report to my Monday building. Will wait till tomorrow morning to check emails - or maybe later tonight.
Have a great Sunday.

Last evening SNL re-ran the episode Betty White hosted 11 years ago at the tender age of 88. She was warm, sweet, funny, irreverent, and at the top of her game. You could see that the cast members absolutely adored her (as did the audience). It caused me to reflect that it is a high tribute to pass away at the age of 99 and have the reaction be that you died too soon!

My Pound class was canceled so I walked around the track for 45 minutes instead (with some ladies who are VERY fast walkers!).

Ruth - great idea. Tonight on ET, which I normally don't watch was a tribute to Betty White. So many great clips with her and animals as well as TV show clips.
Since today was professional development day, I worked remotely. Attended 2 good sessions this morning. I managed to walk at lunch then 2 walks with DH. A little dicey tonight watching for any slick spots.
Tonight and tomorrow is my mother's 4th yarzheit (anniversary of her death). On the English calendar its January 18th but we light the yarzheit (memorial candle on the Hebrew date. I miss her more with every passing day.
It warmed today (40s), tomorrow high 40s, but it will get cold again on Wednesday afternoon and more snow. Single digits Wednesday night.

Sending you a hug, Karen. I think if one is blessed with wonderful parents, you do miss them even more with the passing of time.....especially during hoildays & milestone days.
I went to Shift & Lift this morning. If the weather allows, I will go back to Barre. We are in a blizzard warning & then go back into the deep freeze.....sigh!

It looks like tomorrow should be fine for the drive to Coeur d'Alene as will get there prior to the next round of storms arriving. I can't wait to pick up my keys and start my new life's adventure.
Turned in my keys and computer at the nonprofit a couple of hours ago, so have finally closed the door on that chapter of my life. I look at the calendar from last year and still can't believe that I made it. It also looks like they are well on their way to a new direction where I would not have been a good fit. A good parting, and I did leave my ends tied up to the extent possible.
Meanwhile, just finished up a small project and have something else going on during the move.
Just loaded the car with light overhead and ice under foot. Quite the experience. I am calling that good for exercise today other than an excursion to the clothes drop for my shoes that aren't worth saving or selling.
Off in the early AM to drive the 300 miles to CDA (and camp out in my new place for 2 days). My new life awaits! - Claire
p.s. Mammogram from last week was just fine.

Exciting, Claire! Good luck with the move!

Claire- good news on mammogram. Safe travels.

I haven't been on in a while, but it's great to see how you all are doing. Claire, I'm so excited for your move!
I am...well, you can read my post on Tamoxifen and liver damage if you want a better sense of how I am in this moment. That said, for the purposes of this thread, I feel pretty good! I am about to wrap up my Livestrong program tonight and have my exit assessment on Friday. I've been doing Pilates Reformer 2x/week in addition to that. And in general, I'm spending less time on my couch. I've closed all three rings on my smartwatch a handful of times lately, and perhaps the most gratifying thing was that my husband -- who does not work out and generally gives very little attention to my workouts -- told me a week ago that he was really proud of me because he had realized that out of the last 8 days, I'd worked out for seven of them. And it was nice to feel like my work was seen. (Particularly when my number on the scale has NOT BUDGED. My body has changed shape, and I'm fitting into smaller clothes, and my liver has less fat in it, and my weight has stayed EXACTLY the same for the last 6 months.)
I've also started the YWA 2022 "Move" series. If you like yoga, it's online, it's never too late to join, and it's free!
This week the plan is to do YWA everyday, and I have Livestrong tonight, and then I've set up my bike on a trainer, put a padded saddle cover on it, and swapped out the degrading handlebar covers with nice, new, ergonomic ones so I can use it indoors to replace the cardio I was getting in Livestrong. I'm...becoming leery of doing my in-person reformer classes with the current Covid surge. I love those classes. And the studio has everything spaced out, people wear masks, and they filter the air and keep windows open as much as possible, but it's just feeling...maybe too risky. So I haven't signed up for this week.

Sounds like you have really been working hard, Saltmarsh. Good for you!
We had an official blizzard last night and now bitter cold has set in. Blah! Only two of the Wednesday Walking Women made it to the fitness center by our usual 8am time, 3 of us got there later, and the rest were still shoveling out (except the smart ones, they've gone south for the winter!). Here's the sky at 1:00. Notice the 'sun dogs' (halo caused by the refraction of sunlight by the ice crystals in the air).

Ruth - cool photo
Saltmarsh - ya you on your workouts.
After dinner I went out and shoveled, but there was only about 2" - it is still snowing lighting but we are supposed to get up to 6". Currently its 3F and getting colder. We didn't walk after dinner as we were worried about ice under the snow. Shoveling the driveway was a chance to be outside and get a little air and exercise. Thankfully, I got a 20 -25 minute walk at lunch.

Exercise for the day is done. Finished with taking all my Christmas decorations down both inside and outside. Now its pack it all away and haul it to the attic.

I am writing this from my new place which is even nicer than I imagined. Huge pantry (my friend Susan has pantry envy), nice bedrooms (one a future office), and a huge garage for Rexxie complete with a separate room to lock up bicycles, skis, camping gear and the like. Even room for a future kayak. Really pretty and functional kitchen.
I am very glad that I am doing this move in 2 stages, as I now know where to place items as well as confirming what to keep/ditch.
I have plenty of room for an herb garden in planters as well as my lounge chair and patio chairs outside. And I can store chairs in the garage over the winter!!! Got in lots of stair-climbing yesterday unloading my car as place is one flight down. Enlisted my friend to help with the one piece I couldn't move myself (glass table top for dining and a temporary desk).
I was very lucky to get over the pass when I did, as my trip was uneventful, though feared the worst from my trip through the Cascade Foothills. Anyway, the pass is closed until at least tomorrow morning. So I will return on Saturday, not Friday as planned. Hardly the worst of fates as I have a ton of work to keep me busy and bought sufficient groceries last night.
I didn't bring my skis, but I will be able to ski on the cycling trail that is just a couple of blocks away!!!! I will have to test the theory that it's possible to ski to Selkirk Abbey (Belgian brewery) that is just a mile down the road.
Will investigate a bit later today after I make a bit more headway on the work I am doing. Plus hope to set up internet radio later today.
Life is good. - Claire

Sounds wonderful, Claire! I am very jealous of the pantry!
I started taking down the Christmas decorations yesterday. I cleaned as I went along, so I didn't finish up until this morning. I went to Pound & will go to Zumba tonught.

The most important parts of a house to me is the kitchen, cupboard space and pantry. My pantry is in the laundry room - with top and bottom cabinets and counter top. I think it's the original counter top from 1963. There is a lot of room but not as easy to see as the one you have Claire. Happy to hear that the new place is even better than you imagined. Did you rent/buy unseen? How many units are in your building. Take pictures, inquiring minds want to know. Glad that your drive was good before the weather got bad.
It's warmed up to 23F. DH and I walked before lunch. We were amazed how many sidewalks were shoveled. Some idiot shoveled his driveway clean, clean but didn't do the sidewalk. We will walk later this afternoon then hopefully after dinner.
It's been nice having the extra day off. I haven't been the most productive other than shovel the driveway and sidewalk, clean my cook top and go for a walk. Just eating lunch at 2pm. Think I'll finish the kitchen so I don't have to do it tomorrow and a little baking.
Stay warm and stay safe

I didn't exactly rent sight unseen as I had looked at two similar units when I visited CDA in September. But each layout is a bit different, and this is a ground level apartment. I am renting, and this has a very high level of finish (think quartz countertops) for a rental. From looking around, I can say that I got one of the very nicest apartments.
Pictures will wait until I move in as very bare at the moment. I came with what I could comfortably fit into Rexxie.
I am so happy to be in a place with a diversity of ages. Was fun chatting with my new neighbors.
Just got in from a very snowy walk along the Spokane River. The most gorgeous snowstorm. Met a number of 4-legged neighbors who were having the time of their life.
Need to make some more headway on the report. Too much dreaming.... - Claire

Claire - you sound so happy - glad the unit is even nicer than what you saw in September. It sounds quite lovely. It is nice to live in mixed age neighborhood - that is how our neighborhood is - 20 somethings with babies to 75 - 80+. On our block we are one of the longer owners - 28 years. We are only the second owners of our 58 year old house. Other than spending lots of time in Israel when we retire, we aren't going anywhere - I love my house - have a great view of Pikes Peak and my kitchen is wonderful - the reason we chose this house. Lots of counter space and tons of cabinets, plus its an eat-in kitchen. I look forward to seeing your place once you are all settled.
My late parents retired to S. Florida into a retirement community and they loved the life it provided. Us, I could never imagine living in such a place!
Managed 3 walks today - almost 20K steps. That includes shoveling the driveway.
Baked cookies this afternoon - ones I haven't made in a few years. DH didn't remember them, till he bit into one. I'm also making brownies - I make everything from scratch - baking and cooking - except for brownies and then I make the dark chocolate fudge Duncan Hines and add walnuts. I make them in a pan that has 12 squares, but get about 16-18 as I make them smaller and that way every one is an end piece. I need to make more banana walnut chocolate chip muffins but I'll wait till Sunday. I like to have one with breakfast - this year I've been eating a small bowl of oatmeal, 4 oz OJ and a muffin for breakfast. Yogurt or cottage for lunch as they are easy to eat at work - I do snack in the morning so its not so low cal.Sweet dreams. Stay safe and stay warm.

My Fitbit informs me that I have earned a 'Pole to Pole' badge with 12,430 lifetime miles (since I starting wearing a Fitbit). It is sooooooo cold here that I think I've have been stuck on one of those poles!!! I canceled my Shift & Lift class reservation because I don't want to go outside, but am sitting here reconsidering it....burrrr!!

Claire- glad it’s going so well. Exciting times for you!
SaltMarsh- congratulations on sticking with the exercise without seeing progress on the scale. Too often that discourages and derails progress. I loved my Livestrong experience! I am concerned about going to the Y right now due to high transmission levels in our area.
Ruth-that just sounds way too cold to me. I honestly don’t know how you leave the house!
Karen- your baked goods have me salivating over here
Mommy- I plan to attack Christmas sometime today.
Woke up to 13 inches and still snowing out. Thankful for the snow day! My exercise will mostly consist of shoveling and clearing Christmas stuff. Started a runny nose and slight cough so keeping an eye on it as covid, flu, etc is all around me these days. Feels like I work in a petrrie dish. Blah.

I ended up going to my class. When I was leaving, I saw a friend was walking around the track at my fitness center, so I ended up walking for about 40 minutes with her. Karen, your baking sounds yummy. Too bad that I have zero willpower so would be eating 8 cookies and a whole row of brownies in one sitting!

Almost no exercise today, but major headway on the project. I am stuck here until Monday with the mountain passes closed and floods elsewhere. I spent a lot of today doing change of address for my various accounts. Then, I was able to order an electric fireplace for my sitting room. I got a wonderful substitute for the one I had been eyeing (same manufacturer) for half the money. Really glad too that I ordered the Chesterfield sofa a week ago while still on sale. Together, a savings of $1200.
Probably not the worst of things that the German Pastry Shop is closed until Monday. Though I would have wanted to sample their Idaho Potato marzipan!
I got a rubber bathmat today, but not for the normal reason. I am loving my new tub and enough hot water, but my right hand isn't large enough to grip the side firmly. And to make matters worse, I bathed in a lovely almond bath oil concoction from L'Occitane which left the bottom slippery. It was quite the adventure (and workout!) extricating myself, so I sprang for $9.99 for traction.
I need to further investigate bookcases and wine racks. Not to mention a snow shovel and bathroom hooks for towels and bathrobes (other items I need to purchase).
The sun shone in here briefly this morning, most welcome as this is my first place that will get lovely sun. I can't wait. I think I scored the best place in this complex.
Let's see if I get to setting up my Internet Radio tomorrow. I bought the Bose last year and have scarcely used it. But I shall need to now that local airwaves choices are limited. Much better than Shortwave back in the day. A way to reclaim my French and listen to classical music broadcasts globally.
Glad both apartments are on a hill. Still need to get to downtown CDA. Can't believe that one week from now, I will be here permanently. Quite the new life! - Claire

YWA "Move."
Tomorrow is yoga plus Day 1 of aerobic exercise at home, for which I'll be testing out my new bike handlebar grips and saddle pad. Fingers crossed!

Yoga, an indoor walking DVD, and chased the dog around the house. It's been so cold that he can only be outside a little at a time & so (like the rest of us) is a little stir-crazy!
