I somehow missed that today was Betty White's 100th birthday. Something about having taken on far too much at once and today was the date that it all caught up with me. I was frantically trying to finish up a report forgetting that the 20th is Thursday, not Wednesday!

What this means is that I am in extremely good shape as have most of the backend work and thinking done. This will give me time to think through the refinements and deliver something outstanding.

I discovered that they were fortunately able to rent my old apartment prior to the end of December. This means that my financial obligation was one-third what I had originally planned on with monies directed at the extra packing hours and boxes for the move and now things to store my loot. Put in a large Amazon order for garage shelves, organizers, and the like. While I have lots more kitchen and pantry space, I don't have a linen closet.

I also ordered a multi-pot lid which can live underneath the stove. I didn't have room for one before. But now, I have a home for my baking tins, so free space. No more grungy pie plates!

Glorious full moon this evening. Spectacular sky. Attaching a picture from yesterday's early evening walk....a true incentive to get out the door as just a half mile walk from here. - Claire

Karen: LOVE your photos! How special that your dh has them in his office.

YesIAm: I'm so impressed that you spin your own yarn! You possess a unique talent that so few people have.

Ruth: Sounds like you are feeling much better.

Claire: Pretty! Looking forward to more pictures from your new location.

Not much exercise today. I shoveled the sidewalk and also made a Swedish snowball lantern called a Snolykta. I saw one a couple of years ago and wanted to make one ever since. I placed solar powered lights in the center.

    Beautiful, Claire!

Wonderland, very neat & mysterious lanterns.

I went to Sift & Lift this morning. It's a good thing I did because we are now in the middle of a blizzard and everything is cancelled and shut down.... this will be followed by arctic air. What a long winter this is becoming! I did an indoor walking DVD this afternoon.

Karen, Claire and Wonderland - Enjoyed your photos.

Wonderland - How does one construct the snowball lantern? Very pretty.

Ok, RuthBru, I just have to know what type of exercises are done in Sift & Lift. Sounds intriguing.

Here is the official description of Sift & Lift:

    SH1FT and L1FT

SH1FT and L1FT is the perfect class for those looking to tone and burn calories! With the combination of body weight and light weight exercises, participants will experience a total body workout that focuses on functional fitness. No matter your fitness level, these safe and gradual progressions will help improve your balance, agility, flexibility and overall strength.

*the instructor concentrates on a different area of the body each class. Today we did lower body, repeating a series of exercises twice through (30 minutes worth) and then we did 15 minutes of abs.....two reps through the series of exercises. You pick what size weights to use (or not use weights at all) so you can make harder or easier.

Drizzle this morning and this evening - first day in a long time that I didn't get a walk outside. The school I"m at now on W,TH is an old high school building (1920s) and is 3 floors - so I walked to the 3rd floor one end hall to the other down the steps and a couple more trips. After dinner, I walked around the house and up and down the steps to the basement a few times. I miss the outside walk, but DH and I both wimped out tonight. It's 18F. Normally, we would have bundled up but didn't feel like it tonight. But also worried about it being slick out. DH is on Plavix and says he's cold now when he didn't used to be - either its the Plavix or by-pass surgery unclogging his arteries. Tomorrow it will be in the 40s.

Ordered 4 free antigen home tests from the government. Now want to get KN95 masks. I've been wearing cloth over surgical masks for a better fit. At least. in my office if I'm alone, I can take it off so. not the whole 8 hours with the mask on - but I wouldn't do it any other way.

Ruth - 18 with wind chill of 10 is nothing compared to your weather. Stay warm and safe

I am smiling this morning as done with the consulting project. My client just loved the final report, so that is in my rear-view mirror. This means that I can concentrate on finishing up the unpacking and on putting my electric fireplace together.

Dismal out with temps just above freezing and cold pelting rain. Boxes will go into my car later to take to the dump (or rather transfer station, but I prefer the 4-letter word).

The kitchen and larder are now mostly set up. I will say that it's wonderful to have potholders again and not need paper towels to protect from the oven. Even nicer to have ample storage for my pots and pans.

I can't believe that I finally made it to this point. Hoping to get out skiing this weekend. It's been far too long. - Claire

Pound this morning. Tomorrow we hopefully take off for a week in Arizona. We have vouchers from two years ago that are about to expire and friends in Mesa who invited us down for the week. They are vaxed, boosted & careful (as are we). Covid is horrible around here and bad there too, but at least we can be outside. We are flying Alligient in and out of small airports so are hoping for the best (also hoping to beat the next system which rolls through tomorrow...argh!!).

Have fun Ruth, I know how you look forward to this mid-winter respite each year...and how you have missed some recently.

Here in SE Virginia we have had a cold spell (20's) with 2 inches of snow...everything closed early!

    Stay safe/warm everyone. TT

It sounds like everyone is dealing with cold, winter weather; even down south. It’s been pretty cold here; definitely limiting my desire to walk outside. I hope you are enjoying warmer weather Ruth!

My Christmas gift getaway to Newport was great. We stayed at a cute Airbnb and it was so good to leave the at home to-do list behind and just relax. It was really cold but we bundled up on Sunday and walked around a nature refuge by the water. We were rewarded with seeing a snowy owl. It took off, flew around and landed on trees several times. So beautiful! The crashing of the waves and bright sunshine were rejuvenating. I am so ready for spring

We walked at a Reptarian Preserve today, one of my favorite places in Arizona (and ate on the patio of one of my favorite Mexican restaurants). It's a little 'cool' here (for the natives anyway).

Enjoy the sun and warmth, Ruth! And the good Mexican food outdoors!

May I admit that I hate running, especially on the treadmill? But after procrastinating all day (though good procrastinating, as I got a lot of cleaning and decluttering done) I finally got on it, and as always, enjoyed it. And am glad I did it.

Perfect weather today - 50s, blue sky and sunny. Two nice walks. DH is taking a class all day so he is stuck in doors. Went to the grocery - many fresh items were out of stock (meat, fish and a lot of produce) due to the strike which ended on Th or F. I did my weekly banking, and made peanut butter cookies. Not much else, but it feels good to not always be busy. Need to find some ore books to read as I finished my last one. I wish I could find my library card to I could check out books on line. I take it out of my wallet when I travel and didn't put it back in and don't remember where I put it!!!

Have a good rest of day.

Concluding a 31 day yoga challenge for January. Restorative yoga, so it has been much easier on the body and joints. It's helped me feel more connected with my body during times when I want to reject it with everything going on.

We just back from lunch and a walk around the path at Fountain Hills.

Since nobody's posting, I hope all is well but just busy. My exercise for the rest of the week will be an hour of walking in the mornings and being outside as much as possible for the rest of each day.

We got about 6" snow yesterday and more snow tomorrow.

It's been a hard couple weeks. My friend who was 90 that passed away 2 weeks ago, her son who was my age passed away vey unexpectedly on Monday - 11 days after his mother. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma just over a month ago. He was a very sweet man who took wonderful care of his mother.

Ruth - sounds like you are enjoying AZ.

My phone starts buzzing at 4:15 am - its my younger daughter and her dad and I panic. I answer the phone and keep calling her name. She texts me saying she didn't mean to call me!! It was 1:15pm her time. I almost got up, but said I'm not getting up at 4:15! It took a while to fall back to sleep but managed to sleep till 5:15.

King Soopers (Kroger Company) ended their strike on Friday - store shelves of fresh items are still hard to find. My son went to get milk today and they didn't have any gallon containers. The call stocking juice said they haven't had milk for 2 days. I hope that they have fresh fish tomorrow. Sunday the meat and fish counters were closed. I may just go to Sprouts instead as they should have fish, but it will depend on the roads after work as it is not on my way home.

    Stay safe and stay warm.

Mild temps and walks outside sound divine to me.

Ruth, it looks like you are having a great time.

Karen, so sorry for your loss. Two close together like that is very tragic.

SupportforAmy12- great job on completing that yoga challenge in the midst of all that’s going on. This is a great group to keep you motivated to continue moving.

YesIamadragon- way to go with getting on the treadmill and getting it done.

Once again our temps have dipped down to single digits and now we are apparently awaiting anywhere from 10-20 inches of snow this weekend.

I am dealing with some muscle spasms in my neck and back so poor DH will be doing more of the heavy lifting if we get a lot of snow. I had a massage scheduled for Monday but it was canceled due to the therapist not feeling well. I am just doing gentle stretching, moist heat and using my CBD cream. Unfortunately no exercise to speak of other than super busy school days.

    Have a great day

Despite living in SE Virginia, I am envious of your warm temps in AZ Ruth! Today I woke to 19 degrees, still before sunrise and when I left for school 1:30 later it was still 19! We are looking at another snow /weather event on the east coast this weekend, but hope we are far enough south to just get 1-3 inches...

Karen, I was so sorry to hear about your 90y.o. friend, remembering stories you have shared of her, and now to hear of her son...to sad and final.

Yesterday was the final tamoxifen pill for me and the start of the fall semester...big day ending any active treatment and starting a new season!

This is the first spring semester since 1988 (I know, yikes!) that I haven't taught my favorite/signature class, passed it off to someone else...I guess one more sign of my impending retirement.

With the new schedule at my gyms/yoga studio I have been making it 6 days a week since the new year...I have been pleased with that, even though the scale still reflects the Covid plus up of pounds, ugh.

Stay safe and warm all, TT

So sorry about your friend's son, Karen. A double loss for the family. Goodness, I sure hope they will at least give you two days to get the new teacher organized!

Ginger, maybe you should hire some to do the shoveling. It is an enormous amount of work!

TT, congratulations on being done with tamoxifen! I'm sad you can't be teaching your favorite class. I'm curious, what class is it?

More walking and lunch on a patio. We fly back to the frozen north on Saturday. I still get school announcements, today rural buses were 2 hours late (and running where possible) because it warmed up enough to melt some of the snow on the roads and high winds turned them into sheets of ice. Argh!!

    A picture from my walk.

Karen: So sorry to hear about the son's death. How devastating for you and all who knew him and his mother.

Ginger: Hope you can get relief from your neck spasms. I agree with Ruth. Hire someone if you can. DH and I finally hired someone to mow our yard during the heat of the summer. Best decision! We will continue to mow in the spring and late fall but forget those hot, humid summer months.

TT: Congratulations on taking your last Tamoxifen! How exciting for you!

Ruth: Soak in all the sun and warmth you can!

Been walking/running most days since last posted. We are expecting rain and snow Friday night. My dd has an appointment to try on wedding dresses Saturday morning. Hope we don't have to reschedule.

Well...I'm an economist. I teach Federal Reserve Policy (aka Money and Banking). It is very applied, the students read the Economist and Wall Street Journal, and after learning the theoretical economics (lots of graphs and equations), we discuss the long term econ/political trends/trade-offs/double crosses from Reagan/Volcker, Bush/Greenspan, Ben Bernancke, Janet Yellen etc. etc, now Jay Powell. It always amazing me when I am at an alum function and someone I taught in the 80's or 90's comes up to me and says how impactful my class was for them...but I think that is something all teachers experience.

In general I am a macroeconomist, I also teach mathematical economics (aka economics using calculus) which I really love, but is always good for a scrunched up face at a party when someone asks "what do you do?" Calculus and economics combined, oh yeah!

    Stay safe everyone, TT

looking to get back into exercise after completing chemo and reconstruction. Prior to cancer I did a lot of body pump- that les mills weightlifting. I liked to run, hike, walk.

Since cancer I feel like a different person. So I decided to try something new. I bought a rebounder or mini trampoline and have been doing workouts on that. A lot of research has been done on the health benefits of rebounders especially for lymphatic system.

Since being on tamoxifen and through the treatment I’ve gained some weight. My joints are stiff. The rebounder is so low impact and fun. It gives me that same high I got from running.

Wow, TT. I AM impressed. It's always great to hear from old students who tell you how much you meant to them. Makes it all worthwhile.

    Welcome, Monarch!

Another walk and a lunch with an old friend from home who now lives in Arizona and her adult daughter who was in my class many decades ago......and STILL remembers my birthday, so that is pretty good. We fly back to the frozen tundra tomorrow afternoon, but I will have time for one last walk and to shove a bunch of oranges into my carry-on bag!
