It sounds like everyone is dealing with cold, winter weather; even down south. It’s been pretty cold here; definitely limiting my desire to walk outside. I hope you are enjoying warmer weather Ruth!
My Christmas gift getaway to Newport was great. We stayed at a cute Airbnb and it was so good to leave the at home to-do list behind and just relax. It was really cold but we bundled up on Sunday and walked around a nature refuge by the water. We were rewarded with seeing a snowy owl. It took off, flew around and landed on trees several times. So beautiful! The crashing of the waves and bright sunshine were rejuvenating. I am so ready for spring

We walked at a Reptarian Preserve today, one of my favorite places in Arizona (and ate on the patio of one of my favorite Mexican restaurants). It's a little 'cool' here (for the natives anyway).

This morning DH & I took an hour long walk around the community where we are staying. Soaking up the sun and the mild temperatures!

Enjoy the sun and warmth, Ruth! And the good Mexican food outdoors!
May I admit that I hate running, especially on the treadmill? But after procrastinating all day (though good procrastinating, as I got a lot of cleaning and decluttering done) I finally got on it, and as always, enjoyed it. And am glad I did it.

Perfect weather today - 50s, blue sky and sunny. Two nice walks. DH is taking a class all day so he is stuck in doors. Went to the grocery - many fresh items were out of stock (meat, fish and a lot of produce) due to the strike which ended on Th or F. I did my weekly banking, and made peanut butter cookies. Not much else, but it feels good to not always be busy. Need to find some ore books to read as I finished my last one. I wish I could find my library card to I could check out books on line. I take it out of my wallet when I travel and didn't put it back in and don't remember where I put it!!!
Have a good rest of day.

Concluding a 31 day yoga challenge for January. Restorative yoga, so it has been much easier on the body and joints. It's helped me feel more connected with my body during times when I want to reject it with everything going on.

Yoga is wonderful in every way!
We just back from lunch and a walk around the path at Fountain Hills.

Just took an hour long walk this morning. Very much enjoying the break from winter weather!

Since nobody's posting, I hope all is well but just busy. My exercise for the rest of the week will be an hour of walking in the mornings and being outside as much as possible for the rest of each day.

We got about 6" snow yesterday and more snow tomorrow.
It's been a hard couple weeks. My friend who was 90 that passed away 2 weeks ago, her son who was my age passed away vey unexpectedly on Monday - 11 days after his mother. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma just over a month ago. He was a very sweet man who took wonderful care of his mother.
Ruth - sounds like you are enjoying AZ.
My phone starts buzzing at 4:15 am - its my younger daughter and her dad and I panic. I answer the phone and keep calling her name. She texts me saying she didn't mean to call me!! It was 1:15pm her time. I almost got up, but said I'm not getting up at 4:15! It took a while to fall back to sleep but managed to sleep till 5:15.
King Soopers (Kroger Company) ended their strike on Friday - store shelves of fresh items are still hard to find. My son went to get milk today and they didn't have any gallon containers. The call stocking juice said they haven't had milk for 2 days. I hope that they have fresh fish tomorrow. Sunday the meat and fish counters were closed. I may just go to Sprouts instead as they should have fish, but it will depend on the roads after work as it is not on my way home.
Stay safe and stay warm.

Mild temps and walks outside sound divine to me.
Ruth, it looks like you are having a great time.
Karen, so sorry for your loss. Two close together like that is very tragic.
SupportforAmy12- great job on completing that yoga challenge in the midst of all that’s going on. This is a great group to keep you motivated to continue moving.
YesIamadragon- way to go with getting on the treadmill and getting it done.
Once again our temps have dipped down to single digits and now we are apparently awaiting anywhere from 10-20 inches of snow this weekend.I am dealing with some muscle spasms in my neck and back so poor DH will be doing more of the heavy lifting if we get a lot of snow. I had a massage scheduled for Monday but it was canceled due to the therapist not feeling well. I am just doing gentle stretching, moist heat and using my CBD cream. Unfortunately no exercise to speak of other than super busy school days.
Have a great day

Despite living in SE Virginia, I am envious of your warm temps in AZ Ruth! Today I woke to 19 degrees, still before sunrise and when I left for school 1:30 later it was still 19! We are looking at another snow /weather event on the east coast this weekend, but hope we are far enough south to just get 1-3 inches...
Karen, I was so sorry to hear about your 90y.o. friend, remembering stories you have shared of her, and now to hear of her son...to sad and final.
Yesterday was the final tamoxifen pill for me and the start of the fall semester...big day ending any active treatment and starting a new season!
This is the first spring semester since 1988 (I know, yikes!) that I haven't taught my favorite/signature class, passed it off to someone else...I guess one more sign of my impending retirement.
With the new schedule at my gyms/yoga studio I have been making it 6 days a week since the new year...I have been pleased with that, even though the scale still reflects the Covid plus up of pounds, ugh.
Stay safe and warm all, TT

So sorry about your friend's son, Karen. A double loss for the family. Goodness, I sure hope they will at least give you two days to get the new teacher organized!
Ginger, maybe you should hire some to do the shoveling. It is an enormous amount of work!
TT, congratulations on being done with tamoxifen! I'm sad you can't be teaching your favorite class. I'm curious, what class is it?
More walking and lunch on a patio. We fly back to the frozen north on Saturday. I still get school announcements, today rural buses were 2 hours late (and running where possible) because it warmed up enough to melt some of the snow on the roads and high winds turned them into sheets of ice. Argh!!
A picture from my walk.

Karen: So sorry to hear about the son's death. How devastating for you and all who knew him and his mother.
Ginger: Hope you can get relief from your neck spasms. I agree with Ruth. Hire someone if you can. DH and I finally hired someone to mow our yard during the heat of the summer. Best decision! We will continue to mow in the spring and late fall but forget those hot, humid summer months.
TT: Congratulations on taking your last Tamoxifen! How exciting for you!
Ruth: Soak in all the sun and warmth you can!
Been walking/running most days since last posted. We are expecting rain and snow Friday night. My dd has an appointment to try on wedding dresses Saturday morning. Hope we don't have to reschedule.

Worked out twice this week and looks like with the storm coming Saturday, I will get more exercise with shoveling sno

Well...I'm an economist. I teach Federal Reserve Policy (aka Money and Banking). It is very applied, the students read the Economist and Wall Street Journal, and after learning the theoretical economics (lots of graphs and equations), we discuss the long term econ/political trends/trade-offs/double crosses from Reagan/Volcker, Bush/Greenspan, Ben Bernancke, Janet Yellen etc. etc, now Jay Powell. It always amazing me when I am at an alum function and someone I taught in the 80's or 90's comes up to me and says how impactful my class was for them...but I think that is something all teachers experience.
In general I am a macroeconomist, I also teach mathematical economics (aka economics using calculus) which I really love, but is always good for a scrunched up face at a party when someone asks "what do you do?" Calculus and economics combined, oh yeah!
Stay safe everyone, TT

looking to get back into exercise after completing chemo and reconstruction. Prior to cancer I did a lot of body pump- that les mills weightlifting. I liked to run, hike, walk.
Since cancer I feel like a different person. So I decided to try something new. I bought a rebounder or mini trampoline and have been doing workouts on that. A lot of research has been done on the health benefits of rebounders especially for lymphatic system.
Since being on tamoxifen and through the treatment I’ve gained some weight. My joints are stiff. The rebounder is so low impact and fun. It gives me that same high I got from running.

Wow, TT. I AM impressed. It's always great to hear from old students who tell you how much you meant to them. Makes it all worthwhile.
Welcome, Monarch!
Another walk and a lunch with an old friend from home who now lives in Arizona and her adult daughter who was in my class many decades ago......and STILL remembers my birthday, so that is pretty good. We fly back to the frozen tundra tomorrow afternoon, but I will have time for one last walk and to shove a bunch of oranges into my carry-on bag!

Ruth, it is so nice to hear you are enjoying the warm weather.
Welcome Monarch and I am so happy to hear you like your rebounder. I used one for years and it was a great workout.
As for me, I am working to heal (hopefully) a torn hamstring. I did it line dancing a few weeks ago and I have been physically down for a bit. After a trip to the sports medicine doctor in a wheelchair I had to hobble around on crutches for a few days until my leg was stable enough to put some weight back on it. I am now painfully working my way through physical therapy in the hopes I can heal this injury without surgery. I am still in a lot of pain so I don't know. I see the doctor again on February 2 to evaluate the leg. The physical therapist said this is a common sports injury in young athletes and they tend to heal really well. I know my body does not heal like it once did, but I am hopeful. I did ride my stationary bike today for 30 minutes so I was really happy about that. Plus I am more steady on me feet. So not back to where I was but it is progress.

Coffee, my DH pull his hamstring about 2.5 years ago. I remember how much pain he was in. He pulled in running. He finally head but he stopped running not to do further damage.
I ordered KN95 masks, size small on a gamble that they might fit. Nope too small. They are individually wrapped so need to figure out what to do with them. I really like the mast bit they were all out of the regular size. Silly me.
More snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Not sure of totals. But Wednesday temps will be 15F. Brrr. It’s was high50s yesterday and similar today. Meeting a girlfriend this morning for teas/coffee and lots of gabbing. I need the social contact.
Mask mandate is ending at the end of the week. Also ending vax requirements for large venues.
Ruth, enjoy you last bit of time in AZ. Safe travels home.

Woke to 12 degrees today...way to cold for us!
Karen, end of masks at school? Yikes. In Virginia we got a new governor this month who has rolled back the statewide mandates...gratefully our local school system has maintained the rule...but it means more folks are questioning and refusing. I think we will make it through this spring semester with our precautions and then we can re-evaluate for next fall.
Off to do my Sunday/pre-work week chores and will end the day with a candlelight yoga class.
Stay safe everyone, TT

I bought a treadmill last year because I'm finding it harder to walk on uneven sidewalks. My goal for now is to start slowly, with 20 min 5x/week. Some days I do 30 minutes. Working on it.

We got lots of snow but luckily much of the blowing and drifting landed on the lawn. DH did the rest with the snowblower.
My neck and back are doing better. We got out for a little snow shoe walk before it started bothering me and then walked on our road (without snow shoes) to complete our exercise. It was cold but we bundled up
The rest of the weekend was mostly filled with report card work. Back to school tomorrow.

Welcome, PrincessButtercup!
Yikes, coffee, hope PT does the trick for you.
Karen & TT, there have been no mask mandates in schools here this year.....which is one of the reasons that I decided to hang up my post-teaching subbing career for good (me & most of my other retired teacher friends).
Our return trip went off without a hitch & we opened the door of our house at about 11pm last night. Today has been spent getting reorganized and doing errands. Tomorrow it might warm up enough to to freezing rain so I hurried up and got groceries just in case instead of going to an exercise class. Mother Nature must be in a very bad mood this year!!

TT - at least for my school district no changes in mask policy - they are required. I hope it stays this way for the rest of the school year. Ruth I hear you about saying no more subbing. We are short on all positions. Our central office staff are spending one day/week helping in schools as paras or subs if they have a sub license.
Gorgeous day here today - same on Friday - blue skies and sunny. Funny, I don't remember the weather yesterday!! Enjoyed a nice long walk this afternoon.
I put up a big pot of split pea and barley soup with onions and carrots tonight. Thinking of making a big pot of chicken and barley soup with lots of veggies for dinner on Wednesday. We love soups, especially ones that are thick and can be a meal. Tomorrow we will grill chicken wings since the weather will still be nice. Have to figure out Tuesday dinner.
Hoping for a snow day or at least a late start of Wednesday. The forecast is 3-6" and 15F on Wednesday, but you never know how the storm will play out.
Everyone stay safe and stay warm.

last day of the month. Exercise achievements
Rowing: 84.2 miles
Walking: 12.3 miles
Biking: 243.8 miles
All above pace for my 2022 goals
I even ran .6 miles!!!!0 -
Great job, NotAsCalm!
I went to Pound this morning, did more errands, and supervised two doggie playdates. It's actually been a mild day. The winds/rain/snow/cold air are supposed to arrive later this evening. Now back to wading through the stacked up mail!

I was feeling lazy this morning and enjoying snuggling, but I still got up early enough that I COULD have gotten on the treadmill. But I didn't. So I had to tonight. Ran 25 minutes straight -- longest run since I broke my leg the year before Cancer. I do hate the dreadmill, but GBBO helps some. As my runs get longer though, it is going to be tougher!
I grade my runs by how often I bounce off the rails -- only twice this time. Have PT for balance scheduled now for the 11th. Not sure if I posted, the nerve conduction studies just confirmed polyneuropathy consistent with chemo-induced. Trying to keep up hope it gets better.
Tonight is cold, but we have a big warm-up coming for a few days, then maybe a storm. Hope snowstorm and not freezing rain! Over the weekend southern New England stole all our snow!
I have strength at 5:30 am tomorrow, so headed to bed soon. Have a great week everyone!

60 Monday, low 30s today and teens tomorrow with below zero tomorrow night. Snow stars this afternoon. Hoping for a late start if not a snow day.
Mask mandate expires on Friday. Thankfully school is still requiring them.
Stay warm and stay safe.
