LB: It's GREAT to see you❣️ I have missed you. Glad to know you're still teaching your classes. Really wish I could sign up for them.

When BCO changed this site, so many ladies left the board, including this thread. I am so happy that this week Heidi and Lilac posted! All of you are my friends and I love hearing what everyone is doing, not just activity wise. And I love having friends from all over the US and the world! 💕

Insurance denied a MRI for dh until he has 6 weeks of PT. He starts Monday. He's not any better and frustration (for both him and me!) has set in. Really hoping the PT sessions work.

    Walked this afternoon.

Lilac, so great to hear from you!! So glad you are still teaching!!

Wonderland, I can never understand why insurance wouldn't want you to get an MRI first, so they can actually be giving the right treatment!!

We had a fun family weekend. Lots & lots of walking around my brother's hilly town (which is on a river & has lots of Victorian houses. beautiful flower gardens etc., a fun family reunion with the cousins from my mom's side of the family. A Minnesota Twins baseball game (they lost) and a Minnesota Vikings game (they won), with lots of walking to get to & from the ballparks and up & down stairs once in the ballparks. The Vikings organization really puts on a fantastic show!

    We got home a 4:00 this afternoon & I went to a 6:45 Dance2fit class.

It was a fun, well-played game. Very few penalties on either side.

Dog walking & Barre for me today.

Yep! Was cheering for the Vikings as I’m caught in the border between the Packers and Vikings! I can Go Pack Go and Skol with the best of them!

😁……all my lifelong WIsconsin relatives are Cheeseheads! (For those outside of the area, that is a nickname for Green Bay Packer fans who often wear fake slices of cheese as hats at Packer football games.)

    Hi Everyone

Another month with a gap in posts for me. I have finally transitioned my mother to Assisted Living…for those who need a re-cap: 7/30 came home and mom was on the floor…ER/ICU/Hospital floor/Skilled Nursing Rehab…now AL as of one week ago. 6 places in 6 weeks…a LOT when you are 89+ (mom already claims she is 90 but not quite). She has a very nice one bedroom apartment which allows my sister and me to visit comfortably. There is in-house PT/OT and other services…I do have some work travel in Oct/Nov/Dec so have encouraged mom to utilized all the services and we will revisit in January. The cost is crazy…8,000/month…which mom's social security doesn't cover and at nearly 90, the idea you don't have lots of excess wealth doesn't seem all that unusual. I am pretty sure that at 90 most of us will need help…doing the best we can…but my ability to retire is directly linked to my needing cashflow to cover these costs.

LB…so nice to hear you on this thread. I hope you and your family have been safe. I remember your DH was in need of specialized medical care that given the NHS was limited. I have been holding you close.

Karen - yikes! what a procedure. take care and wear that boot.

Ruth and Wonderland - thank you for your diligent posts, I read, but frequently in bed on my iPhone…trying to keep touch with everyone even if my days at work and hospital/SNF/ALF don't allow posting.

Wonderland, I too think of you as my friends….tomorrow I am 9 years from diagnosis…lots has happened in that time.

Heidi, the NC beach area is Corolla…our family is in Duck (the next town)…our next family beach week is in early October.

It's after 7:30pm eastern, need to get dinner. TT

TT, great to hear from you too!! So glad your mom has moved to Assisted Living (despite the cost, which is almost criminal!). She will have a much better quality of life, and you will have peace of mind. Both which are priceless.

Lilac, how is DH? and I imagine DS is all grown up by now!! What is he up to? My son got married last fall & they are coming up on their 1st Anniversary already!

TT - so nice to see you posting. You've been missed. You have a lot on you plate. I hope you mother does well in AL. My mother was in IL but we had help for her.

Ruth - you are so good about doing a variety of exercise. Hard to believe your so is married almost 1 year.

Wonder, how is everything by you.?

    Lilac - welcome back!

I've been walking around the block 2 -3 times/day. It takes me about twice as long as normal but I cherish these walks. My husband doesn't go with me as he can't walk that slow. Well neither can I in normal circumstances.
My foot appears to be healing nicely but if I’m on it too long it swells. So I’m still spending a lot of time with it up. It’s almost looking pretty and normal

This weekend I had a rash over parts of my back and private parts. It was so very itch I was going crazy. Went to PCP and she told me to take Claritin, Pepcid AC and Rx a strong steroid cream. Slowly it is healing, especially the upper back. I need to use everything for 2 weeks.
I’m applying to participate in a clinical trial for stage 3 CKD. Going over my history with the NP she asked what the cause of my CKD and I said they never found out. She told me it’s all the treatment for BC. Now my MO and Nephrologist says no! Told my DH and he goes, I knew it!
Saw eye doctor this morning for annual exam and being referred to ophthalmologist due “narrow angles”. The ophthalmologist office called and we got disconnected and I keep getting voice mail. So frustrating. Some how I’m talking to her then all of a sudden someone is face timing me. Ugh! I keep trying to get through. Finally reached the ophthalmologist office to finish scheduling. I’m going at 7:30 am on Monday 09/23. At least I got an appointment before I go back to work on October 1st.
October 3 an4 is Rosh Hashannah. Yom Kippur is Saturday October 12. Two more holidays later in the month - October 17 and 18 and then October 24, 25. Busy month of holidays. I started baking today for RH as I can’t do the amount I normally would do, so I need to do a little everyday. Today I made a honey cake and my grandmother’s nut cake recipe. Tomorrow I’ll make potato kugel. I have a tentative menu with everything I need to cook this week and next.
DD#2 arrives on the 24th late and leaves early, early on October 28. DD#1 and granddaughter are here October 16 to October 28. DD#2 hasn’t seen her niece for a year other than pictures and face time. I finally made the Snapfish book of my granddaughter’s first year. I haven’t told her mom so it will be a surprise when she arrives.
I’ve gone on long enough. Thanks for listening.

Glad your foot is looking & feeling better, Karen. Boo on the rash! Few things are as irritating as a rash, so I hope yours clears up fast! Glad you got an ophthalmologist appointment before you have to go back to work. I'm glad your daughters visits will overlap. How fun to have them both home at the same time & for the auntie will be able to spend time with her niece, who is at a very fun age!

Was at PT yesterday for slowly healing sprained ankle and will be on my own for two weeks before returning for a "tune up"…I bit the purchase fee and bought my own BOSU half ball thing for my "home gym" — the other side of my home office which has yoga mats, yoga blocks, stretchy bands/yoga strap, cuff weights (those weights that wrap around your ankles or wrists with velcro - have multiple weights), actually I have quite a bit of stuff!

My hope is if I do that stuff at home vs going to the gym, then my going to place can be the yoga studio.

I get to go to a yoga class today for the first time since Sept 1, yeah!

Had the best/fastest jury duty ever this morning. Reported for duty, had a 30 minute training. we were told to take a bathroom break before going into the court…and when we reassembled, the court clerk came in to say the lawyers asked for a continuance so we were free to go…and this morning counted as my service for the year! Got to school in time to administer a test which made both my teaching assistant and my students very happy.

    Happy Thursday everyone, TT

    Enjoy your Yoga class, TT!

I went to HIT this morning & will go to Dance2fit tonight. Right now I am supposed to be looking things up on the computer for a trip we're taking later this fall. So…..I better hop to it!

    Just a quick check in:

TT: I hope your mother is adjusting well her new place. I imagine you are relieved that she is now settled there and in one location. Your "home gym" sounds well equipped. Enjoy your yoga class. You lucked out on your jury duty!

Karen: Your foot looks amazing and healing nicely. Sorry about your mysterious rash. Hope it's better. I know you're looking forward to your daughters and granddaughter visits!

M0mmy: You're right in the middle of the Packers and Viking and can decide which team you want to win on a weekly basis if you wanted to.

Ruth: What a fun trip! I love the picture of the Viking's stadium. Looks very clean.

Dh started pt this week. 2x/week for 4 weeks. Did fine after the 1st tx and lousy after the 2nd. He called the doctor today for more pain medicine. It's been 6 weeks and he's the same. He wants to wait until the next tx and see how he feels. If it's still bad he's going to make a doctor appointment. I feel so bad for him. He walks humped over and takes little steps. Looks like an old old man. 😞 But I have faith that he will get better. Luckily his mental health has not been affected.

Tomorrow I go on my adult Girl Scout retreat weekend. Ds is coming home to stay with dh bc I don't want him alone. Also dd will visit. Saturday I'm facilitating a Paper Quilling class. Saturday night I'm co-hosting Let's Make a Deal. I have worked on and off on developing the game since January and I'm thankful ds will be here so I can attend the weekend.

Wonder, unless they are playing each other I root for both on a weekly basis

    ruthbru Member Posts: 47,804

Wonderland, DH needs to DEMAND an MRI. The wait is just ridiculous. Enjoy your retreat. It sounds very fun. Especially the Lets Make a Deal game!

I went to Barre & for a dog walk today…..and actually got many things from my 'to do list' done!

  • ruthbru
    ruthbru Member Posts: 47,804

I went to Yoga & walked to & back home from a football game (a little over a 1/2 mile each way).

    wonderland Member Posts: 2,926

Had so much fun at my adult Girl Scout retreat! The ladies loved Let's Make a Deal and really got into it by wearing costumes, screaming loud. I had it set up that one person would get a Zonk (I made a stick person using a round camp patch as the head and that was the Zonk). I offered her the chance to try for the Big Deal of the Day which she won. I walked in the woods all weekend. Although it was hot and was also magical.

Dh called his doctor this afternoon. Waiting to hear from him…….

Sounds like a great weekend, Wonderland. Fingers crossed on the doctor!

Yesterday I went to the Legs class & walked a little. I went to Zumba & HIT today.

Saw the ophthamoloigst this morning. Scheduled cataract surgery for November 14 (right eye) and November 21 (left eye). Follow up with the optometrist the day after each surgery - seems weird that it is not with the ophthamologist who is doing the surgery.

I see the PT on Wednesday morning. She sent a form out regarding functionality of foot and ankle. Since I've been in the boot for 3 1/2 weeks, I really can't answer any of the questions. My foot is looking good - but it is still swollen so wonder how I'll do in regular shoes. I see the podiatrist on Monday the 30th, the day before I go back to work. When I saw him last, he made a point of saying pivot on my heal in the shower. Nothing about walking without the boot at all. So appointment with PT should be interesting.

Wonder, you GS retreat sounds like it was a lot of fun. Hope your DH hears back from the doctor sooner than later to schedule the MRI.

Loving the cooler nights - makes it easier to take the hot days, though our temps are pretty normal right now.

Karen, a good friend of mine just had the first eye of cataract surgery, and she is amazed how bright, sharp & colorful the world is in her 'good' eye (and is very much looking forward to surgery #2). I have another friend who painted her family room before having the surgery & had to repaint the whole room over afterwards because the color looked so different. So, it will be interesting to know how different things will look to you.

Happy, happy birthday to Wonderland! Hope you get spoiled today!

I am hanging around waiting to get a text from the guy who will replace our water meter. The window is from 8:00-12:00, so I'm trapped in the house until whenever he comes because someone has to be home. I will go to Barre & Zumba tonight.

Hubby and I took the dog for a walk yesterday at a local state park. He loves the place and is always good on his walkies. We go about a 1/4 mile out and then turn around to come back.

It's our high school's Homecoming this week (you can guess the school colors by our outfits). One of our members in on the Athletic Hall of Fame committee so we helped decorate for their banquet after we walked. The mothers of two of the inductees are in our group & both of the 'kids' were in DS's class, so I dragged out his old football sweatshirt of 9th grade to wear (that was the last time I could fit into his clothes because he kept growing & growing to an impressive 6'2" (impressive because both DH & I are short!).

I started PT today. The PT is part of my surgeon's practice so she checked with him before my appt to see if I can start going without the boot. My foot is still pretty swollen and last night I couldn't get my running shoes on. So for now I'm wearing one of those lovely post surgical shoes. I walked twice today, for 10 minutes each time in it and there is not enough support and my foot is sore. I'm going to try again tomorrow to see if I can get my running shoe on. The PT said for longer walks to wear the boot or if my foot hurts. She gave me lots of exercises to do. I have PT twice/week for 1 - 2 months. Scheduled through October. I'm sure the new school I'm covering will be thrilled with me leaving early so many days as well as all my holidays, but oh well, that's life.

Sorry that the photo is so big.

Ruth - when I told the ophthamologist that I had trouble driving at night, he said that is classic cataract. A couple years ago we were driving to the mountains after dinner and I was driving and I had to have my husband take over as I was having trouble seeing. I used to always drive, but I've learned to be a good passenger!

Hope everyone who is in FL and other places being impacted by the storm are safe.

  • ruthbru
    ruthbru Member Posts: 47,804

Glad you are starting PT, Karen. I don't like to drive at night either; but that's because I am an old lady school teacher! 😄

I went to HIT, went over to a friend's & helped her pack for a trip (for some reason, she thinks I am a good packer…..which I am not!), and then on a dog walk. We are good friends with the whole family of one of the guys getting inducted into the high school's Athletic Hall of Fame (he & DS met Daycare when they were 3), and he has invited us to the banquet tonight. Another inductee is a girl I've known since BEFORE she was born, her mom is a good friend of mine. So it should be a fun, sentimental night.

I went to a poolside yoga/sculpt class. Since I don't like being HOT, I didn't enjoy it! I imagine that we will walk to & home from a high school football game tonight. We are having beautiful weather!
