Due to epic hot flushes I did a slow 30 minutes - 8km on the exercise bike.

I was going to miss today's exercise but the voices made me do it.

    Thanks ladies.

Good luck with your computer Ruthbru.

I used to have a very old computer with an ancient screen that blinked off and stayed off.

My Mom saw it in action once and suggested hitting it!  To her surprise  I grabbed a book and slapped the screen upside its head, hard!

It didn't give me trouble again for a very long time.

It eventually fell back to its blinking ways and no amount of slapping it could bring it to its senses!

Cdelv - LOVE that cartoon - it's so true!  Like Dulci, I do love getting my race t-shirts!

Rest day yesterday, but will do a quick half hour run tonight.

Dulci - I also do the same calculations about age when some young slim runner with legs up to here glides past me. I always think to myself, let's see how fast you run when you're 58 years old!  That works for me most of the time but not when I ran my half last year - among the participants was Joan Benoit, and she's in my age group!  So much for that . . .   Winking

Claire - thank you for the tip on the Gu Gel! I am going to pick a few up for the 11mi hike I have planned in two weeks.  I am currently going thru Chemo and might need a pick me up to get through the long hike.  Do you have a favorite flavor?

    Hi ladies,

Back from my trip to London.  So great to see my son and appreciate the fact that he is growing up, he was always the difficult child.  He was an excellent tour guide and host, has a nice group of friends.  He's not crazy about his job, but as he said at least he knows now what he doesn't want to do for the rest of his life.

So I brought my fitbit with me to London - first day I forgot to wear it, second day I did, and when we got back to the room that night, I went to see how many steps I had done, and I had lost it!  I was heartbroken.  Of course, as we were leaving the hotel on our last day, hubby picks up suitcase and finds my fitbit under it!  So all of my walking went unrecorded, except by my aching legs and feet every night. But I'm sure we walked miles and miles every day, it felt wonderful.  We even recreated the abbey road photo (with 3 of us not 4), climbed St. Pauls dome, caught part of the changing of the guard, Easter service at St. Pauls, and saw the Book of Mormon.

Got home last night - worked from home today, into the office tomorrow.  Ugh!

Okay, I finally could get the picture up. At 8 am the temperature was 40 degrees, the wind was blowing at 34 mph, and it was raining....so needless to say WWW walked at the mall. Here we are in a store 'camping out'. I will do Zumba and probably stay for Yoga tonight.

Fun 'running' pictures. An update on our Boston Marathon girl; she actually picked up speed the last 13 miles! She said that she never 'hit the wall' but ran like the wind all the way through. So cool!

I want to see the Abbey Road picture!

Ruth, I love the photo and look forward to seeing them each week!

Question ladies:  What are you all using for sunscreen?  I applied the Cetaphil 50, but it is thick and hard to spread, small pump size bottle and pricey.  I went to CeraVe spray, pricier, easy and convenient but I have a hard time breathing for several hours, even after washing it off 2 hours later in the shower.

    Any recommendations?

Inspired.....I use Clarins which is pricey but worth it.  That is, except when the bottle explodes in your bicycle bag!  I also use moisturizer with sunscreen in it.  That way, I don't forget to apply on days where I leave at 6AM for the event.

I use Chocolate Outrage GU, and just noticed that Hammer makes a decent raspberry tasting potion.

I need to point out for anyone doing any real distance events....such as HOURS, that energy potions are essential.  I have seen STP cyclists need to be taken to hospital because they didn't eat and hydrate properly.  I got into trouble once on a 20 mile ski.  You don't realize that you are losing concentration.  I am not saying this about 20 minutes on the treadmill, but where you expend serious energy for hours at a time, you need to EAT.

I point this out because contrary to what is hammered into us on a daily basis.

As for recovery potions, I didn't do this during chemo, but BEER works better than anything else I've tried.  Plus, I do visualization..... the vision of a large cold one can inspire me to finish almost anything. - Claire

Did 20 min yoga and 45 min Triple Fat Burner today.  Almost didn't go cause my stomach acting up a bit.  Glad I did.  Tomorrow I am supervising a baseball game at my high school, so I will take advantage and walk the fields. I feel like I'm clock watching, with my second infusion coming up on Tuesday... and I want to get all the exercise in that I can before then because I will likely be down 4-5 days after infusion.

cdelv....yucko....really hope the anti-virals do the trick for you!

Sunscreen....my derm doc (I've had 2 different kinds of skin cancer removed on my face) recommended this: La Roche-Posay, Anthelios...for the face. It's pricey, but seems to work really well, soaks in without feeling greasy or filmy, and is one of the few sunscreens I can use on my face without skin irritation. Drugstores here sell it. I use a less pricey sunscreen for the rest of me, or sometimes splurge on their version for body parts too.

Dusted off the bike, pumped up the tires, and road just over 20km today....uphill against the wind all the way (or so it seemed). But, I can happily report, I don't think I've lost as much fitness as I assumed I would. WOOHOO Biking outdoors is THE BEST!!!! Makes me feel like I'm 12 again!

Those of you exercising your way through chemo, just have me in "awe"......incredible stuff you are made of!!!!

You ladies are killing me. Lol. At this point in my life I have exercised for 1 hour 3 times a week for precisely 3 weeks. You're taking about metric century bike rides, casually saying 4 mile jog thru the mountains, it was raining so we walked the mall and feeling low because your 32 year younger daughter isn't feeling it like you do. Wow. You ladies are definitely my heroes!!!!

OK so I stopped biking when I was about 25. Not cuz I didn't like it but because it hurt my bum and left bruises. I stopped running because (don't yell at me) I found it boring. The gym is working for me but I think it's only because I HAVE to go. I signed a contract for 12 weeks. Obviously, if I don't find my 'thing' I will get very fat. Hooping is out of the question at the moment - my back - so I'm left pondering what to do.

I like exercising, but half of it is the people I hang out there with. (gr)

Anyway, 1 hour of chiropractic torture followed by 15 mins tread, 45 mins resistance and weights then 15 mins stretching. Then one hot bath in Epsom salts. Lol

Cdev, ouch big time. I've had shingles, glad you got the prescriptions. Not the time for them at all.

    Ruth love the picture.

Red, I started with just 1 mile treadmill 2 years ago and first time on EFX could only do 5 minutes. Your 1 hour 3x week is far more than what I did.  You are remarkable! Oh .... mtn jog does have periods where I don't run part of it .... too slippery or rocks too big or too exhausted!  :)

Red, I don't run & never will, it isn't and doesn't have to be for everyone....it reminds me of when DS was in high school and quite a few of his friends were involved with the theater. I asked him why he didn't go sign up for the lights or sets or something & be a part of it himself and he replied, "Mom, somebody has to be in the audience." So we can be in the audience, cheering on the heavy duty runners/cyclers etc. But there are tons of different ways to work out & the trick is to find the things YOU will do. There are thousands of times (probably millions) when I whine, complain and do a half-ass workout (pardon my expression). But my body didn't know if I'm in the mood or not....only that I did it (and slomping through a workout does 100% more than doing nothing at all). I think once it becomes a commitment, and becomes something that 'I DO', then it starts to become kind of cool and eventually even fun (mostly Winking).

Sunscreen: I use Neutrogena Dry Touch. It's getting harder to find but it doesn't make a greasy sheen right away like others do.

Pretty sedentary day. Hooped about 30 minutes. I overdid it yesterday and my shoulder was not happy.

Red what Ruth said.  I discovered I love classes, I'm no spring chicken and sometimes I feel like what in the heck am I doing in here but then there are occasions like tonight when I was in my Body Combat class and between tracks the young girl next to me said 'you are terrific' and fist bumped me. Pat how lucky to find your Fitbit but how maddening it must have been to have thought you lost it, I hate when I forget to put it on, you know like today when I did two classes so it would have been a high number Bawling

This morning did Sh'bam and tonight Body Combat, feel like I'm fighting a bug, have had a slight earache for a couple of days and had sneezing fits today and now throat feels funny bleah!!!!!

I was looking for a quality sunscreen with the least chemical adds but didn't have much luck at the drugstore.  I ended up with Neutrogena Babies 60+.  I kinda figured if it's marketed for babies, then it should be mild.  So far so good, but my face looks white a long while after applying.

Red, an hour workout 3X a week is awesome!!! You have to remember to look at some of the dates on other people's profiles here.  Some of us are out a couple of years or more since surgery/treatment.  I am more in your boat, having had my surgery just two months ago and at the beginning of chemo.  Don't compare yourself to others, you are doing great!!! I like what you said about finding your niche for exercise.  For me it started with cardio kickboxing through our high school's continuing ed pgm.  I joined on a whim and have loved it ever since! I now belong to a women's gym and try to get to classes 3x a week.  Keep up the good work!

Red - as others have said, you're doing very well! Don't compare
yourself to anyone but yourself. I gained 22 chemo pounds and was one
of those people that chemo knocked flat. I tried to exercise, but the
effects of chemo were cumulative for me, and after a few treatments, it
was all I could do to drag myself to work and back. Exercise was out of
the question. But 2 weeks after chemo was done, I started a gentle
yoga class. I could only hold a few poses for a few seconds, but I hung
in there. I also got on an elliptical for the first time in months - I
lasted exactly 5 minutes and the machine kept blipping off because I
was going so slowly! I kept at it, slowly but surely, gradually
increasing the intensity and duration. My guess is that many of us here
have similar stories. My point is that it will happen if you keep at
it. Keep trying different things until you find your niche.
As you can see, each of us here has found our own exercise niche, be it
running, walking, hiking yoga, Pilates, fitness classes, DVD home
    workouts, gym memberships, hooping, etc.

Two mile run yesterday after work.  Nats Walk on tap for tonight - it's going to be in the 40's and windy at the ballpark, so we'll need to bundle up.  At least my beer will stay cold!  Happy

Inspired … As to your question, "Do you have that as an app on your phone?" - Yes and for my iPad, too.  I signed up based on the recommendations on this forum and I really like it.  It's nice to see how exercising can adjust your calorie intake!

RedReading … I'm beginning, too and have a ton of weight to lose.  These women inspire me immensely.  I like checking in each day, watching my weight every Wednesday and logging my food in loseit.com.  I was only doing 1 mile after surgery 3 weeks ago and now I'm up to 2 miles most days of the week.  After PT today, I plan on going out again.  I'm currently down 17 lbs since the beginning of the year, although 9 of it was from my boobs!  I keep telling myself to just keep going and do what I can do, plus try not to get discouraged because of how far along everyone else is.  I may start running when I get stronger and it's gonna be great not having to worry about black eyes anymore.  Winking

    Red,

Until about 4 years ago I didn't do much. Because of a medical problem AND seat issues I had not ridden a bike in 15 years or more. I researched and found a seat that worked for me. With your back issues you might even like to try a recumbent bike.

Baby steps add up!!! You're already past baby steps!!

Each and every one of us is AWESOME! SillyHeart

I went to my fun Core and Pilates classes this morning. The calories I burned won't be gone for long because I am signing off to make a Key Lime pie for my Book Club, which meets at my house tonight. (I have to make it right now just in case it doesn't work & I need to rush to Perkins to buy a substitute!)

Ruth…You make me chuckle.  Before PT I did 20 minutes of shoulder exercises and after PT I walked 2 miles outside.  It's a beautiful day.  I went over my calorie allotment yesterday, so hopefully I'll get back on track today.  Cheers.

66 you made me laugh... twice :) For that I thank you!

This has nothing to do with exercise, but I feel it's worth mentioning.  I downloaded Cancer Coach onto my iPhone today.  It has a neat journal feature that allows you to add dates, type or speak notes and even take a picture.  I recently learned that the calendar appointment feature on my iPhone deletes past appts. so I think this will be a good way for me to look back since I'm lucky I remember my own name nowadays ;)  Anyway, one hour til our Varsity boys' baseball game.  It's cool and very windy today but I am still looking forward to getting out on the fields!

Happy Thursday ladies!  Just reporting in:  5 miles EFX / 4 miles mtn - 110 minutes total.  I was really fast to start and going to try and do a personal best up the mountain, when 1/4 into the trail I picked up a retired guy (long blond hair, shirtless and he rides a motorcycle!)  I was going to pass him, but we started talking and he was so nice and interesting, so I adjusted my speed and continued through the entire trail with him.  It reminded me today that life is about the journey.  I'm glad I ran into him today, he had some wisdom that can translate into my personal life.  Cheers to the universe!

catching up a few days. I was sick Monday but walked 30 minutes the last two days. Today I had my first cancer exercise session so a half hour of strength and stretching and then I did the treadmill  for 30 minutes.

Red I'm working my way back too. Dont  be intimidated. I started with walking  but today I found our how little flexibility and upper body strength I have. So I have a long way to go too. I want to look or at least feel like that shadow in that picture.

Went to gym and worked out with weights and spent 30 min on the stationary bike while reading. Will walk the dogs when it cools down outside. It's 7 PM and 90 degrees right now. Scared
