hi all, reporting 5 miles walked since last post. Heard the Voices last night and went to the indoor track despite not wanting to go out into the cold, wind & rain. I'll do same tonight. Feeling funky, maybe some Rufus...
Red, TwoHobbies, anyone else just starting out - please don't be discouraged! I began with a short slow walk to the mailbox and back. Set a goal of 500 miles but to psych myself up, I counted down from 500 instead of up from zero. That way, I'd see 499.75 miles to go instead of .25 miles done. I've logged 4,361 miles since I started keeping track four years ago.
Gained 20 pounds from chemo and it took me a couple years but I lost it. Now working on the old stubborn fat LOL.
LB, thanks for the video about the floating bookstore, that would be so fun! ♥

Cheryl, I hope you feel better.
Completed 30 minutes on the Elliptical plus weights. Found out my boot camp class has added an earlier class 5 days per week starting the end of next week. Super excited to start going several times per week...

cdelv: Sorry about the shingles. Hope your meds are working.
Pat: Glad you had a nice trip to London and were able to visit your son. Also glad you found your fitbit.
Dh, dd, and I took a mini vacation this week. We went to Asheville, NC to visit the Biltmore Estate built by George Vanderbilt. It's America's largest home with 250 rooms including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces. What a life! We did lots and lots of walking on the paths of the 8000 acres estate. Originally it was 125,000 acres but Mrs. Vanderbilt sold much of the land which is now part of the Pisgah National Forest.

Tired feet tonight, that is for sure....17km of walking today. Must have done half the roads in town, but as I had some errands to do anyway, I put a snack in my backpack and headed out. Trying to get ready for hiking season, but the weather just doesn't seem to want to co-operate! But...first golf game of the season is booked for Wednesday...yippee!!!!!

Hi all---reading your activity is inspirational----I best relate to the cartoon about how long you can lay on the couch before it is a yoga position...... I am 1/3 of the way into my rads, and need to exercise. Haven't taken time for me for several years as a caregiver to my folks. Went to walk yesterday around the lake- its 1 1/4 miles, but my 86 year old dad on a walker wanted to go try., so we took a very leisurely stroll instead. Glad we went slow as today my knee is killing me. He on the other hand was feeling no ill effects. Go figure. Goal it to keep this up at least every other day until knee pain stops. I too have a lot to lose, and need to get more protein in my diet.

It is with reservation that I am visiting this thread and seeing if Icould ever fit in! I don't love exercise the way you all seem to but I have been doing an hour about 3 or 4 times a week - inspired by Ruth and the immediate benefits I get.
I am venturing in here with the hope to get further inspired. I don't need to lose weigtht but I need to keep active because Arimidex is giving me a hard time lately.
Also, today is my 1st cancerversary and I am joyfully sharing this with every person in my path. I even told the waiter at the restaurant where I celebrated tonight!
Hugs, Nisa

Welcome NisaVilla. I don't think of myself as an exercise person either. Thus the need for a bit of support! Congrats on your one year milestone.
Lots of hooping today. Due to the frozen shoulder I now have a chance to learn all those leg and foot hoop tricks I never quite mastered. Tried some weights as well.

Welcome Nisa and Red, there should be no apprehension about coming here, the more the merrier. Nisa congratulations on your cancerversary and yes exercise will definitely help with your side effects. LI that app sounds interesting. IBD how nice to have crossed paths with that man moreover how nice that you slowed and enjoyed his company.
Tonight did Body Jam class and there was lots of liquid awesome

NisaVilla Welcome and Congratulations
I don't like exercising that much - it just seems to be the best way of staying alive and healthy and combating side effects!
I do like logging my exercise once its done though.
Ruthbru - you have hooked another one.
I don't know how you do it but you take people who have never been friends with exercise and get us going - with all the other voices cheering us on.Thank you all.

Good morning everyone and welcome Redhead and Nisa! ♥

I ran 2.6 miles this morning before work. Working my way up to that 3.1 for my 5K.
I decided to try running because I'm hopelessly clumsy and have no rhythm, so I get completely lost and look like an idiot trying to do Zumba or any other form of aerobic exercise that remotely resembles dance.

WELCOME Redhead and Nisa! I think you will have lots of fun on this thread!!!! Congratulations on your anniversary, Nisa, coming over here is a great way to celebrate (along with the restaurant
).Wonderland, we toured the Biltmore one Christmas...fabulous!!
Ann, at least you will get some great, toned legs out of the frozen shoulder episode!
Well, my Key Lime pie was a great success! There was one piece left after the Book Club ladies left last night and I ate it right away "so that I could wash the pan".
My plan today is to do Insanity at 9:00, zoom home, shower & then zoom down to school to substitute in 6th grade science for a track coach. Insanity lasts half an hour and I need to be to school by 10:15.....we will see how close I cut it! I should get some 'points' for all that zooming, don't you think?

"hopelessly clumsy and have no rhythm" - you could have been writing about me! My Mom does Zumba for seniors and I am sure I could not keep up with her.

Happy to say I have stopped eating Matza and am starting to feel more energetic. White flour is just not good for me. Today's lunch was quinoa, black lentils, brussel sprouts and bulgarian cheese and now I've just done 45 minutes - 16km - exercise bike.
Also did a few minutes of theraband arm exercises - am starting very slowly this time - and hope to build up.

Nisa - I wouldn't say I love 'exercising', per se, but I do love a challenge, I love being physical, I enjoy meeting a physical challenge and I love the way exercising makes me feel (after it's done).
Annie - I continue to be so proud of your progress with running! I've always been very well coordinate and have great rhythm myself but am still hopeless with Zumba. I was soooo disappointed the few times I tried it. Maybe if I could do like a pre-beginner class I could work up to it.
I have a procedure (mud-flap removal) at 1:15 today so am currently fighting hunger pains. Have to be at the hospital at noon. I'll be on upper body restrictions for 6 weeks........again.

Redhead and Nisa, welcome. Ruth got me in here too. But it was only 3 weeks ago, so I'm a newbie too. I do not like exercise, in fact, in my household everyone called it the E word so that they weren't swearing in front of mom.
I do like how I feel when I walk out of the gym though. More spring in my step, even when exercising makes me tired. So I will keep going. Also the ladies here have made me feel welcome and have encouraged me to keep it up. As they will with you too, no doubt.
I think we're going to have a name problem though, so I am Deb and yes my moniker is also because of red hair (in my youth at least). Lol.

Good luck with the procedure today, sweet.....hope it goes easy and successfully for you.
Nisa...I don't like "exercising" either, hence why I don't enjoy classes, like many here do. BUT, I absolutely enjoy being active and "doing things". Maybe you could try re-labelling the physical things you do, and acknowledge that anytime you "move" you actually are exercising. Then it's really just a matter of doing "more" (longer, greater intensity, etc) of those things, which automatically leaves you with less time to do nothing....abracadabra.....you're exercising!!!!
Believe it or not, it's SNOWING here this morning. Looks like a good day to do yoga, and stretch out the muscles from yesterday's walk. Hope everyone has good days!!

S&S, wishing you a smooth easy recovery. Redhead & Nisa welcome and Nisa, happy 1 year out. Cheryl & Badger, taking a left turn from an intense media career and creating floating home/bookstore with a lovely rabbit is rather idyllic, if not amazing. Edited to add: Wonderland, terrific photo of you, DH & DD and liked the description of what you viewed and day out.
Freestyle (now termed) Power Step and body balance at the gym this morning.

sweetandspecial - sending best wishes for a speedy speedy recovery. Take it easy. (You ladies worry me.)

Hope your procedure and recovery go well.0 -
Reporting in: 10 miles - 70 minutes
Nisa, congrats on 1 year! Regarding exercise, I never use the word enjoy and exercise in the same sentence. lol I do it for recurrence prevention and to get a sticker in my calendar book at the end of the week!
) As Sweet and Special mentioned, I do like the benefits afterwards - the feeling of accomplishment and endorphins once completed.Thank you everyone for the sunscreen and lotion information! I am checking into all suggestions!
Sending the voices into the universe to help those of you who haven't logged in yet! Make it a great day!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I am an active member on the Stage 2 Sister Club thread, and there I re-named this thread as the "athletes' corner" ...so I may be feeling cozy here but am still intimidated, ha! Cant remember who did 17 km in one day but wow!
I agree that Ruth, like all great teachers and mentors, inspire people by just being there. However, happy to hear that some of you don't LOVE to exercise. When I asked both UCLA and UCSD what was the one factor most predictive of staying in remission, both places said "exercise." Strong data behind that statement. Too early in CA to report but will tonight or tomorrow.
Thanks and hugs, Nisa

Pat, I LOVE the Abbey Road photo!
Sweet, hope your procedure went OK.
I went to my class as planned and managed to get over to school with 3 minutes to spare. I spent the rest of the day drawing weather maps and watching a movie about all the horrible disasters caused by Mother Nature (which 6th graders thoroughly enjoy). I also ended up teaching PE for an hour
.....they were short of subs & the teacher I was teaching for volunteered me to take the class during his prep......I am happy to report that there were no broken bones, sprains, or strains during the hour I was in charge, but I was definitely nervous!Nisa, being a teacher, I enjoy telling people what to do; so saying 'Come, exercise!' is just an extension of that bossiness.

Procedure went well. Just got home.....later than expected because surgery started nearly 2 hours later than scheduled. Not a problem, I don't mind having a PS who is meticulous enough to run over a bit on the two surgeries prior to mine. I'll post a more complete update on the exchange city thread. Thanks for all the thoughts today girls!

Sweet, glad to hear it went well. Ruth you are right, there is a silver lining to having my dominant arm out of commission-- now I get a chance to build up everything else. I may be ambidextrous by the time this heals.
Hooping and weights again today. Trying not to lose all muscle tone in the bad arm despite absurdly limited range of motion.

Hi friends. Welcome newbies. I also don't particularly care for exercise, the lounge chair is sooooooooo comfortable but I do like the feeling afterwards. Exercise is a natural anti-depressant among other things.
Walked after work tonight - walking is my exercise preference. Logged over 10,000 steps. Finding I'm getting over or very near to that each time I walk. I also love logging it in loseit, which reminds me, I need to head over there to log the donuts I used to wipe out some of the benefits of those steps.
Night my sculpted friends.

8km walk today...then, some yoga. They are still predicting snow for tomorrow...really, really, really hoping they are wrong!
sweet....glad to hear from you. I'm sure your PS did a great job for you.
patoo....sounds like you're doing awesome....10,000 steps....woohoo girl!

Sweet, glad things went well today. Rest and be gentle to yourself.
Welcome Redhead and Nisa. I wouldn't say that I like exercise but I do like to eat. Ha ha!!!
Pat01 and Wonderland, love the photos. Thanks for sharing.
No exercise for me today, rest day. Happy Friday ladies.
