    Nihahi - no, I haven't tried ice - such a duh moment for me, I would certainly use it if my knees hurt, never even thought about it for my back.  Thanks for the suggestion!  Back is slowly getting better, which is my usual pattern.  Way under my 10k steps yesterday, and no chance of making steps up today, as Wednesday is "date night" and we are going to see Book of Mormon.  We saw it in London and loved it, and it was coming to Providence so we decided to see it again.

    Ran my 5K before work this morning. Now I've run the distance six times and plan to do it four more before the official 5K with DD. Still very slow, but I'm just fine with that. There are a lot of hills on the routes I run and the 5K event course is flat, so that might improve my time a little.

    Twohobbies, I'm with you and I too try to avoid grains (not this week.) and watch dairy intake as I can overdo cheese and in summer, ice cream.  I too have made changes in this house to our diets, although not too strict with our son.  Hope your back mends soon Pat.  Go for it Bluetail!  Good plan up to race time Annie.

    Power step and body balance this morning.  Decided not to take on body attack as well as I'm working on staying knee twinge/injury free this week and not get too run down.

    TwoHobbies - love the sign.  Don't mess with grizzlies!

    For the newbies, here's a picture of a bear I posted last fall - this was taken out of our cabin window.  DH was up early reading the paper and just happened to look up and see this big boy ready to help himself to the bird feeder.  After taking the pictures we banged our pots and pans and he took off.

    Yesterday was a sad day - went to the funeral of a dear friend's daughter.  The daughter was only 55 and died of IBC - she was dx only 2 years ago.  She leaves her husband, a high school age son and a college age son.  It was way down in southern Maryland so it was a long drive there, then a heartbreaking funeral, and a long drive back. As you can imagine, it was very draining.  My heart broke for the family.

    I did a quick half hour run early yesterday morning before the funeral.  Did a Pilates DVD this morning.

    Been playing tennis in the yard with my son while waiting for the bus in the morning just 20 to 30 minutes.  I was a bit afraid of overuse of the arm with tennis but it's just for fun and we go easy.   We used to throw the football and baseball before and I loved that.  I am shy about ball throwing as I'm protective of the arm still.  My PT urged me to do slow controlled moves with the upper body and ruled out kettle balls in favor or light weights instead.   I've revamped my weight lifting a lot. Lilac love the sound of your yoga, pilates and planks (I can't maintain plank for long -- good for you!)

    Got in a short walk this afternoon.  Nats, I love the bear tips.  Nihahi I think all bears have attitude being an apex predator.  They are hungry as Spring arrived late there isn't much food around yet.  They have been seen digging in my neighbor's compost.   The black bears are a newer arrival to our town in recent years so we aren't too experienced with it.

    hbcheryl sounds like cat olympics!  I can picture the pouncing.  Kitty may like new toys before bed. lol!  we have 5 cats and they are not allowed in the bedrooms -- tho the smart ones know how to jiggle the doorknobs and wake us up.

    I walked with the dog and son today for about 25 minutes.  Another taking it a little easy day.  I felt quite a bit better today than yesterday so by tomorrow maybe I'll be ready for a harder gym day.

    Mary, sorry for your friend on the loss of her daughter.  Since my diagnosis I have lost two friends to cancer, one to breast cancer and she was a similar age as me with similar age children.  It was just heart breaking to see her children so sad and of course now its a little personal too.

    Sitting down to some jerk chicken, plantains and broccoli and going to imagine I'm in the carribean!

    Mary, so sorry. What a terrible loss.

    I took a brisk 20 minute walk tonight after not feeling well all day. Hoping I can run tomorrow as we plan to take Friday off.

    black capri caesar salad  reporting in. Had a 2 hour golf lesson, then came home and ran/walked 5km. Going to do some yoga after supper digests a bit. The day started out so cold and breezy...just beautiful now.

    twohobbies...it's important to listen to your body sometimes. The tricky part is to figure out if it's a real need for rest, or our mind's way of taking the easy out. The important thing is you did something, and you did.

    Dulcigirl....feel better quickly...again...respect your body, hope the sickies leave you soon.

    What a shame about your friend Mary. ((Hugs))

    Cheryl, hope you get some rest and back to your sleep schedule. I totally understand as our Missy dog is terrified of thunderstorms so she often is our surrogate daughter crawling into bed with hubby and I.

    Took a 30 minute run after work today plus some toning exercises with weights.

    Here's the WWW, stopping at the baseball diamond....put us in coach! Went straight from walking to a sub assignment (stopping in the bathroom to change clothes) and did Zumba tonight.

    Mary, I am so sorry about your friend's daughter. I am pretty sad tonight too. One of my oldest friend's DH is in the hospital, where just today a big tumor was removed from his colon. Lab tests aren't back yet, but it doesn't look good. She is retiring in a week & they had booked a celebration Alaskan cruise for the end of the month. Crap!!!

    Wow, I am tired today! Walked almost two miles at lunch and stood at softball game for an hour and a half.  Came home and finally made our Cinco De Mayo Mexican dinner, lol.  Better late than never, right? ;) Tomorrow I'm venturing back to the Thur. afternoon gym class, Remix.  Haven't been to that one in a long while.  It's a mix of pilates and cardio.  Should be good.  What's nice about working in a school is the ability to go out the back door and walk the track on lunch.  So enjoyable on nice days.  Ooooh and today we had a fire alarm go off and got a nice 20 minute break outside in the fresh air.  What a treat! Heading up to bed early tonight - good night fellow crusaders!

    Band name today is the black and white striped pork chops.  Nats and Ruth - so sorry for the sadness and heartache in your lives right now.  It sucks.

    I saw my MO for a 6-month visit today (18 months since bmx/te placement already!).  All looks good and bone density has actually improved slightly in the spine Smile, hip reading is about the same.  So....still just slightly osteopenic, but I'm very excited to have good results on the dexa scan.  Bloodwork was also good.

    G'night all

    Glad your checkup went well, Sweet!

    Just came across this poem, hadn't read it in a long time.....

    All that is gold does not glitter;

    Not all those who wander are lost;

    The old that is strong does not wither;

    Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

    Mary, so sorry for your friend.

    I am cheering from the sidelines today. Started new meds for the reflux and for my shoulder pain and both meds seem to be winners. I didn't realize how many body parts hurt until they all stopped hurting at once (from the meds). Was a great six hours, most of which I spent dozing.

    Mary and Ruth, so sorry for the sadness you are going through.

    Back still being persnickety, and being busy the last two evenings I am not even meeting my step goal, 5900 Tuesday and 8800 yesterday.  So I have a lot of catching up to do the next couple of days! I do have my gym bag in the car, will go this afternoon no matter what, but if back isn't feeling it then I will just walk on treadmill instead of adding in weights.

    Saw Book of Mormon last night - had seen it in London, but we were so jet lagged that it was hard to stay focused, so we decided to see it again since it was in town.  What a funny funny show, so entertaining, and seeing it while fully awake was definitely better! Tomorrow night I'm off to a high school production of Godspell with some church friends.  It's definitely theater week for me!

    My band is Tan Oatmeal again.

    Ruth - I'm sorry about your friend.  I hope that they can somehow make that Alaskan cruise before he starts active treatment.  The woman whose funeral we went to always wanted to go to Paris, so she and her husband went last year.  She had to use a wheelchair because she was too weak to get around, but she was determined to do it while she could.  Pat - we saw Book of Mormon when it hit the Kennedy Center last year and loved it.  As we were leaving the theatre I realize that my face actually hurt from laughing so much.  HappyAnn - so great you're getting some relief.  Pain is such an awful thing, and it really drains you.  I hope that you continue to get relief and can start to heal.

    Quick half hour run this morning in the mist - saw two bunnies.

    The Alaskan trip is off no matter, what........ he didn't let anybody know how rotten he was feeling (probably for a long time), so by the time he went to the doctor, he was really sick. His hemoglobin and iron are so messed up that they've already given him several blood transfusions....and along with finding a tumor, they found numerous polyps, so it is even badder than bad.

    Off to Core, Pilates, and then a MUCH NEEDED haircut and color.

    Feeling frustrated. I felt SO GREAT on my bike ride Sunday. Sunday night I started taking Prednisone and a diuretic prescribed by my ENT. Took Monday off, was gone all day Tuesday as usual. Yesterday I felt weak and dizzy but did a short walk after dinner. I felt better this morning so DD and I decided to go run on the trail today. I was hoping to prove to myself that I could run 30 minutes straight to boost my confidence for Saturday's 5k. Instead I almost passed out at 1 mile in. We walked a bit, tried running again and I got dizzy again. DevilSadThumbsDown

    I googled the diuretic when I got home and discovered that it can lower blood pressure. Hello!!! Mine is NORMALLY low!! I'm sure hoping that is the issue. I'm thinking about stopping it at least til Saturday night.

    No biggie in the overall scheme of things, but I sure was enjoying feeling strong and seeing progress.

    Sorry for whining. But I know you all understand.

    It was a lovely day for a walk/run. We passed several turtles on logs, horses, and had a staring contest with a deer.

    Ruth - I'm sorry that your friends have had to cancel the Alaska trip for now.  Hopefully he'll get to the point where he's stable enough where they can reschedule.

    Dulci - how frustrating on your run!!  At least you found out NOW about the drug s/e instead of at Mile 1 of your 5K race.  I would definitely call your doctor and tell him/her what happened, and find out if there'd be any danger in stopping the drug till after the race.  I did that with my antibiotics I was supposed to start for my H. Pylori - because the drug combo has a lot of s/e, I didn't start them till after my 10K.  I was really glad I waited as I've had some s/e and would not have had as good a run if I'd started them right away.  (Apparently I'd had the H. Pylori for months, so waiting a few days before starting the drugs wasn't going to do any permanent damage.)

    S&S, pleased you had a clear with your results.  Ruth, I too am sorry to read about your friend and hope they can take that trip.  Ann, good news from you and long may you continue to feel better. ms_mez, you do quite a bit yourself and tennis before school - a fun mom! Dulci, I do understand.  I agree with Mary, this is not something you can run on and better to know it now.  The weather was against me today, whippy wind, raining and I was going to run one last 5k before the 10, but no. Could have run on the treadmill at the gym and took a pass. I've gone as far as I can in training and hope it's good enough.

    Today, body balance, pink pilates and yoga in late afternoon.

    Rainy day in NY today.  No walking at lunch.  Was exhausted by the end of the work day but dragged myself to the gym, following the good advice, "Just Show Up." Walked a half mile before a 45 min Remix class.  Did pretty well the first half hour but was a hot stumbling mess by the last 15 min.  But hey, I got it done.  Rest day tomorrow, then the big 11 mi Hike for Life on Saturday!

    I went back & did Zumba tonight, as I will have zero time to exercise tomorrow: sub all day, rush over to my church for a funeral (of an elderly gentleman whom we became friends with), then off for an overnight visit with some good friends. We should be back home later in the day on Saturday. Update on my friend's DH; tests do show cancer, but it seems to be contained to the one tumor; they are sending home for a week to clear his system of blood thinners before they do surgery. It seemed to be a little more encouraging.

    Cold and rainy here AGAIN!

    Ruth..that sounds like more promising news for sure. Hope it continues to turn out better than anticipated. My lord.....you have one busy schedule planned for tomorrow....have a great "sleepover" visit with your friends.

    Pretty nice day here today, got in a game of golf...no one landed in any leftover snowbanks! Later,  I walked down into town to pick up my bike which had been in the shop getting a spring clean and tuneup. Of course that meant I had to ride it home....uphill all the way! That's my exercise for the day, but I was outside and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

    Walked with the DH tonight.
