Hi my friends.  Been back from the cruise for 2 weeks but haven't checked in so haven't seen all your posts.  Had an absolutely wonderful time on the largest ship (now) in the world.  RCCL 'Allure of the Seas' has 17 decks!  End to end is just short of a 1/4-mile!  My cabin was on one end and needless to say I always managed to be on the other end so got in lots of walking.  Logged over 10,000 steps each of the 7 days!

ruthbru, I never got to bury the little guy but when I returned from the cruise had a contract on my house.  Now just trying to get through the inspection and appraisal without any hiccups.  What does that mean?  In a little over 5 weeks I will be homeless as closing is scheduled for mid-Sept but I'm not retiring until January.  Hope my friends really, really, really lilke me.

Exercise mostly has to do with housework, fixing, packing, etc.  Did go out for walk this afternoon and then came home and got on treadmill for 30 mins.  Trying to undo the excessive food damage of the last month.

Deb, looking forward to opening up of the June 2015 timeshare.

Welcome to newbies to this thread and hello to all.

Wow! Congratulations on your house, patoo! Maybe you should still bury him just to make sure all the details go smoothly!

Wow - miss a couple days worth of posts and pay the price trying to read and keep track of 'em!  Great job everyone!  Some yard work yesterday (Saturday) but no targeted workout.  Hit 10,000 steps around 4pm though so that's good.  Today was a 40 minute walkrun with one of my grand dogs (chihuahua rat terrier mix) with a 5 minute run in the middle plus a bunch of housework.  Saw a segment on ABC news a few days ago about how 5 minutes of running/jogging a day can reduce the risk of premature death by up to 3 years.   Don't know how to post a link but here's the URL for the segment (http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/national/running-5-minutes-a-day-might-add-years-to-your-life).

Today's exercise was walking all over the local IKEA store with DH. We had no idea how big the store was until we got there but certainly walked several miles. Back to work and regular gym workouts tomorrow

odie, IKEA is definitely a good place to get in steps.  It takes forever to find your way out.  Fun but dangerous place.  IMHO

Claire: Your ride sounds fantastic and intoxicating! I love lavender.

Patoo: So glad you had a great cruise and thankful you have a contract on your house!

Hello All! Hot and humid day here. The voices said to me "you're used to it so get out and exercise." So I did and I'm glad that I listened!

Patoo, congrats on the house and am glad to hear you really enjoyed the cruise. We have been on Carnival before but plan to try Royal Caribbean next time to compare. And boy, you ain't kidding about IKEA. Thought I needed a popcorn trail or to find the magic piece of cheese to get outta there!!

    Sweet dreams ladies.

Just downloaded the pictures. Here are a few highlights. First the winery, where I stopped in for a tasting, glass, and later on a concert.

    image

    On to the concert.

    image

    Including a fire pit.

    image

    First lavender farm.

    image

    Lavender and mountains.

    image

And then a view of the sea.

    image

I paid attention to this sign and WALKED the step descent, narrow bridge, and hairpins on the other side.

    image

Finally, a view from today's "cycle in" to see the Blue Angels. I left early and got to see them in formation about 200' above where I was standing with my bicycle. Floating I-90 bridge is in the background (not the dock, but the white, narrow floating structure). They close it for the air show.

LOL Red my old dog Goldie used to do the same thing to me if we didn't walk precisely at 6.30pm, it was like she had this inbuilt clock, and we had a cat that walked with us as well. Fingers crossed Patoo for all the i's to be dotted and the t's to be crossed so everything goes smoothly for the sale, glad you had a nice cruise with your family.  Claire your trip sounds wonderful.

Did Body Step this morning then spent the afternoon at a wedding invitation folding gathering, the bride to be is working and time is if the essence so a group of us got together to give her a helping hand.

Ruth and Lilac - I have that book Younger next year on my nightstand, but haven't read it yet, so Ruth I thank you for the synopsis!  I wonder sometimes about "senior" exercise - most days I am definitely not ready for that, but then there are times when my body complains terribly about what I am trying to put it through.  But the bottom line is to keep moving moving moving as long as possible.  Wish I had your resolve Ruth, so easy for me to fall off the wagon.

But lately I am back on the wagon, with a sore body to prove it.  My gym has reopened and I am getting there at least 3x a week.  Did legs Thursday, upper body Saturday, and then tried spinning again.  My gym does not offer group classes, so spinning is in the video room, spinning along with my virtual trainer.  I used to love spin class at my old gym, exhausted me in a good way, so I am happy to be trying this at the new gym.  Of course, no one to yell at you when you slack, but it felt great to do it again.

Beth, low back pain is the worst.  Lately I have been suffering with that too.  I was always told to work on my core and my back would feel better, but the catch 22 for me is that lots of core work hurts my back!

Might need to do errands at lunch instead of walk, but to the gym after work for sure!  Love all you ladies, it is such an encouraging group.

    Beautiful pix Claire!

Beth and Pat - I agree on the lower back thing.  It's really hard to strengthen your core when just about everything you do for core involves those painful lower back muscles!

Cheryl - what a great idea!  That time-consuming and tedious 'grunt' work of folding invitations was turned into a fun 'girl time' get-together!

15 minute brisk walk for me at break time this morning.  Will try to get in a walk/run tonight.  County fair is on this week just over a mile from my house.  When I do my 'cemetery' route I'm right next to the fairgrounds.  We (DH and I) don't typically spend much time there since the kids aren't in 4-H any longer (so not likely to eat much carnival food - whew!).

Yeah! Today I walked 6 miles then did cardio at the gym for 40 minutes. I hadn't planned on walking so far but my son, who is going far away tomorrow night, came to visit and we just kept walking and talking! Then a nice older man sat next to me on the bike and we talked forever too! Now I can eat a nice dinner!

Hi all.  Claire, beautiful pictures.  Odie, a Carnival cruise ship was next to us in Ft Lauderdale and it looked like a miniature toy!

Brisk walk on treadmill for 20 mins.  Found walk-to-run training in a Prevention magazine so trying to follow that for next 5 weeks. Similar to the C25K but it's not really to train for a 5k, just get you doing sprints between brisk walking.  Really using it just to keep me motivated to move aside from packing.

    Night my sculpted friends.

    Great job bethq!

50 minute brisk walk tonight including 5 minutes of running.  Add the 15 minute walk this morning and I've got 65 minutes.  Passed by the county fairgrounds during the cemetery part of the walk.  I don't know much about showing horses but they were doing some sort of youth horse or pony competition (little ones on horses in the show arena).

    Sleep well sculpted sisters!

Great photos Claire. And great work everyone. You each are inspiration to keep me moving.

Back to the gym today for a 30 minute run on the treadmill plus some weights.  Gymbag packed for bootcamp tomorrow.

Missed a few days - lots to catch up on!  Claire - beautiful pictures - I could almost smell the lavender from here!  Beth - about running bras - I reconstructed small, so any off the shelf running bra fits me now.  However, when I was larger, I used to get bras from Title 9 (http://www.titlenine.com/category/sports-bras-and-...) They rate their bras on how strong they are by a barbell scale - a 1 barbell bra is very light support, but the 6 barbell bras will stop any and all jiggle!  Also, running stores will frequently have bra fitters who will help you find exactly the right bra for you.  I did that right after my recon because I had absolutely no idea what size I needed, and they were very good.  Patoo - so glad you had a great cruise - sounds like a wonderful time.  Red - LOL on your dog channeling the Voices for us making you get up and out in the morning!  Ruth - always enjoy the WWW pix.

Mowed on Saturday, and continued cleaning out the storage room, so had fun taking yet another car load of junk to the transfer station.  Got up early and did an hour run on Sunday, then hit the pool for a bit, then went down to the Nats game.  Yoga DVD yesterday morning, then Metro/bike/walk down to another Nats game (rain make up).  And of course there are always a couple of Mikey walks every day, although those are really more strolls as he has to stop at every tree and bush to sniff out his "pee-mail" left by the other neighborhood dogs.

DH's hand therapist is also a running coach for the local running club, and somehow we got persuaded to sign up for their 10K training program. It's for novice runners who want to do their first 10K, but it's also is for people like us who have run 10Ks or
longer, but want to do better.  We had our orientation meeting Saturday, and we get started a few weeks from now. On Tuesday evenings we go to a local HS track to do
sprints, intervals, and other work. On Thursdays we're given a run to
do on our own, and Saturdays mornings (at 7am!?!) we get together with
our pace groups to do a long run. They give us a suggested
schedule for the non-running days like weights, cross training, and
flexibility. They also have speakers come in to discuss nutrition,
injury prevention, etc. We'll be assigned pace groups, and each pace group has two coaches who will
work with each of us and help us design an individual program to meet
    our personal goals

I'm already doing a pretty balanced workout program, but I have never been good about doing stuff
like interval work, and this will force me to do all that good stuff. I also know there are things I could learn about
pacing, cadence, taking proper strides, body posture while running, etc.  Not sure of what we've gotten ourselves into, but it should be interesting!  Loopy

Terrific training program Mary, great photos Claire and good for you S&S! Pat, check out the book and Odie, you are keeping at it.

We have been having a delightful time with my brother and his stepson who have been
staying with us. Put them on the Eurostar this morning to Paris and
return to us on Thursday. Brother dear and I have taken a 5k walks
down the country lanes before dinner and chat. He just can't
believe how beautiful and expansive this agricultural countryside is. He
has visited before yet it's always had been raining, so we never got a
chance to spend much time outdoors. My sister, brother and I seem to be
drawing closer as we grow older. I really like that. What a terrific
summer and don't want to be anywhere else..and what a difference a year
    makes.

Check in for yesterday is Sh'bam in the morning and Spin in the evening, then I was out till 1.30am helping my Sh'bam instructor assemble and tie her wedding invitations, they are going out as little parcels, we folded and got everything ready sunday then four of us went to her place last night and did Step 2.  Had a bone density scan this morning so woke up with a start very late but made it in time, wish I had known there was a lab right there as I need blood work but of course I made myself a cup of tea to drink while I was on the freeway, oh well....

Claire absolutely beautiful photos. Sweet I had a great time at the fair and yes I did eat but my friends and I share so we picked something then divided it in four so you get a taste of different things but don't feel bad about all the naughty things you are eating.  LB my friends in Yorkshire are posting lots of pic on FB as they are biking all over the place saying how beautiful their summer is, glad the weather stayed nice for your family visit.  Mary my Monday night Spin instructor is also a competitive body builder and she is training for a competition, these girls that do this have my utmost admiration as they are on a really really strict diet and she is down to 12% body fat, well she has been posting tips and here is a link to the one she posted today about interval training http://bit.ly/1ot6apd she is heavily into doing intervals and wanted us to understand why she teaches as she does.

49 minute walk including a 5 minute, a 3 minute and a 2 minute run (double my recent total running time).  Humidity is down and and I've been getting out pretty consistently for a couple weeks now so it's getting better.  I didn't plan on the 2 minute run but I ended up crossing paths with a couple of ladies running that looked kinda familiar so I asked if I could tag along for a few blocks.  They were actually just my speed Smile.  Would still rather get back in the habit of the 6am class MWF and walk/run T/TH/S mornings but am happy right now to be feeling good and getting out there, even if it does take an hour plus out of my short evenings......

Thanks for the 'voices' my sculpted friends - g'night!  Love y'all!
