Linda, what is it like to go for radiation? I have to heal first but then I will be going and I am trying not to be scared, but I am.

Radiation is a breeze, I suppose.  They will have you come in for tats.  Then when you go to your appointments, you arrive, get in a gown, go into an "x-ray room" lie down and expose your "site"  the tech will position the radiation machine then you lie still while they zap you.  I did the whole thing on my lunch hours.

Maybe I was/am naive, but I didn't feel scared.  The boosts are something to be prepared for because your skin takes a lot during that time.  Just make sure you take care of it throughout tx.

dlsrzbb - I was really emotional for rads.  I cried for almost the entire process of the setting up/ x-rays of the treatments.  I couldn't stop.  But once it started, it went fast, as long as I didn't count the days.  I stopped counting and it went faster.

my rads was a drag.  I had an hour drive to and from and started having skin problems 2 weeks in to it.  Tried really hard to take care of my skin but my body just did not like rads.

I didn't do rads because I couldn't get the type I was looking for here in Florida.  It's a slight risk, but I'm staying on top of things with frequent testing.  Just had my first thermography and waiting for results.

A funny story about my tats from rads... they put a dot on shoulder and I forgot about it, well about a week ago I see it and I think oh my there's some dirty spot I missed when I showered so I try to wash it off.  LOL then I remember what it was!!! LMAO!!! can't even blame mine on chemo my husban would just say I'm blonde!!!

Sheila I want you to know sister I am with you today in your purse or your pocket to hold your hand during this difficult time.  Love you so much.  Prayers and Hugs for you and your family today.

    Sheila,
I am so sorry about your dear sister in law Ann.  I just don't know what to say except that she was too young.
I hope and pray that her memorial went well and that she will be remembered with love forever.
Hugs and prayers for you and the family.

munny:  That's one of the rads that I would have considered, but my BS didn't like it and talked me out of it.  I'm sorry now that I didn't just insist on it.  It was early in the dx and I hadn't yet finished all my research, so I was vulnerable to outside influence.

my understanding was that you have to be a candidate for it ...i think they said you cant have it done on the left breast...i may be wrong...mine was right breast and it has to be a certain level under the skin....

munny:  That may be true...I didn't even get that far...BS just said no he didn't believe in it because of seromas and infection and we went on to the next subject.  Later I realized that I could have pushed a little harder to have what I wanted, and ended up having no rads at all when the doctors would not compromise on the external partial breast rads and wanted to give me WBR.  The left breast is always an issue because of the heart, and I didn't want to chance any damage.  I weighed my options and realized that worst case, the bc could recurr in the same breast, and then I would have a better understanding of what I needed to do, be it mx or something else.  I felt I could handle the risk, so I opted out.  I am doing a special anti cancer diet with no sugars or starches, only veggies, fruits and lean protein, supplements, exercise, and thermographys alternating with mammograms every three months.  In addition, as a conventional compromise, I am taking tamoxifen.  We all have to do what we feel is right for our bodies.
