careyomomof2 - The "salt dots" you mentioned are likely microcalcifications.  As far as being confused about all the terminology - it's like learning a foreign language!  On the home page of BCO (outside of the discussion boards) there are links to lots of basic information.  Here is a page that helps explain grade, stage, etc.  Basically, how to interpret many of the pathology terms:

    http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis/

Please don't beat yourself up for being worried for yourself and your daughter as you help your mom go through this.  Breast cancer seems to trigger an awful "out of control" feeling in most of us, especially at the beginning, but it seems to get a little better once a surgery and treatment plan is underway and we have a little more understanding about it all.  Hang in there!!!

My daughter swears i got the beast from being right near the World Trade center when it went down.

Will we ever know the real reason?

    Just find a damn cure....

Sheila,  I'm with you - haven't felt like doing anything but I have 6 more days of work to get through  ... actually I have 3 vacation days so maybe only 3 days.
I am not sure if I am depressed becaue I'm so tired, or tired because I'm depressed.  Speaking of who gets BC and who doesn't....I nursed 5 of 6 babies...I was pregnant for 4.5 years of my life and I breastfed for about 8 years.  That's like 12 years of Femara.  And i got BC.
I remember whenI was diagnosed, i was anxious but not horrified....I just knew I had to research and be educated.  I got half my vacation in before surgery; my kids were tripping over me; and my worst day/night was the night before surgery.  I felt as if life as I knew it would be over.  In many ways it is true.  I know I am not the same person....I had an easy time but the drugs take a physical and emotional toll.  I can't wait until next week when I can sleep freely and reconnect with the things I love.
Since I am now a single-tasker type person, I must simplify things.
    Have a good night, all!
    Joan
hey I'm going to NJ tomorrow....taking 6 grandkids (and their moms) to the Dinosaur Field Station in Secaucus on Sat.  Life size animated creatures....

Since we are talking about being cranky...I am...an whiny too.  I am TRULY thankful my situation isn't worse.  Just frustrated because of my body.  Cancer then a not so bad surgical procedure resulted in my body producing a very large hematoma making me uncomfortable.  They tried to drain it but it didn't work.  This resulted in my incision opening 2.5 weeks post surgery.  UGH.  Radiation/treatment will be delayed until it heals.  Praying for no infection to develop.  Plus, they are concerned I may have a bleeding disorder that caused the large hematoma to begin will.  Thanks for letting me vent.  I am truly grateful but sometimes I just need to whine.

OK, I have gotten my whiny post out of the way.  LOL.  Now to be positive and supportive!

    Bellinda,

I also developed a huge hematoma a few days after surgery, and it was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE and HUGE! My BS and his office gal told my husband they had never seen one so large.  Any way he performed surgery right away to excise the hematoma and removed 1000cc of fluids.  It took a long time for the breast to start looking somewhat normal.  I am sure that surgery 10 days later to insert the Contura Balloon for the Brachytherapy rad.treatments also added some of the color. Also, a few days after the rads. they had to put in a drain for about a week.  This was all last Oct/Nov.  The underside of the breast still looks a bit tanned, but everything is doing well....

I jokingly said to my surgeon, that I was as perky as an 18 year old.  He chuckled and told me "no, just half an 18".

    It will get easier....

With 4 kids and 9 grandkids, I can, at any given time, have enough family drama to send me to an insane asylum!  You would think that they would try and spare me since I had bc and need to avoid stress....no....apparently not!  This is why I run off to NC every summer.  When I'm up here it's kind of "out of sight, out of mind"!

Hang in there granny...it will get better!

Hey Kaara..........hate to be the bearer of bad news.............but I'm 77 oldest child is 54, youngest 43...........oldest grandaughters 30, youngest 11..............................24, that belong to me...............in-laws that I inherited ads another 6 to the mix.......................guess what.........it doesn't get better............sorry Granny......but they do bring as much joy to your life, especially when you become a great-grandmother of twin girls................

Its just all "bullshit", and you think you have the most dysfunctional family that God ever put on the face of the earth...........then you actually find out "every" family has their share of dysfunction going on..................and remember.............the more you have, the more opportunity to have a few "nuts" in the house...................hahahaha, but wouldn't give any of them away...........they are mine to keep............when it gets bad.........I turn to "you gals", and you make it "all better"...........love ya,

ducky:  Yes!  They do bring joy!  It wouldn't be so bad, if when they bend my ear for hours on end, and I offer them the best advice that I can give, that the would only listen to me and follow it, but no...they go right out and do the opposite, and then wonder why nothing changes!  Drives me crazy.  Oh well....that's life I guess.  When I'm in NC and they stress me out, I just get a glass of wine and go sit on my deck and look at the mountains...it calms me down.

Sometimes they listen sometimes they don't. I just keep telling him that I'm always right (LOL) and he should know by now. And sometimes he agrees! But not too often. That might lead to peace and my three sons want none of that!!!

You'll all love this one...my DD just called from Fl with her latest tale of woe.  It seems that honey bees have taken up residence inside the wall of her bedroom and have built a huge nest.  She can hear them buzzing all all night long.  I said "call the exterminator" to which she exclaimed that she was going to call a service that "relocates the bees along with their honey" to a new habitat.  I can only imagine what that will cost and hint...hint...who is going to pay for it...NOT ME!  When the phone rings and she asks "are you busy?"...I know trouble is coming!

Kaara, There have been so many problems with honey bees that there's quite a shortage. She may be able to get them removed for nothing. Lots of bee keepers would love to have them.

Wren44:   Now that's a thought!  I will pass that on to her...she needs to do a little more research on this.  Thanks for the tip!  We have no shortage in NC...they are all over my flowers every day!  I have to suit up like a beekeeper to work in the yard!
