I have a question and i cannot seem to figure out how to start a new thread.Perhaps someone here can either answer my question or help me figure the new thread out.

    here goes.

I had S/Node removed along with 6 other nodes removed.SN positive the others were not.I also had breast edema.I cover up like a crazy person cause im scared to death of a insect bite that could cause LE.I went out for 5 min.monday all covered up along with a bounce in my pocket and vanella which is supposed to chase them away.in the 5 min i got bit by a tiny bug.I cleaned it and im watchin it but im scared shitless.its still itchy which i cleaned 100 times.its on the padded part of the inside thumb.the vein is stickin out and a little swollen.i measured my arms and there is no swelling.Im goin crazy.anyone know anything??????

Granny - I looked on the lympheda website and it says don't itch!  But here is most of what it says:

An insect repellent is a good idea but some of the more effective ones contain DEET, which you may not want to have on your skin. Health food stores will have natural repellents, usually with citronella as the active ingredient, and these can be less detrimental to your skin. However, you should avoid putting insect repellent on your skin and then wearing a compression garment over it. That may cause skin reactions and can also damage the fabric of your garment.

No matter which repellent you use, some insect bites probably are inevitable. Be prepared to treat them immediately to lessen the histamine effect, which can cause increased swelling in that area. Benadryl or hydrocortisone creams are two treatment options for insect bites. An ointment with aluminum sulfate as the active ingredient can also help decrease the effects of bites and stings. And a tip from my friend Connie: treat bee stings by applying a paste of meat tenderizer and water to the site of the sting. Treat an insect bite like any break in the skin on your limb at risk. Wash and dry the area completely and apply antibiotic cream to the area.

    Granny,

Perhaps a Benadryl capsul will relieve the reaction...

You can now buy the shirts and pants that have the insect repellent built right into them.  I purchased one last year because the year before I was stung by several bees in my garden.  When I wear these garments the bees don't come near me.  I spray my hat with repellent too, but you can also buy the hats that are pre treated.  It definitely works.

Morning everyone!  It's early here and I'm getting ready for our big road trip up to NC.  It will be a 12 hour drive and we try to do it all in one day...as long as daylight holds as we are driving through the mountains.

I ran around like a crazy person yesterday getting all my last minute appt's and errands done, so today I will relax and listen to books on tape as we drive.  This keeps my BF calm and he doesn't get angry at the other drivers, and the time passes quickly.  Tomorrow I will wake up to sunrise over the mountains...a beautiful and peaceful sight.  Probably a lot of yard work...the weeds have had a field day I'm sure since we are so late in arriving!

Talk to everyone in a couple of days!

Hey Ladies...........here's the scoop of my visit to the Onc yesterday.........First, let's get something straight right out of the gate..........I could not have had a better day to have an appt................after being down the shore all weekend with my daughters, trying to keep up when we went out, and not being able to with my gigantic feet and legs had me as "low" as a human being could get......................

Went to the Onc, and the nurse took all the info, you know, all the bullshit they ask you everytime you go in.......you put little check marks next to everything that has changed, or let them know how you feel...........BAD, BAD, IDEA...........I was not in the mood for any "lets put a check in the right box", yesterday...............after the nurse blaming all my ailments on everything but Femara, I was ready to kick her sorry ass out the door of the exam room..............

Now, in comes (i do love her).......my Onc, all smiling, and asking, "well how are you today"................I said......obviously you didn't play the little "put the check in the right box game".................she looked at me like I was nuts.............(ok, so I am, but I digress)..........................after ranting about my swollen "Miss Piggy" feet and legs, and the pain which on the scale of 1-10, was a 20........................she gave me every "other" reason why my legs could be swollen....................weather, other meds, salt, etc...........so I finally said to her.......................IT'S THE FRIGGIN FEMARA.........................she said "I never knew Femara to cause swelling"........................well of course you know who went ballastic...........I said ................."have you ever read the insert in the package of Femara, or have you ever gone "online" and read the SE's...............or possibly listened to the Rep., that came to see you with the "free lunch" for the office staff", or did you all just enjoy the lunch, and tossed the Femara information in the trash.......................she stepped back and said ..........."I see we are very upset today"...........................

Then I told her about all the aches, and pains................and the fact that I took ibuprofen for it, but was concerned because I also have to take a 325mg aspirin every night, and was concerned about stomach problems.............ok, well what the hell do you think she suggested...................Oxycodone................I said "are you nuts".....I would not take that "shit" if you paid me too.....................I'm not looking to get "high", I'm looking to get relief...........................she proceed to write the script, while I told her she was wasting the "ink" in her pen, cause I was not getting it filled...........

Then I suggested she go on breast cancer.org. and see what the "real pro's" have to say about the SE's of the AI's, and then try to tell me 12,000 women with BC are "wrong"..........she shut up.

The best thing that came out of the visit, was she put my name in for a clinical study being done at the University of Pa................It is for "Pain relief from AI's by using acupuncture"....................I said "great, I want to do it, because I have had acupuncture for my back, and it works..........they are going to call me when it time for the study......................

She also found a small lump in the right breast (same side as the cancer), and now I have to go for an ultrasound next Tuesday..................sure its nothing, and I'm sure she knows that too..................I call it "her protecting her ass"...............but hey who knows...........it happened before...........

So my visit to my Onc. was to say the least interesting.............I'm sure I ruined her day, but I was on a "roll", and she got the brunt of it............................just fed up with all the bullshit............big feet, big legs, achy joints, LE, and BC in general................then I meet some "asshole" yesterday who says...............OMG, you look fantastic, so glad you through with all that cancer stuff".........................

Out of my "big mouth" comes........................really, would you  like to "take over" where I left off................guess she won't tell me how good I look the next time she sees me........................actually she just might "cross the street" to avoid me...................I hate well meaning "idiots"............

The you look fantastic was enough.............telling me "gald your through with all the cancer stuff".........BIG MISTAKE.......BIG, BIG, MISTAKE..........................hugs ladies.

Ducky - Well meaning or not I wish people who say things like that would stop to think how much that hurts. Just because you are doing the hormone treatment, are done with chemo or rads does not mean the treatment is done. This is like a never ending nightmare. I know I shouldnt get upset with folks for being kind but with all the things a bc patient goes through things are never the same.

Anyway it is all what you make of it and I think some of the wanting to rant is an SE cuz I have not felt the same since starting A1 three weeks ago. My MO said that most SE's dont show up till you have been on it for a month or so. I am still not convinced that I should be taking it and I dont feel well, achy all over, horrible pain in my hips, hot flashes, trouble sleeping, and nausea that she tells me is not a SE from the meds.

    Sorry for the rant......

ducky - regarding acupuncture - I am a huge fan.  BUT, I wouldn't do it through a study because there is of course the 50% chance of receiving placebo needle placements.  I know this because I participated in a similar study.  What a frigging waste of my time when I wasn't actually receiving acupuncture and was in real pain.  Having had it before, I figured out in about two visits that I was a non-receiver.  It can also help with swelling, a lot.

Hi ladies, just checkin' in :)  I have my 1.5 year follow-up in two weeks, bilateral breast MRI.  I am getting nervous but know all will be ok.   I had a PET scan three weeks ago due to some all over body pain I was experiencing and that was good, but it showed uptake in my left breast (the cancer one) and said it should be followed-up with a breast MRI so that's what we're doing.  That makes me a bit nervous...  Anyhoo, hope you all have a wonderful summer, June is going to be crazy, crazy for us. I'll post back with my follow-up on my MRI though.  Hugs to all!  Sandra

Raincity..............I will ask when they call me if this is the type of a study that involves getting either the actual study product, or the placebo............I know how well acupuncture works, so they will not fool me for 1 second.................if that is the case they can "keep" their study ................I am not driving to center city Phila., with the price of gas, and my 8 cylinder gas guzzeling, SUV.......to take a friggin placebo............I will absolutely get that question answered "pronto".....................not sure when they are going to call.....

However I did look up the UofP. study online, and it does not say you will get a placebo........it actually says they did acupuncture on all the participants....................but I'm asking anyway.......................hugs.

Hey Granny...............I was probably having a miserable day, and was sick of all the bullshit, and the "oh that is not one of the SE's".............so I let her have it....................however she is very sweet, and I was told she is so intelligent that all the Dr.'s in the hospital say "we should insure her brain"..............so she must be pretty good....................she just needs to read the inserts, go online and read what "we the experts say", or talk to the Rep while she is enjoying her "hoagie".......................haahahhahahahha.......love ya girlfriend.

Morning ladies:  Well, blink twice, and here we are in NC for the summer!  Arrived to rain and cooler temps which is a good thing.  I got out in the yard today while it was still in the 50's and pulled weeds and trimmed bushes for about three hours.  Finally quit because I want to be able to get out of bed tomorrow...lol!  Now have to tackle the unpacking..ugh!

Ducky: I'm so sorry about your onc app't...it just sucks when you get no sympathy from them and no honest answers about the drugs...just a script for more drugs..that stinks and I think I would have behaved the same way...they need to hear this once in a while for a reality check! Honestly, I don't even tell them what I'm doing any more because I don't want to hear their BS!  I just go so they can check my boobs and take my blood.  I just do my research and do what I feel is right for my body.  I hope that the accupuncture works for you...what a relief that would be.

Granny...glad you enjoyed your DGD's play.  I am going to miss mine so much I think I will go back to Fl a couple of times to see them.

Good luck on the test Sandra!

Yard is clean and unpacking is done...have a load of things for Goodwill too!  The weather is still cool here...in the 60's with sunshine and not a cloud in the sky!  Tomorrow I go looking for flowers and herbs, and maybe a couple of tomato plants to set in the ground.  I tried doing herbs in pots last year but they require so much watering.  If we go away for more than a week I have to hire someone to water them:(

madpeacock, I think you can choose. In same boat, diagnosis in August and surgery in September. I think I will go with surgery date. First mammo in July.
