NM hey girl-------glad you fielded that because I could not have given the good info you have, What i can add is that the expected areas for mets from breast are colon. bone, brain, liver, lung. What Nm said about colon then breastI don't have a clue. Have learned they have a oncotype dx score for colon ca. Waiting for CEA test to be back on Mon-tues. off to church down to last minute---sas

Wonder if there is a connection between breast cancer and colon cancer gene mutations? My BRCA 1 and 2 are negative for mutation. I am on Xeloda and it is used to treat colon cancer and metastatic breast cancer.

it is all insane i think or at least it makes me insane...it would seem that so much is supposition- i knew that but after getting bc and talking with you all it really hits home...the only good news is that there are so many researchers working on personalized medicine based on OUR genetic makeup...in the meantime, i guess we have to stick with our gut instincts and follow them...

Well that I was thinking about in church tonight-------why can we do all the things in the world that have been done, and we can't fix cancer. So, I suppose if we get started on that-cluck'em. What we need is a Danny Thomas that started St jude's hospital for children. For the youngers that don't know that story. Danny Thomas as he told the story was down and out practically penniless. He prayed to St Jude Patron Saint of Hopeless cases. He promised to start a hospital for children in return for a change in his life. His life turned around and when able started the hospital. That hospital is responsible for many of the changes in care for kids with terminal illness----and it's free to them. One man made a change through his beliefs.
The problem with genetics--the genome has been mapped ----what our illustrious government allowed to happen is to allow patenting of genes. That's why the cost of being tested is so high. Cluck'em. The mapping was paid for with taxpayer money. Fatcats are getting rich beyond our dreams on research we payed for. It's sick and sordid . And much of the research is being done at our universities. --well going to find something to laugh at.

I went to my cousin's baby shower tonight. I am so upset that I am ready to spit bullets. This woman comes up to me who knew I went through chemo asks me why I am not wearing my hoop earrings and my bright red lipstick and my scarves. She said I looked really good. I just looked at her. She barely knows me and sees me twice a year. I said... sorry to disappoint you but my hair grew back. She didn't know what to say and walked away. Didn't speak to me again. What an idiot!

Veggy---maybe she didn't know. In the late 50'smore ponytail and single wrap , like in Grease--- to the late 70's peasant look, scarves were a real fashion statement, with earrings appropriate to head wrap. When I got BC and bald, I had all my old scarves. Thank god because they don't make them big enough now to do the wraps we did then. If she didn't know maybe she truly was offering you a compliment. I still love that look--particularly the peasant look with the head wrap , Loop earrings, bloosey shirt held in and slightly pulled over a contrasting belt , with the mid calf flaired skirt, with boots. When I got my free scarves from the local chapter-one person brought in the other three office gals----they asked where I had learned how to do all the wraps I was doing----"the sixties" flower child-----I even did it into the eighties---didn't care if it was out of style. Now I'm doing it as the mood strikes me because I just like the look. ----------------WEll I did miss the line that says she knew. But somethings amiss you must have looked great in your wraps-----what can I say-----sorry---or hey not everyone can carry the look as good as you did. --------don't know-------duh
The typical head wrap that volunteers make -turbins-turned off center with another scarf pulled through the center part and tucked----goes right back to the thirties and forties. I saw too many people with them straight on their heads--------no creativity. I'll probably get lamblasted for that, but that also can be done really creatively.
Yeah the reason for being bald ----sucks big time. The apparatus has been around for several thousand years in many ways. Well go to the bonfire and through in your anger about it and through me in too if you feel so inclined.

My hair came back but I hate it. It was very curly before. Now it's kinda, sorta wavy sometimes. It has no personality. I wish I knew how to wear the scarves besides just tying them behind the head.Sas I wish you could have taught me how to tie them.
I don't mind and even laugh when my close friends mention my baldness and that look. Its when people i barely know try to joke about it that hurts. Plus a lot at the shower had that condescending tone in their voice when they asked, "How are you?" Lately I have gotten to the point that I just want to forget the whole thing.

I have often asked myself if I would have bmx if I had BRCA genes. i was dx at 35. at the time my insurance would not pay for the BRCA test. My paternal gma has bilateral bc in her 70's. My dad's first cousin had bc at 47, her daughter at 50. My dad's great aunt died of BC in the 1950's or 60's. another of his cousins died of cancer, tho I am not sure if it was bc or something else. Something's going on here!
My insurance changed and I had the BRCA test, I would have had an ooph if I had it. But mine was normal- not even an unknown variant- so whatever is going on genetically on my dad's side of the family is something else. I participated in a study that is trying to find other causes of genetic bc- women who are dx under 40 (even if you are older now) - check out link below. I gave a blood sample and so did both my parents.They send you postage paid kits to send back.

Alyad.. almost every woman in my maternal side has had bc... my nephew had testicular ( which IS related to bc in men) and my brca; and my siters showed...NADA wierd, hu? one dr. had an opinion of enviromental.. all of us grew up on the shores of lake Cachiauate.. (ya had to be there) it had a brewery that dumped all their waste into the lake we swam in, all of us... who knows??? all i know, is, my body let the little buggers in!!! 3jays

recently, .... a woman told me Cancer does not hurt. Oh REALLY!!! Okay honey let me transfer my pain and feeling to your titty. LOL AND, just today someone told me oh I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses my mother died of cancer 7 years ago. WHAT! LOL Can you imagine if I was a blithering crybaby what that last statement would have done to me.

Hi everyone...I have a new one. I'm at the health club and even though I'm overweight this REALLY overweight woman is sitting down to blow dry her hair. I am standing next to her and lift my arm (that is paining and sore and I guess I moaned a little... so she says "Oh, are you O.K. and I said "Yea, I'm just sore from swimming... I had a lymph node removed and my arm is sore." she immediately says "oh, cancer?" So stupid me admits that I have it. SO THEN she starts telling me about everyone she knows who died that had it and how young they were !
Good thing its been a while since surgery or I would have been crying ...instead I said "Well you know obesity has been noted as a major risk for contracting it. HeHEHE that shut her up fast ! LOL UNDER THE BUS WITH YOU LADY! What is wrong with these people!

I received a letter from the hospital radiology department telling me that my mammogram was normal and come back in a year...two weeks after my bilateral mastectomy. Wonder which patient that letter was meant for, because it sure as hell wasn't meant for me!!

Personally, valgal, I think your response to the young woman in the gym was rude. Yes, her comment about the people she knew who died from cancer was dumb and unhelpful, but I also think you didn't have to call attention to the fact she was obese. I am sure she is aware of the fact, but I do think she should be able to go to the gym without hearing about it.

I was at my neighbor's house and her great granddaugter-in-law was there. She told me about her aunt who had stomach cancer and died. All I could think of was ... where is that stupid bus?!! This is the same person who told me the reason that my son had asperger's syndrome. IDIOT!!!
