I don't usually post photos of myself because I just don't like them. Here's one I don't hate. LOL This is a sculpture DH designed and had built. The panels are solid steel and he had to hire a crane to lift it into place. It's in the courtyard of our place in the desert.

I think I forgot to post here that my radiation was approved. Finally! Will call tomorrow to get on the schedule. Still feeling a bit off, but I think I'm getting better.

Carol, your husband is very talented! The sculpture is beautifully displayed. It's a grand piece of artwork, for sure. And a big "Yay!" on insurance approving the radiation!!

Thanks to the moderators for good wishes for this year. Thank you for all that you do on the forums.

Teka, I loved your cat banner. That is one fat cat!!

I have been sick for the last few days. My niece was sick on Christmas Day and I spent a long time talking to her that day before we both realized she was sick. Today I got dressed for the first time in a few days so that is progress.

Carol, you two look cute together. Your DH is mighty talented. That must have been something having a crane lift it into place. I bet your knitted hats were a success for your family. I am glad you are feeling better too. Maybe we caught the same bug. So glad you can finally start radiation.

Hershey, my car light situtaion was quickly resolved when I took my car to the dealer first thing after getting home the night before. My tires are supposed to be 33 psi. The front tires were 34 psi and the back tires were 33 psi. No wonder I was getting such good mileage! After going down the line dealing with a couple of guys in the service dept the guy that told me somone put too much air in the tires I said well it was someone here that did that a few days prior. He showed me where the button was to turn off that explanation sign that caused me so much stress. I have had my "new car" now since 2015 and I am still finding out things about how it works. Sorry you had so many fireworks going on last night and into the morning. We had some but I slept through it if they were still going in the early morning.

Wheatfields, when do you get to visit your sister? I know you must be anxious to see her. How is your nurse friend doing?

    Chris, how are you doing?

GB, I hope your new shoes help. Keep massaging your calves. For many years I had treatments from a myotherapist. Her philosophy was all based on trigger points. I have learned that you can have trigger points that affect areas quite a bit away from the pain trigger point. If you Google trigger point charts that may help you.

Teka, I hope your 2024 is a good year for you and for all of us.

    Love,

    Nancy

GB, I found something for you that might be helpful. It is not written by Travell, which is the charts my myotherpist used but it is free to look at and even gives exercises to help stretch the muscles out. I use a thing called a back knobber and that is how I put pressure on painful spots. I also use tennis balls as well. I do streching all the time or I would not be able to function. I hope this helps. You have to scroll way down to get to the calves and feet.

This might be useful to all of us.

Thanks Nancy! I gave it a good massage and found some trigger points. Grateful I had the week off of work to rest. I haven't put a regular shoe on since last week, so we'll see what happens here in a couple of hours when I leave for work!

Hershey - I leave for AZ January 16 through the 24. I am anxious to see my sister although we visited most nights by phone, either my BIL is there and face times on his phone or I call the number at memory care and they are most polite and caring about taking the phone to her. We don't talk "in depth" but just sharing lightly about small things is special. My nurse friend is still struggling for a good nights rest mostly interrupted by having to get up to go to the bathroom. She has been trying Gemtesa but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Urologists are hard to get into and she has another appointment the end of January. She also is troubled a lot by hot flashes and what she calls cold sweats. A little side note, the bone density test I had mid December wasn't good, it had decreased some again. But I haven't heard from the MO so he must not have been too alarmed.

Carol - that is a cute picture of you and your DH, and the sculpture in awesome! Praise the Lord for the insurance approval of radiation. Continuing to pray all goes well and you are feeling better!

Nancy - I am so sorry you caught a bug over Christmas and pray that you are feeling much better.

Chris - Praying for you that you are enjoying the a cozy place looking out at the snow.

GB - Praying that your foot doesn't give you problems at work.

Teka - thank you for the banner and praying for you all a Happy New Year!

Thank you everyone for your prayers. I am struggling a bit today with a headache, nausea, dizziness, and extra fatigue, but I will push through. I was still able to fix a simple dinner tonight. If I am still dizzy tomorrow I will call my MO.

GB, I am praying for your foot. I always feel so bad that you have to still work through all of this.

Nancy, thankful the indicator light was tire pressure. I actually thought that when I first read it and should have chimed in. These vehicles get more complicated all the time.

Carol, thank the Lord you finally got your insurance approval. The sculpture is amazing. The stucco work and flooring looks just like what we had in San Diego. I guess a lot of those condos are similar. At least they were in Pacific Beach.

I hope my quiet day tomorrow provides me improvement as I have PT on Thursday and it is supposed to snow again, then Faslodex shots on Friday. The shots are always rough on me for a few days.

Good morning, lovelies (even though it's already 11:01 AM here) and happy Wednesday.

Good news is that I DON'T have COVID or pneumonia. I do, apparently, have a nasty ear infection. I started antibiotics yesterday. Prescribing PA gave me a liquid form when I asked about the pill size. I've been playing phone tag with the radiation scheduler so hopefully that can begin next week.

I'm not doing much today. Slept about 11-12 hours last night. That's twice in the past week I've done that. Usually 5-6 is more my normal routine. Sleep is delightful, even with strange dreams.

Here's a funny I saw on Facebook. My goal for today:

"Finally, my bills are washed, laundry is paid, clothes are baking and dinner is in the dryer. I've got this!"

Carol, small blessings in knowing we have "something that is going around." I am thinking that is my issue too so I am hunkering down today. And yes, sleep is good!

Radiation starts tomorrow. That was fast. I thought it would have to be M-F. Hey, I'll take it. Let's get this thing going. Since my RSV test is still pending, they want me to wear a mask. That made me chuckle, because OF COURSE I'm wearing a mask. Nice woman who called to schedule.

Chris, I'm sorry you've been feeling under the weather. Nausea and dizziness can be debilitating. I hope you feel better for your PT and doctor appointments.

Wheatfields, I'm so sorry your nurse friend must wait until the end of the month to been seen for a follow-up visit. Specialist appointments are scheduling so far out, even for established patients. It's wonderful that you two are such good support and encouragement for one another. True friendship is a blessing.

Carol, what fantastic news! Wishing you smooth sailing and most excellent results!

    Hi all,

I am still sick. This afternoon I was nauseated. I just don't feel like doing anything. I did order groceries online to pick up and that was a big event for me.

Many of the newscasters are saying everyone is getting sick so I think we have a lot of company with whatever this is. Some clinics are requiring masks again.

Chris, you sound like you have the symptoms my niece had over Christmas. She tested negative for Covid. I never took a test. Actually I gave my niece two of my tests but I really don't think it is Covid. I really don't know what to call it but it has lingered for days. I do hope you feel much better soon.

GB, I hope that these trigger points are helping you. I have found it extremely helpful over many years.

Wheatfields, I know you will be so anxious to see your sister. Your good friend is dealing with a couple of things I deal with as well. Since my hysterectomy I have bladder issues. What helped me so much was pelvic floor therapy. I was doing really well with that and then when I had my hemmorhoidectomy it was like starting all over as I could not feel those muscles at all. I am inching my way back but it is hard to get back to where I was. I know there are procedures to tighten the bladder. I just wish my surgeons would have done that during the hysterectomy.

Carol, I do hope your ear infection goes away very soon. I am so glad you are going to start radiation tomorrow. Hallelujah. Praying your treatments will go smoothly.

Hershey, I hope your New Year has started off well.

Teka, I hope your family celebration will be a great way to start 2024.

    Take care dear sisters.

    Love,

    Nancy

Nancy, I’m so sorry you’re still sick! I hope you can just rest and sleep this one off. These bugs seem never-ending. My RSV test came back negative, so I guess this is just a bad cold. I think I’m going back to masking when I’m out.

I hope everyone is doing OK. It’s colder than normal here in San Diego. Our piers are getting pounded. It’s sad to see them being destroyed. I don’t get why people think it’s a good idea to go stand on the sea wall and watch the waves. It’s crazy, dangerous!

    Love to all,

    Carol

Nancy, so sorry to read you are still sick. Get some rest and get well my friend.

Carol, I will be praying throughout the day today that your radiation procedure goes smoothly and that it will totally work!

I got through my PT and labs today okay with Faslodex shots tomorrow. sigh… It is starting to snow so I put tortilla soup in the crockpot. Resting the rest of the day to try to get over this virus.

Nancy, I'm so very sorry to read that you're still unwell. These viruses can be relentless. So many areas are experiencing high levels of flu and COVID. Is that the case in Illinois?

Lately I've been seeing more people wearing masks. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon and will mask up as a precaution. There's no place like a family practice clinic to encounter a virus!

Chris, I hope you are staying warm and cozy. Your tortilla soup sounds yummy, especially on a snowy day. I'm always on the lookout for crockpot soup recipes. A couple of weeks ago we tried a cabbage vegetable soup recipe. It was surprisingly good, and I'm not a big fan of cabbage.

Carol, praying your first radiation session was quick, easy, and very effective.

Chris, I love chicken tortilla soup. I have some in my freezer that I made in my slow cooker. It's comfort food for me, but lately have had trouble swallowing it.

Carol, standing on the sea wall watching waves sounds exciting but yes, it would be as dangerous as wanting to get out of your car and pet the buffalo here! Praying for your treatments that they are effective and gentle on you.

Nancy, praying that you soon are feeling much better.

Chris, praying for you too and your tortilla soup sounds yummy.

My nurse friend has a C scan of the abdomen tomorrow with contrast.

We've been in the deep freeze and have all our snow with us yet.

Nancy @bandwoman1234 how are you doing? This thread has been quiet for a few days. I thought I'd tag you with your forum name so that hopefully you'll see this. Are you feeling any better?

We had a good visit with our son this weekend. I'm sleeping a lot. Radiation 3/10 is today. Ear is still feels plugged and am still on antibiotics.

    How is everyone else doing?

    Love to all,

@bandwoman1234 I have been thinking of you too hoping you are feeling better. @sunshine99 how are feeling? You have been going through so much lately I have been sending up extra prayers.

We are in the midst of a blizzard so we are hunkering down and cooking bacon. It's a rare treat here.

    Hi friends,

I am better. I just spent a long time ordering groceries only to find out I was too late to pick up for today. UGH

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping because my routine has been interupted so that makes me feel awful normally. I am not 100%. I am lightheaded and not sure if that is because I am weak or what. It has been discouraging. Thank you for your prayers. I know most of you are going through a lot more than me and I have been praying for you.

Carol, how are you doing so far with your radiation? To have an ear infection and rads is just a lot! I'm glad you got to visit with your son.

Chris, are you feeling better now?

GB, I would continue to massage that leg if it helped. I know…………one more thing to do right?

Wheatfields, I hope your friend's scan came back with no issues. I bet you are excited to see your sister next week.

Hershey, yes Illinois is experiening high volumes of Covid and flu. I have had shots for both. I hope you are staying well. Our Bible study that was supposed to resume tomorrow night had to be postponed because our leader has Covid. I was relieved that it was postponed because I knew I was still not up to it.

Teka, I hope your dinner went well with your family.

I would appreciate your prayers for wisdom for a couple of health issues. I resumed my last refill of suppositories a few days ago. My pain is off the charts in that area again and I just don't know what I am going to do next. I took a reduced dose of Mirilax last night as I remember that was my first line of treatment with my surgeon. Can't tell yet on that one yet. My second thing is I had planned on having knee surgery in the winter and this long and extended sickness has really goofed up my plans. I want to get an office visit with that surgeon and see how we will proceed. I have had complications with almost evey surgery I have had so I am hesitant but I don't want to have to keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and end up in a crisis with the knee like a few months ago.

    Take care dear sisters.

    Love,

    Nancy

Nancy, praying that you are feeling much better soon and will be praying for those other health issues as well!

Carol, glad to hear the radiation is going well and praying that you will soon feel better too with the ear infection.

Chris, I think that blizzard is showing up here now too - we are getting another 10 inches and have 8 so far and then the wind tonight. We just never get warm enough for the last 10 inches to go away.

My friend had her scan last Friday but the doctor won't be in until tomorrow so had said she wouldn't hear anything until then. I am trying to pack light for next week, I keep thinking snow instead of sunshine.

Praying for all of you, Hershey, Teka and GB too!

    Love, Wheatfields

Nancy, I'm so sorry that you're still experiencing complications from your most recent surgery. I will pray for wisdom and guidance to resolve the pain issues.

Wheatfields, it looks like the upper midwest will see blizzard conditions tonight and tomorrow. I will be praying for you and your nurse friend. Ten inches of snow on top of eight inches is a lot! I hope you and your nurse friend have no travel plans the next couple of days and will stay warm and toasty at home.

Chris, I hope you and your family are all safe at home. Bacon for lunch sounds scrumptious!

Carol, you're nearly halfway through radiation! I hope treatment continues to go well for you and the antibiotics take care of your ear infection.

I saw my doctor on Thursday afternoon for elbow pain. Turns out I have tendonitis and need to wear a brace for two weeks. Sleeping with the brace has been a challenge, but if it calms the tendon and relieves my pain it will be worth the discomfort. Oh, and no yardwork. That part is a-okay by me! ;-)

Nancy, this may sound weird, but I think of you often with your "bathroom" issues. I have days where I just can't poop. I know I'm not eating a lot, but still… I've tried Miralax, Phillip's MOM and Benefiber. I usually take the MOM in the evening, but three days ago, I thought I'd try it in the morning before I ate anything. It seemed to help. although things were a bit loose for a couple of days. I haven't taken any since then, but at least it didn't hurt when I went.

Sorry if this is TMI. If anyone would understand, it would be you! I'm so sorry you're so uncomfortable.

Stay safe, everyone. The weather outside is frightful…

    Love to all,

    Carol

    Hi everyone.

It is so late and I am not even in bed yet. I am doing much better but I tire very easily. We had 4 1/2 inches of snow today. That is the most snow we have gotten since the end of 2022. I think this year we are going to be making up for last winter of almost nothing. We are getting another big snow on the weekend just in time for the temps to be frigid. They are talking -20 on one day. I think they said the high would be either 0 or 1 degree.

Wheatfields, how is your OT going? You might be finished now possibly. Is it helping?

Hershey, thanks for your prayers regarding the past surgery. I feel like I need a miracle because it feels like taking a couple of steps foward and then I will have a really bad episode with bleeding and then back to square one trying to get this thing to heal. It is so frustrating and painful.

Carol, if I am counting right tomorrow evening you will be half way through your radiation. Am I counting right? Yes, I definitely understand your bathroom issues. I eat a lot of fiber but that doesn't always translate into a good outcome. I very, very rarely skip a day unless I have just had surgery and today was one of those days. It was all because I ran out of apples and I thought I was getting my online grocery order yesterday and I apparently missed their cut off time so no apple last night. I skipped Mirilax too. I have enough apples today for a week so I am good there now. So that apple every day for me really makes a difference. I am consuming a lot of fruits and veggies but that apple really has some good benefits. I have never heard of Mom before. Is that like Milk of Magnesia. I am not even sure they make that anymore. Speaking of that I need to drink some Mirilax and get to bed. It is so late. I am praying for you everyday. Take care dear sis.

I am praying for ALL of you.

    Love,

    Nancy

  • sunshine99
    sunshine99 Member Posts: 2,723

Nancy, yes, MOM is Milk of Magnesia. It's just shorter to type - haha. The taste is disgusting to me, but I find the cherry flavor is less disgusting that the plain. It's very chalky. The generic brands don't seem to work as well. Today will be radiation session 5 of 10. It's a super quick process and they've been calling me back as soon as I check in. Today I was supposed to go in at 1:45, but I have my Faslodex injection at 1:40 at a different location. The tech told me I could just come to radiation earlier and they'd get me in. I think I'll do that. Three appointments today. At least they're all close to each other.

I'll have to try the apple. DH usually has apples and I do have applesauce that might be easier to ear.

    Love to all,

    Carol

Carol, I guess I am a litle slow on the uptake. DUH MOM =Milk of Magnesia. I took that years ago and you're right. It is disgusting but the cherry flavor sounds much better than the original. I haven't tried that. My problem most of my life has been the opposite of constipation so treadly lightly with the Mirilax. I am not taking the whole dose. I ate my apple last night and I have to say that today things were painful but improved. I realize that apples might be a challenge for you. My routine for breakfast is a smoothie with my diet detox protein powder and mixed berries, spinach and almond milk. That usually activates bowel movements. Maybe you could try something like that. I think I remember you mentioning a protein powder in the past. Of course I am trying to lose and you are trying to gain so my detox powder I would not suggest.

Congrats on being half way through radiation!!! Thats awesome. I hope all of your apts line up easily for tomorrow. Sleep tight.

    Love,

    Nancy

Nancy, I have been praying for your miracle for a long time, but won't give up. It must be draining for you.

My problems are daily and from my meds so I just deal with them. I actually have a scan on the 16th to see if they the current meds are still working. I am a little nervous as I have had extra pain lately. I would appreciate your prayers. I have also missed a few doses lately since I was sick, my normal response when I am sick so I recover more quickly.

Praying for all of you…Hershey, GB, Teka, Wheatfields, and more. You are all a blessing!
