Karen, That is really funny - glad you were able to break the eye doc down after all those years. My opthamologist is the same, very formal and stuffy. I'm too afraid to challenge it, so I just go with the flow, but he has a way of making benign things sound ominous. I don't know if I am up for that right now so I am putting off seeing him for awhile. I'm rattled enough as it is...

Working a little today but hoping to get some things done at home this weekend, too. It is going to be stormy so hiking plans may have to be put off.

I will be making a facebook page for MacFry in the next day or so. He has many admirers. I should say that for this trip he took Johnny Reb along with him, a friend he picked up in the Gettysburg Gift Shop a few years ago. They spent the time peering out the back window of the RV, safely away from those back & white "devils." Last time Mac met them he required plastic surgery and a nose job. Oh the horror....

PS- MF has an extensive wardrobe and taylors his outfits to his surroundings.

Hair tip - if you have chemo curls, making you look like your mom gave you a bad pre-Easter Lilt home perm, try the circle comb by Goody. It is a flexible, adjustable circle, that you can cinch your hair up in, resulting in look that while not beautiful, it does say - hey I'm doing the best, with what I have.

Haven't been on in a while.  Took me awhile to read through all the posts.  Thanks for the laughs!

Got my results back from my US and mamo.  Top half fine.  Bottom half-2.7 cm cyst on my ovary.  Never had a cyst before so it makes me a little nervous.  Can't seem to get any progress with talking with anyone before my already scheduled appt on April 4th.  My onc ordered the US on my ovary, but told me to follow up with my gyn.  I am seeing my surgeon on Tuesday and my gyn on 4/4.  What kind of questions should I be asking.  I am wondering if I should have both my ovaries removed since I am already in chemo-pause!

I had both my ovaries out in 2005 (oopherectomy) due to questionable US and am none the worse for wear. In fact, I was relieved not having to worry about ovarian cancer after my TNBC diagnosis. I'm not BRCA+ that I know of and was 50 when I had them out.

OBXK - Thanks for the hair tip.  I actually had chemo curls before I ever had chemo...lol....always had thick, curly, frizzy, crazy hair....and now I have it again.  The difference was it was easier to manage when it was long and I could just grab it into a ponytail.  My hair has been growing in since Feb 2011, very very slowly....only have maybe 4 inches now....and I bear a striking resemblance to Bozo the Clown.  Oh well, it's only hair.... after all we've been through, it seems like a very minor problem...but I'll definitely try the comb you mentioned.

Hope - I have the same hair, gets very big, before it gets long. The comb is a comfortable growing out, taming device. It's a humid day here in NC - I hate big hair days!

Bernie, Those terriers are cute! But curls must be hard to get used to if you haven't had them. My hair is giving me fits, too, but it has always been curly. The dentist had a good time teasing me about it last week.  I've always been the casual type, so I'm breaking out the ball cap for the next three months.

The curls are killing me too!  I hate them!!!  I did finally go get a cut that helps alot with the look.  I also got a small flatiron to do the top.  The back is too wild to flatiron.  I will try to post a pic for you all.

KS - thanks for posting the pic.  I think your hair looks cute!  I bought 2 small flat irons...one to use, and the other in case the first one conks out....lol....not taking any chances!  Just noticed your diagnosis date....you have a lot more hair than I did at that stage.

    Bernie - love those terriers!

OBXK - oh those big hair days!  The summer humidity usually hits NY in May, and my hair expands to 3 times its size....and then stays that way until October.  No wonder I love winter (everyone else thinks I'm weird). I wish I'd heard about your comb a while back...around 2 weeks ago I couldn't take the growing in anymore and chopped it short again.  Mistake!  So  back to growing in again....

I wish you all a great evening!

I went back to the eye doctor this morning and he checked these new contacts and they are in fact fitting properly. Because up close is now blurry in the contacts, he said to use over OTC readers. So, I'm sitting her on my laptop with contacts in and sporting a "fashion" pair of readers +1 strength, which were cheap and cheerful. Acutally they were buy one/get one free...so even cheaper and equally as cheerful. I have only a few bucks invested! Now I just need a chain to hang them on and I'll be just like my grandmother :)

Iwear contacts - my distance vision has been terrible since I was about ten! Now I need reading classes and have many pairs - one in every room where I might read. Good job they are cheap!

Keep the chain Sugar..I have lost more reading glasses than I can count..honestly I think that reading glasses (and the chain)..make people think that you are smart (not that you aren't)...

    Karen..your hair looks awesome!

I had frizzy hair before...then when it started to grow back I had the tips (ok..all I had was tips)..colored...and put lots of gel...and wore it kinda spiked..I liked it that way...I never put heat on my hair anymore..just gel and a flat iron...my hair is actually longer than I want it to be..would like to cut it really short but I can't seem to get it through my hairdressers head to..CUT IT...

I wear my readers on a chain. It's the only way I can keep up with them. I buy different colored, beaded holders, at the Dollar Tree.

I've tried everything wrt to vision. Multi-focal lenses, regular lenses, extended wear lenses, tri-focals... you name it, I've tried it.

Now I read best without *anything* and have readers in every room when I'm wearing contacts. Heck, sometimes I slip them on over my regular glasses.

This whole merry-go-round of lenses/glasses drives me crazy but, since I do not have a problem with dry eyes and I still have excellent night & distance vision I have just resigned myself to the inconveniences of getting older.

But have you tried monovision?  You could wear a contact in one eye that corrects for reading, and wear nothing in the other eye, which will take care of your distance vision.  The brain adapts.  And then you don't have to be on the hunt for glasses.  I love my monovision contacts - my left eye is for reading and computer stuff, my right eye handles the distance.  It seems to be a perfect solution for me.  Plus these are day/night contacts so I wear them 24/7 and replace them each month.  It's almost like having  vision correction surgery but cheaper and a lot less risk of complications.

Yes, I usually wear monovision, but switch off from time to time to see if it lessens my headaches (a complaint some have with them).

Also, my opthmologist no longer prescribes extened wear (I loved them and did well with them) due to fears of corneal ulceration resulting in permanent eye damage.

I've only tried multifocal contacts, which worked pretty well for me until now.  My eye doc said monovision is  a more difficult adjustment  for many people.  Just wondering what everyone's experience has been?

My situation is like Heidi's.  Last night after I took out my contacts (..the one's I need to wear the readers with) I found I couldn't use the readers anymore with my "naked" eye...only when I have on the contacts. Have a great day ladies. I've got tons of errands to run today.

Gayle, Glad your "top half" checked out good - but I hate you have to deal with a cyst on top of all this.  I have never had one, but my niece has had several.  She still has her ovaries and is actually pregnant right now.  If they discuss removing your ovaries (don't know that they will at all, but just in case) - make sure you ask what the downside would be.  I have read that it can increase bone loss pretty quickly.  Keep us posted, and I hope all goes well.

KS, your hair looks cute- and it is nice and thick!  I still have a thin spot in the back but I think it was from the Halaven.

Back to work today. I have too much work due Monday so need to get a jump on it.  It rained here yesterday and we didn't get to hike, but today is supposed to be nice.  I walked on the treadmill yesterday but today I'm going to do something outside in between office time.

Sitting here at the computer rubbing my puffy, watery eyes knowing that this afternoon and this evening I will still have puffy feeling and watery eyes. They never feel "normal" anymore. Eye doctor says there is no problem, but I don't think they should feel heavy and puffy all day!!

It is beautiful here in Missouri- I plan to have a great day- hope all you wonderful ladies have one too!!

Hello ladies, Navymom and I met on the August 2009 chemo thread which was started by Jenn3, who is also TN and has sometimes posted on this thread. We have heard she is having a rough time with things recently. She has been stage IV for a while. I have her address if anyone would like to send a message of support. By PM of course.

    Good Evening Ladies,

I hope everyone had some sunshine today.

Here's my update on the most recent diagnosis.  Went for a PET scan a week ago and it came back with additional areas of concern.  I have an internal mammary node that "lit up" and a spot on my lung that looks like an infection, but could be the start of something ominous.  Still clean everywhere else, yeah!  I spoke with my RO and it looks like no radiation for me because the spot is in the same area that received the highest dose last time.  So it looks like it is another surgery and more chemo for me.  I see the BS and MO tomorrow to get everything started.  The BS said he can remove the skin mets and hopefully the lymph node and then pull my skin up to close.  I like to think I'm getting a tummy tuck for free.  Woopeee!

I'm not ready to admit that I'm stage 4, but it looks like that is the case.  Ugh, cancer sucks!  I'm not giving up but am just so over this.  Well, let the battle begin (or continue in this case).

The best thing that happened to me today:  I mowed my lawn for the first time this year.  I hope I don't regret starting that summer chore too soon.  I just love the smell of freshly mowed grass!

Have a wonderful week!  Love to you all.............
