    Good morning Sunshine's,

    Annie... hope the treatment continues to treat you OK.   Our winters get pretty chilly, average out to about -10 or -15 which compared to other Canadian cities working East is nothing - they laugh at us.  But the summers are wonderful...and I love the fact we get 4 seasons.

    And as for decaf coffee.... Bit like non-alcoholic beer ?!

    Kelly... great news on clear scans.  What a relief eh?

    Lisa.... Good luck today seeing your surgeon.

    Good luck at the genetics testing as well Annie... .and your daughter.

    Start taking my Dexa's tomorrow.... So for me yep...normally wide awake around 3am.

    I have pretty good veins...but on occasion where they do not want to show themselves, the lab actually has one of those wheat bags which they heat up and put on my arm.

    Well ladies I am off for my pre-treatment check in today with the trial drug nurse and my onc before treatment # 7 on Friday.

    I wish for you a wonderful and better ailment free day than yesterday.

    Oh! and although I didn't know the ladies you are talking about who succumbed to this bloody bc I am sorry for your loss - thoughts are with you.

    Kelly - Great news! Enjoy it.

    Lisa - I had rads after lumpectomy the first go round, I also had chemo. When you go for your setup, wear warm socks and pants. It's cold in the rad room. Don't allow them to put you in an uncomforable position, you will have to hold it for a long time. I didn't, and it tore a muscle in my neck. Make sure you keep well lubed - I used Aquapor.

    Monika - (((Hugs)))

    Annie - That cake sounds great! I don't know what a wheat bag is - but I'm all for plumping veins. The boy is still in love and had a grand time, on his trip to LA.

    ~~~
    Went to PCP - I'm just fat and gassy!
    OBXK- you're describing me. So no need to make a Dr. appt. LOL
    Heather-Congrats on your new job.
    LuvRving-I know you are enjoying Paris, but you forgot to ask me to sneak into your luggage.
    This thread is moving right along. Forgive me if I forgot to mention anyone.
    Hi Newbies it does get easier and more managable as time goes on.
    Welcome to the newbies, you'll find a great source of support here!
    Kathyrnn, I asked the rad onc's nurse about swimming during rads and she said it was OK! Hmm, going to have to ask the doctor himself now...
    Lisa - I had no rads with 1st tumor (long story) and now have a local recurrence. I wish I'd done the rads back then. Throw everything you've got at it NOW is my personal opinion.
    Breast surgeon called with path report yesterday -  1 cm, clean margins - and no positive nodes this time. All better than my last time. It's funny, though, I'm not happy or excited to hear this. I'm not anything. They could have told me I had 10 positive nodes and I'd be the same - just emotionless. Having godawful nightmares constantly though.  Time to call the therapist methinks...
    Dang this board moves fast!
    Mags- sorry about the cellulitis, but I'm glad you went so quickly for treatment.
    McCrimmon - congrats on the job. You and Painting must be VIP'S, you merited a note from the Moderators. Don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
    Thank you for the laugh Tazzy, you made me realize I'm turning into Maxine's evil twin. I wish you had a chance to meet the sisters we lost recently, they were such strong, joyful women.
    Guy girl - sing your little heart out in joy and celebration!
    Riley -OMG! Someone else who likes fruitcake! To h*ll with the orange juice though, we soak ours in rum. Loved that bugspray on the flagpole analogy.
    OBXK - don't be starting that drooling chocolate cake craving back on here!!! I just got over the last one, hehehe
    Titan, love your hubby's droll sense of humor.
    Kelly - congrats on the good test results.
    Lisa - I think rads after lumpectomy are the standard of care for treatment.
    Monika - I had been off the board a couple of months when our trio of sisters passed, and I remember how dismayed I was to see the news. Like a punch in the gut.
    Cocker - "Bless me Father for I have sinned". I knew about the second time reaction being worse, but I didn't want to add anymore to your anxiety about the treatment. Now you understand why I was being such a nudge about you needing to bring someone who could watch you closely, and wouldn't be afraid to drag a nurse in by whatever method needed!
    Still LMAO at your note to Titan, our resident Wonderwoman. I have a suggestion for you, stick the ice cream on your nether regions. It won't cure anything, but it will feel ohhhh so good!
    Minxie - they told me, no swimming, tub baths
    or hot tubs during rads. You've been through so much, I can understand that numb feeling, but a wee dose of the therapist may be a good idea.
    Well ladies, my roommate moved in last night, and got everything cleared to make space for him. (small house, WAY to much sh*t!). Am I awful for hoping he stays broken up with his girlfriend long enough that I can get full use
    of his man brawn, heheheheh. At least there is someone in the house now, so I can stop worrying about being a robbery magnet. Today I have to head over and try to repair the lawn tractor that I tried to kill apparently. Dam thing is a temperamental bast*ard, must be a male tractor.
    Anyone I forgot to mention, blame it on my chemo brain! Have a lovely day ladies!
    Painting - we'll be here when you need. Be well.
    Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for her sweetness and kindness to all.
    One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better him and He could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl.
    "Oh, yes," she replied, "Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter?"
    Minxie - I know this sounds foolish, but I often wish they would tell me, yes it has spread, so I can stop waiting and worrying. And this is even worse - I'm self pay, they didn't find anything on my $3000 bone scan and I felt jipped ;) this thing will make you crazy!
    Kathy - I hope your new roommate works out well. Have you put a to do list, on the fridge?
    Bernie - thanks for the chuckle!
    Victoria, you will get through chemo. In addition to the support here, you may want to find a chemo thread for your timeline. I think there is a May/June group. That way you have a group that is all going throught it together. What are you getting besides Taxatore?
    Minxie, hugs to you for going through this again. Your comment on rads made me pause for a minute. I have had BMX with lat flap surgery too. RO consulted with BS + pathologist and deemed rads were not necessary. I was actually glad because I didn't want to deal with recon complications from rads. Curious how you came to the no rads decision last time. PM me if prefer.
    Well, I am having my last tx today. I will wait to celebrate until all the SEs have passed. Will have baseline tumor markers, vit D levels and CT/bone scans done next. None of those have been done yet. Then it seems like I will be done until my 3 mo follow up assuming nothing shows up.
    For all you that have more post tx time under your belt, does this sound like a standard post tx plan? Feels like I am missing something but maybe I just have to get used to that feeling.
    Ladies - so many wonderful posts to read, so much to catch up with.  I have a question for you all today - Did any one of you have an ongoing tummy ache during Rads or a little after Rads finished?  I remember I finished Rads in March,2011 and had the tummy pain until July.  That's when I had a colonoscopy done and everything turned out to be normal.  From time to time even now, I get that same tummy ache. I am wondering if I had any damage to my colon from the Rads.  I googled and did find that yes, Rads can cause damage to some people's colons, however, the symptoms would be rectal bleeding, diarrhoea, etc.  I don't have those symptoms.  I just have pain all over, and believe me you, the pain does not go away, no matter if you put a heating pad on your tummy all night, take anti-gas, or anti-acid, nothing helps.  For the last few days I have been having pain and I think it came from eating flax seeds and cottage cheese (budwig diet).  That same pain has returned.
    For those of you who are trying the budwig diet, do you have tummy pain or any stomach issues?  Wrenwood, are you still doing the budwig diet?  Any issues?
    Painting - how about you, are you still doing the budwig diet?  How long is one supposed to do this, forever or for a period of time only?  I cut down the flax oil and the flax seeds to 1 tsp, the cottage cheese to just 1 tblsp. , even with this I have pain all day in my tummy.  I just don't want to stop this, as it makes me feel so good.  I think it brought up my estrogen levels which is exactly what I needed.  I am so scared to eat this again, as I have been suffering from this tummy ache for the last 2 days. Once it starts, there is no end to the gassy pain.  And I don't think it is gas, but something else. Painting, Wreenwood - do you guys have any suggestions?  Do you eat on an empty stomach?
    Victoria - not knowing what to expect from chemo is scary. For me, the side effects didn't kick in, until days 2 or 3. I remember waking up after the first treatment
    thinking, "I've had worse hangovers than this" . Just stay hydrated, take your meds on time and buy some stool softeners - be gentle to your tummy and don't eat high fiber things for a few days after treatment. You can do this!
    Stayshiny - you do feel rather cut loose, once you've finished treatment. It will pass. Looking forward to hearing about your wonderful post chemo scans and markers. If the fear sneaks up on you, we're here to hold your hand.
    Stayshiny - I originally had a lumpectomy, axillary node dissection, and then 5 months of chemo for TN IDC in early 09. When I went for a 6 month mammo after original diagnosis, they found DCIS in my bad breast, right after finishing chemo, right when I was starting rads.
    I had done a total of 5 days of rads when me, my med and rad onc decided the best way to proceed with the new DCIS diagnosis was a BMX. We stopped rads and took off both breasts and did reconstruction. Often when people have MX they don't do rads since it's assumed most of the breast tissue is removed... but they always remind you they can never get it all. And in my case, even after lumopectomy and MX enough was left behind to form a new IDC TN tumor in the exact same spot on the breast! Which is why I wish I'd gone through with rads first and then done the BMX. But at that point I was soooo sick of it all and wanted the nightmare over ASAP - unfortunatley it still hasn't ended.
    Thanks for sharing Minxie. There just isn't a crystal ball for this stuff. Wish there was. Hope this round blasts those baddies right out!
    Titan, I lost a post yesterday too. Same thing, left it for a while. When I came back, typed more and poof...nothing but a blank page. Couldn't get it back. Very frustrating!
    I never thought of chemo as a hangover...maybe because there was no fun before. Keeps reminding me of a bad bout of the flu with a new twist each time.
    Thanks for all the humor. I find I am needing lots of it lately. Been watching funnier shows. Can't take much else.
    wow..the old stomach distress..I either had constipation or diarrhea...nothing in between...nasty crap (pun intended)...but...your stomach issues will get back to somewhat normal...it doesn't take long..I don't remember too many issues with taxol..mostly with the Ac...still can't tolerate any fried foods at all..
    Cannot thank you all for the laughs!!  I am a most serious person and it takes a lot to make me smile, but this has been a great evening of reading!!!
    hey riley thanks for the pict. of the waterlilies. am going to look into the ones I can leave year round as well!
    StayShiny - i also was timid about celbrating the ending of the tx. for me -my ONC didn't feel it necessary to do anytype of post testing which made me very paranoid!!! now just blood work for me every 4-6months and and occassional chest x-ray. hang in there!
    For those of you up all night I do feel for you - I couldn't sleep for almost 36 hours after each of my tx. At least I wasn't sick all the time like with the Ad/cytoxin. Amazing how each of us react differently and make it through!
    Thinking of all you wonderful ladies out there tonight.
    Lovely Face...I am still on the Budwig Diet because, like you, it makes me feel good. Gives me lots of energy for most of the day. I have it every OTHER  morning (on an empty stomach). I use 1 cup of organic cottage cheese and 1 tablespoon of flax oil. After blending with a stick type immersion blender, I add Manuka Honey, Brazil nuts and fruit (blueberries and strawberries). I remember you saying you were using a regular blender.....it is important to use an immersion blender. It may be that the flax oil is not getting infused into the cottage cheese and that is what is causing the stomach issues. If you think the Budwig protocol is the cause you should discontinue it. Maybe try just once a week and see what happens. I am not sure if Painting is still checking this thread...maybe you could PM her. Hope you are feeling better....stomach issues not fun.
    Kelly, our responses to chemo really seems to be a total crapshoot, doesn't it? It's frustrating to not know how you and the tumor will react.
    One of my oncologists said that often, how we tolerate chemo may be genetic; if you tolerate it fairly well, it's a lucky roll of the dice to make up for the crappy one that let us get cancer in the first place, maybe. He and I were discussing that it had taken a long time for my hair to fall out. It never really all fell out, I just got sick of looking at it thinning and finally whacked it off.
    I had told him that when my Dad had lung cancer, he'd tolerated chemo fairly well and his hair had only thinned. We worried at the time that it might mean that his chemo wasn't working, but this onc said there was NO correlation between side effects and efficacy. That some people sail through chemo with good results, while other dear souls have horrible side effects and then find out the chemo isn't working, anyway. It would totally suck to be in that last group. I muddled through fairly well (no long-term SEs that I know of, no neuropathy, etc., although I wasn't happy about temporarily losing all of my fingernails and toenails). I didn't have a complete response to the chemo, but it did knock the tumor down from 4.5 x 4 cm at the beginning of chemo to 1.1 cm by surgery. The tumor did leave behind what the surgeon called "architectural distortion", which made him recommend MX. He's kind of known for trying to save the breast whenever possible, and I wanted them both off. I thought I'd have to argue my case for MX, and then didn't. Laughing
    A 72-year-old man goes for a physical. All of his tests come back normal so the doctor says, "Paddy, everything looks great. How are you doing mentally and emotionally? Are you at peace with God?" Paddy replies, "God and I are tight. He knows I have poor eyesight, so he's fixed it when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! the light goes on. When I'm done, poof! then the light goes off. "Wow, that's incredible," the doctor says.
    A little later in the day, the doctor calls Paddy's wife. "Mrs O'Reilly," he says, "Paddy is doing fine but I had to call you because I'm in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night and poof! The light goes on in the bathroom, and when he's done, poof! The light goes off?"
    "OH GOOD GRIEF!" Mrs O'Reilly exclaims, "He's peeing in the fridge again!"-
    Hi caroline,
    They will give you anti sickness medication, both at the time of treatment and to take after. If it isnt working ring them in Limerick or if your mouth becomes sore. You may be given steroids and these will give you energy for about 3 days and when I got into the routine I learned to do any hectic stuff then . I baked all my xmas cakes at 5am 2 days after my chemo.
    The breast care nurses are great, mags , michelle and laura and you can ring them or speak to them in the day centre. The support centre in the ground of the hospital offers different therapies and help. Did you get your medical card and your travel to care grant?
    The women on these TNBC threads are incredible and give great support and laughter.
    I am attempting the flora womens marathon on monday and if I feel like giving up I will think of you and bernie ellen and keep on going.
    Sending you healing thoughts and ask ask ask
    Good Evening Ladies
    Dulcie/Kathrynn - may be as we are older we can laugh a bit more about BC and just think, ok you can just sod off, you've taken my boob/boobs but you aint having my humour.
    Tazzy -  I've been trying to find normal all my life love and I aint found it yet.
    Wow what cold winters you have.  One of our locum doctors comes from Vancouver every year from November to March then he goes home for the summer. Wise man.
    Yep was up until the wee small hours just like you. There is only so much solitaire you can play at night and then its back to bed to dream about taxol.
    OBXK - what's a 'thing' aversion. Is that something like my aversion to mushrooms and rhubarb.  Haven't been ablt to stomach rhubarb since a boy at my primary school (!!!) vomited it up one day in front of me and rhubard was in the vomit. Yucky little sod spoilt my day.
    Great idea about the warm socks and pants for rads. I will keep that in mind for mine.
    On the wheat bag if you post me your address I will send you one. They make your arm a bit pink with the warmth  but they can find a vein easily enough and the pink will go quickly.  They are also good for warming and putting on back backs, legs etc.
    Ah the son, don't you just love young love providing it doesn't produce anything!!
    You are not fat, you might be gassy (you need a good fart) but not fat.  You are what you are and we all love you anyway.
    Why do you have to get croissants from France. America has everything in my book.
    That is a terrible thing to admit "you have had worse hangovers" than chemo. Shame on you.
    Mags20487 - talking about the nether regions well when I go for treatment I always wonder if the loo is cleaned properly so I sit on the very edge of the seat on the edge of my knickers so I don't have to touch the seat much. Well when I went this time I forgot about not  having any pubs to direct the flow and I wet all the edges of my knickers.  Christ was it embarrassing walking back into the chemo room gingerly all wet.  All I could think of was disinfectant, disinfectant.
    Titan - totally wrong you warm your arm or legs etc with the wheat bag not your dishes lol, lol, lol.
    Riley702 - I often wonder if my chemo is working as after a day or two of SE's I bounce back very quickly. I find I worry about it a lot.
    Genetics.  I sent my blood sample and death certificates away almost three months ago.  All they did at todays visit was talk a whole lot of jumble about genes which totally went over my head and then said she had to make a decision on whether I was  tested.  I was gob smacked as she said yes she is going to test and send the sample to Australia and the results would take three months.  What a waste of time.  So we all went and had a lovely lunch.
    Minxie - great news on clean margins and no positive nodes. Way to go.  You just need the good news to sink in then you will be happy.
    Kathyrnn - bloody cold shoving that icecream there!! what do I do with it after!
    BernieEllen - great joke.  Made my day.
    Victoria3N - I too shake in my boots for every little bit of treatment. They must think here comes 'oh neurotic one'.  Port placement is ok just a bit sore on the breast bone if you try to sleep on that side for a while but my port on my chest was not too sore.  Just ask them to place it away from your bra strap. You will be fine with chemo, ask the girls on here.
    Lovelyface - stay off google pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Best bit of advice I was ever given.
    Well ladies on that note I will leave you until the next time. Have a good day/night. Keep well and happy. Annie
    Just a quick post, because I'm grabbing a day of joy!
    I had to take my friend to the airport in Providence, which just so happens is about the half-way point to Foxwoods Casino. My neighbor is doing guard duty on Mama and I'm on my way to go play poker for the day. Already had some luck, lol, got behind a tractor-trailer hauling ass down the highway (if you have a lead foot, you want to get behind a truck driver, the have a CB and know where the cops are). Having breakfast and will be at the tables soon.
    Cocker - you're absolutely right, they'll never get my sense of humor! And I forgot to tell you, don't eat the ice cream after, lol
    I think this has to be the busiest board on this site... phew !
    Minxie - BC can make us all very numb and emotionless I think... especially when you hear so much its too much to take in.
    OBXK - you are getting croissants from France... sounds very decadent - really ?!  What's wrong with American ones.
    Kathyrnn - Maxine is my role model - ha ha !!  You and Cocker crack me up... you are hilarious. thanks you for making us laugh - its what we all need.
    Bernie - thanks for the chuckle - lmao.
    Victoria.... Good luck with the port and the tests.... It's a horrible time eh?   My last 4 treatments were
    Taxotere (2 more to go) .  Agree with OBKX - Se's kicked in couple of days after - like you said thought had worse
    hangovers... good analogy.  And everytime I felt crap I thought to myself if its doing this to me... it must be kicking
    cancer's butt.
    StayShiny  - hope your last treatment went well.
    Riley - sorry you lost all your nails... did they not give you frozen gloves to wear?  I do (only for the hands though) and although my nails are weaker I still have them.   That would suck!
    Linali.... Good luck at the marathon.
    To anyone else and all of you - have a wonderful day and good luck at the casino Kathy.
    Hugs and positive vibes to you all
    Hi Wrenwood,  Thanks for your reply re: the Budwig diet.  I did buy an immersion blender and actually have been bonding the cottage cheese with FO from day one, with both the regular blender at first and the hand immersion blender.  I had read the diet thoroughly, actually I am very anal about such things when I am on to something.  At first even though I was using a regular blender, I was still bonding the two items exactly as instructed.  When they are bonded really well, one cannot see the yellow oil at all, it is a creamy white mixture to which I added manukka, brazil nuts and a little bit honey. The diet indicates, the ratio is one FO to two CC, so one to two.  But if it works for you to use 1 cup of CC, to only 1 tbl. FO, then maybe I could try that, although one cup to me will be a huge amount of CC to consume.  The diet also said to add 1 tbls. ground flax seeds (dark golden brown), to the mixture.  I tried different things, such as not using the ground flax, still had the pain, then I tried to reduce the FO to only 1 tsp., still had the stomach pain.  I think my pain has something to do with the sulphur in the CC.
    I was so impressed with this diet the way it was producing positive effects at every level.  My thinning hair became thicker overnight, people told me I was losing weight, I felt a surge of energy, no more lethargy, and my skin is glowing.  I think I finally achieved hormonal balance.  But now, this damn stomach pain.  The pain does not go away with anything, such as drinking warm water all day, taking gas/anti-acids, eating, it just is there all the time.  The stomach is finally getting back to normal today.  After I consume the stuff, at first there is no pain, but it starts after about 4 hours, bloating, pain, some gas.......  I am thinking about eating something first in the morning and then consuming this at around 10.  But now I am so freaked out about the pain, I just cannot go through several days of pain once it goes back to normal this time.
    I will try to send a pm to painting.  This amazing scientist had something really going with this discovery. I think she was brilliant. Two simple foods can create so much cure, I believe in this diet.  Thanks again, and I am so glad this is working for you.  I just wish I could know the secret to the cause of the pain, is it the FO or the CC, and if it is the sulphur, then what could possibly calm it down.  Oh - one thing I forgot - I found out that maybe I could be allergic to the flax seeds.  Not sure how to get that checked.
    Jane was a first time contestant on the $65,000 quiz show. Lady luck had smiled in her favor, as Jane had a gained substantial lead over her opponents. She even managed to win the game but, unfortunately, time had run out before the show's host could ask her the big question.
    Jane agreed to return the following day. Jane was nervous as her husband drove them home. "I've just gotta win tomorrow. I wish I knew what the answers are! You know I'm not going to sleep at all tonight. I will probably look like garbage tomorrow. "Relax honey," her husband, Roger, reassured her, "It will all be OK."
    Ten minutes after they arrived home, Roger grabbed the car keys and started heading out the door. "Where are you going?" Jane asked. "I have a little errand to run. I should be back soon."
    After an agonizing 3 hour absence, Roger returned, sporting a very wide and wicked grin. "Honey, I managed to get tomorrow's question and answer!" "What is it?" she cried excitedly.
    "OK. The question is 'What are the three main parts of the male anatomy?' And the answer is 'The head, the heart, and the penis.' " The couple went to sleep with Jane, now feeling at ease, plummeting into a deep slumber.
    At 3:30 a.m., however, Jane was shaken awake by Roger, who was asking her the quiz show question. "The head, the heart, and the penis," Jane replied groggily before returning to sleep. And Roger asked her again in the morning, this time as Jane was brushing her teeth. Once again, Jane replied correctly.
    So it was that Jane was once again on the set of the quiz show. Even though she knew the question and answer, she could feel butterflies. The cameras began running and the host, after reminding the audience of the previous days' events, faced Jane and asked the big question.
    "Jane, for $65,000, what are the main parts of the male anatomy? You have 10 seconds."
    "Hmm, uhm, the head?" she said nervously. "Very good. " Six seconds." "Eh, uh, the heart?" "Very good! Four seconds." "I, uhh, ooooooohh, darn! My husband drilled it into me last night and I had it on the tip of my tongue this morning..."
    "That's close enough!" said the game show host, "CONGRATULATIONS!!"
