BarbaraA-Sorry to hear your sad news. Blessings to you and your family. Thank you for walking for us as well, even with all you are going through. You are amazing!

Grannydukes - Yay for NED! Healing up ok?
BarbaraA - Sorry to hear about your dad. I was with my dad when he died a few years ago. He was a great guy and sometimes I think of how brave he was getting through dialysis and diabetes when I have to do my stuff with chemo.

Hello to all, guess I fit in here as I was diagnosed April 23, 2010. I had my lumpectomy May 3. Onco score of 9 so no chemo, and radiation from June 16 - Aug 4. I'm on Femara now, with mild side effects, but nothing intolerable. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and hope I can offer you encouragement and support. I'm looking forward to a trip to Cincinnati next weekend to join my sister and her family in a "Spin for the Cure". Don't know how much spinning I'll actually do, but it will feel good to know I'm doing something constructive to help not only others, but myself as well. I need motivation to get up, get moving and get fit!

Has anyone else noticed a change in allergies, particularly food allergies? I have been allergic to milk and cheeses since I was a small child. They always made me break out in a nasty rash. But I had a friend bring dinner for us last night and I was so tired that I did not pay attention to the fact that it had cheese in it. Long story short - I did not break out after eating it! Now I am wondering if I could now eat chocolate with out getting a migraine headache.

grannydukes- Whooo hoo! Crank up that salsa music!
Tmarina- Let's hope there are LOTS of Neds for all of us to dance with at the Ball!
amyjo- I LOVE your attitude! When wondering if your allergies have changed due to chemo, you are not worrying about what you can't eat....you are wondering if you can finally eat chocolate! Please let us know if your allergies changed for the good....and make sure it is the BEST chocolate!
BarbaraA- I'm so sorry your dad had to leave. It is unthinkable when parents go. From our very first breath, they have always been there. I know he will be saving you a seat....hopefully a long time from now.

So.... apparently there ARE two separate threads for those of us diagnosed in 2010?

Amyjo--> Are you taking steroids? The steroids I get with chemo keep away my seasonal allergies.
0 -
Amyjo - good question. I don't know about chemo changing allergies, but in general I know you can grow out of allergies over a lifetime and you can develop different ones over a lifetime too. When I was little I was told I was allergic to just about everything - dogs, cats, dust, pollen, etc. Seasonal pollen still bothers me and now mold, but no problems w/dogs/cats anymore. Sure worth a try - ask your doc! They may say to try very small amounts or you can always get tested.

Hello Calleigh- sorry you are joining us, but ask away and let us help you. I would be a basket case without my sisters on this thread. I understand the whole whirlwind. Mine started the last day of June. One day you are fine the next day boom you have cancer!
Take someone with you to your appointment tomorrow. Take notes, or record if your doc allows you to. You don't need to make the decision on treatment tomorrow. You can take time to think and get a second opinion if you so choose.
This is still surreal for me and i've already started chemo. Believe me accepting it does get easier. This is a great group of ladies, ask us any questions you may have, we really do understand.

BarbaraA ~ very sorry to hear about your father's passing, may he find eternal peace. Prayers for you and your family. Thank you for walking for all of us.
Hello SDcheryl & Calleigh & Michelle
Yay to Granny and Shelmel for good news.
I just came home from meeting the Ta-Ta Sisters here in Las Vegas, great group of ladies. I hope they post the pictures soon.
After a few weeks delay due to infection, I will be starting rads tomorrow and will start counting down the 33 txs. My PET scan came back clear so I am relieved for now.

Hi sistas,
BarbaraA - My heart goes out to you at this time of loss. I know the pain that your feeling right now as I've lost both my parents and have lost a husband also. Nothing I can say can stop that right now but although there will always be a loss the pain does ease. Praying that you have the strength you need to get through this.
Grannydukes - Hurray for NED!!!!!!! That is great news and its high time you had some of that.
To ALL THE NEW SISTERS - Welcome! Best of Luck in your journey with BC. Here you won't feel alone.
Yesterday I was proud and moved to wear the pink t-shirt (breast cancer survivor shirt) in the run for the cure. I met another breast cancer survivor and we chated at some length. I will be looking for her again next year as she runs every year as it is was her 6th year wearing the pink t-shirt. It was so moving to see the support we were recieving, all the pink and all the men there. Each supporting someone they know with breast cancer. I was there supporting each and every one of my sisters at breastcancer.org.

Welcome to all the new sisters! So sorry we have to meet here, but this is the best place to come for information, understanding, encouragement, love and support. Ask anything you want and someone will have an answer or advice on what to do and feel free to just vent frustrations. We are all on the same ship and truly understand what you are going through.
JanetnVirginia - I just got retested in December and it showed that I was still allergic to all the same things as I have been for most of my life. I get tested every 5-7 years just to check, because I am allergic to so many different things. My report is usually about 37 pages of things I am allergic to and what the reaction was and the level of the reaction. So this is something really new.
TMarina - No I am not on steroids yet. Probably will start those later this month. I have to wait and see what the next round of test show and see if my treatments will change yet again.
DesignerMon - I jump at the chance to find something new that I can eat because I have always been allergic to so many things that it is usually easier to list the things I can eat than those that I cannot eat. Since I have not eaten chocolate what is the BEST chocolate? I think I am ready to risk the possibility of a migraine, just to try it out. ;-)
Jag - You are so right about this being surreal and hard to accept. You all were so supportive when reality finally hit me last week with the arrival of my new medical alert charms for my necklace and bracelet. Once the crying had eased and I had shared everything with my sisters here I felt better, but it is still hard to accept that this will be with me forever.
DiamondGirl - congratulations on the clear PET scan. Now stay healthy so you can get through the next 33 weeks. We will be counting them down with you.
Today I have an appointment with the surgeon that put in my power port to try and figure out why my left arm is hurting so bad and my left hand is so tingly. It start hurting for no apparent reason and does not seem to be connected to anything I do or don't do. This morning I am going to the ACS Look Good, Feel Better class and I am looking forward to learning some new things as I have not worn makeup in over 40 years! But now I am looking so pale that one of my son-in-laws calls me Snow White. Hope everyone has a great week and has time to rest and enjoy the changing season.
Joy and blessings,
Amy Jo

Hi Calleigh. I'm glad you posted. I had about the same timing on diagnosis as you. And, it has been a complete blur the last month. I will never think about September the same way again. These forums & sisters have helped so much emotionally and also to fill in the gaps on information & experiences. So, share your ups & downs. There is always someone 24/7 to hold your hand - and always someone else who needs a hand held too

Tek-Thanks for running. Calleigh, welcome. Sorry you are here. Sorry I am here, too.

Welcome to all the newcomers!
Caleigh- It looks like you are node negative. As I understand, the new thinking is that chemo is not a given if you are node negative. Usually they order the Oncotype DX test (tests 21 genes to evaluate your recurrence risk). Based on your score, and other factors, they make the decision on chemo. Be sure to ask your Onc about this test and whether you will get it.
Amyjo- Ahhhh, chocolate. Our family is partial to Godiva chocolate. My son likes the milk chocolate, I like the dark chocolate. Fortunately (or NOT!) we have a Godiva store 10 blocks from our home. They give out free samples on Saturdays! Have fun at Look Good, Feel Better!

DesignerMom - The Godiva store is in the mall that is 3 miles from my house. I will go tomorrow and try a little. I'll let you know how it goes after that.
I went to the surgeon for the numbness in my arm and the tingling in my hand and he had no real answer so we are trying a nerve blocker to see if that will help. We are playing with the dosage starting with as needed and if that does not help then we will go to a regular schedule. Here's hoping that this will help even though it is more pills!
I also went to the Look Good, Feel Better program be the ACS. I learned a lot! I have not worn makeup in about 40 years and the session on how to do apply everything was good. I really look different with makeup on. Everyone I saw today notice how good and different I looked. Getting to keep all the products that were for my skin type was great. I don't have to go to the store and try to figure out what I need. I knew the lady that did the session on hats and scarfs and she was great. I had taken my hat and she used it to show how many different looks I could get from just that one hat! It was great. Everyone should go to one of these.
I am so glad the cooler weather is here. I am not a summer person, I love the cold and snowy weather where you can get comfy be the fireside.
Hope everyone has had a good day and has a restful night.

AmyJo, you go to the Godiva store! I wish I liked chocolate. I know, I know, sacrilege. I love FL in the fall/winter/spring. It is like everywhere else in fall. Nice and crisp, bright blue skies, and low humidity. I have been sleeping with the windows open. Should be good until April unless we have freezing cold weather like last year. I had the heat on from Oct-Apr. That really sux. I like having a low electric bill Oct-Apr. Not last year.

Just catching up on everyone...
BarbaraA, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm sure you will miss his greatly. It's hard to part with someone you've loved so dearly.
Welcome to the newer ladies and those that just found us! There is so much information here and everyone is sooo helpful.
I finally went to my second session at the gym. Trying to walk the 30 min that everyone says is good for me. One of the trainers came over and told me that they were having a class to raise money for BC. Sorry, but I had a hard time listening. I know that they're trying to help but, it's the prevention that nobody seems to get. I'm like so many of you. I didn't do any of the "stuff" that they keep telling us to keep away from or will prevent. Is their head in the sand? In the meantime, I come here, get rejuvenated, rewired and go on....

Hey, GD. Yes, yes, yes.
My husband went to the store today and bumped into a lovely woman we know, a friend who just lost her mother. Now, her daughter, 38, has the "thing." I can't imagine what she's going through as the mother....
Moving on, joined a gym this week. Lifting (5 lbs) for the arm toning. Ball sit-ups for the abs. and 30 minute alpines on the gerbil machine (aka treadmill). Helps the head.
Lurking, and following, and thinking of you all.
And praying for you every time I do.

is there anyone else who cant stop eating? im bloody hungry all the time. And im worried im going to gain tonnes of weight- i know its pretty petty considering everything, but jeez i worked so hard to lose my weight after two pregnancies!!!
0 -
redninrah - me too!!!!! I have put myself on time-out for this round. Smaller portions, no sweets, less bread, more tea. Hope that helps, my weight went up 5 pounds the last round! Argh.0
-
Redninrah: Me too! I don't know if it's stress or steriods or what, but I'm eating like a maniac. I lost 50 pounds over the last two years and I've put about half of it back on since my diagnosis in May. I keep waiting for the loss of appetite and metallic taste that will make food taste bad, but not for me. I know I should be grateful and nutrition is so important while we are doing chemo, but I have got to stop the madness! I am starting to exercise a little more now after a 3 month layoff, so hopefully, that will slow the weight gain. Plus I quit smoking before my surgery in July, so that hasn't helped any with the weight gain.
