jorja - It is a new primary then not a recurrence, is that true?

Omaz- There is a blood test which tests whether you are metabolizing Tamoxifen. I tried to find the name but couldn't. I read about it on the "taking Tamoxifen" thread. Some doctors dismiss it and think you should just try the Tamoxifen and see. What I don't understand is how can they determine whether it is actually doing anything? Tamoxifen has some very significant risk of SE to just "try it and see".

Jorja- So sorry that you have to go through this AGAIN. Let us know how we can help.

Jag- How are you doing? Great to hear from you. How are your treatments going? How is your son's broken leg?

    Hi everyone,

I was dx'd with IDC on Oct. 6, 2010, and had a unliateral mx on 10/26. The SNB frozen section came back negative, but we are still waiting for final path report in order to stage and determine next steps. I had a lat flap reconstruction at time of surgery and still have 2 drains in. I am also doing hyperbaric oxygen treatments (HBO) because I'm diabetic and the PS felt that HBO is helpful in getting a good outcome for the lat flap.

I'm really nervous about the path report - I do know that I'm ER+/PR+ from the core biopsy done earlier this month.

    Aaack. BC is a drag.

    Hugs to all,

    Lisa

Hi goatlisa -  Glad your surgery is behind you & on the road to recovery!  There is another woman over on the October 2010 Mastectomy forum who had the hyperbaric treatment too- you should pop over there as well.  And, we all certainly relate to the nerve-wracking waiting!  Vast majority of frozen section results hold up in the final report, so keep that in mind.  Hoping for the best!

goatlisa, the waiting really stinks. There is a lot of waiting with BC.

Thanks for all these supportive replies!  I'm still waiting--hoping to talk to my onc sometime today.  Then boy do I have questions!  I don't know if it's a recurrence or a new one.  And so far, all I know is there is DCIS involved, so maybe we got it early enough this time.

You know, I hope my "second time" story isn't bumming anyone out too much.  It happens sometimes, but lots of times it doesn't.  and the good news is, if you stay vigilant and IF there is a second time, it gets caught earlier and (hopefully) the road is a little shorter.  Meanwhile, I had 11 years of cancer-free existence.  But boy am I pissed now!  Watch out, BC--I'm coming to get you!Yell

Granny, I am a granny too and I'm praying really hard for your grandson!

jorja -  Don't you worry about bumming us out now girl!  We are here to face it with you!  We all of course feel for you and we know there is always that chance but pray we never have to face what you must face again.  So sorry (hugggs).  Stand strong and you WILL beat it again for another 11 + years.  Your great attitude is surely showing ... watch out BC .... she's coming to get you.  And hey... welcome back even if we wish you didn't have the need.

goatlisa - Hi, and welcome.  Sorry you must face this BC but we will face it along with you.  Waiting is always the worst.  It wasn't so long ago and I was waiting like you.  I'm still in chemo and have Rads to do next but I must say the waiting stage is so difficult.  Best thing I can offer to tell you now is to join in here often and read and you will learn.  The more you learn the more empowered you will become for the BC battle.  Good Luck to you.

Granny, so glad your grandson is ok, I have 2 myself and coundnt bare the thought of something happening to them. Tell us how he is.

I never thought I would say this, but I cant wait to go to the BS for my follow up tomorrow morning! Im thinking positive and have a good feeling that I will have clean margins this time then I can move on to the next step.  Not that Im looking forward to chemo, but looking forward to getting on with my life.

My daughter wants to come over with her friend and the kids to cook Thanksgiving dinner for me, and the bf's family will be invited. Im so worried It will fall on a bad day for me. It will be so hard to have a house full of people and be sick. I couldnt turn her down, she was so excited about doing this for me. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Hope everyone is doing well, I just wanted to check in and say hi.

Welcome to the new sisters.  So sorry we have to meet here on this site, but this is the very best place to be for information, encouragement and support.  Don't worry about bumming us out, we all have our good days and bad days and freely share them with each other.

I hope this one gets posted.  The last 2 I have tried to do have not shown up.  I have no clue what I am doing wrong, anyway hopefully this one will post.

grannydukes - glad your GS is coming home.  Let us know how he is doing.  We are still praying for both of you.

I am scheduled for another bone scan on the 9th then radiation will start on the 11th.  It will only be for 10 days on my spine.  I finally got some new pain meds that I have not had an allergic reaction to, at least not yet.  This constant pain is no fun.  Hopefully between the new meds and the radiation it will get better soon.

Oh AmyJO, I think the radiation will really help you. Big hugs for you!

GD, please let us know how Eddie, Jr is doing. It is a good sign that he is home.

  • Hello Sistahs!

Welcome Lisa and Jorja!  This is the best place to be.  Chatting here got me through surgeries, drains, and chemo, especially on those days when I was confined to the couch and sick of TV.

Grannydukes - so glad your grandson is recuperating at home.  Any time I hear motorcyle and accident in the same sentence I get scared.  Saw a bad one one time and the image will never leave my mind.  Praying for his complete recovery.

Barbara - I was thinking about you last night while trying to get to sleep despite the steroids jacking me up.  Are you sleeping better these days?  If so, what seemed to help the most?

Had my last chemo yesterday and am soooo glad to be done with that.  Just gotta get through the next 10 days of feeling lousy, and then on to radiation.  I looked at some of the pics on TimTam's site and it sure does make me question going through 33 rads.  It's not going to be as easy as I was thinking, and trying to go back to work part time too.  Now wondering if I should've just had a mastectomy.  Ugh.  My head hurts already!

Trying to catch up with everyone's posts but know I'm far behind.  Hope everyone is faring well through their SEs.

MrsNice - Congratulations on finishing chemo.  I know you are glad that is over.  We have missed you around here.  You will catch up in no time.  Try not to think too far ahead. Just keep going one day at a time.  Hope you feel better soon.

MrsNice - CONGRATS ON THE END OF CHEMO - Sending balloons your way!!!!  Can hardly wait to join you!  It's truely a milestone and I think it calls for a celebration!   Dinner out?  Make some plans and enjoy... your getting there!

AmyJo - Pain is not an accepted option today.  Never just let it happen, they have ways of dealing with it but sometimes takes a bit to get under control.  Good Luck.

{{{MRSNICE}}}}} YAY to no chemo! What a relief. I used emu oil on my breast during rads and had no burning so I would try it. The stuff the doc RX'd me did nothing except make it worse so I switched back and my breast was fine in two days. RE; the not sleeping, I saw a shrink who specializes in PTSD and she helped me with self hypnosis relaxation techniques and a took melatonin as well. It was a rough couple months but I am on the mend and actually am continuing the relaxation technique in group therapy. Very useful especially for grabbing 10 minutes of deep relaxation here and there throughout the day.

    Hi ladys,

I got the good news I was hoping for. I finally got clean margins! Actually, he got it the first time, but cells were close, so the second time was Neg. Monday I will call the onc office and see when he wants me to have the port placed and start my chemo. Can someone pm me the site for the radiation page everyone is mentoning. I think its Mrs Nice's page........ I need that too and wondering what everyone is talking about.

The Fentanyl is working really well.  I had almost forgotten what it felt like to not hurt with every move.  Good news is that I have not had any kind of allergic reaction with the Fentanyl.

Hope everyone has a restful evening.
