Hi Remember me?  Wow I haven't been on in such a long time...I hope things are going well for everyone.  I don't have the internet at the safenet house I'm surrently at...and I haven't been working much. I'm just really tired, so I try to rest a lot.  I have my exchange surgery date.  Originally I was scheduled for Oct.1, but I decided to postpone it until Nov. 12th.  I just wasn't ready emotionally or physically.

    Anyone getting together anytime soon?

Emme:  good to hear from you.  It would be great if you could come on tuesday.

Sweetie:  Yes, I think she wants a baseline so she can watch for changes.  How is the Tamoxifin going for you?.  I think I will start soon.

Emme-good to hear from you, we missed you. If want to go to the dinner I'd call right away and secure your spot. She has two seats left at our table and if no one calls she is going to give them away because they have a waiting list. Emme you have Dr D right? I just had my exchange with him last week. He is simply amazing!

Heebie-I have no issues what-so-ever with Tamoxifen. I have been on it almost three months. I was so scared to start it and was worrying about SE. I walk every day and try to eat right so I don' t know it helps or if just a matter of some people have more SE than others. I wouldn't stress about it though. Just go ahead and try it and and see how you do. I'm sure it's going to be fine.

I stayed with the same surgeon at St. Francis who did the lumpectomy (Dr. Zarfos). She talked me out of nipple sparing, which I was thinking of originally. She said it just didn't make sense if I'm trying to reduce risk to leave tissue there, and they don't have long term studies to support it. I trust her. I keep having dreams that they're going to find cancer in there even though it didn't show up on the MRI. And dreams about being a reporter and asking people on the street if I'm making the right decision, etc.

kjbrown - My surgeon, Dr. Frank is in the same group and it was he who suggested Nipple Sparing to me.  However, when I saw my Onc and told her about nipple sparing she looked at me funny and said "did you PUSH him for nipple sparing?".  Then she called him to make sure he did all the right tests and such.  So I said, "are you concerned about cancer coming into the nipple".  And she said, no, but it is very unusual and not many are doing it.  So, assuming the nipple does not lead me into trouble, I just got lucky with getting the NSM.

    Heebie:

I had to have 16 rounds of chemo, and I must say this, my fear of chemo far outweighed the reality of chemo.  While it wasn't fun, I didn't get sick, I managed to go for a walk/jog every day and even dragged myself up on my horse once a week.  I also pulled off work.  I missed my hair and my eyelashes, but they're back and I can sit with the knowledge that I did everything humanly possible to keep the cancer from coming back.  Not sure if that helps or not.  I have a fabulous oncologist, Barbara Fallon at Grove Hill in New Britain, CT.  She came here from Harvard and Dana Farber in Boston.

    Stay sane :)

mimi - thanks for the input.  did you find you had any lasting effects like fatigue or "chemo brain" symptoms?  Was the 16 rounds 16 weeks or longer?  I'm glad it worked out ok for you.   Is your Onc associated with New Britain Hospital?

Sweetie- I do have Dr. D. I love him!  He has a wonderful bedside manner, and he does good work too!  He was onboard for my breast redustion 5 years ago. It is nice having a familiar face in the midst of all this uncertainty.

     Re Chemo:

I am still extremely fatigued.  I have no stamina.  I understand that my case is a bit different from all of the side nonsense that happened to me...but i am so ready to feel energetic again.  I am finally feeling like I can go into work for a few  more hours a week.  It is really hard for me to accept because I had such a physical job in the machine shop...now I just do office work..and that is trying enough. I keep plugging along though.

I called for a reservation but the man asked me to call back monday morning at 9:30...we shall see.  I'd love to be able to finally meet you all in person!

Have a great sunday and enjoy this perfect autumn day.

    Hi Heebie:

The chemo lasted 6 months.  I did 4 rounds of AC over 8 weeks, then I had three weeks off and then I did Taxol and Herceptin, 3 weeks on/ one week off for twelve more treatments.  I just finished another 9 rounds of Herceptin, once every three weeks- but no side effects with that. I had a much higher stage cancer than you though, so probably way more chemo than you would have to have. Dr. Fallon is affiliated with New Britain, but not one of the staff oncologists there, she has her own practice.

Emme- are you serious! When I called there were 2 seats left and she said she was going to give them away and I asked my other girlfriend to call and I told you. When I called back she said all sold out, it must have been you two that got the last two spots! Can't wait to meet you all. What to wear, hmmm maybe nice pants and a blouse. I don't even know because I have the darn surgical bra, but I think I am going to look for a new bra today.

I did go to BBS and let me tell you they are awesome over there. Everyone there is wonderful and nice and it all goes so smoothly. It's such a nice new place in a nice area too. The date will be here sooner than you know it. I'm excited for you, your going to love your new foobs.

Sweetie and I met at the Susan Love talk last night - Can't wait some more great 'sisters" tonight.

The talk was so helpful for me and I got answers to some of my most pressing questions.  Bottom line is I need a new Medical Oncoligist.  If anyone wants to share, please let me know if you have one you love and who it is (or if you don't like them, that will come in handy in my search as well.

Drat, I was going to tell you that I liked my oncologist and I can't remember her name. She's out of St. Francis (one syllable name). My memory for names is horrible. Dr. Rey? That might be it. I saw her twice (since I'm just high risk, and don't actually have cancer). I was amazed at her recall the second time about what we had talked about the first time, and her compassion and understanding.

kjbrown:  I looked at a st. francis list of dr.s and couldn't find a woman with a one syllable name - only Sporn who is a man.

Emme:  thanks for the name,  I will look into it.

When I looked on the St. Francis website, I didn't see it either, but when I did a search for her, I did. Weird. Here is the link: http://www.stfranciscare.org/body.aspx?id=15892

    Hi ladies:

It was very nice to meet so many of you last night.  As I sit looking around the table at all of us and all that we've gone through, it never ceases to amaze me that I can't tell the difference between "us" and the people that haven't had cancer in a room.  Some days I feel like a have a big "C" tattooed on my forehead!  Just goes to show what the human body and spirit are capable of :)

Hey my CT ladies-I had a great time meeting you all last night. I just want to say that each one of you are so beautiful and special. I am highly impressed with all of you and was honored to meet you. It  was so fun talking and laughing. The bathroom scene, well that was just plain hilarious. I'm so glad we could all get out and enjoy dinner and it was such a pleasure to be surrounded by all of you strong, courageous, young women. Yes young!  It has meant a lot to me to have your support as well as the support of  the BC.org women. It was great thing to actually get to meet some of the amazing ladies on here.

I loved meeting all of you!! My plastic boob did spend some time in Clorox bleach. Unbelievable!

I took your suggestion and called the cancer center and asked for Karen today. They asked if I wanted Karen Frank or Karen Weingard. I talked to both :)

Maybe it will help some other women from getting less than perfect boobs. I tend to doubt it though. We will see.

Please keep posting here and let me know how you all are doing. Strength in numbers - you all make me stronger.

Are any of you going to see Lily Tomlin Friday night?

Heebie-I meant to tell you that I was so happy you got to talk to Dr. Love on Monday night. That was meant to be that you would go and get to ask her that very important question. I thought her talk was great but even better something good came out of it for you. You really needed direction and I would totally trust her imput.

Claire-No can't go tonight. We have teacher's conferences for my son. I'm sure it's going to be fun though. Let us know how you like it.
