thanks LM- but i just dont feel attractive with the chubby face! how much did u gain. I will for sure work on it once im done CHEMO and not now. 100% positive that now is the time to focus on me and not some weight loss. But im just thinking ahead of the game on how i will be able tackle this. Its reassuring to hear that u lost it quickly
hows the tamoxifen? big tablet small? nuisance? i cant wait to be there soon. by the way, did u have an option to have ovaries removed?PM me.......(pls)

I gained 10 pounds during chemo and did not lose them after chemo was over. I started going to the gym and it took 4 months to lose those 10 pounds !! So now I'm back to where I was but it is hard work. I have to go to the gym as many times as I can to prevent the weight from coming back. On a side note, I have been on Tamoxifen for 11 months now, so maybe Tamoxifen has something to do with it.

redinrah- some of the weight gain in your face could be fluid retention from steroids if you take those with chemo too- I've heard someone call it moonface- doesn't help that you may have lost some of eyebrows/lashes by now too- I felt so unattractive at the end of chemo.

Hi all- I had my first treatment of taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin last week. Today a week later is first day that I feel like I can sit down. It really hit me, well guess it hits all of us. My question is if anyone went thru the same regimen are headaches normal? All of this is such a nighmare, after first chemo I wanted to give up its so hard with all the aches and pains and there is this guilt of not being able to be there for my kids, my mom is doing a great job taking care of them but I don't feel like a mother anymore, they are so little( 4and6) , I don't even feel like a women anymore. Are these feelings going to go away, sometimes feeling this way is harder than side effects from chemo. thank you all

Thanks for the feedback about Ryan and his wetting problem. I plan to bring it up today when I take the kids in for their flu shots. Can't hurt to test for a UTI, just in case.
Zlota - I know it's so hard! My kids are 3 and 6, and I was not able to be a mother while I was doing chemo. I started chemo in April (A/C) and finished in August (T/H). It was a long time to be sick. I did have a few days between treatments where I could be there for them, but even then, I was so tired. We watched alot of movies together, and they spent most of the time at my mom's house. Just know there is an end, and you will feel better. I've been done with chemo for almost 3 months now, and I am back to my old routine with the kids. They appreciate having me there more now too. Hang in there...you are not alone.

zlota, I did TCH and had awful headaches. My onc gave me fioricet (sp?) and I hobbled along through it. I was already seeing a neurologist for migraines so I had some powerful headache meds. I'm sorry you're going through that, it's just awful. Chemo, headaches, and guilt is an awful lot to bear... try not to feel bad. You have to do what you have to do so you can get healthy and be there for your kids for the long term. The feelings WILL go away, but I totally understand. Just hang in there... get through one day at a time. ((((Hugs))))

I got some amazing news today. I found out my insurance company approved me for Laratinib/Tykerb, AND I have an official appointment with Dr. Slamon!!! I got both bits of great news within a half hour of each other too. Now I just have to decide if I want to join the Neratinib trial or bank on Lapatinib. Hopefully Dr. Slamon will be able to help me decide. I also started rads today, so it's been a big day. I have to say, I haven't felt this positive about my future in a long time. I feel like I have quite a few options, and that is a good feeling.
I took the kids to get established with our new family doctor today (their pediatrician is going private), and they got their flu shots. We just saw the PA, but now if the kids get sick we can get in quickly. Turns out it is a very small world. The PA happens to be friends with one of my closest friends, and back in may she did the Komen Race For The Cure on my team (I was too sick to be there)! I had never met her, but she still did the walk in my honor. It's a neat story to tell.

Hi all...
My last chemo is November 16... TCH...
Then herceptin three weeks later...
Has anyone had herceptin... Is it easier than TCH....
0 -
Hi sohardbnme!
Congratulations on the last chemo! That's great! I didn't have TCH (I had A/C and Taxol). but for me, Herceptin was much easier than chemo. I really had no obvious SE's from Herceptin.

Ladies - I'm parachuting in to ask if you would help a new person find your thread. She just posted under Stage III listed as "31 and world crashing in" (can't remember exact title of the post).

deenah, I am SOOO happy for you!!! What a great day, thanks for sharing! Can't wait to hear what Dr. Slamon has to say for you. And your insurance is cooperating- fantastic! My TN friend has been trying to get her insurance to approve Avastin and they are just not working with her. Things are looking wonderful for you! It's so nice to have days like these to celebrate- it's the small victories, isn't it?!
Hi Sohard, Sassy picture!! Congrats on the upcoming last chemo! I did TCH and I'm now on Herceptin only. It's a breeze compared to TC... really no noticable s/e's, just give yourself time to recover from chemo.
Janet, thanks for the head's up... we'll send out some notes for our sister in need.
Thanks for the name, Nanna

Hi Melanie -
I just registered on here after rading through the reconstruction boards for a while this morning, I'm 6 days away from my exchange surgery.
I wanted to introduce myself & I thought this forum for women in their 30's was the appropriate place to do so. I'm 35, 34 at diagnosis this past June. IDC in my right breast, stage 2. Bi-lateral mastectomy in July, with expanders placed, chemo in August. Also in August my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer (we have no other family history other than the 2 of us). I'm finished with my treatment, mom's in the middle of hers. Luckily she lives really close to me so I'm her #2 caregiver after my dad! I have 2 little girls, Camryn is 9 and Lia (whom i lovingly call Doodie) just turned 2! I just started taking Tamoxifen this week also.

Heatherbelle654 - Glad you found us. Wishing you lots of luck with your exchange. I haven't had any reconstruction yet. So sorry about your Moms DX I can't imagine! But at least you both can be there for each other.

Hi Heather...Glad you joined us...

Hi Heather, nice to meet you! Welcome to our wonderful family. We sure as heck didn't choose to be here, but since we are we definitely support each other all we can. Sorry about you and your mom- that's tough. You had some great ta-ta's too. This disease blows. How are you feeling about your upcoming exchange? My friend with bmx looks fantastic- hope everything works out well for you. I know it's a lot to go through.
So Camryn and Doodie-bug... aww, I wish I had little girls! It's all boys around here for me.
For anyone who has both boys/girls... which do you think is more difficult? I find myself wishing I had a little buddy to go get a pedi done with, or go shopping! My boys HATE shopping! But then I hear that teen girls come with DRAMA! My boys are slobs!!! So is my DH. Fun times for me!!!

Lady_Madonna - I have 2 Stepdaughters Shelby is 19 and Kelsey is 17 then my two are Zach 8 and Makena is 5. Girls are so different than boys! Boys are easier I think because they don't whine as bad and alot less drama. My Husband and I had full custody of the older girls from ages 5 and 7 until they were 15 and 17. The drama is unbelievable, Kelsey doesn't even speak anymore she is such an angry child lots of baby mama drama with that one! My son seems easier than my daughter but she is more willing to tell me what is wrong if she is upset and things like that she is an open book kind of like me. Zach on the other hand is a typical little man it's like pulling teeth to figure out what is going on with him. I do enjoy the girl time that I have with my daughter and I couldn't imagine not having her in my life. My Husband and Zach are big sports fanatics and I would be so lonely without her. We got our first pedi done together for Mothers day it was so fun. But my son is so amazing and there is something to be said about a Mother son relationship too. I can already tell what kind of man he will be he is so protective of me and his sister and very loving. All and all I think that children in general are one of the only reasons this world is worth being in sometimes. Oh and Lady you will miss those slobs soon. Enjoy them until they move on and their wives are picking up after them!

Melanie, I have one boy and one girl, and my son is DEFINITELY much easier than my daughter. He's 9 and has always been easy...very compliant and a rule-follower. She's strong-willed and LOVES to push my buttons. If I say "black" she says "white". Even at the tender age of 6, I believe she does this just to aggravate me. Can't wait for the pre-teen and teen years...I'll have to keep an open bottle of wine within reach at all times. LOL I do enjoy having both. It is fun to do the girly things w/ my daughter, as well as having a son who is such a love-bug!Sherrill0

This is the weirdest thing. My 3 yr old started having accidents the night I came home from surgery. My husband had taken him to the doctor for something else and mentioned it. She said that this is normal and he may be sensing that I'm stressed and not feeling. She assured us as I recovered he would stop doing this. Sure enough it happened for about a week every night and then that was it.

Ok so I'm having one of those days. What I would give to have a head full of hair and be able to taste a meal. Can't wait for that day to come!

Fightinlikeagirl - I promise that day will come ! Oh and it will taste so sweet. Hang in there girl!

Hi sisters, I have been reading your posts for quite a while and know some of you have talked about having kids after BC. Just wondering for other sisters who do not plan to have more kids, er+/pr+, have you thought about or did onc suggest ooph? Have seen Gyn to discuss about ooph but will hear the opinior from onc who I will see for the first time next Monday!!
Would love to hear your thought! I am 38, will turn 39 inJan, triple positive so need to be extra cautious . Best for all of you!!

Mandy~ Hang in there. Your hair will come back and I promise so will your taste buds.
0 -
Ditto Jaimieh, Mandy. The hair will take a while, but the taste buds come back pretty quickly.
Today I will have my 5th rads tx. Is it normal to already have irriated skin and feel tired? I had always heard that it takes a couple of weeks before you start feeling anything. I'm not so tired I can't function, but it's been harder to get up in the morning, and when I sit down, I get really sleepy. The skin under my breast is really itchy and little red. The nurses yesterday thought I was wearing a bra that was irritating my skin. Nope, no bra since before surgery! Luckily I see my rads onc today.
Have a great Friday everyone!

deenah, my skin is really resilient so I hung in there for quite a while before I had itching/redness but my friend had symptoms right away. The breast is usually sheltered away in it's comfy little home under out clothes so it's probably a little shocked at getting zapped! I used emu oil in addition to Aquaphor and had good results. At the end the rads onc had to give me some sample packs of an Rx for burns for my incision site and under my breast and it helped right away. Hopefully your doc can offer some insight.
Mandy...I understand those days! I loooove food and it killed me to be eating cardboard. Someone told me to try sucking on zinc tablets before you eat. I never got to try it because I was already done with chemo by the time I heard this, but it's supposed to revive your taste buds. Worth a shot! They do come back quickly. I'll never forget when my DH took me out and I could taste... I must've looked like a crazy woman! I was moaning and rolling my eyes... I told him it was way better than sex being able to taste food again!!! LOL!
Re: ooph (sorry, it's on the last page- can't remember names!) I'm in exactly the same position, especially since I tested as only an intermediate metabolizer of Tamox. I talked to my onc and went for a second opinion and I've decided that I'm just not ready for another surgery and permanent menopause. It was a tough decision, I really agonized over it but it's just not the right thing for me right now. Even tho my DH is an OB/GYN and was very helpful giving me all the info on the surgery we decided not to do it. I'm going to take the Tamox and finish Herceptin and try to move along!
Everyone have a great weekend!

Thanks girls for the encouragement. Its just odd to me that I use to dream of fancy vacations, big shopping sprees and to win the lotto. But now what I would give to just be me again and enjoy the small things.
0 -
Mandy~ you will be back to dreaming about shopping spree's and lotto wins in no time. When I was going thru TCH all I could think of was pizza from a place in Florida...I lost 30lbs but I found it very quickly.

I'm hitting the treatmill this moring and sticking to a routine... I'm going to lose those ten pounds again! How do they keep finding me?! Aging, chemo/comfort eating? Argh!!!
