rachel22 congrats! Such a great feeling to wrap up chemo! Radiation is way easier. The biggest issue with rads is the schedule drain. Just remember to cream up your skin with whatever your RO or nurse tells you to use. And your motto should be - once I think i've creamed enough, cream a little more. Good luck!

Hi ladies, I'd love to join this group since I have yet to chat with any women going through this that are around my age. I am 37, married, no kids and just had my 2nd treatment of chemo last week. It's been a rough few months to say the least. I'm sure you can all relate! I'd love to hear your stories, input, & advice. It's always comforting to hear from people you can relate to. Hope everyone is well and Happy Halloween!

Pretty new here. I was diagnosed couple of weeks before my 37th birthday, 13 year old son and an almost 2 year old daughter. BRCA1 so I had a double mastectomy, 18 tumors total, only 6 of them were large, largest 2.1cm. They will not do the Oncotype test on me because they would have to test all of the tumors and it would cost too much. So straight to chemo.

I have not had time to read through everything yet, but I saw that there was someone else with a bunch of tumors, 12 if I'm right.

The ones who have babies, were you able to change diapers during chemo? Or is that too germy?

Hi ladies, thanks for the warm welcome!

Rachel-Congrats on your last chemo! How did you get through it? I'm staring down four more months and it's hard to push through already. This last round beat me up and I am really dreading round 3 (AC) on Wed.

Soriya-Congrats as well, I'm sure you'll start feeling improved in no time.

Jianchi-How are you feeling after your SNB? I had mine before they wheeled me into the OR for my BMX & if I had more time to think about it, I would have been traumatized! Which chemo cocktail will you be doing?

    Dewey- How are you feeling?

Anyone do weekly Taxol for 12 weeks? I know it's been a recent discovery that weekly Taxol instead of dose dense produces less side effects especially neuropathy, but thinking of going every week for 12 weeks sounds daunting.

I feel like Alex Trebek with all my questions! :)

inks - so sorry about your diagnosis but glad you found us. We will be here for any questions you might have. I have a 2 year old in diapers and always changed them during chemo.

Suckitbc - thanks for the congrats. I know exactly how you're feeling cause I was right where you're at but I promise you that you will get through it and you'll do great. Just think that after this treatment you only have one more rough one. And then taxol which is sooooooo much easier than AC. I also did 12 weekly taxols and I promise you it's over before you know it. It goes fast. And like you said doing it weekly I had no issues with neuropathy so felt it was worth it. So my advice is just do small things to celebrate as you get closer to being done. Celebrate your last AC. Celebrate getting through the first couple of taxols. And then before you know it you'll be celebrating your last treatment too!!! Xoxo

SuckitBC - I am generally feeling OK now but the day I had SNB and Port placement, after I woke up, I just felt so tired and had a big headache. The tube (?) that links with the port makes me kind of uncomfortable. I also feel had when I pick up something, my throat and check just feel so heavy and almost made me out of breath. I am going to raise these issue with my MO tomorrow. My MO mentioned ably dose dense AC+T before. I will know better tomorrow and I will ask him specifically why he thinks this is the best for me. Hope everything is going well with you on your treatment.

So I am 29, and I am wondering about this Tamoxifen with regards to periods. My doctor says my periods will probably come back, but I don't want them to come back, I don't want to have children (I really want to adopt. You know those sad people who go to pounds and stare at the dogs? I do that at adoptuskids.com, it's really pathetic, I know). Do any of you ladies know of other women who have just had their tubes tied? It's seems so much less dramatic. I just did my first round of chemo on Friday and my worst symptom was terrible cramping like I get when I had my period before I was on Jolessa. And now that I can no longer be on Jolessa, I am super NOT looking forward to having to go all natural for next two decades till I hit menopause. UGH!

Rachel-thanks for the advice, I am definitely celebrating when I'm done with AC. When you say Taxol was so much easier than AC, what SE's did you experience from it?

    Shari-congrats!

inks-I am also BRCA and my younger sister just found out she is too so she's deciding when to get her prophylactic mastectomy. I'm not even thinking about removing my ovaries yet. BRCA is the gift that keeps on giving.

Jianchi-I had my port placed 5 weeks ago and it still bothers me every now and then, but it does make the infusion very easy. Make sure your MO prescribes Lidocaine or a different numbing cream to use before it is accessed.

I have my 3rd round tomorrow and to say I am dreading it is an understatement. I'm trying to stay positive though and crossing my fingers it's better than the last two rounds. All the best to everyone...

    Congrats Soriya and Rachel!

Jianchib- I felt like I had been hit in the chest for days after my port was placed. Couldn't reach plates in the cabinet or do laundry - but it should get better after that first week.

Inks- mine weren't in diapers but that made me smile - sadly I think as long as your little one is healthy then it's fine to change diapers. BUT if they're sick, or if you start having nail problems and can get help, then DO! I had my husband on flossing duty for our boys and helping the youngest wipe once my nails started lifting. Also - I was the one with all the tumors. I had chemo before surgery, so getting an onco type wasn't even an option. With her2+ tumors, chemo isn't optional. (Or at least that's what they told me).

Suckit - you're over halfway there with the AC. Prayers for a smooth round.

    I finished radiation yesterday! :)

    hello everyone,

I'm 8 days post mastectomy of the right breast for ILC. I met with the surgeon today to have the drain out YAY! And I got part of the path report. I have 2 nodes involved the surgeon said its good cause its very small amount that they found. But I'm still scared, I know I will have to have chemo. Anyone here with positive nodes that could give me some feedback and were is the best place to have the port put in, the arm chest is a pick line better?i don't post often but you all keep me going,

    Thanks for that!

mckatherine - congrats on finishing rads!! That's awesome!

SuckitBC - honestly the only SEs I had from taxol were some mild discoloration in my nails and fatigue. The fatigue was pretty bad by the end but otherwise I had no issues. The day of my treatment I would sleep a lot simply because they give you a big dose of benedryl with it and that would knock me out. And the steroids would keep me up that night. But by the next day I felt totally fine and was sleeping normal again. I hope you have an easy time with it as well :)

Brioche - I had one positive node and my doc told me that was still a very good prognosis. I had my port placed in the chest near the shoulder, beneath the collar bone on the opposite side of where my cancer was. The port makes treatments super easy but ask your doc for numbing cream for it. I used it and never felt anything when they accsessed it.

Hi Brioche - sorry you have to join this forum, but welcome. You've already gotten through a big part of the battle - so congrats! I had 6 positive nodes so chemo and radiation were required. Nodal involvement certainly makes it scarier, but remember- they took out all the bad stuff during surgery. Everything that comes now is extra insurance against recurrence. I actually want through chemo and a full year of herceptin without a port, and only one arm that we were allowed to use since all my nodes came out on my affected side. There were times where it was a bit of a struggle and some nurses did better with me than others - but once I got my hydration plan down pat - it worked out. I really didn't want a port. I don't have a good reason. I just didn't. So my MO said we could try without and if we had problems, we'd put one in. But I made it through. So if you are feeling unsure about one - it can't hurt to ask your docs. That said - i know plenty of ladies loved their ports and wouldn't have had it any other way. Good luck!

Thank you ladies on the heads up about diaper duty. I guess I'll be on the kitty litterbox duty as well. My husband gets puky changing nr.2 diapers, but I bought face masks. I originally bought the face masks to avoid spread of germs, there's always someone sick when you have kids. It is weird going from pro germs to using antibacterial stuff

McKatherine - I don't feel alone anymore with my 18 tumors. And overall I have so much in common with everybody here - premenopausal and more aggressive tumors....

Only 4 more days to chemo! I swear I am like a kid before Christmas. I even thought about doing a count down calendar for my first treatment.

inks - Don't be too quick to deal with the kitty litter box. Cat poop can carry toxoplasmosis, So check with your MO first if that is ok to do. Your hubby might need to man-up... :) But the kids diapers are safe territory - just wash, wash, wash and wash some more! I'm pretty sure I had to collect stool samples for my then 2-year old while I was on chemo...Good luck!!!

I'm 36 years old with a very supportive husband. We have no kids. I will be starting Chemotherapy Nov 20th. I will be needing radiation and hormonal therapy for 10 years. I will get my ovaries removed so that will change me from tamoxifen. I'm not looking forward to going into chemo menopause. When I go to my doctors appointments I get the stares from every one else, because I'm the youngest in the room. I really hate the stares.

welcome fairydogmother, do u kno what kind of chemo cocktails you re having?  I totally understand about the stares.  Everytime Im there, I always look around to see any young women like me, so sad most of times NO.  I saw 2 in the past 4 months.  Both of them younger than me 35 n below.  I am 39, but honestly I dont look 39, I look younger than my age.  so when they look at me,i just gave them a smile.  :)
