126.5 lbs—a half pound loss and I think/ hope it’s real, not just water weight. I’ve maintained my increased running mileage, worked out when I didn’t really want to, passed on the wine several times and cut back on sugar. It feels real. Guess I’ll know this time next week.

Illimae, I am sorry you are facing this stress. In my own ordeal, I have found meditation to be helpful. Hoping for some better news for you after further testing.

I was up during the week, but now down .2lb. I actually was good on Easter but Monday was my downfall!

Got an update today from the neuro onc. While the brain MRI showed 4 new small mets, at least the spinal MRI and Lumbar puncture ruled out lepto mets, so big yay there.

I’m so glad to be pointed towards this thread, thanks Heidihill. I’m from Oz so speak in kg and g. I’m obese, my weight today was 77.4kg and I’m only 157cm tall, BMI 31.4! I’m Stage 4 and very aware of the poor health outcomes associated with abdominal obesity. I’m post-menopausal and my stomach is huge, quite uncomfortable, let alone looking dreadful. I’m terrified of type 2 diabetes, my brother is obese and on medication for this and my Dad also has this, though not too advanced so not medicated, and he is no longer overweight.

I’ve been a low carber for just on 2 years now, ever since I was confirmed post-menopausal due to chemo (I’m 53) and discovered I could no longer lose weight the old way of calorie restriction. I was 67kg when diagnosed but ate self-destructively when told I was Stage 4 three months later. I’ve always been a stress and depression eater, my weight has yo-yoed all my life. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting/restricted feeding for probably a year now, which I find quite easy. Despite my weight I participate in gym classes about 4 or 5 times per week, so don’t eat until after

I don’t eat until after my post-workout shower, around 11-11.30am. On the days I don’t do gym I may fast completely or not eat until sometime in the afternoon. I went off my low carb, intermittent fasting routine in October when my Dad was sick and I was flying backwards and forwards to Sydney. I had also just been told I had a local recurrence and mastectomy with radiotherapy was recommended, which really upset me. So I decided I was going to be “kind” to myself and ate every carb I had avoided for the previous 18months! Consequently i gained 12kg! I decided to wait until the new year before resuming my eating lifestyle (again to be “kind” to myself) - yeah right! I managed to get 6 kg off fairly quickly but I’ve been struggling to get the remaining 6kg of this

(sorry, whenever I press backspace all the text gets eaten up, not just the ones I’ve pressed!)

Struggling to get remaining 6kg off, let alone getting a BMI below 28. Anyway I’m here now so I will see what others do.

One thing that is rarely mentioned but I know affects weight is poor sleep due to high cortisol levels. I’m a shocking sleeper due to pain and hot flashes and I feel mentally tired all the time. I know all about sleep hygiene etc, and follow most of the advice. Does anyone else think their insomnia affects their weight?

Anyway thanks for listening and hopefully we can help and encourage each other with weight loss

Bella, I visited Hobart and stayed in a charming hotel there and enjoyed a delicious meal at one of your restaurants. What a delightful place. I'll have to translate your weight info with google. Glad you joined us and good luck with your weight challenges and health challenges.

Welcome Bella. I do think insomnia affects weight. If I can't sleep, I feel tired and everything is an effort. I eat to give myself energy - along with a lot of coffee. I had a co-worker who's wife was from Tasmania. He loved it there and said it was really beautiful.

Welcome Bella and Ruthbru, it’s lovely to see you. I have been away on holiday this week, in Crete which was lovely, but unfortunately I also took a holiday from careful eating and when I got on the scales this morning I was up 5lbs! It had taken me about 5 months to lose that 5lbs and it seems to have gone back on in a week. So, starting right now, I’m going to be very strict with myself. I have no big social plans for the next few weeks, thank goodness! Keep posting ladies it feels like a great support group, we’re all in this together!

Scotbird, I empathize with your shock over how slowly weight drops and how quickly it returns. I can zoom up 4 lbs with one carb happy day!

Thanks for the welcome. Tassie is a beautiful place but we r now in Autumn, days r cooling but lovely if u get in the Sun.

My weight is unchanged, 77.4kg 🙁. I’m at treatment, on my 41st of Herceptin and Perjeta. Fasting until lunch, when I will be going to the local hospitality school with a group. The students get to practice their cooking and waiting skills and the patrons get cheaper food in a silver service environment - win-win! May also let them practice their cocktail making skills on me 😀. May or may not eat low carb, will have to see what is on offer.Rads number 9 (with Bolus) of 25 after. Might do gym class tonite as I missed this morning, will see how things go. Have a great day!

Down 1.4 lbs to 154.6. Very happy with weight watchers and my progress so far. And I cheated like crazy this past week, but also got some nice long walks in to balance out the bad choices. I'm learning to live without sugary drinks, and limit my nighttime snacking. And tracking, tracking, tracking what goes into my mouth, trying to learn some good eating habits. I have not been below 150 in years, so I think it will start getting a little tougher now to lose weight, my goal is 140 which would finally put me in the healthy BMI range.

Weighed three pounds less than last week. I'm hoping to keep that trend going, as last week I was back to the same weight I was when this thread was reactivated. Today I have a half day from work to get my mammo/ US. Less anxiety than last year's exam. Hoping to get a little extra exercise with the extra time.

Hi Bella! Almost halfway through rads, yes!

I’m back up .5 lb to 127. I’ve increased running mileage and frequency and feel stronger, but that is not translating to lbs lost. Honestly, I’m not eating more. I feel like I’m eating less. I’m always hungry. I don’t eat until noon and finish by 7pm. My numbers, glucose, thyroid, etc, are all good. I get enough sleep. Sign me, Discouraged

    Stayed the same at 127.

Bareclaws, Try eating something with protein earlier in the day. Maybe a piece of string cheese or an egg. If I don't get protein early, I'm hungry all day. And remember that muscle weighs more than fat. If you've increased the exercise you're probably building more muscle.

Wren, the protein suggestion is a good one and I really do try to do that. It does help curb my hunger for awhile. I find it difficult to get anywhere near recommended amount of protein, eating veg/vegan most of the time. Sometimes I just give in and eat a piece of fish.

Well, I’m up another 2.1, not what I wanted of course but not terribly surprising since I just got back from a weekend road trip. I brought some healthy snacks but fell victim to restaurant/truck stop temptations. We having “thanksgiving” dinner later this week before my husband goes out on the road, so I don’t expect to be down next week either. However, once I’m back to cooking for myself, I make much better choices.

I'm up a little too. I have lots of excuses......but that's what they are, excuses.

I didn't weigh this morning, but my weigh in on Monday morning at WW was a real pat myself on the back moment. I was down 4.4 lbs for the week to 170.4. I may just report the WW weigh in number every week.

The new WW program has a long list of "free" foods that formerly had points. I was skeptical when I read the list but I'm "going with the program," and it worked the first week. I try to eat as many free foods as possible for breakfast and lunch.

I'm glad we started up this thread again!

    Good for you. Nice surprise!

Falconer, Carole, TwoHobbies well done! Great news. I’ve decided to stick with a Sunday weigh in because Saturdays and Sundays are the days when I usually eat too much, due to family meals, treats, socialising etc. So I’m hoping that the thought of a weigh in on Sunday will make me think twice on Saturdays when I’m reaching for another slice of something calorific.

I was down 4.25lbs today which sounds good except hat I was up 5lbs the previous week, having over indulged when I was on my Easter holiday. This week I have only one evening out planned and so I’m going to absolutely hit the gym and be super strict with my diet. Hoping for a new low.

Bareclaws keep going, you will definitely see a difference eventually if you keep burning off more than you consume, but it takes time, and it really gets harder the lower you go. The important thing is to keep up with good habits, and just stay on track, or get back on track when we stray.

I love this thread it has helped me so much.

Hi ladies, weight slightly down (0.3) from last Wed, 71.1kg. Continuing on low carb, intermittent fasting but thinking I should go back to ketogenic? Only 20g of carbs per day was so hard, I only lasted a few months. Wanted to eat Greek yoghurt (200g) for my gut with fresh berries daily as my only fruit, the carbs from this alone can be 18 if I have raspberries! Then adding chia seeds to get additional fibre and feed microbiome makes it 20 grams! I know I can take supplements instead but I keep reading nutrients from food are preferable. Does anyone here do ketogenic

  • heidihill
    heidihill Member Posts: 1,858

Bella, if it will help jumpstart things, take the probiotic/fiber supplements. In general I take supplements on an as-needed basis. Just two weeks might help bring your gut to a healthier state. Exercise also improves your gut microbiome. I don't do ketogenic, at least not intentionally, probably not unintentionally either. But I do a lot of extra virgin olive oil, as well as cheese.  Maybe ask your doctor if he thinks it's a good idea? I see mine in a month so I will ask him as well.

I had a heavy eating weekend so I'll be surprised if I'll be lower than last week by Wednesday.

Up 1 pound this morning. Boo! Been exercising every day. However, this bad weather forced me to bake bread on Sunday. And eat it. La di da.

Up another 2.4, clearly I’m doing something wrong, maybe it was the thanksgiving dinner we had this week or issues with tamoxifen or thyroid meds, who knows. I’ll keep trying and change things up a bit.

  • pat01
    pat01 Member Posts: 913

Illimae, you are not doing anything wrong! Be kind to yourself. Changing things up is a good way to go.

Bella, I take a probiotic every day. Been dealing with some digestive issues for several months (all tests negative, just might be the new me), and lately I started having a bowl of oatmeal in the morning with some frozen blueberries thrown in for sweetness. I used to hate oatmeal (we called it mush when the kids were little), but figured trying some fiber in the morning would might help my GI issues, and I have to say now it is a very satisfying breakfast for me. Sorry, I don't know what ketogenic is. This time around I'm doing weight watchers for weight loss. Weekly meetings are keeping me accountable, and the new point system is making things easier to track. Down .4 to 154.2 Still a loss, but not much of one - but I'll take it. I fear I'm hitting my plateau weight, where I will just hover around and not make any breakthroughs. Need to add more movement to every day.
