    Hi

I'm up 4 ounces.  Just up a few and down a few.  Hate this!

Went back to nutritiondata.com to track nutrients.  I used to do this before BC and it went to the wayside, was trying to track fiber and calories back then.  I forgot the best way to use the tools and it only took me 1-1/2 hours to list the items and get the record for what I ate today.  Hah.  I feel like Ducky, you have to be kidding, but because I throw smidgeon of this and that on the plate, I had 26 items.  It is interesting to see the nutrition breakdown in that much detail.  I did put the pedometer on today, only at 1/4 of goal, so that's the biggest problem.

Ducky, I can tell you didn't give up, just gave up on WW.  I would agree you got charged too much per pound.  But you know 10 pounds ain't bad.  Hmmn, maybe they should charge clients per pound of weight loss and that would be more fair, maybe a couple bucks per pound.  If you lose, they get paid.  Just my thought...like the lawyers who say you pay nothing unless you win.

Congratulations all of you ladies who were able to post a loss this week.  You accomplished what you wanted to do. I hope to join your ranks next week.

Kimberly, I discovered Nutrition Data and I use it to look up basic nutrition data for various foods. But I find it completely overwhelming to try to find the actual, specific meals that I eat. Like oatmeal. There must be 40 different options in the system, but not one of them is wholegrain oats cooked with milk, for example, and I add walnuts and berries as well. i can imagine that inputting a day's worth of food could take hours.

Just an update - finally found shorts that fit at Kohls for my trip to costa Rica.  Couldn't decide on color so I bought all 3!  Figured I will proably return at least 1, but when I lay out my clothes for my trip I'll see what colors work best.  At least I will be comfortable and not squeezed into sausage shorts.  I've been discouraged with no weight loss, but I have exercised every day since Jan 1, and really feel better because of it.  When I get back from Costa Rica I will concetrate on trying to eat better, hoping to find my toned muscles underneath my jelly rolls of fat LOL

Down .4 for the week, but I caught that bug that's been going around and I've been sick all week - no exercise, but haven't felt like eating much either, so I guess it's a wash.   Frown

Blerg... same same same same same.

But at least not up again. Right.

Well, anyway, it was a really rough week, and somewhere in there I just needed an In-N-Out burger and some fries. So be it. It's a new day, a new week.  We march on.

Pat, I love that you bought all 3! A girl after my own heart!

Wow, Costa Rica sounds awesome. I wish I could get away somewhere lush and dreamy. Right now am counting my pennies a little close. Have a wonderous, magical trip and take a tree ride for me, please. I want to hear ALL about it.

Nats, I've just had a week+ where I just was so exhausted that I cancelled everything and went back to bed.  But, like when I was little and was home sick, I took all sorts of things to bed with me: books, journal, my computer equipped with lectures I wanted to listen to (on "making meaning" in life purposely) and guided visualizations and a tray for a hot drink and my heating pad and kind of had a creative bed vacation. Hope you feel better.

I think with weight loss, there is this big loss that can happen in the beginning if you've got a ways to go, but I am discovering that 1/2 to 1 pound a week on average (or 2 pounds a month) is a steady, permanent loss, and then the body adjusts and adapts slowly and gets grounded in the small adjustment and over six months, a lifestyle is grounded and results too!

Yep I agree trubff!  All I really want is a pound per week but I know that some weeks there may  be nothing and other weeks a little more (this week, the first it was somewehre around 3lbs but recall that all the water from chemo we retain).  I hope that when I finish chemo in April I will be back where I started-- around 122-125.  BUT, most important is that I feel so much better eating healthy and i think the cacner cells are pissed I am not feeding them much sugar!!!!

Wasn't able to weigh yesterday, but was 143 today at the Rad Onc. So that would be 1lb. I need to add more exercise, but first we had snow and then heavy rain. Just can't get myself to walk in that weather. Perhaps I should foster a dog. Our dogs were always insistent on walks.

True - you're much more organized than I when you're sick.  It was all I could do to lie on the sofa and zone out on "Murder She Wrote" and "Bonanza" repeats!  Tongue out

And the daytime ads are quite an education - I now know how to have Depends delivered to my door in a plain brown box, how to get one of those walk-in bathtub things installed, how to get oxygen delivered to my door, how to get a free diabetic meter, and how to get one of those scooter chairs at little or no cost to me.  Gee, d'ya think the demographics of the cable channel I was watching skews a tad on the senior side??  It must skew female too, cuz there were no Viagra ads.   Wink

Nats, you made me laugh out loud!!! Thanks!!!! :-D

Last night my husband had to drag me to the tele to watch, but then,

I saw Angela Landsbury in Sweeny Todd and thought I would die, it was so good!!!

    Knock three times!!!

Balmy weather for Wisconsin, so I walked outside today, had no excuse not to, feeling stronger post chemo, need to make it a habit.  Maybe it's the socioeconomic status of my neighborhood, a lot of elderly around here it seems would rather walk than join gym, maybe don't want to pay for gym when they have sidewalks, lots of dogs getting walked, and sometimes just plain old walkers. I like one old couple in particular who are religious about it, no dog.  They are thin and old.  The husband is routinely walking 10 feet in front of his wife.  I guess he is the pace car, so to speak. They walk all year round, even in the worst weather.  When I used to walk more I saw them out there after ice storms, when a normal aged person keeps their hips safe inside their house.  I've seen them wrapped like Eskimos when it gets REALLY cold.  I'm going to think about them again tomorrow and get out and walk again tomorrow.

Kimberely-  We have a couple like that in my area.  Only the wife is the "pace car".  They are really sweet andtalk to everyone.  Whenever I am out (driving) in the late afternoon I spot them.

What a great image Kim and what an inspiration too.  Sometimes, I think that what we face is simply what the aged feel only we are 30-40 years younger (or maybe a little less?)  If I thinkof it that way, lots of compassion for others swells up inside of me.  I recall once as a kid driving behind someone who was driving sooo slow and I got irritated. I turned the corner and it was a little old lady-- that was someones grandmother I thought.  I loved my grandmother-- and I cried so hard. I learned a bit of compassion that day.  Well, this cancer teaches that as well, I think.  Q

Ground pork shoulder butt in a cast iron grinder like old prairie woman, first attempt at no-salt pork sausage, I had visions of making no-salt sausage stuffing, because I love sausage stuffing with pork chops, chicken, turkey.  I looked at the bag of brownberry stuffing in my food pantry, only 4500 mg of sodium in the bag (3 days worth of sodium for me and not even 16 ounces).  Then I thought, what if I cut that with rice, like 50% rice and 50% Brownberry.  So I made some rice mix I have, mix of naturals from the chinese store, which smelled great like popcorn, only needed some salt to taste ok.  Fried up a test patty of my sausage.  Seemed off. Put a little bit of salt on a bite.  Yeah it would be fine if it had salt. I am slowly realizing that I cannot recreate my loved salty recipes without the salt.  I need to be more content with a peeled and beautifully sliced orange fanned out on the plate and fresh veggies and lean meat with garlic and pepper.  I will use up my lean italian sausage without salt and my lean pork sausage without salt, but I am giving up on chasing the dream of the "old" dishes.  Much more sensible and simpler and tastes better to appreciate what comes easy without the salt.  After all that work for the sausage, I would have been happier with a lean pork chop with some pepper and garlic seasoning.  Had to try though.

Kim-  I think it's great the way you are problem solving as you adjust to a low salt diet.  You are really amazing !

Did you ever weigh yourself in the morning, then take a dump and think....that had to be worth another pound and hop on the scale again, hoping?  I did that this morning and it went up a pound. I though, there must be some mistake.  I will wait an hour and try again.  Then it was up 2 pounds.  Ay carumba.  I understand how Ducky felt when she wanted to strip naked to see the scale numbers move.  I might just have to do that tomorrow.  It's kind of like strip poker with the scale.  When I first started I left my hoodie sweatshirt on.  Not anymore.  Absolutely not.  Oh, the mind games I play with myself.  Maybe if I toss and turn in my sleep a lot or have a few hot flashes, I'll be able to post a loss.

Good luck ladies.  I hope some of you had a good week.

Kim - I know what you mean - sometimes the scale just doesn't make sense.  And you can fudge those things - placing my feet towards the outside edges sometimes skims a few tenths of a pound off - I only do that when I really really need it.  Tongue out

Woohoo!!!  Down 1.8 this week - FINALLY!!!  (And I didn't even put my feet at the edges.)  We're leaving Saturday for a week in St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and I wanted to be below 150 for that. I was at 149 just before the holidays, but gave 3 of those pounds back with all the good holiday food.  I've now lost those holiday pounds and am back to 149.  That makes 18 of my 22 chemo pounds gone - almost back to my pre-dx weight.  (From there I'd like to lose 10 more pounds to my 135 goal.  But I'll worry about that 4 pounds from now.)

I think that walking elderly couple gets around - they've been spotted in Long Island, West Allis and now Rockville.  Yes, we have one of those couples in my neighborhood - it's so cute - they both wear headphones, and the wife is the pace car, and they're out there no matter what the weather.  And they keep up a pretty good pace too!

Well, my scale isn't budging - still 170.5 since New years day.  But I have exercised every day, and I do feel good.  Leaving for a trip to Costa Rica next week, so I'll miss the next two weigh ins.  When I get back, I'll continue with my daily exercise, and start making a concerted effort to eat better.

It sounds like some fun trips are coming up! In a couple weeks DH and I head to Arizona for a few days of some fun in the sun. Only down .4 of a pound....I was down farther but last night I made the mistake of making an old German dish that my MIL used to make and DH was craving...a German dish with ham browned in butter, potatoes and dumplings....I had resolved to only eat one serving.....now you can guess what happened next......gobble, gobble, gooble......Frown

Today I weighed 143. My scale is not the most accurate, however. I was amazed that it wasn't higher. Between waiting for the path report for my re-excision last Friday and mourning the impending loss of my kitty, I was hitting the chocolate. I woke up this am and wanted to take a vicodin and go back to bed, but I got up and will do my volunteer job this afternoon.

I think all our scales are in an uprising against us.  I'm up almost a pound from last week.  Re-introduced a little bread and poultry and need to leave off the bread.  I really didn't miss it too much during my fast so I can do without most of the time.  Same with sweets; don't miss them so will leave them out except on rare occasions.  Let's see how long I can keep that up!
