I received something in e-mail about contest for weight loss, 2 months, team, and I sent back my explanation that I was against yo-yo-ing, and wanted to see the results at 1 year and 2 years.  The 2-month thing might spring me into competitive mode, but I felt there would be a backlash instead of a permanent change of habits.  I sent that message back up the chain.  For the life of me, I don't know why they are promoting the quick fix, competitive style, because I don't believe that will last,  Maybe I am noit competitive enough that I can't take on a 2-month challenge?

You all posted your weight.  I will too. My weight was 229 to 232,depending. I have 80 to lose.  How many hits would I have on video if I could publish me, nekked, no boobs, big belly,  pushing the scale on the floor in the bathroom, snoking a cigarette.  What a joke. I just came in even.

I brought in even.  Damn. I felt less.

I think I let butter in on vegeables and will cut iit off right by the neck next week.

You vacation seekers, I bless the warm sun that heals you, especiallly you skinnies AH MF that were able to lose weight in anticipation.  Maybe we are jealous but we love you just the same.

Ladies, I've been hurting (my bones) this week, so I'm not weighing in. (I never get on the scale when I'm feeling down or sick.) But, for what it's worth, I am in my good zone, weight wise now and I wasn't always.

But I want to say that I can promise you that 50 -80 -whatever pounds WILL come off if you just love yourself, go slowly, take two days off every week casue it's not a marathon, it's a lifestyle, and remember that with or without your original body equipment, and just the way you are, RIGHT NOW TODAY: YOU are some of the most BEAUTIFUL, KIND, GENEROUS, STRONG, COURAGEOUS, LOVING, AND GIVING PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET! HERE IN THIS COMMUNITY!  YOU ROCK!!!!

Well Ladies.........I did go to WW yesterday.........talk about being a "couple chairs short in the dining room".................when I started WW they gave me a card for our "weigh In's"..........well once the NY came they decided to change a few things, so they gave us all new stuff...........even the "weigh in" card..................well the last time I was there, I didn't realize I had taken the original card, and my weight for that week was recorded...............................well yesteraty.....(don't ask me how), I picked up the wrong card..............................it was the newer one.......................well the weights were quite different between the 2 of them which of course I didn't even notice, not only the weights, but that I had the wrong card..................I get on the scale, and the woman said "wow you haven't been here since "whatever date she said"...................I thought............yes I have, but I wasn't about to argue..........cause I didn't want to be there in the first place........................then she said "your up almost 2 lbs...........................I thought.................grrreeeaaattttt.......................sat down, listen to all the what we should and should not do while watching the "super bowl" with eating, and finally it was over.

Went home, looked in the drawer, found the "last card I used at weigh in............................and relaized I took the wrong card...................when I checked one against the other.............I had only gained 4 ounces, not 2 lbs.................

Well "whatever'.....................soon I will get this all straight.................I hate everything about WW, and losing weight in general.................it has been a lifetime struggle, and I'm just about at the end of my rope.........................Feel like shit today anyway ...........oh well, maybe I'll just drink my dinner..............gonna go look for the Vodka.............

Ducky, funny you brought up super bowl.  Going to visit a friend a distance away to watch. I know he has no clue what to do for my restricted diet.  I won't be bringing what I brought last year, the beautiful taco plate (salt-laden), or maybe I should, for them, because it is damn tasty and pretty, and why should they suffer and go without. Hah, I just threw out my salsa today because it is full of salt.  Day by day I throw stuff out of my refrigerator and storage shelves. Weird living off the fresh produce aisles and the organic meat section because everything else is pumped with sodium. So what can I bring to the super bowl party?  Maybe I will bring a fruit plate and a green salad so that I can have plate fullness with that and maybe just a smidge of the wrong stuff.

I gained a lb this week . . . oops! Had a ribfest for my DH bday on Sat and leftovers on Sun, I have to say it was worth it. We had a few people over and decided to have a rib contest. Everyone brought ribs (there were smoked beef ribs, Korean short ribs and brined spare ribs and of course beans and potato salad, etc). Our dog was the judge haha! We put the plates down and thankfully she finished the bday boy's plate first :-) Although she did proceed to finish them all!

I bought the chia seeds this week. I didn't have time to make anything with them, but did sprinkle them on a salad. Couldn't tell much from that. They're interesting little things . . . tiny, tiny. Reminds me of course ground pepper or poppy seeds. This week I hope to find a recipe to make muffins or oatmeal or something where they stand out.

I plan to get out for a hike today too! Looking forward to that . . . I've been a slug since about Oct!

Here's to a good week to all. I hope the SuperBowl doesn't do too much damage!

What are the chia seeds supposed to do?  I missed that.

Hey lulubee: The chia seeds came up two weeks ago when ruthbru suggested we all choose something new or different to do that week to get motivated. My DH and I decided to start eating low carb a couple days a week and although it sounds great to be able to eat meat, nuts and cheese it got kind of old. I was doing research for recipes and the chia seeds kept popping up so I thought I'd try them. Here's a link to the hype: http://thechiaseed.com/

Quiche, you sold me on the chia (and maybe my hair will grow like the ad too, never know). It's on next week's list. My thought has been not enough variety in the diet for me, and I am not vegetarian savvy, health food savvy. My food budget this week went for making of Baba Ghanoush. I think the ingredients set me back close to 40$ including the spices. It makes 2-1/2 cups. I remember looking in the meat aisle (not vegetarian) and wanting to try a rib eye steak, never had one. I almost fainted at the price per pound. I thought about it later and realized I could have had 2 rib eyes, depending on the cut, maybe 3, for the same price as the Baba Ghanoush ingredients. Don't even ask me how long it took to find Tahini in my grocery store or how much that cost.

I like trying new things. I haven't tried quinoa or chia. I thought I was bold last week when I cooked some barley in with my rice mix, never had barley in my life that I know of if you don't count whiskey.

Found an unsalted nut mix this week and avocados were on sale. Gave up butter this week. Nada. If you would have told me I could ever give up cheese and butter both...but there is fun in exploring new foods. Thanks for the tip on the chia.

You guys made me curious about the chia seeds - I found this website very interesting LINK

From the website: Chia Seeds are about 3 times richer in omega-3s than flaxseed: 4915mg of Omega 3 in 1 oz (28g) 1620mg of Omega 6 in 1 oz (28g) Chia has a higher protein content than most other seeds or grains, and it is a complete protein, meaning it contains all of the essential amino acids. Chia seeds are an excellent source of the trace mineral, boron, which is a catalyst for the absorption and use of calcium in the body. Chia seeds are also a good source of phosphorus, manganese and zinc. The seeds of the Chia plant are a great source of fiber, at about 11 grams per ounce. In addition to promoting good digestion and elimination.

Long ago, the Aztecs, and other pre-Columbian cultures of Mexico relied on Chia Seeds along with other native foods, for energy and nutrition. Chia seeds are what we call "hydrophilic" which means "water loving". They can absorb 10-12 times their weight in water. When water-logged, they form a gelatinous substance that is soothing to the digestive tract as well as beneficial in keeping the body hydrated and maintaining electrolyte balance.  Word of caution: Make sure that you drink a 12 oz glass of water for every tablespoon of Chia seeds that you consume. If you don't the seeds will absorb the liquid from your body and end up dehydrating you.

Baba Ghanoush is not good when I am the chef, that I can tell you.  Next week, Chia seeds.  I don't think I can mess that up.

Kimberly, I make it the Greek way, which is simple and does not involve tahini. You just roast the eggplant in the oven, skin and all, untill they are really soft and charred. This normally takes at least half an hour in a 400-degree oven.

Let them cool a bit, then slit the skin open and scrape all the insides into a bowl. Add some squeezed garlic, salt and pepper, lots of parsley, a spoon of either red wine vinegar or lemon juice. Then with an immersion blender, blend the mixture as you add a good dose of olive oil. That is all really. If you want, you can add some finely chopped red pepper as well.

Thanks Momine.  You know, that Tahini really doesn't taste like anything.  I put waaaay too much garlic in the Baba Ghanoush.  I had this large clove that I thought would be milder.  I had it in my head that elephant garlic was milder.  The one I bought was labeled extra large garlic and thought it would be milder.  Don't know why I didn't roast the garlic with the eggplant, that might have mellowed it too.

I took a detour this week and bought a Baker's Square triple-layer chocolate caramel cheesecake pie on Superbowl Sunday.  Arggh.  Up 2 pounds.  Still need to lose 81.

Up 2 lbs today. I'm choosing to blame it on the chocolate I've been eating to deal with the loss of my cat on Friday and learning, also on Friday, that the quest for better margins found a whole new tumor, stage 2 rather than 1. Having an MRI today to decide if I need UMX or BMX.

So sorry, Wren -- what a wretched day!  Hang in there for better days ahead.  That chocolate was medically necessary, if you ask me.  I had some this week, too, to help me get through telling my kids about my bone mets -- after a year and a half of being in treatment for them, I finally felt like it was time.  That took a truffle or two to get through, believe me.

SO... I'm still up a pound.  I need to shake my bootaytay this week.

yes, hugs to Lulu and Wren and many xxs this week too.

I didn't lose a pound, I didn't gain a pound-stayed the same.  Maybe that was OK for this week.

    I'll keep after it.

Ditto, Lulu and Wren - many HUGS coming your way.  Need one?  Just reach out and grab it - cyberhugs are almost as good as the real thing.

I was down 1.4 this morning but I've been eating all the wrong things today so glad I wasn't weighing this evening or tomorrow.  Need to be good tomorrow with eating and exercising so I can still post lower on ELAB thread on Friday.

I'll take all your hugs and prayers!
