Up 1.5. Definitely started thinking of maintenance too soon. Now 133.

Down .5...... going in the right direction!! October has not been good for me (Thanksgiving, Anniversary getaway and Halloween still coming!) My sisters, brother, Mom and I are heading to Florida in a couple weeks...... must get serious again!!
For those who have had some weight loss success, Congrats!!

Down a pound and several oz this week - YAY!
I'll join the (U.S.) Thanksgiving challenge. That's Nov. 22 for our sisters to the North.
So a month...my goal is to lose 2.3 lbs by then and get past this plateau once & for all.

Rejoined WW. Down 5.6 lbs in 2 wks. Yay! But not doing as well this week.

159 lbs again today. The weight is pretty much staying the same, but I can see that the work in the gym is beginning to pay off. I'm changing shape, but I do need to lose about 15 lbs. Maybe try the cabbage soup diet? Desperation is setting in, but at least I'm not gaining weight. Grateful for that.

One year we went to a nice restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. We had too many people to fit into any of our houses. The dinner was marvelous and my refrigerator was not full of temptation the next day.

Went to bed hungry last night...... Let the "serious" effort begin!

Is it ok if I join in here?
If so, our good scale broke so my starting info is not wholly reliable. Hoping to get a replacement soon. For now, based on an old dial scale I'm at 146. Goal is 134 (or a little less). Just had my BMX 9 days ago and have basically been sitting in a chair since. Not helping with the calorie burn at all. :-(
So far I've managed to maintain so I guess that's better than gaining. Hopefully I'll be able to start walking, then get back to biking soon.
See you next Wednesday. Ugh. When we are traveling for several days....I'm sure picking a grand time to start, right?0 -
Welcome, Dulcigirl!
Count me in for the big push. We don't have Thanksgiving so this gives me a slight edge.

fmakj- I applaud your effort, but must question the went to bed hungry. For me, the surest way to "fail" on a diet is to let myself get hungry. I keep healthy filling low cal food on hand and eat like a thresher. Fresh veggies, fruit, water... I let Sparkpeople plan my meals (then tweak) and can't eat all the food they think I should have in a day. Works for me.

Hi Girls,
Good news after my gain last week! I lost 2.8 pounds this week. My gain is gone plus about 2 pounds more. So relieved to see the scale moving in the right direction again.
Didn't post yesterday as I spent the better part of the day in the Emergency Room. Had a nosebleed that wouldn't stop. I developed the problem with some nosebleeds during chemo and it has not gotten better after almost 2 years post last chemo. They cauterized it and I'm doing much better today. Only you gals understand all that we go through!
Count me in on the push to lose leading up to Thanksgiving. I'm already deciding to buy some candy that I don't much like for Halloween. I have NO control over a bowl full of Snickers and Reese's!!! So, I figure I best just not bring those home...hope my hubby doesn't mind.
All the Best,
Charlotte0 -
welcome dulcigirl and congrats Charlotte, glad you got that nosebleed under control.
My strategy is to wait until I'm hungry to eat, then stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore, instead of stopping when I'm full.
Not sure I'll even buy any Halloween candy this year. One, we live on a side street and don't get that many kids. Two, with my long commute, I'm usually home after the cute little kids have come & gone. So maybe I'll just avoid temptation altogether and leave my porch light off this year.

Gosh - it's been forever since I checked in. Officially, I "graduated" from Optifast a few weeks ago, but since I hadn't yet met my goal, I signed up for an 8 week "Restart" program that is supposed to help us get through the holidays.
(Well, that, and the fact that most of my cohort signed up for it, and we wanted to stay together.... )
I stopped exercising the first week of August. I couldn't go to the gym or the pool because I was protecting my immune system for my 8/22/12 Exchange Surgery. Walking was out, because it was 110 degrees every day. Then I had MAJOR recon done at exchange and had three months worth of restrictions. (Will find out in another week or so if an incision has closed enough to go back to the pool...) Then last week the weather got better, but I fell hard on my knee, rupturing the bursa. No walking for at least 3 weeks. Call the WAAAAAMBULANCE!!!!
Well, that was the BAD news.
The good news is despite all that, I made my program goal last night by losing 40 pounds on Optifast. Add that to the 16 pounds I lost before entering the program, and I've lost 56 pounds and more than 65 total inches.
I'm at 149. The docs want me at 145; I want to be at 140 in case the Anastrozole puts any weight back on.
Old BMI: 33.9 (Obese)
New BMI: 24.8 (Normal) WOOT!

Blessings, That is just plain inspiring! Congratulations on the hard work and the pay off. I have not gained on anastrasole, so it's possible.
0 -
Oh, thank you, Wren! I'm hoping my experience on Anastrozole will be the same as yours!!!
0 -
Yea for you, Blessings! You won't gain on it, because you won't let yourself! My weight didn't change because of arimidex.....I gained weight when I ate too much, and lost it when I didn't.....this remains to be true now that I'm done .....no magic bullets for me (rats!).

WOW Blessings - that is absolutely awesome! Congratulations.
I was reminded today of not measuring things in days, but in years. Went to the GP this morning for my annual, and I am 10 lbs lighter than last year. And that's a good thing. Need to stop focusing on the negative vibes of being stuck on one weight for weeks, and realize that over time I am accomplishing my goals. Just very, very slowly

CONGRATULATIONS to BLESSINGS!!!
I imagine it must be a great feeling to reach your goal. Just think of all those little estrogen factories that are gone and how much healthier you are!
You've worked so hard to achieve your weight loss despite some painful, difficult obsticles. Hope you are mending well and your knee is feeling much better.
Those of you who have lost a significant amount of weight post diagnosis and treatment are an encouragement to those of us who are on the weight loss journey and have a lot to lose as well. Shows it is possible!
Recently I read a quote from an interview with someone who had lost over 200 pounds: "Those who lose weight are persistent, not perfect." ...a good thing for me to keep in mind and thought I would share it with others here.

Thank you, ruthbru, pat01, and CharlotteMe!
Two years ago, I signed up for this very program. The day of the Orientation, I called and told them to take my name off the list. Four months on a liquid diet? NO WAY!
Then came my BC dx, and suddenly my priorities changed.
On March 26th, 2012 I started the liquid fast. I never thought about how long it would take, or what I would miss. I just tried to get through the day, sticking to the plan, and trying to get in my 10,000 steps.
By the time we were ready to add real food back in (July 2012), no one wanted to do it. We didn't believe that we could lose weight eating solid food. What we found was the KIND of food we ate made all the difference in the world....and HOW MUCH we ate was the other factor.
There were many, many weeks where I didn't lose at all....or even gained some. I just ignored the numbers and stuck to the plan.
Others in the class had a harder time. "You've never cheated?" they'd ask me, incredulously.
Since I considered this diet my breast cancer treatment (no chemo, no rads) why on earth would I want to cheat? Like Charlotte said, I just kept imagining those little estrogen factories disappearing from my body.
And like Pat said, I just focused on the big picture. I figured if I didn't lose pounds, I was still creating a healthy body just by eating well and exercising. I gave up my slavish dependence on the scale to tell me if I were "good" or "bad".
And yes, Ruth!!! Eat less, move more!!! Simple, but not always that easy....as soon as I had to stop exercising, I saw the pounds slowly creep up. I will need to exercise pretty much every day for the rest of my life. Fortunately, this means a ten minute walk, ten minutes of working in the garden, ten minutes of dancing wildly to a video, ten minutes of moving boxes in the garage....just moving. The time at the pool and the gym will be bonuses.
All I know is that a year ago I weighed 204 pounds. Had I not been forced by circumstances to make some drastic changes in my life, I'd still weigh that much.
Oh, this wasn't some miracle plan to "melt away the pounds"... I lost an average of 1 - 2 pounds a week like you're supposed to. Consequently, I won't need a tummy tuck or whole body lift like I might have needed with bariatric surgery.
I'm also thrilled that my overall health has improved so much! In the beginning, they took us off ALL our prescription meds (except for my thyroid med) and closely monitored us.
Now, instead of taking twelve prescription meds a day, I take two: Synthroid and Anastrozole. And for the first time, all my lab work is normal!
I'll still be in the Optifast program for another year. It's called Lifestyle. We meet each week to weigh in and talk about issues that might sabotage our weight loss.
Instead of dreading that night (like I used to dread Weight Watchers meetings) I really look forward to it. Having the support of those who have "been there" as well as the medical professionals helps me be certain I can keep this weight off.

Blessings, you have accomplished a great thing by losing the weight, and I salute you. It could not have been easy. I looked into the Optifast program, but I don't think it's right for me. I only need to lose about 10 - 15 lbs to shut down all those little estrogen producing factories as you so eloquently put it. At the moment I am trying to restrict calories to 1000 to 1200 per day, and this morning I started an interval training regimen in the gym whereby I will add running to my exercise. Hopefully the scale will start going in the right direction, because I have been steady at the same weight for the last two months. Never before have I struggled like this to lose a few pounds, but I'm not going to give up.

Blessings, your story is inspiring! I have not heard of the Optifast program. Unlike Ruthbru, taking Arimidex has made it very difficult for me to control my weight. I was always active. Played tennis for years. Now play golf at least twice a week and exercise regularly. Walk 3 miles about 3 times a week. Do some free weight exercises at home, etc. In 3 years my weight edged up 15 to 18 lbs. And I eat a healthy diet. I'm currently on Weight Watcher and have lost 7 lbs in 3 wks by cutting way back on food portions and by eating fruit and raw veggies for snacks in between meals.
My biggest downfall is having a before-dinner cocktail with my husband at night. A vodka martini. I enjoy the drink and it's a habit. I could take off weight faster if I eliminated it but I'm trying to lose my extra lbs and develop a permanent eating regimen at the same time. The small portions are a part of my future. But I would feel deprived if I gave up moderate consumption of alcohol as many bc survivors do.
I am willing to give up dessert foods because I have discovered that sugar is addictive for me. If I indulge during the winter holidays, I find myself craving sweet goodies. So it is better for me not to indulge and avoid the carb cravings.
Once again, BIG congrats, Blessings!

Thank you, liefie ...just be careful you don't go TOO low in calories, or your metabolic rate really will slow down, and your body will just hang on to those excess pounds. In Optifast, when we're doing everything right (following the program, exercising, etc.) and not losing (or gaining) they tell us to EAT MORE. Congratulations on your workout program! Even if you don't see pounds disappear, you are creating a healthy, strong body. That is something to be really proud of!!! Yay for you!!!!
Thank you, carolehalston! Right now, exercise is my biggest challenge. The PS won't clear me to go back to the therapy pool at the hospital until he's satisfied my incisions are completely closed. (The water is 94 degrees....despite the chemicals, lots of bugs can live in that temp.) But I do my best cardio workout in the water aerobics program, so I'm anxious to get back to it. I also can't walk right now, as I fell on my knee last week and ruptured the bursa, so I'm limping around here, grumbling the whole time.
WW is awesome! Even on Optifast, I only lost 1-2 pounds a week, which is what WW wants you to do. It all comes down to nutritious food and portion control. And that vodka martini? My motto is "Ya gotta have a life." And sometimes that life will include rituals and celebrations and other occasions that are important to you. I think someone mentioned the 80-20 rule. As long as you are being diligent with food and exercise 80% of the time, you can let go maybe 20% of the time to enjoy special treats.
Sounds like you are doing everything right!!! I know you will see those pounds disappear as time goes on...and yes, you are creating a new lifestyle for yourself...one that will pay off in SO many ways......contgrats to you!!!!

I agree with blessings 100%. I've never been a drinker, but I used to have a 6 pack a day habit (Coke) I quite drinking it when I decided I needed to lose weight except for one a week. We often eat Saturday lunch out and I eat what I want and have a Coke if we are in a place that serve the real thing. Of course now that I've been dieting for 5 months I can only eat 1/3 to 1/2 of the normal lunch portion that most restaurants serve... Anyway I've been trying to hit 1200-1300 calories 6 days a week and to not exceed 2000 one day a week and doing quite well. When my weight loss stalls it's because I let the sodium creep up, or because I'm eating too little. So yeah, have the occasional martini, enjoy it without guilt. I hope to hit 35# lost when I weigh in tomorrow! And I haven't deprived myself of anything I really wanted. I eat a ton of veggies and fruit, and a little bit of the other stuff. I'll have 1/2 a brownie or a small scoop of ice cream. I eat potatoes and a drop of gravy if the chance arises. Portion control is where it's at for me.

A friend gave me some homemade cookies so I'm up 100 grams. Love to hear everyone's battle stories. Blessings, I like your advice of eating more.

On the road, so no scale to check with. (Smart plan, eh?)
But I was down one before we left and I'm trying really hard to eat well while traveling.0 -
down 1.5....last night while my DH ate chips, I had a bowl of oatmeal (the icon represents me with a halo)!

Ugh - up 1.3 pounds this week. That's what happens with hunkering down for a hurricane with nothing to do for two days but eat!
Ruth - very virtuous!

sigh. Up a pound. But first 4 pairs of slacks I tried to wear were all too big, so I guess I'll take it.

GRRRRRR. Up 1.5 from last week to 134.5. I've decided to blame my birthday, which was last Thursday. And my DH birthday is Friday so more cake in the future. This is up 2.5 from 10/10. Maybe I spoke too soon about not gaining on anastrasole. More likely due to the onset of cold and rain (need fat to hibernate).
