Tonight DH told me the garden burger had 680 sodium. That brought the meal total to about 1200. I have high BP and 1500 a day is my limit. So there's still hope for tomorrow.

Badger, losing 10 lbs by Christmas would put me right where I want to be, at 122 lbs.  I'm with you! I'm just under 5'2" and that's a good weight for me.

I'll do it; but since I gained 5 pounds on vacation, those 5 better come off a lot faster than that!!!!

Okay, I'll bite (Oops, wrong word!), I'll join but going to LV in a couple months so not responsible for that time period.  So I'm starting today at 188.  There, that will keep me accountable.  Let's get it on.

Thanks ladies for rising to the challenge!  10 lbs in 5 mos is only a half-lb a week which is a nice slow realistic pace.  My goal is 160, the weight on my last drivers license, when I was in my 40's.

This will be hard.  I lost the chemo weight, now working on the old, entrenched, stubborn fat.

    Slv happy birthday!!!!

That is the one day calories dont count, right??

    No loss, no gain.

I'm so near my goal but still eluding me. Five pounds before Christmas would be enough. That would take care of the belly fat.

I'm in for the challenge! Refused to be good last night, this birthday meant so much to me, unfortunately I'm probably going to pay for it!

Birthdays are meant to be celebrated - especially after all you've gone thru. As long as you don't have one a week, you'll do fine. Happy Birthday.

Thank you Wrenn44! Back to being good, but I am having problems keeping my protein up. Finished 14/33 rads and counting!

  • sciencegal
    sciencegal Member Posts: 546

Do you eat eggs Shari? I just learned that the whites have almost off of the protein, without the cholesterol. I ate three hard boiled egg whites immediately.

On rads, I am also trying to do that 60 grams of protein a day thing- it is tough!

I usually only get about 15g, I am realizing.

I am also very much on a plateau until rads are over. If I am not gaining right now I am happy!!

Five pounds before christmas sounds like a good challenge. Thanksgiving will be tough, for us americans, but I am up for it!!

Sciencegal, I've never really been a big egg lover, although I do try and eat them occasionally. I have protein powder that I put in my green smoothies, but I find it difficult to have one daily-I find my eating is very weird since I've been doing rads. I'm not sure if its the pressure or what, but I've been feeling nauseated for the last week or so. I also bought some protein bars with the intent of having one in the morning with my coffee, but they taste horrible and I can barely get half down! Greek yogurt still tastes good, so I have that. I don't have a big desire for meat, but have been eating chicken. I just don't see how to get 60 grams of protein a day!

Yes, it is really hard. I have a handful of nuts several times throughout the day but they do have more fat than I should probably be eating.

I dont like eggs much either but it is the yolks I find yucky so I was happy about the whites having all the protein, I like those scrambled with some spinach in the AM.

Tonight I just had some "healthy nachos" with some fat-free refried beans and skim milk cheese on the flaxseed tortilla chips. it was delish but still only about 15g protein.

I guess we just do what we can and dont beat ourselves up about it right?

slv58, happy belated birthday to you too! I turned 59 - any chance it is your age too, and we were born on exactly the same day?

I never checked back here, because I was having way too much fun in Vancouver, and I'm afraid the scale is going to reflect that on Wednesday. Oh well, it is what it is, and I absolutely refuse to feel guilty about celebrating my b-day. Just so grateful to still be here! Went to a nice French restaurant for the birthday dinner, ate other restaurant meals too. Did a lot of walking there, but not enough. Fortunately I can start back on my exercise program on Monday after being off for 11 weeks after DIEP surgery. That should help, right?

liefie, yes, every little bit helps.  Start slowly, listen to your body, and check out the thread here in the fitness forum re: exercising safely for those of us (all of us) at risk for lymphedema.

    Happy belated Birthday, ladies!

I'm in for 10 lbs by Christmas!  Just got back from vacation, and discovered I weigh the same as when I left, 163 - I consider this a major victory, given the quantity of food and drink we consumed.  I've been hovering around 163 for a month now, time for some of this to start coming off.

Well I'm down .8 which I'm happy about since this last week was one where I didnt watch myself. Liefie, thank you for birthday wish, yes we have the same date! I turned 55, hope you had as great a birthday as I did! Now I have to get back on track. Good luck ladies stepping on those scales this morning! Remember NAB (naked after bathroom!)

Down 2 (of the vacation 5) when I NABBED just now. I haven't been eating particularly well since I got home, so I need to get back on track.

Down 100 grams weighing NAB and before coffee.

NAB, it is. Why would you weigh any other way? Wink No change for me from last week, which is good, since I've had a week of eating out and eating naughty with family in town. Time to get back on track.

    I always weigh NAB :)

Down .5 to 162.5 - amazing, since that included vacation.  Bad choices last night at anniversary dinner, and going out tonight to have dinner with old high school friend who lives on west coast, they are out here vacationing, so probably bad choices tonight too.  But then I am in the clear until football season starts!

Down 1.4 pounds to 161.4. Can't wait to break into the 150s! Will try to be very disciplined this week to see if I make it!

    Luck to everyone!

Stayed the same at 162. Had my b-day celebration last week, a dinner party at friends on Friday night, and 7 people for dinner on Sunday. So did good not to gain. Started back to exercise on Monday, so it should get easier, right? Right?

Down 2.5 to 130.5. Big sigh of relief. Sure don't want the scale to go the other way.

Still at 188.  Eating is getting better and need to rev up the exercise.

Up just a scosh (.1) from last week.  That's almost the same as maintaining, right?  Innocent

Diet wasn't the best but I walked a lot which prevented me from gaining more.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

For the first time since I started to focus on exercise and eating much healthier (just about 3 months ago), I have hit a motivational wall. I have forced myself to exercise daily because it helps with my depressed feelings.

But this week I binged on sweets two days in a row--very emotional eating. I almost added a third to that but binged on chicken instead.

My favorite hobby, quilting, no longer appeals to me at all since BC and I used to do that in the evening when I'm especially tempt to eat. I've tried other hobbies but none of them seem to take.

I've lost half the weight I need to lose to get to a healthy BMI. I don't want to regain this weight. Preventing (possibly) recurrence has been a big motivator up until now.

I am seeing a therapist and am on an antidepressant. I've just hit a wall with the eating and feel desperate for advice. Have any of you had this experience and found things that work?

    Thanks,

    Peggy

Peggy, I think we all hit that wall every now and then and not just once.  Trick is to keep on pushing on to get back.  Depression is a definite SE of this disease and so trust that you can do it.  Exercise is one of the best defenses against depression as the serotinin it generates creates a natural high.  You binged for 2 days and now you have posted it so that in itself is a win for you.  Don't beat yourself up about it; know that you are not alone.

Peggy, it's also really common for formerly favorite things to lose their appeal. There's a quilting and craft thread where many women have described that happening. Wanting to quilt will come back eventually, or you will find other things to enjoy. Maybe it would help to have a shorter term goal, say 5 lbs or so, with a reward. Not having a recurrance is a great motivation, but rewards are way down the line.
