oh wow Trish thats kool, lol i had two music teachers and both of them gave up as i would memorise the music and instead of reading it, my own bits would come into it and say i was wasting my money and just use my inner gift as reading  the music would take that way, they  used  to say, that was brilliant. but do it again and read the music, as my timing was different, i remember that silver thing that they would start and it hits the silver balls in the middle to keep us in time. that went out  the window with me. i was hard to teach. You do miss it Trish, asa its very relaxing aye. Mum does not want my piano to come all the way doen here as it would get ruined traveling in a truck, we are twelve hours away and BIL is as rough as guts with stuff and i would not trust him, its like everything in a hurry and too bad if it gets  broken. have watched him with other stuff. so would rather get another cheaper piano as my one was 4 grand years ago. lovely one. got that off a exclusive bretheren school music teacher.  hope everyone is ok,

Jenn hope you had a good sleep in your own bed and love been back at home. cheers

    Hi all

Have been MIA for a few days. We were away at a church gathering which I am not even sure how to talk about because we are very upset at the way things are going. I cannot believe that folks who call themselves Christian can be so vindictive against others who might be different and will not allow liberty of conviction. Enough said about that.

Now trying to get myself organised for Australia. We have three days in Melbourne then on to Adelaide and then to see Chrissy. Will PM you later today.

Jenn hope you are resting, take it easy girl.

Feeling cross with myself because I have given in and taken the prednisone for my bone pain - they cannot decide what is the cause of it. And even worse I have had to use a stick, it really makes me feel mad.

     Big hugs to all

Down to one drain and the stitches are now all out of my belly button in its new position! The community nurse was lovely. Both agreed that the last drain will likely be there a few days and of course it's the one that is irritated and sore...

Getting used to moving around my own bedroom and bathroom - getting out of bed is still a bit of a challenge but so nice to be here with the dog by my side.

Sorry to hear about your church challenges Alyson.

Sometimes churches have challenges thrown at them that either reinforce the strength of leadership or point out how far the leadership team has moved away from its real purpose...

Members of a church are only human and sometimes all are given a reminder of that...

hey Jenn, glad to see you getting around and lovely to have yr dog near you. Do you have tv or any movies to watch or do you read and sleep. Gad you have one drain  only now.  and its good that you have a  nice community nurse. hope it wont be long b4 next one comes out too.

Hi Alyson, sorry about your church  gathering, yes it can be they are are quite judgementle of people. and yes like jenn says, chruch members are human and met with the  same challengers that  everybody faces.  and its a shame you are in pain too. Pain makes you tired and yes CRANKY, lol  if you have to end up taking the predisone for your bones aches, then  it is better than suffering like you are.  though we don't like to end up having to take those kind of pain relief.

Hope everybody else is ok and enjoying their day and i hope you enjoy your last few hours of your lonnnnng weekend  Trish, and ready to toil tomorrow. lol

I just had a lovely nap lol. Changing time for daylight saving seems to have messed my internal clock more than it usually does, have been very tired he last couple of days.

Jenn good to hear you have one drain out, it's irritating not to have both out, but thank goodness you have a good community nurse. The ones I had come to me were just lovely and very good.

Aly it's better to take something for the pain than suffer through it. Churches can be challenging too. I used to go to our little one 10 minutes down the road. When I got bc, one of the lovely ladies used to call me to see how I was, but the minister never picked up the phone even once. I know they are only human, but his wife had recovered from leukaemia only the year before, I would have thought he'd be a little more empathetic. When I hadn't been for six months and no-one missed me, I decided it wasn't the church for me. It's not as if I wouldn't have been noticed in my absence, it's a tiny church with only 8 regular worshippers. I'll wait till we move back into Canberra and find one there.

Enjoy your visit to Oz and give Chrissy a big hug from us :-)

Yea, i found that with the sally army, hubby and bro are both members and when i was dx with BC, and they knew about it, not even a phone call to see how i was or support hubby. We have not been to church for a while. i would like to find a church i cam belong in again. I  liked the sally army as  i liked the music with the brass and they played modern and old christan music, but they are clicky and alot of family  that click together and you kinda on the outta. But i guess we may go back there one day. I was just a little saddened at their lack of concern. never mind, that is history. have a good night ladies.

    Hi all

I just went to see thr Plastic Surgeon and came out of the hospital not very impressed. I had decided that I wanted an implant as I don't want the stomach surgery and 6 weeks + recovery time. The Doctor seemed unhappy that I wanted an implant and was trying to talk me out of it. I told the Nurse that he didn't seem very happy and she said that he normally does Tram flap surgeries.

They gave me a booklet at the hospital about the different surgeries and on the front it says " Individual Women, Individual Choices" by the attitude of that Doctor that doesn't seem to be the case.

In another cancer site I go on we have chats once a week and one lady is a Breast Cancer Nurse at the other major hospital in Perth, I will ask her what she thinks and maybe get a transfer to that hospital if I'm not happy.

Hi everyone, Like Aussie I also visited the Bs and Ps today.  Had almost decided to go with the Mx and got talked out of it.  The Bs said just to do the Rx as it would be over with in 6 weeks and I would get to keep the boob.  Thought it was an easy and good solution for DCIS.  Dang I had just about decided on the Mx and now having second thoughts.  It sounds so easy to do Rx instead of Mx but they all play down the SE of rads, so now I just don't know.  Like Aussie I thought the implant reconstruction seemed easiest to tolerate in terms of surgery stress.

Trisha-Anne your vegetable garden sounds lovely. Must be nice to have a constant supply of fresh vegetables.  I have lots of annuals and many standard iceberg roses which are beginning to look divine.  The roses usually look their best come Melbourne Cup time but this year they are very early.

Jenn good to hear you only have to suffer one drain.  Have a great evening everyone.

lol you ladies have made me curious, so i googled for recons in brisbane and found http://www.paulbelt.com.au/breast_reconstruction  I kind of like the look of the lattissimus Dorsi flap in the before and after photos. i already have a magnificent scar running from where the boob was to the other side of my underarm and lets face it, who wouldnt like to get ride of that bulgy area. Would be worried about possible LE implications though in my case as they took a crapload of lymphs from that area. You know, one would think they could convert tuckshop arm fat into boobs hey, most of us have enough of that to make a few boobs, I know i do haha.

Im pretty much just dreaming on this tbh, cause you ladies have been talking about it. It probably wouldnt hurt to contact the public hospital he works from and get on the waiting list, but Id want the surgery to be a heck shorter than Jenn's as my old smokers lungs would probably give out if I had to go 12 hours. Plus I cant afford to lose more than a week or so recovery time, unless its life and death. Still financially recovering from my year out with bc and chemo.

Ahh well, it never hurts to know ones options should circumstances change. Ive always been fairly content with being a one tit wonder.

Sorry double entry??  Aussie I have PM with a Ps in Perth who has an excellent reputation.  He is a very caring surgeon, possesses excellent surgical skills, very kind and only does breast reconstructions opposed to some who do the whole cosmetic plastic surgery. He also listens to his patients!

Oh Linda I would love to have the excess fat removed from my back and go with the L Dorsi but the thought of my back muscle running under the arm and to the front makes me queasy. I saw a video on you tube and the back muscles in those boobs moved each time the arms moved especially when opening jars, don't know if that ever settles down, although I doubt it as it is still connected to the blood supply in the back.

I have trouble getting off the floor as it is, minus either the abdominal muscle or back muscle would make it nigh impossible. Whichever way there will be a downside. One thing I know, if and when I get over this problem I am going for liposuction figure I have nothing to lose and that pain would be minuscule compared to mastectomy.

Ahh well I was only thinking, guess I'll wait till they come up with something that takes 5 mins, gives no pain and looks fantastic Laughing

psst anyone wanna bet i go to the grave one boobed haha

I am very surprised at the amount of stomach control I already have after this surgery :-)

Spent the day mostly snuggled in bed and it was lovely. Community nurse came and took out a drain so only one left. will probably be there for a couple more days. Tried to hold off on pain meds this evening but that hasn't worked... Now drugged up and tucked back in bed.

I envy you in bed already Jenn, I am still waiting for everyone to get home for dinner, so no rest for the wicked as they say. How wonderful that you have not lost stomach muscle control, food for thought, no pun intended!

Linda I had a PM from a lovely American lady who gave me the low down on fat injections to make up a foob, have not heard anyone doing that in Aussie, god how easy would that be! I have many fat sites they could draw from. I suppose I would be too late (or too early)  for that technology to catch on here.  Apparently Suzanne Sommers is the celebrity trialling that, although according to my source they are already doing that in Canada.  Reposition the fat, now thats my kind of surgery!

Lyndall - they won't do that surgery on smokers.

It was our 35th wedding anniversary today - we had a bottle of bubbly to celebrate. We will go out either tomorrow night or later in the week. La Cena (my favourite) is closed on Monday nights.

    Hi all

Lolalee I'm going through a public hospital so am not sure if I could have that Doctor but I'll look him up. As someone said to me today I might get a different surgeon than the one I saw today plus the hospital may get more money for doing the bigger surgery. Plus I smoked for about 30 years and only gave up 6 months ago so I too don't know how I would go with the bigger surgery.

I am having a bad year so I really shouldn't have expected this to go smoothly to start with, hopefully it will get better.

Hi Aussies, what will the weather be like in Melbourne over the weekend and in Adelaide next week? Or rather what should I bring to wear? Last time we were in Melbourne it was so cold but have to admit it was July.

Lol Alyson; you can't predict the weather in Melbourne. It is 'four seasons in one day' as Crowded House sang :-). Definitely pack a warm coat.

Ladies who have had lumpectomy and radiation: have you had swelling and pain 18 -24 months out? I have this and think it is lymphedema. I have my annual imaging next Monday.

Karen, please send news of your trip!

Jenn and kate, I hope you in particular are doing ok.

Racy - my lumpectomy breast had hurt every single day since the surgery. Some days less than others, but always in some way. Drs all said "that's normal". That was one of the reasons to have this last surgery. No more pain :-)

Hi everyone. Sorry for being quiet lately, but I've been reading your posts and I'm thrilled to hear that your surgery was a success Jenn and it's now behind you.

Racy, Congratulations on 35 years, that is a fantastic achievement by anyone's standards. I hope you got spoilt big time with something special and nice.

Chrissy, I watched Smash too and just loved it. Sometimes it was a bit sappy for me, but most of the big numbers just blew me away. I hope they make a real musical out of the show.

While I'm mentioning tv shows, I am addicted to 'Breaking Bad' it really is without a doubt the best tv series to date. Unfortunately I (along with everyone else) has to wait until next year for the final ever season. Anybody else watched it?

Karen, I am sure you will have a fantastic time overseas, and I hope you'll post updates when you can.

Trish I don't think I've posted to say congrats to you for getting that wedding I knew you would (lucky couple). Gollyreally has been a while since I've contributed here.

My job is going really really well. I just love it. I am given such control and the others in the office (who I supervise) seem to be responding well to me and my occassional direction. But they are all good and know the ropes so I haven't really had much to supervise much. We are are good team I think. I have to go to Perth for a 2 day symposium in a fortnight, and next September there is a big conference in Adelaide that I will attend. Hello Chrissy!!!

Weather has warmed up nicely and I'm enjoying the garden. Lots of love to everyone xxxx

Chrissy 4-6 September next year. Speaking of travel, guess we travellers to Brissy should start thinking about finding accommodation? I don't mind sharing a room if we can find a triple bed place, and Lyndal were you still thinking of splurging and staying in a room too? Chrissy I know youré all sorted with Sue.
