Wow Ariom, what good news that is, hope infection goes quickly. very good news,  Kylies news was good from her tests too. so a good start for 2013 so far in test results.keep them rolling girls.  Have a great night.  warm gentle hugs for you all.

Before Christmas i had been telling you about one of our workers that never  turned up for work for three days, no contact etc,  well he has been phoning DH, and when hubby answers he hangs up, he did twice this evening and so i texted him and told him that who ever is phoning Ron to speak to him and a brief  explaination why he needs to have a meeting with us, well he rang within two mins of text and told Ron that he had asked for time off for the 19th, Ron told him that if that was the case,  he would of told him to put it in writing and also no way  would he get it right on Christmas week anyway esp with  two staff already down that he knows about, and  he said,  if you only wanted the one day, what happenend to the next two, you did not turn up or contact us about and nothing was mentioned the day before the first one he was  not going to be at work next day. you have to watch these little  brats as they go and bull shit and next thing you have  the labour dept on yr back. but we have so aminition for him, that  he wont be able to get past with any lies, if he wasn't hiding anything, why hang up everytime the phone was answered.  we will be having meeting monday evenng. so that is an up date on that saga. better he be gone, dont want this year starting off on a bad note.

Hi Everyone, hope you are all doing ok.  Great news Ariom, sounds very much like my pathology, exactly the same sized 11mm lesion except mine was closer to chest wall.  Good clearance from incision and wide margins elsewhere!

I had some issues with the incision, not exactly infection but slow healing where the skin was very thin. It is still healing and I am now 6 weeks post surgery. I think they try and scrape as much breast tissue of the skin wall which leaves it thin and the blood circulation to the area is compromised.  Not due for another fill until mid January which is good as hopefully the incision should be healed by then.  I was told to use betadine and sterile gauze dressing with micropore tape to keep incision protected.  Changed dressings 4 times a day and was so thankful that it did not turn into anything nasty.

Thanks so much to everyone for the kind words.

Thanks LolaLee, I have doubled the antibiotics to 1000mg 4x day, so I feel a bit yuck from those, but I don't care what I have to do to get it right.

I had my drain and the dressing removed day 5 and 6 respectively, told I didn't need to apply anything else. In retrospect I should have called the Surgeon to check that he agreed, but I just didn't want to bother him during Christmas.

He thinks that the antibiotics are all I need, he wasn't overly concerned once he had seen it. It is just two sections, not the length of the incision line. I see him again on the 14th Jan.

Ariom - my scar from my second lumpectomy didn't heal all that well, so the surgeon debrided it when she removed my port. You may have to have something done to fix it later after the infection goes.

Hi girls........I'm finally home after burying my mom today in 45 degree heat........not the best day all round for me. Hopefully I can get back to normal soon. Thanks so much for your prayers, hugs and kind thoughts.....they are much appreciated.

Angela, what fabulous news for you! I'm betting you are grinning from ear to ear!

Ariom your path report was the best that anyone could hope for! No further treatment means you will be able to get back to normal a whole lot quicker. Here's hoping the infection clears quickly.

Love n hugs all round. Chrissy

Chrissy, I was thinking of you, remembering my Mum's passing. What a dreadful day for you, and that heat to make it worse. I am sure you will have great memories  and will be thinking of your parents reunited.

I truly can't believe my good fortune with my results Chrissy, it will be a new kind of normal.

You can't take part here and read about everyone's journey, their diagnosis and their treatments without being changed by that information.  Everyone is so candid here, sharing the most intimate details with strangers who ultimately become friends who are united by this dreadful cancer thing.

I have been so grateful for the support and input by you ladies as I waited for each step to unfold, reading every day about where everyone else was at helped me stay sane too. As we have all said, the waiting really is the hardest part. Knowledge is everything!

Angela, I couldn't be happier for you, and  thankyou for asking me to stay around. I certainly will!

Hi Lia and welcome. This is a great site for knowledge, support and friendship with others who have gone or are going through the same as you. I'm sure you will have questions, many in fact, but never feel that your question is a silly one as here there is no such thing as a silly question. Hope you feel at home here soon.

Hi Lia, Im another one from Brisbane. Sorry youve had to join the club no one wants to be in, but glad youve found us here in the aussie sisters thread. Hopefully we can help you through the coming days, weeks and months.

Because I like to know Im giving the right information/advice (and not from nosiness lol) , can I just get you to clarify whether the mets you are referring to in your byline are in fact the lymph node involvement or whether you have distant mets to another part of your body. If the mets are elsewhere other than the lymph, that makes your dx stage iv and would impact on any advice we can offer. I only ask cause youve listed yourself as stage 11 and I know just how confusing it is when you have to put in all the information for that byline lol. Mine was wrong for months.

Sorry to jump in with that so early, but Ive found its important to have the right information from the start so we dont confuse matters. We have a wonderful mix of many stage BC ladies here and no matter what, one or more of us will be able to help you with anything that may be concerning you, or even just something your curious about.

Hope everyone is staying cool this weekend, the fires in tassie and the heatwave in SA are a true worry. I spent ages last night trying to find where my uncle lives down in Tassie when I realised just how severe conditions had become. Thankfully he appears to live well away from danger at present, so that was a load off my mind.

    hi ladies

thought i would post here as i havent for a while. trying to be positive that this year will be a fabulous year. 2011 and 2012 were crap so im hoping that this year i will find a great new job, get on the recon list and maybe even find a boyfriend!! the start of this year i was a bit down but now im ive really started to try and not expect bad things to happen and celebrate my good days. there are so many ladies in a worse off position to me. Im also learning not to be annoyed if i dont feel really energetic one day and able to do lots of tasks because im still trying to be kinder to myself and give me a break as im still on the healing process even though treatment is well and truly done.

love to all the new ladies on here. these girls are great. feel free to ask me or anyone else here questions.

Thank you everyone for the lovely and warm welcome, and please, no sorry's. Believe it or not I'm okay about it as I've had (not personally until now) cancer in my family for my entire 40 years so I had no fear of it and what was involved. For me, that's helped and made my time much easier and normal if there is such a thing where cancer is concerned.

Linda as for your question not a problem. I had to get out my biopsy paperwork just to answer some of them as I'm still getting used to all of the terminology. The metasasided cells were found in my sentinal node which was obviously removed and then they removed 2-3 more when they went back for the second surgery. I bargained with my surgeon for mininal removal of the breast tissue and lymph nodes due to my career in the Royal Austrlalian Air Force. I have to be fit for full duty including deployments overseas so needed to mitigate and minimise my side effects as much as possible. He was a little taken back with my direction but accommodated me so it was a win win as far as I'm concerned.

I've been lucky in that my initial tumor was directly under my nipple skin so I only lost 1/2 of my left aerola, that's it. Breast and implant both still in tact.

Today's day two post-chemo and other than a little bit of constipation which I'm managing I feel fine.

I don't know anyone personally who's had breast cancer so having a place like this will no doubt be invaluable to me. That and social media of course which is how I got here in the first place.

Everyone so far has been amazing at The Wesley Breast Clinic, Hopsital & Medical Centre.

Thanks for the clarification Lia, yeah that makes you stage 11, I had small met or mets in the nodes( cant remember right now if it was 1 or 2 nodes lol, but its in my byline) and im stage 1b and it was caught early.

If i had to take a guess Id say your based at Amberley? I have a shop at Redbank Plaza so one day, when you feel like drinking or eating you should pop in and see me, if you feel so inclined.

Was your Dr, Dr Bennett? He did my op at the Wesley and he was brilliant. A Wonderful breast surgeon and has been keeping a close watch on me in the years since my diagnosis. I have utmost faith in him. I didnt have private cover so afterwards he got me in with an oncologist at RBH for my chemo.

Glad your dealing with the side effects so well, if you have any queries at all, please do post them here. most of us have done chemo and know if something is right or wrong etc.

Glad to hear form you again Mel, I sure hope 2013 is a fantastic year for you.

Liv, do NOT envy you the heat over there. Hope you stay cool

Hey Lia, I was also treated at Wesley. My surgeon is Dr PV and my onc is Dr GB. Both are very nice.

You can also use the resources at Choices. They have great services.

Let me know if you are worried about anything and I may be able to direct you to other resources.

Welcome Lia - I also had surgery at the Wesley. I originally had Wetzig who is a total arsehole. I then had Melinda Cook who is lovely. Who is your oncologist? I had David Grimes who is also my husband's onc.

Don't worry too much, it will all be over before you know it. If you want any help regarding hair loss/scarves etc just ask - we've all done it. I am nearly 3 years out from chemo and have a lovely head of hair if I may say so myself.

Do you live on the northside or southside of Brissy? I'm in Newmarket.

Dr Petar Vujovic is my Surgeon, great surgeon, no a very good people person. I've been applying organic rose hip oil on both my scars and they're healing up beautifully so far. Although I now know how smurfette feels when she looks down at her breasts. There's still some blue dye left in my left breast from my first surgery. I've been told that will dissapear over the course of the year?

Dr Nicole McCarthy is my Oncologist. So far so good.

Janine from Choices has been a blessing to deal with. Breast Care Nurses really are the backbone for us from what I can see so far.

This afternoon/evening I've noticed some side effects, I think. Constipation, everything starting to taste just a little blah, dryish mouth and a little off colour. I only had chemo on Thursday.

Being RAAF I get private health care so I guess I'm lucky in that everything happened very quickly and with no waiting. One of the perks of serving your country.

I currently live out near work in Ipswich. But I travel a lot for my organic holistic lifestyle so happy to meet up at some stage with others locally around Bris Vegas. Smile

Lia, we have the same surgeon. Petar is a nice person but quite introverted naturally, I think. I have heard that Dr Mc Carthy is very good, and I agree Janine is very helpful.

Dr V strongly recommended lumpectomy for me, thank God, so I'm surprised if he wanted you to have more invasive surgery.

    What chemo are you having?

If you need help with hairdressing, Michelle is the hairdresser at Wesley.

Please post any questions and we will help you.

    Take Senokot for constipation.

    Are you working through chemo?

Lia - don't get constipated - bad move - I have very unpleasant memories of it. I would start taking the sennacot a day or do before chemo.

I'm glad the breast care nurses are looking after you - I can honestly say they never came near me at the Wesley - I was rather annoyed at that.

Lia, I have always been prescribed Movicol for constipation during chemo. I agree about the breast care nurses. They are fantastic. I did have to contact mine, first, and she apologised that she missed me. I wouldn't be without them as they are so hepful.

I confirm that suzieq has a lovely head of hair :-)

We are thinking of heading off to the beach again in the morning. Seems crazy when we have such a lovely pool, but ocean water is so nice...

Tomorrow is definitely my last day before back at work on Monday. Then I've got Tuesday off as sick leave because I'm spending the whole day traipsing between a chest, abdo, pelvis CT scan and a whole body bone scan. As you all know, you don't normally get these annually but they are required for the clinical trial I signed up for (denosumab, the D-Care Trial) so I get them annually for the next five years.

It's sort of good knowing that means we'll probably pick up any mets early if by chance I get them, but you can all imagine it's also a little stressful. Plus I now dread anything involving trying to find a vein. My left arm cannulation bruises haven't even gone from my cyst surgery 2 weeks yet :-/

Ah well, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow! Jenn
