Dang Mandy! A DVT that stretched from your groin to the ankle and they didn't admit you?!!! That is sooooo dangerous! I had a very small one after my knee replacement and spent two weeks in hospital..........please be very careful and any sign of being breathless or a cough that won't quit you go right to the ER and don't wait!!!! I almost lost my daughter to an embolism so know just how dangerous a DVT can be......big or small.
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
aww mandy ((hugs)) never ending you poor darling.
me too had to inject clexane twice daily, now only once daily. have you got an excruciating pain when you inhale or cough as chrissy says this is so dangerous. my pain was much worse than anything that i had to do with my bc, worse than chemo, mastectomy or radiation, the pain was just horrid and exhausting. the injections were not doing anything for the pain, the pain got worse & worse so onc put me on 2 weeks of antibiotics and eventually the pain went. and a tender lump appeared on my leg that was rock hard and thankfully that has gone too.
how long do you have to stay on clexane, i was told 6 months?
not fair you have to have this too, please give mandy a break
then when she is all rested up and in no pain let her feet be better then she can go for a gentle power walk.

Hi Liv, I think that I am luckier than you, no pain on inhaling or exhaling, just unable to take real deep breaths and I cannot walk uphill without stopping. My lung is still collapsed but not as bad as before, and the pleural effusion has improved. I dont cough up flegm, but have a little wheeze when I am lying down that annoys me. The wheeze comes and goes. My oxygen level is great and so are my other vital statistics. I started a short walk yesterday and increased it a little today, so I will get there. I am not sure how long I will be on clexane, and I had DVT when I was on chemo 6 years ago and after chemo finished, I went on warfarin for 6 months. I think that is all part and parcel of our cancer. My GP said she will let me know when I have had the ultrasound. She said if DVT gone (?????) then I can go off the clexane. I am used to being told small untruths like this, and I am expecting to be on it for 6 months as well. They wanted to keep me in hospital overnight, and as I have heard that before, and then 10 days later, they discharge you. I refused to stay in hospital this time and so I drove back the following morning. Hospital is 90km away or around 2 hours drive, by the time you park your car and walk the long hosptial corridors. At least I sleep better at home. Liv, I don't mind, as I still think that I am lucky as no other symptoms. I sympathise with people who have bone pain or like you had pain on breathing, etc, but thank you for your kind thoughts.
Cheers

Liv, thank you for your kind thoughts and I will take that on board.
I am off to bed now, but wanted to ask you about the Navelbine that you have with your Xeloda. Do you have the Navelbine as an injection or tablet form? I am looking into it and I will ask my onc about this combination.
Cheers

mandy
- xeloda 3000mg for three weeks one week off .
navelbine - 1000mg once a week x 2 weeks - taken in the 3 weeks whilst taking xeloda. both orally.
all reports that i have read and my onc reiterated that xeloda works much better in combination with navelbine.
no apparent side effects with navalbine, perhaps a bit of nausea's and a bit tired, take prochlorperazine with it and nausea's subsides within the hour.
hope this helps.
xx

mandy didnt mean to say better with navalbine, what i read and onc backed up xeloda works better in combination - doesnt have to be navalbine.
nite nite.. have a lovely sleep mandy,

How are you today Mandy? Are you feeling any better and Liv, i did end up doing the dishes, i was running out of bench space lol. i think i do them when a little instead of a big heap. I am going to feed animals shortly, my poor rabbits are dying for a feed of veges, they not keen on pallets and i have heaps of greens today, we get the cut offs from the supermarket and carrots and everything, they got Brocoli today and cauli and a heaps of lettuce leaves, good to get outside for abit of fresh air. it was cold again, grr, the temps are freezing at night, last two nights esp. totally opposite to you guys and the day too, a cold fresh wind. This tiredness is really annoying feeling like you cant get on with life, i have short energy bursts and then i sink again, i really hope they can gt me back on top again, this is not quality of life and i know alot of you girls are worse off than me and i should not grizzle and i am sorry to moan, but this feeling does not make you feel too flash, will go and do rabbits while i am up to it.

Mandy I hope you are starting to feel a little better. Hugs.
It was 42 degrees here yesterday and today I can't even see the other side of the paddock because of mist. It is lovely and cool and no smell of smoke today.

hi kyliet, and midnight, everyone is so wonderful. Would you believe that it is almost 3.30pm and I am still in my nightie (had a shower this morning but put my nighty back on to keep me warm) . Hubby is at my daughter's place in Lewiston changing the oil in her car as it is nice and cool here. I have been pretty tired the past 3 days and got abdominal cramps last night so I didn't take my morning Xeloda. I have slept for most of the day but I am starting to come good, so I am going to hang my washing up in a minute and do a little bit of gardening. I am always away from home Sunday to Tuesday night or Wednesday night as I babysit my 2yo grand-daughter on Monday and Tuesday whilst my daughter works. I will be visiting the other grand daughters on Tuesday this week so that Daughter in law have her 6 week old baby weighed and I look after the other 2 year old. There is only 3 weeks difference between the 2 grand daughters and they get on very well.
My elderly mother is also causing me concern, so if I have time, I will visit her on Tuesday afternoon, else it will be Wednesday. As you know, she drove th car in her garage a couple of weeks ago and caused some structural damage to the garage. She still tries to be independent, but as she has a type of Parkinson's syndrome, she is starting to need more help and she refuses "to let strangers in her house" to help her. I would like to be around for her so that she will have the best of care when she becomes immobile and will need to be fed. Wednesdays is her shopping day, and I also have appointments with the podiatrist, physio, doctor and ultrasound at the end of this week.
This is week 2 of my Xeloda and my week off starts on Tuesday and I am so looking to my week off.
Kyliet, I hope you are safe from the fires, and it is a big problem in NSW and VIctoria at the moment. Thank goodness for the cooler weather as I hope the firies can get them under control.
Midnight, I used to have a rabbit. (My neighbours son asked me to look after him as his father was going to get rid of him). The rabbit was called Ralph and my 2 boys were about 10 and 8. I knew nothing about rabbits, but he became part of the family and played with our cat and dog. He even came inside and was very clean and only did his poops on the newspaper in the laundry. I dont know how old he was, but we had him for over 3 years. It was a sad day when he got out onto the road, when we were staying at our parents. I heard a car beep its horn at night and the next morning we found him dead on the footpath out the front. I assume that he got a fright???
Cheers my breast of friends

Mandy, i would to be getting back inro my nighty and keeping warm. Good on you. i think i am going to have a cuppa tea and something to eat. by the time hubby gets home from the farm, it will late and i will cook tea. I brought a hot plate, it is controlled like an electric frying pan and is also a grill and i cooked steak the other night, it was yummy. tonight will do sausages, bacon, hash browns. and nice fresh chook eggs, but before that i will make a prawn cocktail, lol, there was a nice lettuce with the greens today for the animals, i shall be using that for us. i think it was accidently thrown in with the lettuce leaves. the other day i got alalfa sprouts, which were one day after date, but nothing wrong with it, i love those things. it was nice stuff today, sometimes it is crap and fit only for the pigs. so we shall have a nice tea, that hot plate grill is so good, i think you could do toasted sammys and piklets as well. the steak was nice and i will do chops one night as well. now i am flaming hungry. lol catch yas.

Mandy don't feel bad about still being in your pjs because so am I........lol. I like to be comfy and there was no need to get dressed so I didn't.

Sounds like we all had a nice meal today. My husband usually cooks but seeing he was out all day, I decided to cook an omelet with all the left overs. We usually have bacon and egg sandwiches on Saturday for lunch, but I like a change.
Midnight, your hotplate sounds great, especially if your husband comes home and you have your tea at tea time.
Kazzie, and Chrissy, thank you for letting me know that I am not the only one in PJ's today. That is so unusual for me, but, gee, I enjoyed it. I have also been watching a bit of the tennis whilst I am awake. Some great matches!!
Cheers, to my breast of friends

Sorry I havent been around much, Im flat out at work with the end of the school holidays in sight and a few staff moving to Alice Springs next week. Lots of juggling - think I should be wearing a clown costume.
My deepest sympathies Mandy and Liv on the claxane injections. I had 6 months of that back during and after chemo due to a blood clot in my arm. My poor tummy was black, blue, yellow and had hard lumps all over it for so long, I thought it would never return to normal. It did thankfully pretty quickly after I could finally stop the injections. Think Ive mentioned somewhere in this thread that gently massaging the lumps does help and cant hurt lol.
Theres been so many of us on claxane now, we might have to have a subsection within our thread called The Sisterhood of the DVT's lol.
Hope everyone who's being quiet here are out enjoying their weekend and are staying safe fom the heat and the fires. Its stinking hot in Brisbane again now, but not to be compared to Jenn and her 40+ in Sydney.
Been getting haunted by frogs in the toilet again sigh. Theres just something very wrong about lifting the lid and seeing something living and moving in your toilet bowl. Ive googled and im going to try a few things to see if I cant get rid of them for good. Getting my poor mum and then my bro in law over to remove them physically isnt solving the problem permanently and yesterday i saw a baby frog, enough is enough. Think it must be the heat and dryness causing them to seek water where they can. I know it sounds funny but it gives me such a shock each time cause theyre not there all the time, they just show up and then disppear. Im petrified i'll forget to keep the lid closed and come home from work to find them running amok in the house.
Thats about it for me. Work and frogs, frogs and work lol. I really do need to get a life dont I

mandy - your on the same schedule as me for xeloda, im looking forward to next week off starting wednesday too. its been a struggle energy wise this week. refuse to give up my power walk, it was a bit of a battle today but still good, lots of music and deep breathing.
midnight - now we are all flaming hungry, pickets chops toasties yum
linda - thx yes the clexane is more of a nuisance just having another thing to do each day. the hard lumps arnt very appealing with fitted clothes, looks like your one of those arty folks that have those weird implants all over their body. good to know it settles and goes back to normal after finishing.
i remember the days on my pops farm growing up all the frogs down the loo. never had the vision if i left the seat up they would invade the house..lol. did think they would jump up whilst doing a wee though, good memories.
everybody enjoy whats left of the weekend and keep smiling
(((((hugs))))))

Linda, nice to hear from you and thank you for the information on the clexane. I deliberated for about 4 hours last night due to my abdominal cramps from the Xeloda, before I finally injected the clexane. I wish that it is just one injection instead of 2, but they changed the dosage and I need 120mg daily. So I do the 100mg first and then the 20mg second.
I don't know what it would be like to lift the toilet lid and see a frog there, I would probably run a mile!!
I will be packing my bags soon so that I can drive to my daughter's place which is about 130km away across Adelaide. I take a detour first to see my Mum who lives 50km away to check on her and then will pop by the cemetery to say hello to Dad. I have slept enought the past few days to give me the energy for the next couple of days with my grandchildren and I am so looking forward to it.
My daughter lives on acreage and has a couple of horses, 3 dogs and 2 cats, and I just love it there. I hope to do a bit of gardening if I have the energy and time. Her computer is a bit of a worry and she has very slow if any reception, so I will see if I can keep in contact over there.
Cheers for now my breast of friends

It's my turn to be in PJs today. I am still so nauseous all the time and today I decided to be miserable and lazy. I am still assuming it is tamoxifen; I have plenty of good anti-nausea meds but they aren't helping. It is driving me nuts
0 -
Oo yuk Kylie......there is nothing worse than feeling nauseas. Have you tried just nibbling on some jatz? I find that when I feel that way I nibble really slowly some jatz.......I don't know if its the salt or the fact that my rum is working that seems to settle the stomach I just know it works for me.
Yeah, well, I'm still in my pjs too......lol......I'm not expecting visitors and I'm sitting in front of the tele doing the tennis thing so I might as well be comfy.......lol. I don't find it a problem to hang in the comfiness of pjs.......in fact I encourage it!.......lol.
Hoping your Sunday is a good one.
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
Chrissy, maybe next time you all meet up, you should have a pj party. You know over here i am surprised by the amount of people, esp in winter that go to the supermarket dressed in there pjs, one lady turned up with her family, kids and her in Pjs in her dressing gown, all ready for bed doing their shopping. lol, several times have seen adults shopping in there PJS at night. they dont care, nor do i, but some people give them funny looks of disaproval. i would go in mine too, they are comfy and you are covered. better than what some girls wear. skirts that short, you would not dare to look if they bent over. no wonder they get into trouble, its almost an invitation really, no excuse for men to rape, but they do wear very revealing clothing these young girls. Anyway yea you all sound very comfy.
Kylie. very sorry you feel sick. ginger is another good thing for nausea. hope you feel good soon. its not nice.
0 -
Hi Kylie, sorry you aren't feeling too good.
I don't know if this would help, but I was on Methatrexate for seven years for Rheumatoid. I would be nauseous for the first three days and the only thing that helped was Ginger Bons. They are a ginger candy from Buderim Ginger in QLD. I still buy the bulk back from their website. They used to be available from Safeway too.

Loving all the PJ confessions coming out now....still in mine, it's 10.30 but gonna go shower & do a bit of shopping before my chemo crash hits this arvo!
I have 3 girlfriends coming to stay Thursday week (we went to high school together & I was bridesmaid to all of them) & even though we are now scattered all over the country we try & catch up every year or 2 None of them have been to Perth so looking forward to showing them the sights.... the really good thing is I have hubby running around cleaning blinds, the backyard & all the things that normally get put aside for another day.......LOL
Liv......I wish I could muster up half of your energy! I do walk the dog each day but you seem to be like a machine.....:) Can only imagine what you'll be doing next week on your break from Xeloda!!
Oh I do hope you can find a solution to the frogs in the toilet Linda.......we have had them in the backyard before......very pretty green ones, not toad looking ones......but I agree, living things in the toilet bowl when you lift the lid just isn't right!!
I think I must be the only one of us girls that isn't into the tennis......Chrissy, you clearly seem to be the number 1 fan.....have fun in front of the Telly in your PJ's...:)
Mandy.....hope you're feeing ok & enjoy your Xeloda break too....& have a lovely time with your daughter.....:)
Take care lovely ladies
Karen x0 -
Kazzie, i am with you with the tennis, its like watching paint dry to me, its like sitting there enduring the wwe wrestling while hubby watches that, i like the netball, and diving and gym. i could watch them for hours, not tennis, not my thing, we are all different.

Hi ladies.
Sorry I've been a bit quiet. Just enjoyed a week in Brisbane with my daughter. What a lovely city. I spent most days just cruising the river on the ferries.
Sounds like everyone is soldiering on as usual. I don't have much to add but am here if anyone wants a chat. All is good with me, Abraxane weekly doesn't upset me too much, just tired and a bit breathless. Scans in another month or so, and a daughter doing VCE....not sure which will be more stressful!
Anyway, hope you all have a good week,
Angela0 -
kazzie ((hugs)) how gorgeous that your 3 girlfriends coming to stay with you.
is that your rest week off chemo? you lot will have a blast.

Angela - glad your week in Brissy went well - where did you end up staying? How did she go getting to Kelvin Grove? Hope you both enjoyed it.
