Jenn - stitches out - yay. I hope they settle down soon.
I have settled in to the Arimidex. Achey bones are bearable as long as I do weight bearing exercise (the dog is happy from walks) and I prefer it to the SE's I was having from Tamox. I was getting PMS symptoms a week before my Zolodex needle but this also seems to be under control now. I think my occasional acupuncture is helping also, but def. not in my BC arm. Fingers crossed it stays this way, I am having my Caltrate and hoping for bones to stay ok.

Hi jent28 I struggled with tamoxifen the first year put on 1 kg and hot flushes etc went overseas for 3 weeks and onc took me off because of the 24 hour flight I felt so much better but I am too scared to go off it for too long thinking of staying on it for 10 years as the studies show a much better chance of cancer not reoccurring

hi all
finished my first day of work!!! it was much more physical than what i expected and a bit monotonus. There was a moment where i was so tired out that i could hardly walk. i took a ten minute break and felt better. hopefully after the first week i will feel a bit better and get more used to it all.

Jenn, thankyou to your question, re my feeling better after my tests, i am probably better than i was, get a sore back often and sore ribs and joints, but am blaming that on the tamoxifen, the reflux has settled abit, which was getting me down. next month is mamo again, so hope and pray that is all clear again. hope you are ok and things going well now with you too. I was going to answer you last night, but hubby came home and i had to go and get his dinner and never got back to computer.
chrissy, hope daughter is ok and able to go home today, i guess you got alot of hearts and sewing done while sitting with her.
Melp, i hope you will feel better as job progresses. you will be abit tired to start with. just look after yourself. warm hugs.

Glad to hear it's all going OK (considering) Annette :-) Don't worry about not replying! We all know that we message here when we get the chance, or have the need...
I am back to work on Monday. Will miss my long daily walks with the dog and am sure that he will miss them too. I just don't have time to walk when I'm working which is a real problem.
Have spent many many hours this week working on my university assignment that is due on Monday. It's an academic paper and with my brain being so screwed it has been a real challenge to try and string something together.

Melp27, starting any new job is tiring but I'm sure you'll settle in soon :-)
Kylie, good to hear you that the Arimidex is working for you. I seem to be OK on Tamoxifen but my MO thinks that she may change me to an aromatase inhibitor in July. I'm planning to go to Italy and Spain in late July, early August so it needs a bit of thought. Delvzy, it is interesting that your MO took you off Tamoxifen because of the risk of clotting with the flights as I was thinking it might be better to stay on Tamoxifen until after my trip rather than risk side effects with a new treatment....food for thought and discussion with the MO!
Jenn, the Lumosity brain training looks interesting...let us know if you find it helpful. Re walking, DH and I get up at 5.15am most week days to fit in a 30 min walk before he goes to work but it is a challenge many days! Good luck with the assignment.....0 -
Hi all bad news I resigned from my job yesterday. Underestimated how physically demanding it was. My body couldn't keep up neither could my mind and it didn't seem to be getting any better. I heard they have a high staff turnover as others who start there some have only lasted a week or less because they didn't know how hard it would be.
0 -
Oh Melp I'm sorry to hear that. Any cleaning job is a very physical one but those in large shopping malls are incredibly hard on your body. Never mind, I'm sure you will find something more suited to you soon.
Jenn I hope your assignment got completed to your satisfaction.........not being able to think clearly is a real problem.........and it's not just caused by chemo brain. Luckily over time it does improve......thank goodness!
Well, in a couple of hours I will be on my way home again. DDs fiancé will officially take over care. She is home and just like her, raring to go but she has a few restrictions on what she can do for a while. For the time being or at least six weeks the only exercise she can do is walking so guess what she wants to do?........yup! You guessed it! She wants me to go for a walk with her before I leave so it will be a short one around the block. I know she is biting off more than she can chew even with that distance but she is one of these people who have to find out for themselves.
Love n hugs all! Chrissy0 -
Chrissy, glad your daughter is on the mend :-)
I finished and uploaded my assignment about 15mins ago. It really was pretty major - supposed to be at a level suitable for submission to an academic journal. It seemed to make sense when I read it through, so hopefully will get an OK mark out of it. It's worth up to 20% of our final mark for this subject.
I'm sitting with a glass of wine!

Forgot to tell you...
I bumped onto an old work colleague this afternoon and I had it happen to me for the first time... We caught up and she asked how I am, and then proceeded to tell me all about how her father-in-law died this year of cancer "only four months after it was found".
Conversation got awkward after that...
I hope she's still kicking herself...

Jenn, I'm sure you will get a good pass for your assignment just on your writing abilities, as your posts here show.
The current levels of spelling, grammar etc., are abysmal and I personally get sick of reading things over and over again to try to make some sense of the words in front
of my eyes. Some of the books on Amazon and the like have not been proof read even once, so forget about grammar, spelling and punctuation.
I sometimes think I have developed brain mets because I can't make sense out of what I am reading.....I'm sure your examiner won't have that problem and, compared to
others efforts, may give you extra points for a good clear read.
Keeping my fingers crossed you will get a 'positive' outcome in your endeavors as opposed to the many others we suffer here.
Sheila.

Tammy, I don't know how long your trip is for (sounds wonderful) but my Onc gave me a couple of weeks to come off tamoxifen before starting the Arimidex. It then took about a month before the sore joints etc kicked in, so I had about 6 weeks of no SE's. Might be worth querying if that could happen over your trip.
Mel - sorry the job didn't work out. Well done for giving it a go, hopefully something more suitable will come along. I am still trying to figure out what to do and I have no resume which doesn't help.
Jenn, you have put in your best effort and that is fantastic. Please let us know how you go.

Kylie, thanks for the info on your experience with side effects. I still have 10 weeks to go before 4 beautiful weeks away (yes, I'm on a countdown).....
I see the MO about 4 weeks before I leave so it is good to get some time frames in perspective.
I hope everyone is enjoying a great weekend!0 -
Hello all!
Welcome Delvzy :-)
Well we are all moved in, whew - what a week it's been. Have internet access for the first time today, and it's patchy until I can get the broadband cable started. Typing on a hall table of all things, the new desks don't arrive till Tuesday.
It's been a lot of hard work, but we both came through it fairly well. My back is aching a bit (not as bad as I thought - and have my appointmnet at the chiro on Tuesday) and DH started to get a migraine as the movers were loading the last of the furntiture, but all in all pretty good.
We couldn't sleep on Friday night, new place, new noises, and our new bedroom furniture arrived yesterday so went to bed in a proper bed last night, thinking we'd selep like babies. It wasn't bad, but not great. Then I realised this morning DH had my pillows and I had his. They are very different, so hoping tonight will be blissful snoring from both of us.
It was so lovely this morning to just press a button and have instant heating - it was minus 4! That's one plus for moving back to the city :-)
Also - ducked out to the shops this afernoon and instead of taking nearly two hours to get there and back, had a lovely shopping spree for two hours lol. Didn't spend too much - after spending nearly half a million I figured another thousand wasn't too much. Bought another tallboy for the bedroom a lamp tabel - and of course a lamp to go on it lol.
So - now I'm off to start thinking about cooking our first meal in the new house - another plus - we were so tired from moving and unpacking boxes we had take away the last two nights - that's more take away than we would have in almost a year before lol.
Hope everyone is happy and well.
Love to you all
Trish

Tammy I flew to NY last year and forgot to wear pressure stockings and ended up with aching legs and massive bruises I bought some as soon as I got there and wore them home no problems after that. It was nice not to have to take tamoxifen whilest I was over there (my onc took me off it when I went to Europe as well a couple of years ealier.') delvzy bendigo

Morning all
Just popping in after a pleasant weekend. Saw a cousin who I haven't seen for ages on Friday night which was great. Saturday night baby sat which was fun but tiring. DGS did not go the sleep until after 10!!!! He wasn't the least upset just awake as he had gone to sleep after we had taken him and his sister to the museum in the morning. Sunday went to church, at coffee at Devonport, looked at the house DS is interested in then came home and cut out the rest of my squares and laid out the sides of DD's quilt and then friends came around for dinner. At some point DH and I did the shopping so in all it was quite busy.
Was going to do some piecing today but friend wants to go and visit another friend who lives out of Auckland so must now get dressed.
I always travel with stockings and my sleeve of course and had few problems other than my arm swelling. I continued to take the Femara whilst away.
Do hope you have all had a restful weekend
Big hugs.

Hi Girls, hey i was some reading some biographys of some of the actors, well lee Majors and all the ones in those days, but i was reading the Farrah fawcett Majors and i was believed she died of BC, but it was actually anal cancer from a polyp that turned cancerous. i was shocked. i had always been in that mind set that she was DX with BC. I used to have this enormas crush on lee Majors and remember sending away for a big poster of him and stuck it on my wall and used to idolise him, i was 12 then , lol. nothing in my world existed except him, lol the things we do when we kids. i trying to find a pic of him now, he has aged, but still HOT< lol. Hubby says, i don't mind you going window shopping as long as you don't take your wallet, lol, i can look, but touching distance stays at good lengths, i am not like that anyway, one man is enough. he used to go google eyes at Linda Carter, Wonder women, even now he gets a silly grin when the programme comes on and Drew Barrymore, i like Leroy jefro Gibbs from Ncis. bad arent we. thats all under the bridge lol. i was just actually shocked about farrahs cancer DX.
Trish, glad you all moved and settling in well. Yes unless we have our pillows, sleep does not come easy,
Alyson, glad your weekend went off well.
Jenn, hope you ok and recovering well from recent procedures and pass with flying colours, which i am sure you will.

thanks everyone. im glad i was able to work for two days at least. i know now that i can do it but just not in that type of job. ive been looking for office work for ages before i got this job but i do feel thats where my heart lies in part because i know i can do it very well.
just need maybe 2-3 days per week with not as long hours or get more breaks within the day. im going to get an appointment with my job service provider and hope they can help find a more suitable job that isnt as physical. I was really down for a few days after but i realise its just part of life things dont always work out even when you try really hard to make it work.

Hello all.
I need to tap into all your wisdom.
My mum has been diagnosed with cancer and will need to start chemo in about 4 weeks. I missed the bullet and managed to escape having chemo so it is a new area for both of us,
Can you tell me the best place to go and get hats etc for her?
Thanks heaps
Viv
Oh I live in Adelaide

Vivvy girl, welcome, i am sure somebody will be able to assit you with that info, i am on the other side of the tasman and tap into here for a chat with these ladies, but as for where to shop, they would be better to answer your questions, sorry about your mum tho. I escaped chemo too. good luck and warm hugs to you both.
Alyson, what a gorgeous rose, absolutely.

Hi Viv, sorry to hear about your Mum. I got all my hats from headcovers.com. They were still cheaper even after paying postage from America. It is a huge selection and the quality was fantastic, better than some I paid heaps for here. I couldn't tie scarves but they have ones with elastic on them which were so easy. There are a few ladies from this group in SA. Any chance you could come to our get together in Sydney at end of November?
Trish, it's great you are all settled. It will be much easier for you without all the travel but hard to get used to city noise. Soon you wont even notice it.
Hugs Mel.

Hi Viv, I got my scarves and beanies from the RAH, but the Cancer support Group in your area may be able to help you. I also suggest you contact your local Breast Care nurse, they are wonderful and can maybe steer you in the right direction.
Cheers
Mandy

Alyson, beautiful photo.
Melp27. your health is more important and I hope that you find a better job with nice hours. xxx

Hi vivygirl
I got some hats from the rah also. Think there are also hats at bonne wigs in rundle mall but I'm not 100% sure on that. I agree your breast care nurse should be able to help with some info. What hospital is your mum having treatment at0 -
Thanks all for the advice.
Mum's surgery was at Flinders Private. As yet haven't returned to speak to specialist or oncologists so not sure.....her next appointment is early June.
Hugs to all

I am having a really bad week. DS (12yo) is having trouble walking after getting his cast off. Obviously this was the final straw and he really broke down about everything in our family going wrong - a 12 yo has trouble seeing that other people have problems too. His dad was in and out of hospital and wheel chairs from when he was one until 10 then my BC and then his broken leg were finally all too much.
He was really upset by the Angelina Jolie stuff because he got the impression that because I hadn't had my boobs off I might die soon. We talked about it and I have rung the school and some counselling is on the agenda. His 19yo brother has been fantastic and we will work through it but I just needed an outlet. x

Oh Kylie you poor kid. Sometime life just seems to keep on punishing us from a 12 yr olds point of view and of course he was so looking forward to getting his cast of. He would have thought that his leg would be as it was, not realising that because his leg has been inactive for all that time the muscle will have deteriorated and shrunk. was it ever suggested to him that Physio and gentle exercise would be needed to build the muscle back up and that it would take at least the same amount of time that he was in plaster?
You are doing exactly the right thing by getting some counselling .........kids do think on an entirely different level to adults and what we find simple to deal with are really mountains like Everest to them.
Vent away here anytime you like.......you know we are all listening.
Love n hugs. Chrissy0
