Hey Kylie, sorry you having a bad week, Hope some councelling will help your boy come to terms with things that have been happening to him and you and your family. Some families just have a run of bad things that happen. Yes the Angelina Jolie saga could propose a negitive response to kids who have had the trauma of their mums having BC, they don't see it quite as positive as adults, its a huge thing for them. hope things become calm in his mind and he can start to relax and his leg gets alot better, been a long time in plaster, poor chap. warm hugs

Kylie, are you meeting up with us in Sydney - Racy, Jenn, Trish, Chrissy, Mandy?
0 -
Sorry to hear that your son is struggling Kylie :-( Hope the counselling helps, and I am sure that with his youth his leg will strengthen quite quickly...
Jenn0 -
I hope to come too Racy. Must book next time there is a flight sale on.
Kylie, I remeber when I broke my leg at that age it took ages to come right but it did. He is probably just stressed out and needs to talk out his feelings. BC is hard on children.
Raining here, a month ago we wanted rain now we want it to go.
Big hugs

I have just learned that my SILs niece has just been dx'd with BC......she is 36 😒. Apparently she found the lump two years ago and the doc just passed over it.......now it's advanced.......other than than I have no more information. I just am so angry that a doctor could do that because of her age......yes I know it happens, all too often but this is the sort of thing they need to be help accountable for.
This morning while checking FB, I get a message from my sister that a friends son over on the Island has died from melanoma.........his mom passed with lung cancer two years ago. This was found last year, he had a massive amount of his face taken as well as doing chemo but the damn thing got away. Just a not so friendly reminder to us all to have those skin checks regularly.
Not feeling very cheery right now......I wonder why?.....not!
Love n hugs all. Chrissy0 -

Chrissy - big ((((hugs)))) to you - no wonder you are feeling less than cheery xoxox
Aly - what a beautiful couple :-)
Kylie - great that you can come to Sydney. When we get closer to the date and know how much accommodation will be, you can make a decision then. I'm sorry to hear your son is struggling too. It's hard at that age when they don't have patience, but at least his youth will mean he'll heal a lot faster - give him a hug from me xoxo
We are settling into the new house, now have had three people come to look at the kitchen and give us quotes, hopefully will have a new kitchen in a month or so :-)
Oh - and on Monday I went in and bought a new car! lol Pick it up today. Last December when my car died, we bought an Elantra - and that went to DH - he's never had a new car, so I thought it was only fair he get one. I got his old one, and it's time now to trade the poor old thing in before it dies on me too. So picking up a new i30 this afternoon (yes another Hyundai) and it's red! That means it goes faster lol.
Have a good day everyone

Thanks all......you are such a great bunch!
I've finally done a few of the dream catchers so here they are.
A couple of them have some crystals on the thread and some of the others, yet to come, will have coloured beads and gold and silver ones as well to help catch the light. I'm trying to make each one just a little different some how so there will be loads of interest.
Trish, so glad your move went without a hitch and you are settling in. Wow, a new kitchen sounds divine! You must post some pics when you are done.
It just goes to show how lazy we get when using an iPad a lot.....lol.....when I get back to my lap top I keep forgeting I have to use the capitals key and the punctuation marks!.....lol.
Have a great day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hi everyone, I have been reading your posts but not had anything much to say. I am not sure if you are aware of the OTIS foundation, and thought if anyone feels like a bit of a break, then have a look at their website. They are a non for profit organisation that focuses on women who are living with breast cancer.
"The Otis Foundation provides retreats for women and men living with breast cancer at no accommodation charge. We aim to provide immediate relief to people who need a short-term break away."
I have heard nothing but good reports about these retreats at our support group and thought that I would share this with you. Their website address is -http://www.otisfoundation.org.au/.
Chrissy, you are so clever!!! The dreamcatchers are beautiful. xxx

Wow, there really are some wonderful people with great ideas...I hadn't heard of Otis houses. Delvzy, good to hear to have taken advantage of the opportunity. Mandy, thanks for the heads up :-)
Chrissy, beautiful work!0 -
Delvzy, thank you for the confirmatiion. I only wanted to share my knowledge and not promote anything. I only heard about them at the beginning of this year.... that is 6 years after initial diagnosis!!!
I have been following the weather forecasts this week and I noticed that it is getting quite cold in Bendigo, especially at night. Do you have a combustion heater?? I just love the wood fires.

Mandy, I haven't had anything else but wood fires for the last 25 years.......they sure do warm things up! Thanks for the heads up re Otis, I'd never heard of them either......good to know there is a place for R & R.

Hi Mandy yes it is quite cold at night we have ducted gas heating and an open wood fire for weekends I love lying in front of it with a good book . is victor harbour cold? I thought you had similar weather to us
0 -
We used to live in Lewiston (our oldest son lives in that house now) and had a wood fire there. The nights get very cold as would Burra and Bendigo because it is more inland. We moved to Victor Harbor just over 7 years ago and as it is on the coast, our summers are usually cooler and our winter nights are milder???. We have reverse cycle airconditioning and I really miss the log fires. Because it is a rural town, I can smell the wood fires when I let the dog out for his toilet break at night and it brings back wonderful memories.

Chrissy love the dreamcatchers :-) I love the idea of the word too - "dreamcatchers" it's such an evocative word isn't it?
Hope you have a great four days Aly sounds interesting and fun xox
Mandy thanks for the link to the Otis Foundation. I heard of them when I was still going through chemo and there's a property in the Snowy Mountains at Threadbo, we were booked in to go and then my DH had to have eye operations, and we couldn't go as it was at the same time. The people were really wonderful, they said I could go any other time, even if I'd finished my treatment, but I thought it was best to leave it to others who were going through active treatment. It's a great idea and I should have thought to remind all the new girls to the Aussie thread that it was there for them.
We had a wood fire in the house we just moved out of, they are great at heating the whole house. This house doesn't have one - it had been pulled out years ago. We now have a split system as well as underfloor gas ducted heating. I must admit, I don't miss the whole cleaning out the ashes and the dust and mess that a wood fire makes. At the moment the novelty of just pressing a button and having instant heat is lovely lol. No doubt in a few months I'll be missing the fire though. It was lovely to wake up to a lovely warm house this morning - outside is foggy and minus 2!
We did a twins' 21st birthday party last night. It was so much fun. It was a 1920's cocktail party and the guests were all dressed up. We had a dedicated room to take photos in that had a "props" box full of feather boas and fans and a whole heap of other creative things. It was a huge success. Once we start processing photos I'll put a sample up - some of the girls were just amazingly beautiful - a lot of the boys looked like Irish jockeys lol.

Trish, I also love underfloor gas ducted heating....I had it when I lived in Melbourne and the house was always toasty warm in no time....I'm now in Sydney and none of the houses have it but maybe they should as it does get cold here as well!
We were at our mud hut in the Capertee Valley last night. Very cosy under the doona but it must have gotten cold overnight as there was ice on water in a bucket we had left outside. I slept for over 11 hours so I must have needed a rest! It is so peaceful and relaxing......0 -

Did anyone watch 60minutes tonight that story about the family with the Brac2 gene was heart wrenching0 -
Hi all
Yes Delvsy I just watched 60 minutes, very sad story. And it's true who would want to have their breasts taken off if they didn't have too. I'm very gratefull that I've now got my expander in and it's full, just waiting for permanent implant now. As one of the sister's said the breasts aren't real and don't feel real, I know that mine feels fake although it looks pretty good.
It's been quite cold her in Perth, I hate getting up early for work in winter.

Hi Aussie 12 I finished and had my last expander taken out and my final teardrop implant put in yes they are numb but they look and feel fairly natural. I had to have them done one at a time and had heaps of trouble with left side.
I thought Perth was fairly warm all year round cheers0 -
Hello girls
A very chilly minus 3 this morning. I picked up my new car on Friday afternoon, and it was sitting out in the driveway this morning - had to wait 5 minutes for the ice to defrost off it before I could drive to work. Hmmm... going to have to try to fit it under the carport soon.
Ariom - just realised you are in Paynesville - I have a girlfriend here in Canberra who will be building a house in Paynesville later this year. She's just sold her house in Canberra, but will be working here till November while the house is being built down there. Small world isn't it!?
Nothing new to report - have seen the kitchen of my dreams .. sigh .. of course I fell in love with a recycled hardwood bench top didn't I!? It's the cost of a granite bench top, which I had decided we couldn't afford. So - I think our kitchen will end up costing a lot more than I budgeted for. But it's a room I spend a lot of time in, so maybe it's worth it :-)
Have a good one everyone
Love
Trish
