Hi girls......well, it is as I thought, progression! One of the liver mets has doubled in size again & there are now 3 more....6 in total.......:( Extensive bone mets, not much change there!

Not sure what is next, I have to talk to my onc but I would put my money on no more Xeloda!!

Scarey as it is, it isn't the end, we just have to try & find another chemo that will work. Unfortunately it'll be back on infusions, followed by sick days in bed & the neutropenia.....sigh!

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on being around a baby whilst having chemo infusions?

    Feeling sad.....

Hi Karen. Oh shit!!! Not the what we were hoping for.........I'm so sorry Karen but rest assured your new grand baby will be fine to hold and cuddle as there is no danger to it from you even if you are on IV chemo.......but......it can be a danger to you so please make sure you are careful not to pick up any childhood bug that bubs may have.

What ever your next treatment is I sure do hope it beats that cancer right back for you.

Do let us know when you find out from the onc.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

hi again girls.....just spoke with the onc, having Epirubicin aka Red Devil, 3 weeks on & 1 week off.

Having my heart tested early next week & all going well will start on Thursday. Hair loss again.....sigh!

It's been one hell of a long day & even though I suspected the progression it still SUCKS....

Now have to tell all the family.....hate that bit, only hubby & Preggy daughter know at this point & the look on her face nearly broke my heart.

Thanks for all your kind wishes.

firstly karen so sorry to hear your news.

im thinking seeing as i have not got a job yet i may need to consider seriously looking for a housemate to share the costs and live in my other room in my unit. my parents cant help me forever with my bills like phone bills etc. been trying so hard but it seems the universe doesnt want me to have a job yet. it would help alot financially by halving the cost of rent and excess water and it would give me some company.

Not sure how to start and how the person would deal with me telling them about my cancer history and them being here while im having my operation in 2014. Feel like ive been hanging on by my fingernails for a year or two since i finished treatment both financially and emotionally. if something doesnt change I will fall off the cliff metaphorically.

Karen 'the red devil' really does get those cancer cells running! the sooner the better!! Don't worry about the hair loss as your little blonde wig looks gorgeous! Good luck telling the family.....yeah, it's hard but you will do okay. ((((((hugs)))))))

Melp, start by putting an ad in the Advertiser and then do interviews to see who you are going to click with. When you decide who then you can tell them about your cancer and ask if they are okay with it then......not before........there is no need to tell them all. Good luck!

    Hi all

Karen best wishes, hope the new chemo sorts it all out.

Went to the hospital today for the dressing clinic, everything looks good. I had another Doctor look at my boob, I don't know how many different Doctor's and Nurse's have looked at my boobs so far ???

The hospital has a helipad and today the RAC rescue helicopter actually came in when I was there. There were Doctor's and Nurse's waiting with a few ambulances and security around so that no-one went to close. The emergency dept is only a minute away but they still have to put people in ambulance's as it's too far to walk. Didn't see anything on the news unless it was just a practice run.

Melp, you would word the ad that it says female and you would do phone interview first as well as ask for references.......no different than going for a job. When you do a face to face do it at a cafe not your unit and only put suburb in the add not the street address.

Yay Carol! Glad you got the dressing refreshed......it sure does feel better when they are all clean......lol. I wonder what all the excitement was about with the helipad? The sticky beak in me is now wondering.........lol.

Bugger Karen ((((hugs)))) I had FEC and the "E" part of it was Epirubicin. I know one thing with that one was I had to drink lots of water right from when they were doing the infusion, and I pee'd pink for a while lol. I was one of the lucky ones on FEC and tolerated it fairly well. I took all the anti nausea meds they gave me, even if I thought I didn't need them. I did feel a bit queasy from time to time, but took more meds and that went away. I'm not sure if Epirubicin is responsible for taste changes, or it was one of the other two or all three put together. My taste changes weren't too bad on FEC though, not great and most things tasted pretty ordinary. I found sucking on jelly beans really helped. They tasted ok, and the glucose in them put "something" in my tummy.

I'm keeping everything crossed for you, I hope Epirubicin is the chemo that will kick those tumours in the arse!! I think of you every day and send you many (((((hugs)))) during each and every day.

Mel - as Chrissy says, ask for a female to share with you, if that will make you feel more comfortable. Once you have found someone you are comfortable with, then have the conversation with them. And asking for references is the only way to go.

Carol, so glad everything is looking good for you. Fresh dressings always makes us feel better :-)

Hope everyone has a good day.

Karen when I had red devil i was told to be safe, minimise physical contact with my children in 1st 24 hours and no sex for 48. I had to double flush the toilet and not to share towels, cups etc for few days. I was a vomiter so had to ensure no cross contamination,  an ensuite would have been perfect.  But after first 24 all good with cuddling children :)

I actually bought red cups, towels, toothbrush etc for simplicity. Really watch out for UTIs from it, so lots of water which flushes the veins also. I am sure all drinking cranberry juice did was turn me off cranberries permanently.

Wow, Kylie, I wasn't told any of that. I do remember at my "education" pre chemo, was told that condoms were a good idea. I look back now and wonder who on earth would want to have sex after chemo lol.

Karen, I hope you are like me and tolerate it well, and don't have the throwing up se xoxo

Karen I was given the same advice as Kylie when I was on the red devil. Double flushes, wash hands twice etc and basically no exchanging body fluids for the minimum 48 hours. Therefore I think that if the baby is a licker, dont let them lick or suck on you - but that still lets you get plenty of cuddles and dry kisses in, even in that first 48 hours. So sorry to hear of the progression, but its good you have the plan in place.

Hi to all, shop was really busy today so guess I'm flat out now till xmas day. Yippee - need the money. Melp, I completely understand about the finances on top of the emotional strain. Ive been living that nightmare pretty much since my cancer as the economy took a dive about the time I finished chemo and with one thing and another out of my control, the shop has been a struggle since. Guess all we can both do is stick to it, stay positive and work towards trying to be happy. Ive often thought of getting someone in to help me with the mortgage, but figure no one but me would put up with 4 needy and demanding dogs lol.

    Hi all

I went to work Friday for our Christmas lunch and lots of the staff said that they were surprised that I was going to go on checkouts for 3 whole days next week. I felt that it would be too much for me as well but I needed a Doctor's certificate.

I went to the GP today and he wrote me a certificate that I could only do 4 hours of checkout a day. My checkout superviser wasn't very happy when I told her today as the next few weeks will be our busiest. I will be doing other stuff for the other 4 hours so that I get different movements so I hopefully won't get too sore.

It's been very hot here in Perth, got to 40 today and 41 tomorrow !!!!

you can have your heat over there Carol, how do you stand it? i am past it at 27 over here. hope it goes well with the job, don't over do things, you are the one that suffers in the end, noone else, whether they get busy or not, you take care of you or you will finish off unable to work at all. at least it will be air conditioned in the shop where you are.

chrissy, i don't know( this is relating to food again) lol. you watch river cottage,, that chef guy with the glasses and cooks the most wonderful feeds up, last night it was  gone fishing, and he was cooking this food up,  fish, straight out of the sea and on the barby, once they cleaned it of cause, i tell you ,i  could of almost been  like a dog and drool, the only thing i get put off, they lace eveything with chilli, i don;t mind  a little, but everything is spiced up too much. i like  flavour, but i like the fish on barby that i can actually taste the fish, not the spices, but man it looked so good, if the tv screen was not in way i would of been on there eating a feast lol, bloody tv. lol in my way.

it is hot today, not as hot as you guys got, or perth, i don;t know how they do it with the heat..41 degrees. geez.

hope eveyone is ok, Karen hope you feeling better girl. trish. jenn, hope the house is gettig together now.  take every one.

I have my MUGA scan (I think that's what you call it!!!) tomorrow & then start the Epirubicin on Thursday. 3 weeks on & 1 week off. Not looking forward to it at all but must fight the big fight with all my strength to the very end.....

Off to a family lunch today, mum has her sister & brother in law over from England.....not really looking forward to it but some things we have to do!!!

Aussie....take it easy at work, your health comes first!

Jenn...I hope you're all settled in your new house, it looks lovely.

Annette....there are so many cooking shows on Telly these days & every time hubby sees cake or something he's like ' I feel like cake now'!!!! I'm not sure they're not good for our waist lines.....lol

Trish...how you feeling? I hope the pain is subsiding as you delete more gluten from your diet. Must be hard though.

Karen you can keep that heat. Have seen how hot it is as DH has been watching the cricket which he would do 24hrs a day if he could!! Hope lunch went well for you.

Thunder rumbling around - very humid today here.

Karen, good luck with the MUGA scan. Let us know how you go as we will all be thinking of you. Enjoy your lunch, and I hope the heat doesn't get to you....(((hugs)))

Well, I slept from 6pm last night to 9am this morning. I helped out most of the day at the Christmas Tree Festival and was looking forward to the local Christmas pageant. I just popped home to have some tea and put a jacket on but came down with a headache and felt sick. I thought that I would just lay down for a few minutes, lol. I forgot to take my clexane and woke up about 2am with a sore calf, so got up and game myself the injection and went straight to sleep again. It feels better today.

Off to Adelaide in a minute for the usual ritual. I have about three weeks off after this week as my daughter will be on holidays. I know that I will miss the grandchildren, but I am looking forward to some "me" time. The weather here is glorious, but no doubt we will be getting Perth's weather soon.

    Cheers

lol Karen,  on sky, we have the food channel, i try not to watch it when i am hungry lol, mind  you if i only watched them and lived  off looking at it, i maybe ok lol. i am more of  into my savouries and bread, than desserts, i have brown bread, vogel as white bread is full of sugar and put my blood sugar up too high.  i had white toast the other day with marmite and my Blood sugar was 14.9. but we had run outta vogel, well it went mouldy with the clammy heat..

Karen I've had four or five MUGA's hope yours goes well today, they are quite time consuming, and you learn to lie still for long periods with them lol. I really hope Epirubicin does its work for you. Crappy time of year to be starting it though. And I'm hoping with everything I have that you have mild se's from it like me ((((hugs))))

Carol - as everyone has said, you need to look after you first.

The heat from the west is on its way over to us ow - the weekend was perfect here, but we are looking at high temps from tomorrow till the end of the week. At least this year we have airconditioning in the house - YAY!

    Have a good one everyone

    Hi Annette

Yes - Beau wasn't well, it turned out he had a ruptured ear drum one one side and a seed that was pretty deep down in the other ear. Three weeks, $690 and lots of antibiotics later he's much better :-) His hearing is getting better and the eye that was turning in has returned to normal.

Finn (the puppy) is growing like a weed lol. Full of energy and playfulness. He's a cuddler too Smile likes nothing better than to climb on our laps while we are watching tv and snuggle up, well that's when he decides to sit still for long enough, otherwise he's racing around the house madly and leaping into the air (he's getting quite good at that lol), when he finally wears himself (and us) out he has a snooze on someone's lap. At 22kg now and a bit taller than Beau, that's a lot of dog in your lap lol.

    Trish

does anyone have any experience with or tips about managing CIPN?
