Remember if you do choose double mastectomy, you do not have to have recon. Many of us don't and are happy flat chested. Take your time x

    Hi there

Please, how many of you Aussies are coming over on the last weekend in November. I would like to get something booked or at least pencilled in this week before I come over your way next weekend. Please PM me if you plan to join the fun.

Doona, it's good you are starting to get a plan in place. I had only the left breast removed, I'm a DD, and did not have reconstruction - never even entered my head. But it might be different for you. Are you younger? What type of cancer did they find? IDC, ILC? I know that ILC can have more of a chance of coming back in the other breast, which might - and I stress might - make a double more appealing.

I didn't have a choice of whether to have a mx or a lx - I had two different cancers in the same breast so a lx wasn't an option.

Looking back after almost four years, I'm glad I didn't have a lx as I would be so anxious that the cancer would come back in the same breast again. But that's me. I did wan't both breasts off when told of my dx, but my breast surgeon talked me out of it. He said the risk of recurrence was so low it wan't worth the extra surgery. I'm still not sure if I'm happy at not having both off - I think I would prefer to be flat chested than lopsided.

Again that's just me. I'm perfectly comfortable with not having had reconstruction  - but some women wouldn't be happy about that at all.

It's got to be your decision, and for some it's a really easy decision to make, for some it's a very hard decision to make.

I hope all goes well with your scan today - let us know how you go.
    Trish

Hi girls well today is a funny day for me 6 years ago I was sitting in shock at the dr's being told I had BC. My wedding anniversary is tomorrow so it was a very horrible week. Doona I ended up having a double mx I had 1 off and the other was only a partial but they found another small cancer so 2 weeks later I went back in for the full mastectomy. It was a total shock at the time but at least the decision was made for me. I was never going to have reconstruction but decided to 18 months later. That was a process that took 2 years   (For various reasons) but I am glad I did it as the result was very good . Best of luck with your decision Judy x

Doona I'm a lefty only.....lol.....had the righty removed at dx.  I'm also a DD and sometimes wish I had had them both removed but thats purely because I hate wearing a bra.  Deciding what is best for you is really hard but if you think you would have trouble adjusting just have the one removed.......the option is always there to have the other removed at a later date if you decide to have recon.

Judy lovely to hear from you!  Happy Anniversary for tomorrow! and Happy Cancerversary for tomorrow also!  Six years.....wow!!

I have been down to see my doc.....again......lol.....and he thinks that the pain I have in my lower back and hip are from bursitis in the hip and jabbed me four times with local and ......oh damn!!!   my brain has farted itself right out the door!!!!  I can't for the life of me remember the name of the drug.......you all probably know it........anyway, I got jabbed four times and it hurt like hell but I must admit it does indeed feel better and hopefully it will improve more over the next couple of days as the inflammation  settles.

The other good news for me is that after forgetting my mobile phone when I left this morning I got home to find a message from the removalist who is delivering my new bed to say that they will be here between 8.30 and 10.30 tomorrow!  Yipee!!! I shall be sleeping in comfort tomorrow night!  To cap it all off, my new blankets and electric blanket arrived in the post this morning so the bed will be dressed as well.  Once I get everything settled and sorted I shall take a pic and post for you all to see.

    Take care all!!!

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

Judy - I was dx the day before my wedding anniversary too! Happy cancerversary (it's good to celebrate now coz it's not come back) and happy anniversary - celebrate another one yay!

Chrissy - I just spat my tea out laughing "my brain has farted itself right out the door" lolololol.  Do you mean cortisone my dear? Good to hear the pain is improving. Great news too that your bed is coming yay! looking forward to seeing it all set up.

Ok - now this is going to be a bit of a gross story. I did a commercial shoot yesterday afternoon that took longer than I thought it would. I called my DH on the way home to say I was on my way, but traffic was bad and I'd still be a while. He said it was ok, in case he'd gone by the time I got home (I forgot it was a night when he went to rehearsals) he'd had dinner and fed the dogs. I asked (a bit taken back coz he's not the best at organising his own dinner) what he'd eaten. He said "oh some mushy thing in the fridge with the rice from last night"  That floored me for at least 10 seconds - what mushy thing???!!! His answer - the bolgnaise I think.

Let me explain - we'd had spag bol at least four if not five weeks ago, and I never used the last of it up and it sat in the fridge - you know how that happens! - and I kept forgetting to throw it out. I couldn't believe he'd rummaged through the fridge - past the leftover stir fry we'd had the night before and chose something that had mould growing on it!!! I mean mould the size of a five cent piece!!

So - when he came home around 3 hours later I asked how he felt. Fine.  This morning? Fine. The man has a cast iron stomach. Why do I bother buying lovely fresh food and feeding him tasty things when he obviously has no taste buds and a stomach that can process anything???!!

im 49 ,50 next month ,go in mon ,my wedding anniversary tues, lol .My breast are huge 12H ,its IDC with positive lymph nodes(i keep saying nymph lodes) ,tumour is 2.5cm ,with irregular shaping ,so lim guessing they will have to take quite a bit .CT and Nuclear scan yesterday was ok ,boring ,but fine, and I'm awaiting the results from that .thx for the feedback ladies

Lol Trish, yes I did mean cortisone.......thanks for that.  Love the story of your DH and his dinner last night.........I can't believe someone cannot taste when there is mold growing on food that should be chucked!........just as well he has a cast iron stomach and gastric system as that really could have made him very ill, so glad to hear he is okay.

Doona if you decided on a single mx you could go for a recon with a reduction on the other side.  Really there are a lot of options out there for you, it just comes down to what you are going to be comfortable with.  Yup, we all get our mords wixed (words mixed) sometimes but we get what you mean.....lol.  Happy Anniversary for Tuesday!!  The CT and Nuclear scans are normal staging procedure and are to make sure the cancer hasn't traveled further than your nodes.    Waiting for test results is always hard as in that waiting period our brains just seem to go into overdrive and take us to places we have no right to be so try to take it easy until you get results.  I always say wait as calmly as possible because if you worry all the time, it could be all for nothing and then it's all a waste of good energy.  Hope Monday goes well for you.

Well THE bed has arrived, promptly at 8.45am this morning........thank goodness we were up early to strip the old beds and get them out before it came.  I must admit I was a little worried about getting legs on and the headboard attached but to my surprise, these two well constructed young guns did it all and by the time they left all I had to do was make it!  Did I say they were well constructed?!  Mmmmm.....not too old to appreciate a good piece (or two).....hahahahaha!  Yes I'm naughty and I know it but I don't care coz I'm old and I can get away with it......lolololol!   Now for the big clean up as I had to move everything in lounge to get the bed in so now I have to clean and put it all back where it was.......ho hum........I guess this is pay back for being naughty, they do say there is no rest for the wicked.

     Have a good day all!

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

trish I can't believe your DH couldn't taste the spag Bol being off my stomach just turns ha ha. Thank you girls for your kind words for both my anniversaries x I have got a friend coming around to talk tomorrow she was diagnosed with a 2.5cm triple neg IDC and 5 other small tumours with hormonal markers. She had the Brac 11 gene but chose to wait and see. I have never heard of someone having so many different cancers. It's nice for people to look at 6 years and have hope for themselves

Just a quick hello from me, and welcome to Doona.

As any of you on Facebook know, i am just overwhelmed with work, two uni subjects and home stuff at the moment. It just doesn't stop and at my 3monthly check (clinical trial) with the oncologist yesterday my blood pressure was way up and my vitamin D way down :-(

I can't come to NZ when you are planning but will be there for Christmas week visiting my Mum and Tony's family. If you are around Alyson maybe we can have coffee? We were there weeken before last but it was to check on Mum and every minute was scheduled.

Anyway, just wanted to drop in and say Hi...

Jenn glad you popped in to say hi as we missed you.  Understand that life gets a little busy at times.

I have finally finished the cabinets for the bedroom so now they are in the room waiting to be dressed but I want to let them sit for another twenty four hours for the paint to get to it's optimum hardness before I put anything on them.

    image

They were the standard old pine cabinets with wooden handles but they look a whole lot different now!.....lol. It was sch a nice day here this morning that I went cruising my yard for things to photograph.

Hi everyone guess what my story is in the beacon!! Sent it in winter time for consideration for the spring issue and they published it! It came out really well I reckon :)

Update on my operation think it may be middle of October. Need to have an MRI scan in the next week or so and then get results (they wanted me to have the scan on the right before my recon). After I get the results they will book the pre operative assessment at the royal Adelaide. The emergency department is still in overflow from some flu patients and other emergency cases so the hospital doesn't have many beds free.

Yay Melp!!!   I'm waiting for my copy of the Beacon and can't wait to read it!  Well done you!!!

Went over to Pirie today for a lunch with the BC ladies over there and the new McGrath Nurse.  It was great and we got to see all the new stuff from Amoena....all the styles of foobs available and the new pretty style bras, pyjamas, sportswear and a few day wear items.......can I say it was great?!.....lol.  I also got to shoot some great shots with the camera as well.  The light was just right on the way home.

    Beautiful shots Chrissy!

We have the Amoena rep from Victoria, booked for our November meeting, to see what's new too. Is there anything you really liked?  I love the Amoena clothing with the bra built in.

Moira, I loved the jacket and cowl neck top.......they are lovely!  Light but warm and perfect for traveling.  A couple of the swim wear were to die for, not sure they would look good on a fatty (like me) but gorgeous none the less and some of the bra were amazing in their styling.  Some really bright colors as well.  The shelf cami is a stunner.....so soft as it has bamboo in it and I would love two or three of them.....lol.  You sure are going to enjoy seeing the whole range of goodies!

I am looking forward to seeing that range. I bought the long black dress and the tunic top with pallazzo pants and the jackets from the last range and I wear the camisole or a t shirt with the bra and pockets in them most days. They are so comfortable and although they can take a silicone form, I usually wear a weighted foam form, these days. It feels like I am wearing nothing. It doesn't irritate anywhere and looks good under a cardigan or jacket.

There is a wonderful seller in Queensland who is a mobile fitter, but she also has an online business. She will send down whatever you are interested in, with a return post bag, for the items you don't want. Her prices are really good and she has great deals on last years swimwear. It is traceyg.com. Lovely lady and very helpful. She also sells forms for less than most stores so we aren't out of pocket too much with the Government rebate.

There is a seller in the US who has been selling the Amoena pj's and athletic wear, for next to nothing, so I just bought lots of those too, at about $10.00 an item it's a bargain.

Wow Moira!  Who is that seller in the US?  I wouldn't mind checking out her range.  I'll also check out the Qld one.......I'm all for saving a few dollars which means that in the long run, I can buy more!  Nothing wrong with the way my mind works........lol.

Chrissy it is Bigyellow9. on USA ebay, not a huge amount left now, it has been selling there for a while now, but still some pj's and nighties with light jackets to match and the yoga pants and athletic tops.  Metromedicalonline is another US site that I buy from. They have some colors in the amoena camisoles for $27.00 ($75.00 here) at the moment and bras for under $20.00. They have great sales.

Thanks Moira I shall check them out.

I just checked them out and was going to order a couple of things to the value of $76 US then got to the checkout and the freight was ......now get this......$143 US.  What I ordered was 2 cami tops!  I promptly emptied that shopping cart and won't bother going back again!  Phew!  Talk about expensive camis they will cost a lot less from here.  Thanks anyway.

That's terrible Chrissy! I should have mentioned, I have an account with MyUs where I buy over there and have it sent to Florida, usually it is free post or minimal amount, where they hold the items till I get a few together and I have them sent every month. It is always cheaper than if I was to purchase here. I'd be happy to add yours to the order if you like and post them on when they arrive.

Doona - so glad to hear that your scans were clear! That's a wonderful first step. I'll be thinking of you on Monday  (((hugs))))

    Mel - great article Smile

Chrissy - the bedside tables look fabulous - you are amazing. Now - about the photos .... Wow - you have a really good eye! The one of the blossoms especially - I don't know if you know much about composition, or if you are just a natural, but you nailed it! There's something in photography called "the rule of thirds" and that's what you've done with the blossoms. You need to learn how to focus on the right "part" of the photo, for instance I would have made one of the open blossoms a bit more prominent and more in focus, but .... my you have got a natural talent there and as you practice you'll get better and better xoxo

Ariom very kindly offered to let me use your US shipping account - but I got sidetracked with other things and never got around to ordering anything from the US. Chrissy - it would be a good way to save money. Ariom you are a gem Smile

Have a great weekend ladies - I've been very lazy this morning just sitting on the lounge reading and drinking coffee like a true lady of leisure. I'd best get my bum into gear and do something.

Chrissy - has the new bed arrived yet?

Went to the surgeon yesterday and he was quite impressed. I've achieved 125 degree bend on my knee. I'm walking well but my pinched nerve is limiting what I do. Going to the physio and got some Lyrica and will have 2 more weeks off work, so we can this back fixed. I have actually felt normal over the last few days walking around the house and yard. I'm starting to appreciate having done it.
