Tammy, that's fantastic news that we will be running probably around the same time in different cities (except I will be walking, lol) ... take your time in the run. I always was a slow runner and did the 12k in just over one and a half hours and I would watch the fast runners running back while I was still running hehe. I think that you should be able to complete yours a lot quicker of course possible closer to the hour.., just dont start flat out, and keep a good rhythm.  Drink plenty of water during the run and enjoy the atmosphere!! xx

Mandy, my mum rubs coconut oil on cracks in her feet and other lesions, wind chafting on her lips. lile wind burn and she sclrosis on her arms and it soothed it and helped the rashes go and she has no lesions on her arms at all. i think you can buy at health shops, supermarkets. use it for cooking too, Blue coconut the brand is and come in buckets. you could google it. if you interested.

Welcome Doona. Hope your consultation with Dr Pyke was OK.

I must say though, that if you didn't like him, find another surgeon.

I had his partner Wetzig and he was a total a-hole. The best in Brissy is Melinda Cook - she operates at the Wesley and North West- now she is a human being and also a fantastic surgeon who has actually offered to fix up the scar that Wetzig left. That says a lot doesn't it.

Chrissy - I've got 15 degrees bend now- is that good? Not doing well with this pinched nerve in that hip - not sleeping at all. Drugs don't help so I spend the nights dozing and crying. I can do the stairs without crutches now too.

Sue did you mean 150 degrees?  If so, that is not good it's damned fantastic!!!!! Are you doing the stair one leg leading?  Getting up and down stairs without crutches is real progress.  Have you asked your doc about Gabapentin (Neurontin) or Lyrica?  They are nerve blocking meds and I take them for pinched nerves in my back which radiate to my hip and leg.  Without them I cannot sleep, walk or function because of the pain.......they do take a little while for your system to get used to and you feel a little light headed and sleepy but that doesn't last long and they really do help with the pain.

Tammy and Mandy I don't know where you get your energy!  You go girls!!!

Mandy I'm so glad that you are able to take a break from the Xeloda to give your system a chance to heal.  You have done so well so far and I hope it can continue.  Yes, the StageIV Forum was really good and I'm sure many of the women who were there left feeling much better about their journey.  I found the Psych talk very interesting and she gave great tools to the women with young children to allow them to cope with what is happening.

Trish your weekend sounds really busy but in a good way. That ball sounds like a fantastic event but $1000 a ticket?  Wow!!!  There must be a lot of people able to give that much if they have about two hundred people going.  What a fun night!

We are still getting the freezing nights but the days are clear and warming ........ slightly.....lol.  I am tempted to take the camera and go for a drive....maybe tomorrow as I have a lot to do today.  Mandy the shopping experience exhausted me.....lol......I haven't walked so far and left with so little in a very long time.

I bought a new king size bed while down in the city this time but I had no linen or blankets to fit so I went on the hunt.  I got sheets but the blanket department was a disaster.  I was looking for a light weight but warm blanket almost like a polar fleece but all I found were pure wool, nice but impractical, and feather doonas which I'm not a fan of as I can't loft them to get them in a cover.  So after visiting ten stores and walking so far that in the end I could barely get in and out of the car I gave up, went to Spotlight and bought meters of beautiful polar fleece in the colour I wanted and I will make my own blankets!!....lol.   That's the problem with wanting warm things at the end of the season according to the shops but the weather is still demanding them........looks like I will be spending a few hours at the sewing machine.

Oh, I almost forgot, I have ten days to get my bedroom cleaned out and sorted (I have so much crap in there that it's just not funny anymore) and rearranged in order to accommodate the new bed!  HELP!!!!!!  Wish my girls were closer as I know they would keep me well and truly motivated to keep going once I start and that must be soon.......lol.

Must go, as I said above there is a lot to keep me occupied and sitting here on the computer is just not getting it done!....lol

Take care all and have a great weekend!

    Love n hugs all!   Chrissy

Sue that's great!!!  keep up the good work you will be moving really freely before you know it!

I'm walking up and down stairs normally now with no pain at all so that's a good thing and I'm hopefully going to start doing some walks to get some more strength in my legs now the weather is getting a little bit warmer.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

I'm doing the stairs one at a time but can do one flight one leg after the other. I'm going to see the GP on Monday re the heart medication and will ask about meds for the nerve pain. The big problem is that it gives me pain all down that leg, but it's obvious it's not coming from the new knee as it's OK if I sit up and hang my leg over the side of the bed. I think my regular physio is away and even if he wasn't, I'm not in any condition to undergo my normal treatment.

Sue the nerve pain is probably from your back as that is where mine in coming from and yes, it goes all the way to my foot!  The Lyrica works fabulously in sorting that nerve pain out so do ask your doc about it or one of the others in the same family.  So good that you are already doing the stairs one for after the other......I didn't do that until about three weeks ago and then it wasn't the whole flight but only about three or four steps.  I have finally graduated to doing both flights one after the other.  My knee is still feeling 'full' but I know from the other one that this will take almost a year before I won't notice it.  I have noticed that now I have two metal knees I tend to click sometimes when I walk.....lol......sort of making my own music as I move.....hahahaha!

LOL - I've noticed the new knee clicks just like the left one, so they match.

Also, I'm not using the crutches at all around the house except for going to the loo at night - for safety's sake.

BTW - it seems to be healing nicely

Doona - I think Pyke has a good reputation - hope the apt goes OK. It will be interesting to see how long you have to wait for surgery. A friend of ours was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had to wait 3 months for public surgery - I hope you get seen to really quickly.

lol Last night we brought Goldie in, she is  a big dog, to have a cuddle on the bed with us for about an hour, she can be quite over excited at times and then she wanted out, well hubby took her out to chain her up and she took off, over the gate and  hubby after her and took off down the road, and then he got a big wolf whistle, he was only in his teashirt and undies, from this car full of young people, i think he had forgotten with the rush to catch the dog, he grabbed her by collar. but i think he was quite embarrssed, to be running down main road in his undies, lol, i would of never been able to catch her. so i said, you better leave your long pants ontil you get her chained after this. lol so you don't get unwanted attention. lol.  a real minties moment.

Annette that is hilarious!!!!   I'm sitting here with tears running down my face.....lol.... my imagination is running wild!

Well I have started on cleaning things out in the bed room, I thought it a good opportunity to get rid of clothes that are too small and have been for a long time but I've kept them in the hope of getting into them.  Reality has hit me and I'm doing the deed and sending them to the op shop.  The new bed will be here on the 9th or 10th Sept so not too long get get thing organised in there.  I can't wait for it to arrive as I remember the comfort of it each time I get into my present bed.....lol.....I won't know myself as it will be the first 'new' bed we have had for about twenty years and the beds we have now were my mum and dads.  Can't wait!!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and the weather is kind to you.  Still sunny here but very windy which tells me that tomorrow will probably be wet as we only get this heavy wind when it is blowing in the wet weather.

    Love n hugs all!   Chrissy

Have just created a thread called Rae's Angel on the Angel Threads. If
you knew Rae (Raeinnz) please go and post a message for her and when we have
several I will let her know to go and look. Her 24 yr old daughter was knocked down by a car and died later.

    Morning girls

How is everyone going? It's been a bit quiet here the past week or so, is everyone ok?

Aly - so sorry to hear about Rae, horrible news for her.

I'm going well - have just received some "super" probiotics from a UK firm. Some IBS sufferers have said it's reset their gut, so I'm giving it a go lol.

Beautiful spring morning here, sun is shining, trees are blossoming and the birds are singing SillyHeart

    Hi girls!

Trish I've been busy, busy, busy........lol.  I bought a new bed last week and then needed to do the proverbial clean out and rearrange in the bedroom.......I'm half way there.....lol......I took about eight bags to the op shop yesterday before heading down to the city to pick up a couple of bedside cabinets that I bought on ebay for $90.  They are just the ordinary three drawer pine cabinets but a couple of coats of pain and some new handles they will come up a treat and the price was perfect for my budget even with the paint and prep stuff.  Beside all that, I had to go shopping for all the trimmings for the bed as we are going from singles to king size and I had no linen or blankets...........gee I love the internet and online shopping.  I wore myself out looking for the things I wanted but found nothing other that the sheets........a few hours online and I have it all, electric blanket, comfy mattress topper, light weight blankets and a doona......now I wait for them all to be delivered and next week is it .........Guess what?  yup, a busy weekend painting for me........lol.

Once it is don and all arranged I'll see if I can get some decent shots to show you all.

    Take care all.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

Chrissy - you have been busy! It's nice doing a room over though isn't it!

I keep meaning to tell you and Sue - I have a facebook friend in the US who just had a knee replacement. I think he's in his late 40's early 50's or somewhere around there, and he's been posting pics and videos of his progress. Now I could hardly believe this myself, but the day after the op he was up and walking around as if there was nothing wrong with his knee at all - walking completely normally! I was staggered, but even more staggered that he went home that day - that's the day after the op. He has physio, and he says that's a bit hard, but from what you see in the video it looks like he never had an op.

I wonder what they do differently over there? Or maybe he's just one of those freaks of nature lol.

    Trish

Trish - they might have done less invasive surgery ie small 2 inch cuts - they do it here but my surgeon prefers to use a camera to get a good view of the inside of the knee so the new parts are placed correctly - I originally wanted the smaller cuts but after researching, I went with the camera placement - much more accurate.

    Hi Sue

No - I saw the pics of his leg while he was in bed - I can't remember how many cuts there were - but they were much much longer than 2" - they went from below the knee up to past his knee on either side. Even next to his "good" leg there didn't even seem to be much swelling.

Mine and Chrissy's have one big long cut from above the knee to below the knee. It does sound like he had the new procedure done - not sure where I got 2 inches from but the traditional one is one big long cut in the middle.

have updated on my other thread . But here's the news from yesterday. saw the surgeon yesterday , have a full body and bone scan booked for mon and have the op the following mon . Surgeon seems to think lumpectomy with removal of lymph nodes , will be ok but has left the decision re mastectomy up to me ,will have 6 months of chemo afterwards . If i choose mastectomy he would like to do a double one , however he said there was very little difference in the reoccurrence rates . How do people decide , I keep changing my mind

Doona - how big is the tumour - do they know. There's no reason why a lumpectomy wouldn't be fine, except you will have to have radiation treatment. Personally I'd rather that (done it twice) than going through the whole reconstruction process etc associated with a mastectomy. It's much nastier surgery than a lumpectomy.

he was lovely , was in there over an hour until he was called to surgery , I asked him what he would advise and his advice would be not to make a decision there and then .
