Annette, great to read another of your stories! You must be feeling better which is wonderful!
I've been missing for awhile, busy with work and trying to get fit. I did a 5k track run a few weeks ago and on the day decided I should try to beat "Dot" who I noticed was 72..... well, I was no match for Dot...she took it at a cracking steady pace and ran in a time of 29 min!! On the other hand I started too fast and had to take a walk part way through....still it was a PB and there is always next year to meet up with the amazing Dot!
Take care everyone

Just a quick question, do any of you ladies know when the chemo curls start to settle down? My hair has grown back with these really tight ugly curls and when I try to straighten them out they start to go frizzy. I know it's only a small price to pay but I really hope it starts to settle down soon. It's been exactly a year since my last chemo.0

Hi everyone,
Welcome Tania... My hair was always thick and curly so it grew back no different than it was. I'm probably not the one to give you advice on that I'm afraid :-)
My Mum's unit sold at auction in February for $95,000 over what I had hope it would go for. We, including the auctioneer, were all very shocked. The deposit was released last week so I was able to pay the overdue dementia unit fees for February and pay the March bill on time thank goodness. I am flying back over to Auckland in two weeks for a day and a 1/2 to sort out the rest of the money which will come into her account just before then.
My last apt with the oncologist went OK. I think I already told you all that my scans (annual for the D-Care Study I am on) all came back with no concerns, except worsening degenerative changes in my right shoulder. But I could have told them that without a scan :-/
For the person that asked - my oncologist does full blood count and a vitamin D testing once a year outside of the regular study bloods I do every 3 months.
Annette - sorry to read that you were in hospital. And very glad to see you come back in here sounding pretty healthy.
regards Jenn

Tania, I also had curly hair pre chemo, so can't help a lot. I did notice when it came in after chemo it was a lot curlier though - I had these little ringlets all over my head lol.
Looking after curls is a bit different to straight hair - don't brush your hair, you need one of those really big gap teeth combs. If you brush or use a fine tooth comb it will make the curls frizzy. You can also get some product that will help tame the curls a bit. I use a KMS product, only because I'm not allergic to it and it works lol. Good luck, maybe one of our straight haired sisters will chime in soon.
Jenn - good news about the sale of your mum's unit - that must be a relief.
Chrissy - how's the trip planning going?

Tania - I'm an expert on chemo frizz - I had to wash my hair every day for 2 years until my hairdresser told me about Cacau - it's a brazillian keratin treatment - quite expensive but worth every cent - I now have gorgeous hair - not dead straight - it gets a natural kick at the ends. This treatment gave me my life back!!!! I get it done every 7 months or so. It seems to last longer for me than some.
Hi to everyone - I do come and read but haven't posted for ages.

Had my breast MRI on Tuesday before seeing my onc on the 20th of this month- all clear yay! I've decided though, that I'm never having another breast MRI unless it's absolutely necessary. I had my first one done two years ago and I was allergic to the dye - threw up all over the brand new MRI machine lol.
When I went on Wednesday, I reminded them that I was allergic to the dye, and they had no record of my previous scan grrr... So - they said they'd use a dye that almost never caused a reaction and they'd push it through really slowly to minimise the effects. It was fine for the first five minutes (an improvement on last time, that took around 10 seconds) but I started to feel really, really unwell. I was about to push the panic button when the scan stopped. I didn't actually throw up, but was about to and was sweating so much I was actually lying in a pool of sweat. When the nurse got me up, she was amazed, she said I was actually green! lol I told her well that's exactly how I felt.
It didn't take too long to get back to normal, thank goodness, but unless a mamo or an u/s shows something, no more breast MRIs for me!
Hope everyone else is good
Trish

Trish, a clear result is the most important thing yay! I can understand your desire to save the mri for a "must have" situation.....does green suit you

Lol Tammy - well I have been known to wear green, and quite like it, but a green face not so much

Poor you, Trish, that's horrible. So glad it passed quickly for you and you had a good result!

Oh you poor thing Trish, what a horrible ordeal to go through. The main thing is you got a clear result. Thanks everyone for your tips on how to manage these horrible chemo curls and Suziequ60 I'll give that treatment a try.0

Tania - it costs me $220 but I was quoted $500 somewhere else - so shop around - I know it's expensive but worth it!!!

Hi girls, i was watching a programme the other night called rapid response and it was to do mainly with a ambulance services, any way there was this poor girl who was having chronic back pain, and could not bear it any longer, anyway it turns out she lumps in her breasts and was told for six years, from her thirties and she went to the docs and they said to her, probably nothing, she did not say whether any tests were done, apart from feeling the lump and six years later, they finally gave in and tested her and yes she had breast cancer, she had all the surgery and chemo, etc, now she in hospice, or was in there at time programme been filmed, with spinal mets and not long to go. six years they said, probably nothing. man that sucks, dont know whether her gp did not want to be bothered or they thought it wont be cancer at her age, these days breast cancer is evident in 20 year olds. what the hell is wrong with her doctor. makes me mad when i hear neglect like that of oh thats nothing. now she is suffering and that could of been advoided as said, on the programme.
She is accepting of it and has a wonderful attitude, but her family are not dealing with it so well, its hard to know what you would do as a parent, but i think mine would of come with me and pushed it, but then at her age, she may not of wanted that. i felt sad for her.+
a bit cooler than last night. phew it was diabolical. so uncomfortable.

All done now, tickets bought, accommodation in Paris booked both coming and going, car hire booked, accommodation in Brive-La-Gaillarde and Cahors booked......yay!!!! The only thing left to do is get the train tickets from Paris to Brive and Cahors back to Paris but we can't do that until July......that is when they do the new timetable apparently. Yup, six weeks away leaving 15th September and arriving home on the 28th October........I am so going to be giving my camera a huge work out!!!

Hi Chrissy - the knee is great BUT my back is another story - spinal stenosis - can't walk more than 200 metres - pain in soles of feet and down back of the legs.
I'm jealous you are going to France - I want to come
0 -
Chrissy.. Your France holiday sounds wonderful. We visited France for a few days when we did our Europe holiday 3 years ago but I would of loved to have had longer there. We went on one of those Cosmos Tours which is excellent for seeing lots of places.. But it's exhausting!! I felt like I needed a holiday when we got back.!! I was wondering if you are still planning to go ahead with reconstruction.??
Hi to everyone else here. 😃

Oh Sue don't you just hate it when you fix one thing and another acts up. Can the docs do anything for your back?
Lucy, I have an appointment with a Plastic Surgeon on the 31st of this month do I guess the persuance of a recon will depend on what she says. I have everything crossed that the visit will be a good one............I will let you all know the outcome.
Must get on as I have still a few things that need doing before I leave for the city.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Surgery is a possibility but not always successful - not going down that path at this stage.

Morning all
Mammo done and all good. MRI done and should get results early next week. Gosh how I hate being in those machines. Felt so weird afterwards I went and treated myself at Crafty Knitwits in Milford. I love that place but should never go there as the wool and fabric wave at me and insist I buy things. And of course they make great coffee.
Don't think I have told you that I am knitting a shawl. We have another grandchild due at the beginning of August. DS and DDiL will find out what it is going to be on Tuesday. I think I would rather have a surprise. Will post pictures if the shawl as I get further on.
Had better get dressed as I have a report to write today.
Big hugs

My BS's words: no mets but you back is crap. We both laughed till we cried.
0 -
Yay Aly!!! Woohoo!!!!!! Happy dancing for you right now!!! Back being crap is sooooo much better than mets even though it is just as painful........sure hope you can get something done to sort the pain side of things. OMG! I'm just so happy that it's not mets!!
Lfe n hugs hugs. Chrissy

That's excellent news Aly, but this is the only place that we can say "Gee that's great news, that your back is stuffed!" well, you know what we mean, so much better than mets! I do hope you can find some meds or treatment, that will relieve the pain for you.
Went to see the Second Best Marigold Hotel this week, if you're thinking of going, I recommend it. Maggie Smith and Judy Dench are wonderful, I actually enjoyed it more than the first one. There is a good chance you will be able to see it on the plane Chrissy. I do love a good movie while I am flying, this one goes for 2 hours!

Melp, fantastic that you are getting close to normal!
Aly, happy dance for you! Many of us "live" with a stuffed back!
Ariom, I was wondering about that movie. DH is away for work next week....maybe a visit to the cinema is on the cards

Hi Tammy, it has had mixed reviews, but for me, a great "chick flick", I went with a group of ladies and we all loved it.

Hi Girls, thought i would tell you a joke, but first of all congrats on yr mrii Aly and glad things looking up for you Melp.
ok joke. A mexican man was having a siesta one day and a tourist walks up to him and asked him the time, the mexican lifted up his donkeys tail and said, its half eleven, and the tourist walks away.
Al ittle time passes and the tourist walks up to mexican and asked for the time again, and again the mexican lifts the donkeys tail and said its half twelve and again the tourist walks off, only to return sometime later and repeats the same question, of what time it was and mexican again lifts the donkeys tail and tells the tourist, it was quarter after 2, the tourist said, to the mexican. you are right again, but how do you know the time from lifting the donkeys tail,?
The mexican answerd him and said, EVERY TIME I LIFT THE DONKEYS TAIL, I CAN SEE THE TOWN CLOCK. lol
That is it. it amused me,--------small things ----- lol

Hi all
I had my mammo done on Wednesday, I go and see the Doctor on the 24th for my annual check up. Funnily enough a friend from work whose Mother has had breast cancer had her mammo too on Wednesday, and her Mum is in Scotland !!!
It's actually raining here at the moment, we are meant to get a bit of bad weather over the next few days from that cyclone that's coming down from the top of WA.
On Monday I start 2 weeks holiday from work, I can't wait.
Carol
