I want to throw my mets into the fire. I also want to throw the chemo and all of the meds and the sickness that goes along with it. I know the chemo and meds are to help me get better but I could do without the side effects. I'd throw my tears in the fire but it would put the fire out.

Veggy - You must remember this is a magical healing fire. Your tears won't put it out so go ahead and throw them in - it will make you feel better. If I could, I would come be by your sider and try to comfort you right now. Sending virtual healing hugs sweetie.

Just got back to my home. Finally got power. Was staying at a friend's home. she wasnt home and i turned her home into a bed and breakfast. Bless her for sharing her home! Have terrific roofer who repaired my roof while I was gone. Attic fan blew off roof and took shingles with it. Couple of trees down that still need to be removed. Luckily, no other damage. My close friend had to wait 24 hours for the water to recede before she could get out of her house. Street collapsed. Had to walk a half mile to be rescued. Daughter and beloved coming to stay by me because their apartment building's lobby is ruined along with the rest of their barrier island community. His parents' home is also flooded. Guess they might be staying with me too.
Veggy... My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you find comfort in knowing that we keep you in our thoughts. While I was away, I worried about all our sisters who are in active treatment and have had difficulty getting treatment.
I am grateful today, more grateful than yesterday and look forward to roasting marshmallows for all to enjoy tomorrow. Life is sweet and also good.0 -

Has any one read or heard how many people will not be able to vote tomorrow b/c of lack of access b/c of the storm. I just read the Wiki section on"Voters rights". Natural disistaers are not covered. Ergo, through no fault of their own citizens will be disenfranchised. This could dramatically affect the outcome of the presidential ellection and local & state. The constituition covers homeless people, but they had to register as a homeless person in the prescribed time before the election. Plus, the displaced people aren't homeless( even if there home is gone), That's not meant to sound funny or perjorative. How many registered voters can't get to there polling site?
I wonder if the President could issue an Executive order to extend the election. This situation has never occured before. Hmm another mess Sandy has gotten us into.
For those states affected, however this election is determined, will be subject to challenge as the Florida fiasco of the hanging chads.

note sent to Whitehouse
Constituition does not provide for an extention of an election because of a natural disastaer, that prevents voters from accessing their polling site. Are those voters then condidered disenfranchised?
Can the President issue an Exectuive Order extending the voting time deadline. This is unprecendented, but so is this occurrence. It's in no ones disaster plan.0 -
Hi all,
Last night I was half asleep and put a post up but today I see it didn't go....will try to briefly remember....
Sheila, you asked about my storm experience....not bad. I lost power Mon - Thurs but just 2 of us and we had all we needed. Including 5 days off from work. Back today -- am exhausted already.
Gas lines started last Thursday. DH and I had gas...I decided to drive to NJ to deliver fancy doll cake (princess Belle) to my dearest grandaughter (5 yrs)...no traffic at all - so weird on a Friday afternoon in NY. NJ was hit hard inland with wind. Most power out still...my DD#3 was not amused (has 22 mo. old) but they had generator, heat, fridge, hot water, lites downstairs....Son in law works for Rockland/Orange Power Co. so was doing 12 hour shifts 7 days/week leaving DD to run the generator. Don't feel too badly for her...she works and has a nanny all day...We had a wild and fun birthday party out at a club and all the moms were sooo happy to get out of the house after 5 days of "camping". I came home somewhat exhausted...but made it round trip on less than 3/4 tank of gas. We are good with the gas now, but the lines are awful out there.Re: election - yes, executive orders are possible for extending the voting. Gov. of NY issued one saying that any "displaced" voters could vote at any polling place by affadavit.
This whole thing is upsetting to me, because this opens up fraud opportunities and most likely a heavily contested election. When did this all get some complex?
Granny, still in Brooklyn? If you are bored, hop on a train (if you can find one) and head out this way.
I hope that soon you will be able to get back into your home and then off to visit your GGs and the rest of the family. Hey, you deserve to be spoiled for your BD...hope you get to celebrate when you go to PA.
Happy Birthday Granny!Wishing you many happy and healthy years ahead for you and your family. You deserve it.Veggy, am thinking of you every day...and praying that your body will remain strong through treatment. bc really sux and I wish you didn't have to go through any of this. (((Veggy)))
I hope anyone here who was affected by the storm or gas crisis, especially those in treatment, will soon find resolutions to these inconveniences. I am happy to have my home and family safe.
Hugs,Joan0 -
there is some provision for their voting . whish I had looked in earlier.
Update sandy:
To help with such concerns, Cuomo signed an order Monday allowing affidavit voting. Basically, what that means is that voters registered in a federally declared disaster county can vote at any poll site in the state by signing an affidavit.
"We want everyone to vote. Just because you're displaced doesn't mean you should be disenfranchised," the governor said.
Voters in some New York counties may get an extra day to cast ballots if disruptions caused by Sandy prevent enough citizens from voting, a state official said Sunday. New Jersey announced that residents displaced by Sandy can vote in Tuesday's elections via e-mail or fax, the first time civilians in the state have been allowed to vote remotely.

Thanks, Sassy...good idea to post experiences. I have to get through this next storm tomorrow first....(I work from 8 AM to 9 PM plus commute). It shouldn't be terrible, but could uproot trees and put lites out again. East end(my end) getting higher winds.
I hope everyone here is OK...just so nice to have such caring, intelligent, sincere and accepting friends on this thread.
Hugs,

I heard a guy from NJ power on public radio yesterday. He said they've removed 45,000 trees so far to get at downed power lines to fix them. Mutual aid - help from other power co's - is coming in from all across the country. They interviewed a guy from California who was flown in witha crew on a military cargo plane, trucks and all. I know WI sent several hundred workers. Wish it could go faster for y'all. ((hugs))
Think of all those trees on the bonfire!

I know WA shipped out crews and power company trucks on a military transport last week. This is just a massive area of destriuction. I hope we don't forget the area before it is restored. I won't.

My heart goes out to those on the East Coast. I hope the people can get their power turned back on soon and that they can get back to normal.
Haven't checked in lately. Finally finished with recon and am going great. No pains, no more doctor appts - Yea! I can plan my days without having to work appts in the mix. My next appt is not until Dec and that is my what I now call my routine 6 month MO visit and will also have to see my PCP. PCP visit is a walk in the park. Hope everyone is having a good start to the weekend.

Eventually we will hear the numbers of helpers that came from all over the country. I wonder if anyone came from around the world.
One of the Sandy updates, was related to the reaction of the United Nations. May be I was a little reactionary, but they seemed to be forgetting that what happened wasn't just about them. Very self centered. Their complaints were ridiculous in some cases. For example, their cars got flood in the basement. Duh what did the think was going to happen? That the wall of water was just going to go around them? Suggest you google it Sandy update and U.N.
Hello everyone HOpe You Are all dry with lights on sassy

Here is a way to help. I have a friend in Virginia, she has a friend in New Jersey, the friend has a van and drove down to Virginia. Friends in Virginia amassed supplies for NewJersey, loaded them in the van and took them back to NewJersey for their church to distribute them. I sent rubber gloves and heavy duty trash bags via Amazon. They were received in Virginia in two days. It is one way to help from afar.
Just a thought but maybe you know someone you can hook up with.

Jo, so glad you are able to focus on your life and be done with the appointments.
Today was a nice day - sunny, cool - some snow on the ground at my job but mainly a "normal" day where I was. It is hard to believe what people are going through. I still have not been to the beach to check out the damage.
DD in NJ was lites out with 2 little ones and her DH working 12 hour shifts 12 days straight now for the power company. Last Saturday about 30 trucks and workers from Georgia power company pulled in to their high school parking lot and got to work. Her power went on the next day. These guys really know what they are doing.
It upsets me that the NY gov has harshly criticized the power companies when so many are working round the clock and risking their lives to remove trees and restore the lines. The one thing the companies could do is be honest with the local people and explain the problems that are being faced.Gas is rationed even/odd license plates - out east, lines are much shorter.
Thinking about everyone who has not shown up here recently - sending positive thoughts.
Have a good week end
Joan0 -
Joan... Regarding the hard working people trying to restore power being harshly criticized by the governor.... I can't agree more with you! IMHO, it is posturing and he is just stirring the pot and making my neighbors just more frustrated and angrier. Now is NOT the time for this display from the governor! Some of my neighbors marched over to LIPA to display unity and show their anger at the lack of information. They appeared in Newsday on the 6th day of the recovery. If my memory serves me correct, we were told to plan for 7-10 days without utilities AND we were told to evacuate! They had no business being in their homes for at least 10 days and especially not being in their homes on the 9th day when the second storm hit and people were mandated to evacuate the SECOND time. Newsday is reporting how antiquated the utility is. How noble of them! Why didn't they and the politicians make investigating the utility a priority sooner... Say a few years ago OR AFTER HURRICANE IRENE? Postering, I tell you! Every one of them! And then I am left to deal with these princesses who ONLY don't have electricity! My best friend's home is demolished and she and her husband nearly lost their lives in the surge! My daughter and her beloved are now living with me because their building in Long Beach in uninhabitable, just like much of the town. The in-laws home is destroyed as well. I expect them here soon as well.
I wish these politicians could show more grace and not buy into the frenzy. We need leadership now! Not finger pointing...0 -
Oh...BTW... I just returned to my home yesterday and count my blessings that between my roof and tree damage, it has only cost me $3k. Life is good.
