Hey! Where is everybody? This thread has been super quiet.
Hope everyone is having a safe, fun Labor Day Weekend.

Just got home from a weekend at my mom's house. Crazy busy, no time for internet. Played peacemaker between some warring family members, was moderately successful. At least they are speaking to each other and no one is dead, LOL!
Canned pickles! I got 14 pints, first pickles I have done in 30 years. They look great, all the jars sealed. Not sure if they taste ok - mom said the vinegar/spices was fine, but my taster is all out of whack on this afinitor, and it just tasted bitter and odd and metallic to me. Hopefully this will improve again - this little SE seems to come and go, along with the mouth sores and skin rash and dry mouth. Tossing in SEs again!!!!! Burn, baby, burn!
I am tossing in fear tonight. I have had pain over my ribs for the last couple of weeks in one spot (I usually have lots of diffuse rib pains, but this is very localized) and it SEEMS like it is swollen and may have a mass underneath - I thought I could actually feel a border between the "mass" and other tissue. Hoping it is my imagination gone wild. See the MO tomorrow, trying not to let my brain run away with fear and anxiety tonight. Will get some answers tomorrow. Need to focus on NOW. Right NOW I am sitting on my back porch, windows open, a slight breeze, crickets and other night insects playing a concert just for me. The sky is cloudy, lightning bugs all over the place. Having a moment of gratitude despite the uncertainty of tomorrow.0 -
Linda - Sorry you are having to go through this. Hope there is a simple, B9 answer to the rib pain. Please do let us know.

Well, MO said she thinks it is a major muscle spasm, and see my massage therapist tomorrow! Yaaayy!!!!
On the other hand, she wants me to discontinue afinitor, have a chest CT to see if there is lung damage. Crap. (oops - can I say that here???)
So, CT next week, see her the week after, start Xgeva, see what's next. I am just a bit tired of all this (OK, THAT was an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!).0 -
Linda... Glad to hear your "good" news!
VR is sorry Summer is drawing to a close! Can we just throw Fall and Winter on the fire and get back to Spring again?0 -
Linda - LOL! Yes, you can say crap here. Good to hear it is a muscle spasm but sorry you are still having to deal with doctors. HUGS
VR - I am so looking forward to fall and winter. We have had such a hot summer and frankly I am sick of it. If you are in the north, I know you haven't had much of a summer. If you want heat, come see me!!

Jo.... I'll be in Texas later this month and then Florida.... Trying to ride the rest of the nice weather until Winter bears down...

VR - I am 5 1/2 hours south of Austin. Texas is such a BIG state. If I was still in San Antonio, I would drive over and try to meet up with you.

May I join in to feed the flames? Not much really shocks me anymore but i would like to throw in the inappropriate comments made to me during the funeral of one of my BILs. While waiting for the service to start, a sil tapped me on the shoulder inquiring about my health. I wont go into details but it has really upset me at how some folks have such a lack of respect for others. She just kept asking all these very personal question after question and would not stop until she began asking about my nipples. She giggled and asked "Did you get tatoos?"....my BIL (not her husband or brother) was being buried in a couple of hours and she wants to talk about my nipples....
burn baby burn...
Thank you for letting me vent and throw that in. I feel better already.0 -
Wingnut - Seriously? The nerve of some people. How inappropriate was that? I hope you told her in no uncertain terms that you will not discuss your treatment or for that matter your health. It really is none of her business. I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you. Come back to this magical fire anytime and throw in anything you need to. During the winter months, we have been known to join up around the fire and share some hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The expression on my husband's face was priceless. I quietly spoke a few words and turned my back on her. That pretty much hushed her.
I hope everyone has a comfortable and restful evening.
Hot chocolate, yummmm. Thanks!0 -
I need to hang out by the fire awhile...
DD is moved and I am moving away from being depressed and very sad. I think getting to visit them after they moved in and seeing the kids doing their normal things really helped.
Jo, I love winter...after having allergies almost 6 months out of the year, I enjoy when the plants die. Our winter is damp and cool but not terrible. I like to walk outside when it's in the 30s/40s.
So, I don't know whether to throw in marriage difficulties (my daughters) or to just toss in marriage since it is so often impossible....I just wish people could get along.
I am wanting to freeze the clock at a happy time about 8-9 years ago...but I can't.
Time to make a new happy, I guess!0 -
Joan... NO! NO! NO! You don't want to go back in time when there were happier moments in your family's lives. One door closes and the next one opens bringing new life to life's complexities. Always remember, where there's life, there's hope and we all have within ourselves to be happy. We need to work each day at finding our own personal happiness. Erich Fromm mentions in his classic humanistic book, The Art of Loving, how the word love is a verb... To love. When a word is a verb... it requires action... it requires work... I've learned that every day I need to work at loving and at being happy. Before you know it, as you move forward being happy and being in love, it creates it's own personal environment within you and outside of yourself.
I try to concentrate on not looking back to find happiness. I work on the now and later. Looking back and not concentrating on now and later will only bring heartache and distract you! While your family may be suffering now, you might still look back in a decade from now and say, "Wow, who knew that things would turn out so well?" For sure, as mothers we are only happy as our least happiest child, but that doesn't stop us from having resiliency to appreciate the goodness in all our busy and complicated lives. Step back and if your allergies aren't too, too bad, try smelling the roses. Perhaps then it will awaken your senses to all of life's mysterious and complex good possibilities.0 -
joan - I have to agree with what VR said. We all need to keep moving forward and live each new day. We can find happiness - it is out there.

I would like to freeze the clock to when I was 22 - was a great year of my life, but then I would not have met DH, the love of my life. Who knows what today will bring when he gets home from work? Something to look forward to.
Meanwhile I am tossing in anxiety that comes with waiting for test results. Had chest CT yesterday, and despite my positive outlook and resolutions, find myself just a bit on the jittery and non-focused side today.
I am grateful that a friend spent the weekend with me, helped me with some gardening chores. Had not seen her in a couple years - we have known each other since college, but grew up in such similar environments that we are truly sisters. Hugs to everyone around the fire today.0 -
Linda - Hugs right back at you.
