Bonfire of the Goddesses

Hugs back at ya', Ducky! I hear you--LE is bonfire fodder, for sure, so I'm glad to see you here tossing it all in. Sometimes I hate cyberspace--I wish we lived close and I could go with you and throw a fit at the inept fitters. Too many of them think whatever they have in stock is exactly what you need, instead of caring to find the right fabric, fit and comfort level.
Be well, Ducky!

my wish too0 -
Thank-you for the information, Binney. I'm getting on a flight to Hawaii soon. I always wear compression (also have to wear it on both legs due to DVT's - thank-you, tamoxifen) when I fly. The last time I flew my hand swelled up a lot, but it went down shortly thereafter. I've never been diagnosed with LE, and seems like I'd know if I had it, wouldn't I????
Some of this stuff I feel like I've just stuck my head in the sand and ignored as much as possible. I HATED the LE therapist they sent me to out of the hospital, so only saw her twice. She seemed like a charlatan to me. But I've also seen women who had REALLY BAD LE, and I do NOT want that to happen to me.0 -
Gardengumby, when you wear a compression sleeve you should also wear hand protection, either a glove or gauntlet (fingerless glove). Here's why:
http://www.lymphedivas.com/handprotection.asp
And here's information about how you can judge a good fit:
http://www.stepup-speakout.org/proper_fitting_of_lymphedema_garments.htm
Unfortunately, there are a lot of not-so-great lymphedema therapists out there, mostly because any PT or OT can call themselves a lymphedema therapist with literally NO specialized training, and even those who are trained usually lack supervision, so they can get careless. So you might want to look around for another well-trained lymphedema therapist. Here's how to find one near you:
http://www.stepup-speakout.org/Finding_a_Qualified_Lymphedema_Therapist.htm
Wishing you a great vacation, but not a "swell" one!
Gentle hugs,
Binney0 -
Binney Thanks for reposting here appreciated. My Pm to Kira, I called her the "Pro from Dover". She got that it was a great compliment b/c she had seen the original M.A.S.H. My last Pm I called her OH PFD. May I call you OH PFDII. The two of you are a wealth of info. So, appreciated that you both took such care to answer my question with such thoroughness. I will store it away in my storage thread. . Thanks sassy
this link is to the original thread that KIRA reposted her Pm response to me

Granny - Thanks. I will look in my local Walmart and won't be surprised if they don't have it. The Walmart stores down here sometimes really suck. I'll let you know where I get it.0 -
FC - What department did you find the hair chalk in? Mixed in with hair color kits? I will look too next week.
Throwing my sore R shoulder into the fire - well maybe the pain not the shoulder. All kinds of scans done and found deg. arthritis; no metastasis PTL. Have appt. with PCP on Wednesday. I was near crying the other night at bedtime. Stomach will only take so much Ibuprofen. Thank you Femara.0 -

Lilgoats, sorry about your shoulder. My DH is having surgery on his 2 weeks from today. Trying to sleep is miserable for him. Hope yours feels better soon! Cortisone shots helped him a lot for quite a while. He has the arthritis thing going on too. Thank goodness for NO mets though!0 -

I want to throw in my sleep deprivation. Haven't slept well since stopping Notriptyline. I was taking it for neuropathic pains in my feet as a result of rads. It was also keeping my pulse rate way up. Pulse rate is now good and the toe pains are not bad. Just can fall asleep and stay asleep. It is so frustrating.
I will look in the "As Seen on TV" aisle at Walmart for the hair chalk the next time I go. Where I live, it can be hard to find stuff like that. If I have to, I will ask Granny to send me some.0 -
JOJO when I saw it I thought of u...do you want me to get it for u?I go to walmart quite often now that im in PA....seriously just let me no and you got it....0 -
Jo, I had these in my storage thread.. Just reposted them on Insomnia thread. . Hope there's something in them that helps. Notself on Insomnia thread had a good approach with her sleep med. I was telling another member and her doc told her to do the same thing. The method was take sleep med 3 nights in a row, then go without and see how sleep went. Basically, what they both described was resetting the circadian rhythm. Google it for other suggestions. But time and distance from the tricylic is what you need. Did you wean off it versus cold turkey?
Articles related to circadian rhythm:
I saved these threads in my storage thread, so, they were easy to locate

Sas - Thanks for the info and links. It is never wise to go off a tricyclic cold turkey. The side effects from doing it that way can be deadly. I did wean off it for a period of several weeks. For some, it could take longer, depending on the dosage.
Granny - I found the hair chalk at Walmart. Thanks!!!0 -
Jo, glad to hear you didn't re:tricyclic. I've written much on the antidepressants b/c docs unfamiliar can lead their patients astray. So, happy you are educated well on your drug. Happy Dance. Hope you find something useful in the links and Notselfs story useful.0 -
Jo.....I depend completely on the medication package insert for the correct info about any drug....all your facts are right there straight from the manufacturer......after working for 20 years in Big Pharma....(GSK) and still having 2 daughters working there...both for +25 years.......you become quite knowledgable as to why you read the insert..........many people toss it in the trash.....
Also if you don't get the insert you can always read thoroughly the directions that the pharmacy always gives you with your meds..........although I have had people say to me......" Oh, I never read that stuff"..........to that I say......." Guess there is a fool born everyday"............read your insert........you will find out everything you need to know.........0 -
you r soo right Ducky...I always read everything that comes with any medication...i even read the vitamins cause sometimes they do interact with the meds....
give our Grayson a big kiss form us....the other Greyson is such a brat...
I am the FIREKRACKER.XO0 -
SAS - I was in the Mental Health field for 17 years and am very familiar with antidepressants and how they work. So, I knew I had to slowly wean off the medication. I had no problems doing that.
Ducky - I so agree with you. I have to admit though that I don't read the inserts. Instead, I get on my handy dandy computer and with the help of Mr Google, I do my research. When I get a new medication, I want to be damn sure it isn't going to interact with anything else I am taking and want to know all the drug interactions, side effects, drug warnings, etc. I think it is foolish to just throw good information in the trash.0 -
I always knew my baby sista was one smart cookie...

Jo......same here....I google every med I am told to take.....great information source for some things......
You go on there checking your aches and pains can be scary....lol........never good to diagnose yourself...lol.......guilty sometimes....lol....but a great source once you know what you have from a sr's dx. .......that I am guilty of........especially Web MD.....
Grayson sends her love back to you her 2nd GG.........she sat in a child seat last night at the restaurant, and was an angel for her Mom's and her aunts birthday dinner........sat up, by herself......so happy......thanks.
Greyson her buddy has to be a little Fireceacker like his Nonna........0 -

I ant to throw sickness, cancer and tests into the fire. I am so sick of running, running, running. I almost forgot to throw my phone into the fire. Stupid thing rang this morning and scared me. I want to slap the person who called that early and then asked if they woke me up. Guys, I just had chem 2 days ago... what do you think? Into the fire!
Hugs0 -
Veggy, I have missed you here for a bit - will join you in tossing in cancer & tests, luckily I am not really sick right now but lots of complaints of SEs and LE and pain issues, so in they go, too. And I really hate it when I am actually able to get some sleep that someone jolts me out of it with the phone. It is tough to get enough rest and sleep with all the meds and SEs anyway, so it is especially frustrating when you actually ARE sleeping to get awakened so rudely.
Hope you feel better today. Which chemo are you on now? (((((Veggy)))))0 -
Linda.......tossing my SE's in too......just 1 day pain free.......they say....walk....exercise......how the hell do you do that when the pain will not allow it........like I really want to sit on my ass all the time.......it's do, sit, do a alittle more, sit, really depressing......oh well shit happens......0 -
I'm on Gezmar. It brought my tumor markers down halfway. YEAH! Doctor is surprised how well its working.0
