I am the fireKracker0 -
Veggy - Great news about our son.
Granny - aka FireKracker - Who are you throwing into the fire now??? The fire is huge right now. How nice to have a 3 month break from the doctors. It seems we spend so much of our precious time in their waiting rooms and offices don't we? OMG! Your cholesterol level is quite high - hope you can get it down for gosh sakes. I am also enjoying the break from doctors - I don't have to go see anyone until Dec 16th. Yea!!!0 -
OK now I'm throwing the PCP into the fire. Saw him yesterday about shoulder that's been hurting for a week. He punted to ortho who I have appt with on Monday. What is with so many of these docs being so easily available? Are we the only ones spending on doc appts. That office wanted to know if I had an MRI on it. My insurance co is going to throw a fit - don't know if they will even approve it. Had a chest CT and bone scan this summer already. What the heck is an MRI gonna tell him? Anyone had cortisone injections into a joint? Does this chit never end? Oh my PCP does not believe any of this could be caused by the Femara. Might need to forward him some studies. He is going to add nicely to the fire.0 -
GrannyD, ask your doc if you can take Red Yeast Rice tablets. They work well for a lot of people to bring down cholesterol. Might be worth a try?
Lmgoats, my DH has had several cortisone shots into his shoulder. They hurt. Then his shoulder hurts a little worse for a day or so, then it feels a lot better for a couple months. Then it starts going back downhill and he starts over. He finally scheduled the surgery for nov 4.
Veggy, thank goodness for boring test results!
Hope everyone else is well! Going to be really cold here in the south tonight. Freeze warnings. Thanks for keeping the fire burning so brightly!0 -
luvmygoats - I have had cortisone injections in my shoulder and the way my ortho doc did it, it didn't hurt much at all. He sprayed something on my skin first to numb the area. I felt the pressure of the needle but nothing I couldn't handle. How much pain is involved will depend on the doctor.0 -
4sew - Can he drive himself home afterwards? It is a 45 minute drive home and don't think DH will be interested in chauffeuring. Don't expect this on Monday but planning ahead. He already has to drive me to yearly glaucoma doc appt. No choice with that; he dilates my eyes and I feel like poop afterwards with all the eye straining tests. Usually come out with a headache. I had a numbing injection in a badly sprained ankle 40+ years ago and remember the fire from that. 'Course it was a country GP and not a "real" ortho. Thanks for the info.
Wow - a freeze already. I do need to get my patio plants cleaned up ready to come inside.
Veggy - A big YAY for TMs coming down. Go Go Gemzar.
Granny (otherwise known as Firecracker) - my PCP and MO don't test my cholesterol. Or thyroid. Going to chew one of them out big time about this.
Thanks Jo. Just saw your reply. He seems like an experienced ortho. My PCP knows my medical background so he betta not send my to a newbie/jerk/no good. Did check the guy's ratings on the local healthgrades thingies and he seems good.0 -
Luv......be careful of the cortisone......you can only get do many......my son was getting them in his elbow, and ended up tea tuning his biceps muscle in his arm from the injections weakening everything....just saying.....I had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders...1 arthoscopic...walk in the park......the other open surgery cause the tear was too large.....it was a walk through hell..........if he can get arthoscopic it is worth it...mine went great, pain left and never came back.........
Just be careful of cortidone....0 -
Lmg, he does drive himself too and from with no problem. the shot has some lidocaine in it too. Mi think the level of pain has to do with the doc, the damage in the joint and how they do the shot. DH usually gets it in 3 spots so they move it around some. Also, take into it that he is a HE!! The shots have really helped for a long time, but the time has come for surgery. He was actually scheduled when I got diagnosed and he postponed to get me through my chit.0 -
Thanks for the info. I've had trouble with my heel b4 and been warned about cortisone shots there. PTL it is one spot not bothering me too much. PCP thinks rotator cuff not torn, might have biceps tendonitis along with the sternocostochondritis all on R side but for sure rads were on L. Never ends. Enjoying a glass of sangria alongside the fire. "Cold" front blowing through, just lovely air tonight. DH going out to unload hay I bought today. Says I can't be a slug so TTFN.0 -
Typically, Ortho docs will only inject an area a total of 3 times and then move on to something else like PT and/or surgery. The injections are usually a combination of cortisone and lidocaine. I had to have a couple of injections in my back after my breast recon surgery - latissimus dorsi flap.0 -
DH does have a tear and also some arthritis and other stuff going on. They are going to start with a scope but may have to switch to open surgery depending on what they find once they get in there. They told him 18 weeks rehab! PT starts 5 days after surgery. Don't know how many times he has had shots. They were 6 months or so apart. He reminded me he has had shots in his knees before too. He said they mostly just kind of burn.
Heels you have to be really careful with because the shots can rupture the achilles (sp!) tendon. At least that's what they told my mom. She ended up with surgery on both of hers after nothing else worked. They actually detached, scraped clean, and re-attached tendon. Not pleasant during rehab, but the results were worth it.
Enjoy that Sangria and the cool breeze!!0 -
your right Jo.....3 times, but my smart ass 46 year old son went to 2 different Dr's and never told the 2nd about the first.......thus weakened the muscle and turned it to jello....he' great now, but it took 1 year to get back to full use.......
The open surgery is awful......my tear was beyond a scope repair when they got in there, so they made the cut.it was bad and took me 6 months to get back to normal.
I hope he does better.....we are all different....just pray for a small tear.......0 -
Thanks Ducky! I have gotten pretty bitchy about him getting this scheduled and to stop using me as an excuse! I don't want it to get any worse than it is. If it took you 6 months, him being a man, I can plan on at least 9, right!?!?!? Lol
Better than my mom though, she had partial shoulder replacement that didn't take and then they had to go back in and do a complete replacement. OUCH! Here's to hoping I have my dad's framework!!!0 -
wow very active tonite.
I still see the fire burning and damnit I still smell the flesh.
4- I tried the red yeast rice and it didn't do a thing....I damn near tried everything.this dr. Told me some ppl just cannot take the statins....let's see how the niacin works.he told me to up the dose from 500mgs to 1000,then if my stomach can tolerate it go to 1500.thats the max.
It's gonna be around 30deg. Tonite...brrrrr.
Can anyone answer this question??? If it's that cold outside how in the world could that fire still be burning...and the flesh smell is bad...maybe it's a witch ..
I'll be back
I am the FireKracker....0 -
30's here tonight too. In Atlanta!!!
Keep stokin' that fire. I probably got a couple of people and some other chit I could pitch on to keep it going!0
