My MO doesn't do scans unless absolutely necessary either. Says we're just " chasing shadows" unless there are symptoms or strong indications.

Outlaw I'm sorry for all u go thru--but really it might not be what u think, we now feel everything whereas we didn't so much before and when there is something it can be nothing.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone who celebrates it. Enjoy u;r day with feeling well, and if u don't feel well, next Thanksgiving this will just be a memory. And u'll have many.

My MO also does not do scans, unless there are symptoms. He does an annual blood test with markers for my, now, annual visit with him. He'd see me twice a year if I didn't see my PCP at least quarterly.

  • Ladies. Thanks for the input on scans/no scans. As a nurse I do not feel the need without signs/symptoms. As a consumer I feel some of this is overkill and the monies can be used elsewhere. As a woman with BC every scan brings bach the horror of the day of the first mammo in June '12 and the week in July '12 of scans twice daily.

A quiet lovely day with my daughter.

Enjoy your Thursday with or without turkey.

    Much love

Goutlaw I'm sorry u feel so confused and u sound scared--maybe I'm wrong--It's funny cuz my cat Ktie-Kat always seems to know where something is not right--she found my tumors, she massages purrfectly my LE and some how has detected other things with me, only me tho--So I don't know the difference between a pet/cat scan really--but I do tell the Dr. I had my own pet/cat scan--leave me alone--but they don't listen to me and my Katie-Kat has never been wrong---I hope u'r mind can be eased--well not be me--but for the questions u asked. Someone will help you.

& I dont understand what a SUV uptake value mwans? why cant they just tell u size of mass?

  • Goutlaw- I feel so bad for you,you sound absolutely terrified. I wish I had some answers for you but as kayb says you really need to meet with your doctor to get specific answers related to your Pet Scan results. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care and try not to make yourself crazy trying to understand the results without talking to your doctor. Hugs

No just seeing the odds off breast cancer spreading directly to adrenal? or if anyone everyone had problems on their pet scans

Goutlaw please don't take this wrong, but u'r putting so much stress on u'rself, it's not helping how u feel or u'r results. Please try to remember it is what it is and there are NO tried and true rules, no matter what the % is, I do hope u'r taking something for u'r anxiety, if u are, ask for something else to help u, And if u'r not please ask the Dr. Do u go to any support groups? That seems to be of help for a lot of people too. And of course coming here I think is wonderful, but sometimes we need more so just think about all this.

Gout, chill to the max. Most things on the adrenals and kidneys are not really much of anything. They are mostly cysts, or the rare and extremely infrequent pheochromocytoma, which would make you have sky-high blood pressure and you'd be jumping out of your skin and weigh about 102 lbs... My thoughts, be super thrilled with the clean bones, brain and lungs and chillax. You are doing well, and you really need to make sure you can get some straight answers from your doctors. Do they blow you off?

Lago, I can't believe ACS didn't snap you up, but I like how you are handling it and agree with the sorority explanation. I see that in different groups within my company, and it isn't a smart approach. But you are right, it isn't worth getting angry over, and they are being short sighted. If you ever think of a career in diagnostic/pharma let me know :-)

So I have to say I am very, very, very thankful for all of you wise women who have talked me down from the ledge multiple times over this year and at the end of the last year. You all will never know how much the things you have typed/chatted about has helped me. I prayed at grace at the Thankshannukah table this Thursday about all of you and your love and support. I have a little tear or two here...thank you!!!

goutlaw, ditto everyone else. Deep breaths! Put it in a box and only open it up again at the Dr's office. Or just give yourself permission to worry for a half hour. Then stop. Go do something. Go for a walk. Make tea. Drive around your neighborhood and see who has Christmas lights up. Stuff like that helped me calm down. Then you can worry for a half hour the next day. Then just keep doing other stuff . Good luck.

Pbrain. You have been a lot of help about trials and pharmaceutical stuff. Thanks. Cami you are always there for people. Thanks. Special IS special. Thanks.

If I haven't mentioned you by name blame chemo brain remnants.... but thanks for being here. Because I could not have made it without every single one of you who have picked me up when I needed that. And kicked my ass when that was more appropriate! LOL. Much love.

just a reminder as to how fortunate we are...available only 7 years for most of us!

"In September 1998, Herceptin was approved in combination with chemotherapy (paclitaxel) for treatment of women who had not received previous medicines for their advanced (metastatic) HER2-positive breast cancer (first-line treatment). It was also approved as a medicine to be used alone for women who had received prior chemotherapy (second- and third-line treatment).1

In November 2006, Herceptin was approved for treating early-stage (adjuvant) HER2-positive breast cancer when given with chemotherapy (doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and paclitaxel), a combination called AC-TH. In January 2008, it was also approved as a stand-alone medicine following anthracycline-based chemotherapy.1 In May 2008, Herceptin and chemotherapy (docetaxel and carboplatin), known as TCH, was approved. This treatment regimen has been associated with a lower risk of heart damage when compared to other combinations of Herceptin and chemotherapy.1 Another AC-TH combination, comprised of Herceptin, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide and docetaxel, was also approved in May 2008.1"

ashla, I sometimes wonder if Herceptin would have been available to me in 2000, if I would be here (BC again) now. But we can't change the past, only accept and deal with the trails we are given today.

As I said from the very beginning when I found this thread a year ago, I am SO grateful to everyone who shares their wisdom, knowledge, encouragement, trials and sense of humor. You all have something special to add to these discussions. I am thankful for each one of you.

Pbrain what is diagnostic/pharma. Hey maybe I should be in that field Loopy

goutlaw just sending more (((hugs))) your way.

Bren it is not uncommon for DCIS to be HER2+ but not turn into invasive HER2+ even if it does go invasive. Last time I checked they do not give Herceptin to those with non-invasive disease so it wouldn't have mattered back in 2000 if it was available. You won't have received it.

Thanks lago, makes me feel better that there really wasn't anything else I could have done back then.

  • As a sort of late comer to this group I am so grateful to each of you. I do not post as often as some, but I read and often reread posts. As I read what many of you survive I am humbled by your wit and cheer and ability to support others. I often want to roll into a fetal position and have a very long and loud pity party. I can then read the suggestion to allow myself 30 minutes then kick myself in the rear and go on. A nice suggestion I need often! I am fortunate I am employed with good health insurance. I am very fortunate that the #%^$ husband walked out the day my port was placed--despite the anger I felt and some lonely times since. I am fortunate for good friends and family. And for the women on this and other threads.

As I have told my 2012 Chemo group. We really need to meet someplace with hot and cold running maid service and cabana boys.

Count yourself as someone who inspires others with your courage . Kindness and wickedly funny sense of humor.

At one point we were talking about meeting up in Bordeaux France with Nicky.

Nicky... Do you think we can find a place with hot and cold running maid service and cabana boys near you?

Anywhere it is... Count me in!

    Bren,

Sorry I took down the post and didn't get a chance to put it back. My understanding is that it would not have been available to you. It was only for metastatic breast cancer at the time. In fact it wasn't until 2006 that many of us would have received it.

Let me see if I can find the link again
