Laurie, I would never have guessed you were a bartender!  In my 20's I worked as a cocktail waitress at the Hilton Hotel in Cape Canaveral. It was during the big space launches and I had a ball.  All the network journalists stayed at the Hilton so I got to see them and serve them cocktails!

Carol- I worked tending bar, waitressing, cooking and managing in resteraunts for years.  The bar was always my favorite though.  You made the most money, had your regulars and got to have fun mixing cocktails all night.    Hope your dinner with friends is great tonight!

Mandalala- Your afternoon of cooking sounds like it was fun!  Sometimes the best meals come together in a way we don't plan ;)

    Mandalala-WelcomeLaughing

Well, here it is 2012 and i dont feel any different! Well maybe a little im not hung over today like i was last year at this time LOL! I drank unsweetned ice tea at the casino so i was a good girl. Actually the lines were backed up and didnt want to stand in line when i could be parking myself at the slots- Place was packed (too crowded) and smokey! I did win 240 dollars so i was happy about that- Last year someone stole my ticket out of the machine, it was about 30 dollars and the guy showed up one year later they got the money back from him and let my DH know, so i got 30 bucks just walking in the door (sweet)

I have also worked in the restraunt/bar bussiness all my life starting from fast food to 5 star restarunts. I worked at the black orchid for Tom Selleck he was awesome and sweet not to mention so cute back then, My favrotie person i waited on was john wayne who came into my parents restaurant while filming rooster cogburn back in 1975. on the rogue river which runs right behind the restaurant. I have waited on quite a few actors but he was by far the nicest person ever!

May our year be full of good health, love, and prosperity! xoxo

edited to say, and good Food!

Mandalala:  Welcome.  I'd love to know what to call my 40 year old son's significant other.  They have been together for 11 years & that's way past 'girlfriend'.  They decided some time ago not to get married since they don't choose to have children.  Sigh.  I use DIL most of the time since it's too complicated to explain.  Anyone else have ideas?  Daughter out-law?  That should turn some heads.

Debbie6122: Went to see The Decendants this morning.  Thought of you while watching the Hawiian scenery.  Beautiful.  Where did you say you were staying?

Happy New Year everyone.  Obligatory Southern black-eyed peas for supper.

Minustwo- I have been wanting to see the decendants, i think it was Michelle who saw it and loved it too. We are staying at the Sheraton waikiki. Although i think Daughter out law is cute and funny, but then you still have to explain that too LOL!

Here is what my DH requested for dinner tonight one of mine and his favorties:

Pasta IN A CREAM SAUCE WITH SALMON OR CHICKEN

2 TBS OF EVOO (OLIVE OIL)

    2 SHALLOTS- FINELY CHOPPED

2 CLOVES OF GARLIC- FINELY CHOPPED

    2 CUPS OF CHICKEN STOCK

1/2 CUPS OF FRESH LEMON JUICE (ABOUT 2 LEMONS)

1 CUP OF DRY WHITE WINE (CHABLIS)

    2 TABLESPOONS OF CAPERS

    1 TBS OF SALT

    1 CUP OF HEAVY CREAM

    CHOPPED UP PARSLEY-FOR GARNISH

SAUTE SHALLOTS AND GARLIC IN THE EVOO FOR 3 OF 4 MINUTES, DONT BROWN THE GARLIC- IT WILL TASTE BITTER

STIR IN WINE AND SIMMER FOR 5 MINUTES OR SO, STIR IN STOCK AND LEMON JUICE, AND THE CAPERS, AND BRING TO A BOIL, SEASON WITH

SALT AND PEPPER. THEN SIMMER FOR 15 MINUTES OR SO.

I LIKE TO USE SPAGHETTI  OR ANGEL HAIR PASTA, COOK ACCORDING TO PACKAGE ON BOX, DRAIN AND TOSS WITH THE CREAM SAUCE- MAKE EITHER CHICKEN BREAST OR BAKED

SALMON AND CUT INTO CHUNKS AND TOSS WITH PASTA AND SAUCE, GARNISH WITH CHOPPED UP PARSLEY.

IF USING CHICKEN BREAST, I LIGHTLY BROWN IT AND CUT UP IN BITE SIZE PIECES AND FINISH COOKING DURING THE SIMMERING PROCESS.

Hi everyone, and welcome Mandala!  We have left our friends in Milton MA and are now at our daughter and SIL's house minding the grandkids, who are actually all in bed now.  They were good - my daughter made baked chicken, potato salad and salad fixings so they could make their own salad.  They actually ate, for a change.  Then I made popcorn and they watched some Pink Panther episodes.  Now DH and I are settled down to watch football.  I will be in my pj's shortly, I am beyond tired.  Last night was the first night that my skin bothered me enough to keep me awake for a while.  I'm so glad I'm getting a break until Tuesday.  Ugh, my 4-year-old granddaughter saw my chest and asked me about it...how the heck do you explain it to a little kid???

Joyce - Chinese sounds good!  Hope it was a good surprise!

deboreye, there you are!  Did I miss your lovely picture before?

Ducky, I'm sorry that the holidays bring such memories.  I want a good 2012 for you.

For all, I've found "Pandora" on my computer, just put it in the search box and then put your favorite artist in and if you want them to suggest others you can put that in too and it will make your own play list Wonderful!

I'm making cioppino tomorrow with a friend.  Yum there are so many recipes on the Internet and most have a lot of protein (fish and shellfish) and tomatoes for veggies.

Thanks guys for the bread recipes, I will try to make some to go with it.

For the New Years there were 5 of us sleeping in the same bed!  So cozy and full of snuggling.

Before you get any ideas, I'm the official pet sitter of my neighbors, so there was 1 standard poodle one miniature poodle mix, my 2 black cats and me! :)

Happy New Years everyone! And may it be a good and new one.

    Sally

Does anyone have any ideas for my "why is my incision hurting now" post?  sorry to change the subject but not many people answered.

Anyone have a remedy for muscle back spasms.  My God, they make me yelp in pain and they're real quick to come and go.  I tried the heating pad which feels good but after a while I'm yelping again.

No non-prescription ones except massage :(

  • Laurie08
    Laurie08 Member Posts: 2,047

Deb- Bio- freeze helps me alot with muscle issues, it's like icey hot cream only better and used by massage therapists.  I could have a pinched nerve in my neck and have a migraine from it, take a hot shower put it on and poof- all better.  I swear by it.

Michelle- No wonder you are pooped!  You don't stop for a second!  So glad you are enjoying time with your grandkids but so sorry that the burn is keeping you from sleeping.  I hope tonight is better for you and you get some relief on your break till Tuesday.  As for what to say to a child, I found to just be straight forward and simple- no big deal.  When Tried to hide things from my older son who was 2 1/2 at the time he had issues and fears, playing Dr with his teddy bears, them "going away to God."  As soon as I said things matter of fact and told him it was all no big deal he stopped.  I know your grandchildren are a little older but I would just tell them what you do, you go in and lay down and get zapped by some magic that makes the cancer go away, sometimes it gives you a sunburn but it will go away.  I don'ty know.....hope it helps.  This from me, that when I got caught by my son naked with my drains, I panicked!  I had one in each hand and he said what are those?  I responded I have no idea, I just found them here on the floor?  I'm going to throw them away, they are just plastic.  DOH!!!  Dumb.

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Laurie - thanks!  My daughter told her it was some medicine to make me better, which seemed to satisfy her for the moment.  That's a funny story about your drains!

We are going to leave here right after breakfast tomorrow then I'll relax at home and watch the Tournament of Roses parade.  We've set it to record in case we don't get out of here early enough.  And I won't be doing much for the rest of the week, except I need to visit my mom.  And go grocery shopping, and whatever else...LOL!  Life just happens!

Deb - Aleve along with Tylenol if you don't have any muscle relaxers.  I hope you get some relief soon!  Do you happen to have any Valium?  That would do the trick, most likely.

Mandelala and minus2, I have the same problem with my 74 yo MIL's SO. They have been together for ten years. Boyfriend definitely doesn't cut it. Half of the grand kids (the younger ones) call him pop pop and the older ones call him Arnie.

Chinese food does sound good. I didn't end up making pork and sauerkraut, I guess no luck for me this year! Went over my friends and had appetizers and desserts. Looking forward to trying the beer chicken in the next day or two. Bedo, I am going to look up your post.

Michelle- Sorry you are having some pain with your burn. ((((hugs))))) Like Laurie said, you are always on the go how do you do it?

Laurie- Funny story on the drains LOL!

Deb- Hope your back gets better, here is what my DH used to do when he had back pain, he rolled up a towel and layed on the floor with the towel tucked just in the small of the back- He says it works, don't know, never tryed it- But hope you feel better soon.

Bedo- My incision hurt for quite awhile, how long has it been for you? If it looks red, swollen and different i would call your BS just to be safe

Ducky and Kay- you both had pork chops and saurcraut tonight, it sounds good!

I am also a former restaurant person and I liked the work. I waitressed, managed and also bartended here and there as well as filled in when cooks didn't show up for work.

Speaking of brushes with celebrity, I once got stiffed by Madonna, the bitch! ;)

i loved restaurant work.. did it for years.. first cheffing and then waitressing/managing/ and bartending.. I had one kicking job  where I bartended, was paid as a manager and made tips.. awesome!

anyway, it's hamburgers with Velveeta cheese tonite.. actually pretty darn wonderful.

I waited on Paul Newman and his lovely wife Joanne .. they sat at my bar rather than sit at a table.. there was kind of a private corner where they could look out at the crowd and nobody dared to bother them.. we are cool in KC ..   we talked on and off for like 2 hours.  they were sooooo nice.  (no drinks btw.. just orange juice (it was brunch time).

I also waited on some other famous actress who seems really nice on screen and she was an absolutely B.

  • Momine
    Momine Member Posts: 2,845

LOL, about the actress B. I also used to wait on Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Kline and Amanda Plummer (dry scrambled eggs and WW toast) and they were all completely lovely and nice.

So far, (knock on wood), no spasms today.  My hips are bothering me but I know that is the Arimidex.  I will be done with Arimidex July 26th.  Can't wait, I hope it is not doing some kind of damage to my joints and muscles.  Yell

Wow- I can't believe all the famous people you gals have waited on!  The most famous for me was our governor.

Deb- hope you get some relief soon :(

I have chicken breasts out- I planned on  making a chicken stir fry, it's not my favorite but DH loves it and it is healthy.  I might flake out and do shake and bake and scalloped potatoes, the kids would be happier.....we'll see what happens in an hour....

I was waiting tables in NYC, in an area that was fashionable for celebrities back then. It was a long time ago, but fun. I even got to tell off Sting a few times.

Tonight we didn't really have dinner, because we had a late lunch. Instead I made some oatmeal scones and we munched those with tea. They were good.

We got home around noon and I've barely moved out of my recliner!  We picked up prepared food for the day from our favorite store near my daughter's house.  We had some great guacamole with blue corn chips and bbq wings with a garlic and ginger sauce.  For dinner we'll have meatballs and sauce, salad, and baguette with garlic and chive spread.  No muss, no fuss!  Watched the Rose Parade, sort of watched/napped through one football game and now the Rose Bowl game is about to begin.  I'm enjoying the quiet!  Rick is half-watching, too, and enjoying his new iPad.

My skin is a little better today but there are lots of raw peeling spots, in the area where they zap my mammary nodes.  The rest of the radiated area is not really even red.  I have switched to the greasy Aquaphor and it's helping a bit.  We'll be back to the 5:40 time this week.  I can't believe how lucky we've been with the weather.  It needs to hold out for another week and a half.

Deb - glad your back is better today.

I used to work for a defense contractor in Westport, CT., and Paul Newman frequented a restaurant across from the train station.  One of our program managers came back from lunch and would tell us that he had seen Paul.

I would of loved to seen paul newman he was one of great Actors of all time along with John wayne, me, my brother and sil sat at our liberty lounge upstairs with Johnny depp and drank 2 expensive bottles of wine with him he had me drooling the whole time, i giggled like a school girl and i know i was so obvious.

Just had a fyed ham, egg and cheese sandwich YUMM!!

Deborye, glad you're feeling better. I didn't realize you are coming up on 5 years since dx. You go girl!

Michelle, glad the aquaphor is helping. I hated it, couldn't stand the greasiness, but it did work for me. Will keep my fingers crossed that the weather holds out for you. We had beautiful warm weather this weekend, but it got much colder today. I imagine it was about the same for you.

Carrie, how is your mom doing?

Made the Belgian beer chicken tonight. Could only fit half as much chicken in the pot we used. Everyone liked it. My DD even asked me if I could make her a sandwich from the leftovers for school lunch for tomorrow. Only problem is there are no leftovers. LOL, so it is a peanut butter sandwich for her tomorrow again.

Welcome, Mandalala.  Your cooking session with your sons sounds like a lot of fun.

Debbie, I enjoyed your post sharing some of your background.  How interesting.  DH and I have spent some time rv-ing in your area and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Tonight was baked chicken cooked in the clay baker.  Very tender and seasoned with various herbs and seasonings.  Steamed broccoli.  Garden salad.  Tasted good but nothing special.

Tomorrow is my appointment for a bone graft to build up bone in my jaw for dental implants.  I'm not looking forward to it.

My daughter worked at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel, and the Fairmount Hotel in Philly..........the people she met and served were unbelievable........Lou Rawls, Joe Montana, Joe Frazier, Pete Rose, Tom Jones, Kenny Rodgers........................amazing.

My son owned his own Trade Show Co. in NY City, and my younger son and son-in law worked for him......they did the Hasbro Toy Show at the Javitz center in NY.........and traveled all over the country doing the shows.......they med Cindy Crawford, and have pictures with her........Rober DiNiro....Reese Witherspoon.....Arnold Swartzenagger, Clint Eastwood and many more.........they gave up the business because of the traveling once they had children, but it was a crazy ride when they did it........their stories keep you laughing...............my son-in-law was actually asked by Cindy Crawford to be her "bodyguard" when she was in NY, because he was 6ft. 3in, and 230lbs................of course he never forgot that..................my daughter laughs..........Cindy took a picture with my son-in=law, and before kids it hung in his "man den"...........................once they had my grandson, it went into the garage..................when he said to his Dad.............."Daddy who is that lady in the garage on the wall".................he would say "oh that was Daddy's girlfriend before your beautiful Mommy"..................so the first time she came on TV on her commercial my grandson said "hey Dad, your old girlfriend is on TV"................

Carol- Frown I hope it goes ok tomorrow- but how awful!  I HATE dental procedures.

Michelle- I was thinking today- maybe it's not going to snow until your rads are done.  It's very strange that we have had such mild temps and no snow.  I am hoping it holds on for you until you're done.  Then the NEXT day I want it to snow just to prove it didn't this whole time JUST for you.  Wouldn't that be cool?  Your day today sounded perfect, I hope you are feeling well rested and non itchy.

Kay -lol at the peanut butter sandwich.  We haven't had leftovers from that dinner yet and I made it twice- more the second time.  Very cute she wanted the leftovers.

Deb- Hope work is good tomorrow!

Debbie- Johnny Depp?  He is my favorite, I think I would have melted on the chair.  Holy crap!!

Momine- your simple meals always sound lovely.  Sometimes I wish I could skip cooking and eat something simple.

I flaked out and made the shake and bake with potatoes.  Like Carol said tasty but nothing special.  Kids were happy, DH ate it and said it was good thank you (lol)  he doesn't know I almost made his stir fry ;)

My week is screwed up and I have to take the boys with me tomorrow to an account and balance their books.  Should be interesting....we had a talk today and will bring toys and crayons.  I should be able to power through in an hour if they let me think.  Like a 2 and 4 year old will let me think?  Ahhh well- it;s one week and it will work.  Then I might sneak in grocery shopping after to clear our schedule for the library and a play date later in the week.  Need to plan the meals again - yuck-

Laurie- wishing luck tomorrow LOL! At least its ONLY an hour ha!
