Last nights leftovers - Curried Aubergine and Kumara (sweet potatoe) on brown rice with some green tea.
I am really looking forward to it.

carole goood luck with the procedure...I am a big chicken when facing anything dental..dont know why, maybe childhood trauma somewhere.
Love the celebrity stories.
Kay thanks for asking about my mom...she ended up back in the ICU on New Years eve, her heart still not regulating. they started a new drug but as of today that is not working either. today they will sedate her and shock her, hope it works.
I am with you Michelle on the no snow thing...thank god since we are making several trips back and forth to hospitals to see my mom, and my son has to get back to Ohio some time this week.
My son has been dictating the meals since being home, and I will make him anything he wants, because then its back to school and a meager budget for him. So last night was chicken wings, but I made a tossed salad to balance them out!
keepingfaith Welcome! I do not know what Aubergine is.
0 -
Carrie - I think aubergine is eggplant. So sorry to hear your mom is still not doing well. I hope they figure this out soon as I know it has to be taking a toll on your family and your mom. Let's hope the clear weather prevails.
Welcome Keepingfaith! You have already taught us something, I had to look up aubergine!

"my kids doing a pub crawl over Christmas break to raise money for cancer. They raised 5,000 dollars!0
-
Carrie, good for them. They are kids to be proud of.
0 -
Carrie- great picture and cute kids! How did the pub crawl work?
Apple- love a good black bean soup, yum.
0 -
Carrie - that is so wonderful that your kids raised $5k for cancer! And it's a great picture, too!
Today's newspaper came with two recipes that sounded really good. The first is Mushroom, Beef and Barley Soup and the second is Pork Chops with Orange and Thyme.
http://www.relish.com/recipes/mushroom-beef-and-barley-soup/
For you vegetarians I noticed that they have a mushroom bean and barley soup recipe, too, that is actually a "mix" you can prepare and give as a gift.

The pork chop recipe looks really good and I'm planning to make this tomorrow

My DH heard about an Italian restaurant that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and he is insistent that we go there tonight.
Check out the lobster in the lobster ravioli...oh my!

Carrie- Your mom is in my prayers, hope the shock tx does the trick, my dad had that as well and he is doing fine. Cute kids, you must be proud!
Michelle- All the recipes sounds great!

Thanks for all your nice welcomes! And the welcome tree by deborye!
About unmarried daughters in law – in Swedish the same word goes for married and unmarried partner of one's child, and there is no "law" component to suggest a juridical aspect. But my son's significant other is definitely his girlfriend, so that's the word

Busy, busy, busy over the holidays. Once again I'm pages behind. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I ended a busy week with an Aretha Franklin concert Friday night at Foxwoods (she can still sing) and the Celtics game last night.
Michelle - Rino's Place is in my dad's cousin's old coffee shop. He just bought another cousin's variety store across the street and is turning it into a bar/appetizer place. I've never been there, but lots of relatives have and they say the food is fantastic. Parking is a problem and it's a really small place.

Wow!! Love reading all the background stories!
You all have had such interesting careers and celebrity encounters that I feel positively boring by comparison...lol
Making the Belgian Chicken tonight and it smells darn good! Although, I wound up draining the pan after browning the chicken... Did any of you that made it have to do that or did I just have particularly flabby chicken?
SO cold here today! Definitely the coldest day so far, here, this winter season!
Thanks Michelle for the soup and pork chop recipes... They all sound good! Let us know how Rino's Place is.... Guy visited a little Cuban restaurant near where my parents' place in Florida.... They were a little sad because it took a great hidden gem and made it very crowded! Tough to get a table there now but, the food is stiil great!0 -
Carrie,
Sorry to hear that your Mom had to go back in the hospital! Hope the shock treatment does its thing and that she is home for good soon!0 -
Carrie, very sorry to hear your mom still isn't feeling well. I also hope the shock will do the trick. I have some relatives who had great success with it. And that is a great picture of your kids. You should be proud.
Seaside, I did notice that the chicken shrunk when we made the beer chicken. We used breasts. I don't think the liquid seemed fatty though. I thought it gave the chicken a great flavor, but I didn't actually eat the sauce, just the chicken and carrots.
Tonight I made a grilled cheese for my DD and a veggie burger for me. She told me I am going to turn into a veggie burger. LOL0 -
Kay,
I used bone-in thighs so maybe that was it... After the chicken was browned and I took it out before adding the shallots and mushrooms there was easily 1/2 inch of drippings in the pan... I got rid of almost all of it and then added the shallots and mushrooms! Glad I did.... The sauce once it cooked down was delicious as was the chicken, carrots and mushrooms... Had some mashed potatoes along with it.... Wonderful! Thanks Debbie for a great recipe!0 -
Hi everyone, home from #23 and I am quite fried, but just in the one area. It was bad enough that the techs asked the nurse about it, but she said to "carry on." I see the RO tomorrow, he was in a meeting today. I guess I can handle it but I'll sure be glad when it's over. In the meantime, I'll probably pop a couple of painkillers tonight before bed.
Rino's Place was fabulous! I had clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops with homemade linguine in a red sauce and DH had Rino's special which had chicken, veal and shrimp over homemade linguine in a brandy cream sauce. We have enough food for two more meals at least because DH ordered the spaghetti bolognese to go. He read a review that said it was so good the reviewer couldn't order it anywhere else for fear of being disappointed. There are just 12 tables in the place and we were lucky to get seated (after I played the cancer card when the hostess suggested we wait at a bar three blocks away). We ended up at the next empty table! The toasted almond cream cake was to die for, very light and delicious. We did share, although I'm pretty sure I could have finished it off by myself. And the nice thing about eating before heading home is that we miss the commuter traffic. We made it home without a glitch.
Seaside - I know what you mean about those neighborhood gems that you'd like to keep to yourself! I think this is definitely one of those places.
Hauntie - that's most interesting about your family's ties to the location. I'm sure a bar/appetizer place will do very well because we heard this place can easily have a two hour wait.
It was 14 degrees on the way home...brrrrr!!! But no snow, unbelievable no snow!

Bermuda Lobstah

Glad you liked it. I forgot about the mushrooms, I ate those too. We had it with a Near East brown and pecan rice. It went really well together. Mashed potatoes would be good too. It would go with most starches I think.

It's funny how different people react to radiation. I thought I was going to fry and have open sore blisters but I didn't have any breakage of skin just a bad sunburn. But it healed real fast.

Thanks, Deb. They warned me that this would happen because of the way they are doing my rads in that specific area. Everywhere else just looks tanned. That plate of food looks luscious!

Our Maine Lobsters are more flavorful, the rock lobsters are kind of bland. But I still liked it. That was at the Lobster Pot Restaurant in Bermuda.

Michelle- Awww, dang!, I was hoping you would get through the rads without much pain or problems, would they let you take a break for a couple of days, not sure it would help though?
Seaside- What i did with the belguin chx was added more flour than called for and let the sauce reduce some without the lid then added the chicken pieces and put the lid back on, took off lid and cooked an additional 40 minutes or until thickened. I also didnt add ALL the beer i had a few sips before adding it LOL!
Carrie- Thinking about you and hoping your mom is doing ok!
Hauntie- I love arthea franklin, sounds like you had a great time.
Kay- I couldnt remember if you told me you made your own Veggie burgers or not, but if you buy them i would be careful of all the sodium in them which can be hard on heart, and i knew you were having some issues with that! '-))

Michelle, we must have been posting at the same time. Sorry you are having skin issues. If it's any comfort, I got really red. It looked like a shirt on me. Saw the RO when I still had 5 txs to go, and he thought I was going to blister and peal and even gave me the stuff I would need for it. I never got any worse with the last 5 txs. And I did start healing immediately when I was done. I hope you'll start healing soon. It hurts just to read your description.
Debbie, thank you for your concern. You gave me a couple of recipes to make my own veggie burgers, and there is one on the package of quinoa I bought too. I will try making them. I have been using packaged ones. So far no problems from sodium, and the docs have not told me to reduce it. But I might as well be proactive on it and not wait for problems. I can't believe how much I like veggie burgers. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, I used to eat lots of hamburgers. Tonight will be homemade veggie chilli. My DH was the one who made that. Joyce, your DH sounds like a dream. When mine does cook, I have to tell him what to make. I wish he would take charge and pick and make dinner sometimes. But he has a really demanding job, and I am not even working right now, so I have a lot of nerve to complain.
Have a great day everyone!0 -
Debbie - just two more zaps to the really bad area, the rest of the radiated area is not bad at all. I can do it, and I'd prefer to just get it over with. I had the three day weekend break and it didn't help much, so at this point I just want it all over and done with. I don't think the boosts to my scar area will hurt because I really don't have any feeling in that area. I am lucky that I've not had the overwhelming fatigue that so many people get. January 12th...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning.....mom came home yesterday, will not convert her till next tues. Want her to rest up and lie low till then the pacemaker only keeps her heart from going below 60 but doesnt regulate. hers is running around 130. Otherwise she is tired but doing well...thanks everyone.
The son left this morning...back to Ohio
Michelle I watched that utube video about rinos....the lobster ravioli looked fabulous. Glad you got in and had a great meal. You have such unbeleivable energy that rads isnt gonna get you tired.
Debbie we love sloppy joes...I make my own sauce though..but that recipe sounds like a good way to change it up a a bit.
Last night was chicken alfredo with spinach...my son loved it and took the leftovers home. my husband was just neutral, he is sooo hard to please, but yet has never cooked a meal in his life other than spaghetti. After my surgery when he was taking care of me, I ate a lot of canned soup. In my next life I will know better and marry someone who can cook!
0 -
Carrie, I hear you Sister. When we married My DH ate chili or pork n beans cold from the can. Luckily he never had to take care of me until after we got a microwave! Even now his cooking is limited to hard boiled eggs, toast and steaks cooked on a George Forman Grill or prepared foods heated in the microwave, Unfortunately almost every prepared food contains black pepper and I can't eat that, it gives me kidney stones!

My DH never, ever ventured into the kitchen to cook anything except a grilled sandwich until this summer when I started chemo. Then...voila...the man can cook a decent meal!
I made the mushroom beef barley soup from the recipe I posted yesterday. Very easy and tasty, although like most soups I expect it to taste better tomorrow.
The new college grad DD is taking me to rads tonight. When we get home, we'll have the Rino's Place leftovers along with a salad. Yum!
Carrie - I guess I decided that nothing is going to get me down! My DH thought I was nuts this summer when we kept having family over on the weekends right after my chemo treatments. But I think that sort of stuff is what keeps me going. And I am not working after having worked for almost 30 years while raising my kids, so this is easy by comparison! And having been away from the family for 20 years, I really don't want to miss a thing!

My dentist really messed me up for chewing. He removed a piece of bone from my lower jaw on the left and placed it in the upper jaw on the right. So I won't be able to chew on either side. Nothing but soft food for me until I heal. My face was swollen this morning and I am taking it easy at home, keeping track of when I take which pill that was prescribed. DH put together a pot of split pea soup before he went to play golf at noon.
The bone graft is a preliminary step for placing implants in four months. Silly me, I didn't think much of having this precedure. Had a lunch and movie date with a longtime friend that had to be concelled. My sister sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. She is such a sweet person.
Thanks for all the well wishes.

Ouch, Carole! That sounds awful! I hope serious painkillers are among those pills you're tracking!
