Oh Michelle! It is so hard when the people we know start to decline... Especially when it is a parent..

We are facing a similar situation with my husband's father... He can remember things from way back in the day with no problem but, things that have happened in the recent past or just even how to get somewhere that he has been a thousand times.... not so good!

He and my MIL visited over Christmas and I could see my FIL was disoriented even being here! So sad! My DH is an only child and his parents live 3 hours from us so... it's a challenge for sure...

Yet another crazy twist to this journey....

Thanks, everyone!  I know where her illness is leading, and these last two days was just a reminder.  Many of us are going through the same things.  It's especially obvious when you take them out of their normal environment.

Here's a link to Deb's recipe for the Fat Flush Soup, it has the 'missing" parts  Wink

    http://www.annlouise.com/blog/2011/10/04/my-famous-fat-flush-soup-recipe/

Bedo - we don't have a get-together planned right now.  Doesn't mean we couldn't put one together.  Maybe early April when we can be more sure about the weather?

Ok, that would be really good Michelle

Deb, tip your head!  Your brain is slipping to the side.  It will set it right.  lol!. It takes a while to 'set'. My brain has been doing the same thing so I know.  :)

    That soup does look good!

Can't believe I am back to work 15 hours a week and I seem to have no time for anything any more. Didn't help that I was supposed to have my herceptin infusion today. Got to the hospital at 9:30. First I had to get a blood draw because they test my blood levels to watch heart function. I was waiting and waiting to go back for the tx. A couple of times the nurse came and told me she called the lab but the results weren't ready yet. Then at 2 o'clock, the lab says they never received the blood to test. Grrrr! So they did another blood draw and I have to go back tomorrow for the infusion. But the thing that really makes me mad is they drew the blood from my wrist first. I have a port, but the nurses were busy in the chemo lounge so they wanted to draw the blood so I could get the infusion on time. Then when I had to get it redone, it was either wait for a chemo suite to open or get it from my arm. Grrrr!

Welcome ILboysmom! I think we're friends from some of the herceptin threads. I am always up for ice cream.

Michelle, sorry about your mom. My mother's dementia is really bad now. She barely speaks and is in a wheel chair all the time. It is very sad. Seaside, sorry to hear your FIL is having some problems as well. And Laurie, I am so sorry about your MIL. I hope you'll get some good news on some of the tests when the results come back.

Had cheese burgers and veggie burgers with sweet potato fries and a salad tonight. I have chicken marinating in the fridge for chicken Marbella tomorrow. Hope it comes out well. Split Chicken breasts were on sale for 99 cents a pound. There are 6 huge breasts ain't the fridge. I'll cook them all then freeze the leftovers. May not have it until Sunday since my DD has her first big semi formal dance tomorrow then a dance competition in Lancaster on Saturday. We'll see maybe DH and I will have it after she leaves for the dance. She and some of her friends are going to have pizza here then leave for another friend's house at 6:30.

    Hope everyone is sleeping well.

I went to the store and bought all the stuff for hot fudge sundays, ohhh boy were they good, bought a scratch ticket while i was there and won 30 dollars, woo-hoo Thanks ILBOYSMOM If you hadnt brought up the volcano oreo i wouldnt of thought of the sundays and wouldnt have won the money too LOL!

Kay- Oh, I'm  so sorry you had such a rough day, and a long one too. That is just unacceptable for them to lose your blood draws, and where did it go? Hmm makes you wonder if someone else got your results instead. No reason for such mixups or errors. Sounds like it will be a fun night for DD is she a professional dancer?

Seaside - well, the right side of the image is definitely chopped off but you can figure out most of it.  I just thought it would be easier to give the link so we could see all of it.  Not a big deal Wink

Kay - that is just inexcusable!  I can't believe they let you wait that long and no one was paying attention.  And then to lose your blood... you have to wonder how that happens.

My DH is on his way to Missouri until late Monday night.  JoyceK and I are going to lunch tomorrow.  Otherwise, I've got a nice quiet weekend on the horizon.  Maybe I'll go see The Artist - not sure I can get DH to go see that one.

Apple good idea with the skewers in the chicken.  I decided I would also offer a sweet and tangy sauce and maybe a barbecue as well and we can all dip our own.

Kay congrats on being back to work...were you tired the first couple of days? I dont know how I ever got anything done when I was working, seems to take me all day just to do the simple task around the house.

My DH took extra clothes to work...so I guess we are going out tonight.

That soup looks awesome....ha ha does it really flush the fat?  I am all in!!

My DD is a professional dancer in her own mind. LOL. It's actually a lot like little league. She's on a team and goes to competitions and gets scored by judges and competes against other dance teams.

Got my herceptin infusion today. They had the results from both blood draws, so they eventually found it. Don't know what the problem was, but I was in and out in 30 minutes today.

DD and her friends are upstairs just about ready for this dance. All this fuss for a dance that is from 7:30 to 9:30. LOL. The girls look so grown up and beautiful!

Made the chicken Marbella, will have it when the girls leave. It smells and looks great!

    Kay,

Those first semi-formal/formal dances are so exciting!! Especially for the girls! Gotta look just so right down to your shoes... Even though about 15 minutes into the dance the shoes wind up in a pile along the wall as everyone moves to comfort over fashion!!

Hope she has a great time!

OMG, I just feel so bad for one of the girls that works at the hair salon I go to. She has 2 young kids boy & girl. Her husband had a very bad cold and they call 911 Wednesday because he was having a hard time breathing, got to the hospital and his organs started shutting down and he died.  Found out he had pneumonia. They both are probably in the late 30's early 40's. My heart is so heavy for them, God give them strength.

Deb, So sorry to learn about such a tragedy for that young family. Thoughts for them and for you too since everyone who is connected to this woman is touched by her loss. So sad...

Michelle, I know the pain of watching the decline of a parent. My mother was so proud, and aware enough with her dementia that she spent tons of energy trying to "fake it"....then the symptoms would come eeking through. And yes it was awful for her when out of her familiar environment. Your mom is lucky to have a caring daughter who tries to help her reclaim the activities she loved. But yes, the tolerable activities do get more and more narrow. Does she enjoy going through albums about the "old times". Strength to you as you accompany her on that path.

I bet that fat flush (kind of hate attaching that word to food) soup would be great with the addition of chopped kale. It sounds so tasty!

On to figure out the Super Bowl foods to prep that can be leftovers for the week......maybe veggie lasagna, a shredded chicken chili, some hearty soups?

Go Pats! It was painful to see the anti-Pats sentiment in the Jimmy Fallon massive audience in Indy last night. That's what I get for staying up so late after a crazy work week! Bad habit....

Deb - such a tragedy for that young family.  My brother died in his early 40's (heart attack) leaving behind two kids and his wife, so I've been through that and it's so very difficult.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments about my mom.  I know many of us are dealing with similar issues with aging parents and it's so difficult trying to help them maintain their dignity while tending to their very personal needs.

I'm looking forward to lunch with Joyce and then I'll do a little shopping in Nashua.  And I need to hit the grocery store for chicken legs and whatever I am going to drink tomorrow during the Super Bowl festivities.  I've been on a Prosecco kick lately.  Both my daughter and I really like it, and she made a cocktail with blackberries and Prosecco that was just delightful.  We might just need a repeat performance of that one.

Deb,  that is such a tragedy....should not happen in this day!

Joy   I had an aunt that had lupus.  A long time ago (before BC)  I had not been feeling well , with major arthritic pain and fatique, and I made them test me for lupus, but nothing (thankfully). Hope that is the case with you also. Hope you feel better soon. Lunch with Michelle should help!

Had dinner out with friends last evening, my DH and I shared a chicken wrap with sweet potato fries.  they used onions and mushrooms with Jack Daniels barbecue sauce on the wrap...it was delicious.

    Joyce,

Have they tested you for Lyme Disease? One of my sister's friends was having all kinds of problems and they thought it was Lupus and it turned out to be Lyme Disease... They live in an area of upstate NY that has a big tick problem but, she did not recall being bit by one.

Not sure if this applies to NH or not but, thought I'd throw it out there.

Just checking in after a very busy week. I kind of fast forwarded through the last several days of posts.

So sorry about your MIL, Laurie. Hopefully the 3rd opinion is the charm that comes up with a treatment plan your MIL will go for.

Michelle - we've decided not to take my Dad on any more overnights away from home, unless it was the hospital.. Then he ended up spending 3 days in a hotel room, when the heat went off. at home. He did ok, but it's my poor DB#2 who has to deal with him.  Unfortunately, he sometimes doesn't know that home is home. I don't know where he thinks he is.Other times he's pretty with it. I think dementia sucks even worse than cancer. I'm heading over to his house, in a while, to spend the night. My other DBs and I take turns staying over on Saturday nights to give DB#2 a break. The house keeper is staying over tomorrow night, so DB can go enjoy the Patriots game at Foxwood.

Haven't done any cooking or baking recently. Too busy and too tired.

My arthoscopic knee surgery is scheduled for the 14th. I hope this solves the problem. I'm pretty much pain free walking around work, but if I try to do stairs or walk any distance, my knee aches for days.

Kay- I am so sorry you had such a horrible day, so frustrating.

Deb- That is so sad about your friend.  You would never think in this day and age that something like that could happen.  You never know....which is scary.

Deb I hope that your friend has support. I will be thinking/holding her in the Light.  (Quaker)

Michelle, you are a beautiful girl!  Like your new pic,

I'm sorry, I haven't read back much, so much time is taken up now with work, I think I'm going crazy!

My daughter's Grandpa is critically ill and she and her Dad and his kids are driving down there (Philadelphia from RI) to be with him. I think that he will pass.  I am sad because this is the first loss in her family, and he was a good man  She is in her 20's Please pray for strength for the family. Her Dad was a former husband but we still are on good terms.

Just having stuff to eat with friends.
