Deb, Hope the bread goes well. I am always fascinated by that Easter bread but never had the creative energy to try to make it!

Debbie, So sorry to learn that you are both sick....and I do hope it all "passes" quickly so you can enjoy Easter.

Kaara, love your new avatar....sunny, just like your state!

Michelle, I was thinking of you when I learned of the jet crash, and so wasn't surprised to hear that you saw it. Lots of new about that up here also. Hope you get some good golf and beach weather!

Laurie, the boys looked so cute making their eggs. Have a fun Easter with them! We are heading to our neighborhood easter egg hunt and coffee in the morning.

Bedo, I hope things are going well for you and your DD.

Went to see the oncologist today, and she said that the fatigue is not a common SE from Tamox, but she suggested that I go off of it for a week and see if my normal energy level returns.....so that's what I'm up to.

I also asked her about any grapefruit concerns (adversely affecting the Tamox) and she said that there is no medical evidence of that.....so finally I'll be enjoying the grapefruit someone sent me from Florida! :). I've been giving them all away.

We went out to lunch in Cambridgeport at a great little Thai restaurant, where I had hot and sour shrimp soup, and a duck dish with the regular Thai veggies. No need for dinner for me after that.

I was dying to make a kugel that I recall my mother-in-law serving many years ago....but not the dessert variety. While looking up recipes, I came across a cabbage kugel , and I had a whole head of cabbage in the fridge, so I made that....very interesting, tho maybe not for everyone...and not the noddle kugel I was originally wanting to make. I will serve some of it as a side with our Easter dinner, which is looking like it will take place here, with DS2 bringing meat to grill and mashed potatoes, DH making his new favorite vegetable, grilled asparagus, and I'll make a salad and dessert.

I'm up ridiculously late because I was also making pizzelle cookies to bring to our neighbor's coffee....two flavors, lemon and also anise. They take forever to make but my neighbors like them.

So I will now try to get some shut eye or I will stop complaining about fatigue!

Kaara - yes, I meant to say this yesterday...LOVE your new picture!

I'm up having coffee and catching up on my blogs while DH catches of on his zzz's. The breakfast is included here at this hotel but it's a genuine white carb fest along with those fake eggs and mystery meat sausage patties. I think we'll go find a real breakfast after DH gets up and we are dressed.

It's another incredibly windy day here in VA Beach. I hope it calms down, could make golf a real challenge for me. I haven't played since before my BMX and honestly not much at all the year before. I'm guessing this will be a swingfest and I'll be just pitching and putting by about the 12th hole!

    Have a great Saturday, ladies!

Thanks for the compliments on the photo ladies...you are all so kind!  It was taken while on our cruise in January and what it doesn't show is the little animal that our cabin steward made out of towels...so cute.  That's why I'm smiling...we came back to our room and it was perched in the middle of the bed:)

Had a birthday dinner with one of my BF's sons last night, then he stayed over and they went to play golf this morning, leaving me to begin the Easter dinner fixings, which is fine because I work better when I'm alone.  Naturally I forgot a few things at the store, so I'll make yet another trip!

Debbie:  I'll try to get DD's recipe for the upside down cake, but she usually doesn't have one...just throws things together and they always turn out well.  She's a much better cook than me, and does everything from scratch where I take all the shortcuts I can find.  When she's done cooking, every pan in the kitchen is dirty...she cooks but doesn't clean... that's my job:)

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!  Don't eat too many Easter eggs!

Debbie   so sorry you guys got that flu...but on the other hand..good thing it was the flu.  So funny about your husband...they are like babies when they are sick.  If my Dh ever retires we are in big trouble because he doesnt know how to do anything else but work.

Kaar  love your new avitar.  My mom always made the best upside down cake,, and i have never made one. I am making a cake today, though, where you add mandarin oranges to the mix and bake and then the frosting is coolwhip with pudding and crushed peineapple, very light and moist and springlike!

Last night we went to a local winery that our friend band played at and watched the full moon come up over the lake. It was supposed to be a special moon for some reason...there was a psychic there and she did a spiritual saying while everyone held hands and worshipped the moon HUH? Anyways went to dinner after and had an awesome fish fry.

Laurie  very cute pics  All those eggs look surprised!! maybe they know they are going to get eaten LOL

Apple Hoping you are feeling better and able to eat some yummy Easter dinner. Maybe melt that chocolate bunny down and pour him over some ice cream...

    Happy Easter Everyone

Lacey- Yes you were up late, i thougth i was the only night owl lol! Sounds like you had a busy day and evening hope you got some rest!

Michelle-Oh i dont like those complimentary hotel breakfasts either they always taste so horrible to me. Hope the winds die down and you get a good golf game in.

Apple- Your brisket sounds good, have you shared the marshellow salad recipe yet? It sounds really good. I make one crushed pineapples, cream cheese, marshmellows, cool whip and cherrys that is really awesom, but would love to have your recipe if your sharing ;-))

Kaara-Thats how my mom cooked too she just threw things together and it always came out perfect. I always say a  messy cook is a good cook! LoL!

Carrie- DH went to work today, yay! im glad he is feeling better i was worried about him but he did look pale this morning when he left. but yes he is a big baby when he is sick, he does this whisper thing when hes sick as if he has lost his voice lol, i baby him of course and take good care of him but i do have to giggle how men are when they are sick. Funny story on the full moon and pysic, good thing no warewolfs came out! lol

i don't know if i made my mom's recipe right.. a carton of sour cream, marshmallows, mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks and small marshmallows. i think i will add some whipped cream or cool whip tomorrow. . it looks kind of funny... needs some decadent creaminess. i think my mom added cherries.  that's what it needs, but i am not going to the store.. i'm done.

Debbie, I've always been nocturnal....at least until recently, when I mostly do not dare try to stay up like I used to....even if I could.....last night being the exception. I also have a job that requires me to rise at 6AM, so that's not conducive to late night adventures. My favorite aunt was a night owl, and so much fun to be with (I think she actually had a serious sleep disorder!) and I stayed at their house a lot on weekends and summers so I think I learned how to enjoy the wee hours there...and it stuck. Then my first son was born at 10PM and that was always his alert time ....brutal when he was a baby.....payback to me! Glad your DH felt well enough to return to work...hope he continues to gain his strength back....it's been quite a month for you guys!

Had fun catching up with our neighbors at the egg hunt and coffee this morning...this little annual event is like the Spring emergence and reconnection for the neighborhood after the shut-in winter.... even tho this last one wasn't bad at all.

    Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

Lacey- I always worked the night shift at the restaurnts i worked at, i would get home around midnight or later and then it would take me at least an hour or two to unwind, i cant seem to get out of that mode. its a joke with my family and friends if debbie wants to see the sunrise she has to stay up all night lol!

Just talked to my friend on the phone and she has no plans for tomorrow so we are going out to dinnr, first time on a holiday we will go out and not cook. She wants thai food or mexican not my choice on easter but i told her that sounds good.

    Happy Easter every one!!!

Apple:  Your Mom's fruit salad sounds like Mom's except she added 1 cup cocoanut.  Sometimes she added bananas, pitted cherries, or nuts.  Yours may be more creamy after a night in the fridge.   But of course my Mom usually made fruit salad with a cooked base because my Dad liked that better.  Sort of like she made fresh yeast rolls for most dinners.  Times were different.

Debbie:  Anything else in your Mom's salad besides the cream cheese & of course the fruit

Went to a nice Italian family restaurant tonight.  Chicken Franchese with artichokes & mushrooms in a lemon sauce w/angel hair.  My friend had Linguine w/white clams - hard to find that made well in Texas.

Minustwo- No thats it, just pineapple, cream cheese, cool whip and cherries, its so easy and yet so yummy for not having to many ingredients in it. It taste even better the next day. It was not my moms though i got it off a tv show with Beth stern (howared sterns wife) making this and i thought it sounded good.

Just got through watching the decendants on payperview, it was not as good as i thought it was going to be. i was dissapointed, i remember some of you said it wasnt that good, i agree! the only thing good about it was the popcorn i made during it lol!

Debbie:  But wasn't the scenery in the Decendants great?  Otherwise I was surprised it won awards.

    debbie6122 Member Posts: 2,935

Minustwo- I loved the scenery, i just thought it was going to be more about hawaii, it was just depressing for me, if George clooney wasnt in it i dont think i would of finished watching it. They should of called it The depressants not the descendants lol!

ok - so i smoked the brisket for a bit yesterday before the 4 year old gas grill totally gave up the ghost and i will bake it today..

how do y'all bake yours?  I am thinking 250 for 5 hours.. slice and rewarm with bbq sauce (the old family way).

recipes are all over the place as to baking time)  it smoked at about 250 for a couple hours. .. just enought time to get it smokey.

apple:  That's how my cousin from Texas does his....about 5 to 7 hours at a very low temp in the oven, and you know Texans know how to bbq!

I'm up early this morning to start my turkey breast so I'll have room in the oven to cook my side dishes later.  DD can't understand why I don't remodel the kitchen and get a double oven...lol.  Not for just the few months we spend in Florida...I'm done with remodeling.  Have to remember to hide the eggs before the grands get here later.

Hope everyone has a blessed Easter!

Instead of cooking dinner today I'll be doing Easter Breakfast at the Senior Center today.  We serve breakfast every Sunday but try to make Easter a little more festive than the usual.  Except foe the home made buiscits and gravey every thing is cooked to order from the menu. No set meals, just order what ever you want.  Wish you were all close enough to join us.

Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends. Rick just left to go play golf and I will be heading to the sand in a few minutes. It's supposed to be in the low 70s and the howling wind has subsided so it's going to be a lovely beach day.

Joyce - woohoo on the clear MRI!!!

Apple - do you need to add cream cheese to your fruit salad? Just a thought.

Michelle- Hope you get to enjoy some wind free weather.  It sound slike it's getting nicer down ther, so glad.

Debbie- Have fun with your friend having your own dinner.  Sounds like fun to me!

Apple- I hope your dinner goes well and that you are able to enjoy it food wise.

Chabba- WOW!  What else can I say?  That sounds amazing.  They are so lucky to have you.

Carrie, Deb, Lacey, Hauntie, Bedo, Lexi, Kay and EVERYONE I am missing I hope you had a wonderful day!

This weekend has been nuts and we are now officially in quiet time for the rest of the day.  Yesterday we went to a pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt in our town then off to soccer.  Today we had church in the morning and then dinner at my in laws.  She does a great job on her turkey gravy, it was a great meal.  The boys have had waaayy too much sugar, but we allow them to be bad for one day.  Tonight once they go to bed it will all be bagged and put away.  My youngest did not nap today and is in crash mode at the moment.  At least for him that means laying quiet by the fire, lol!

Hope everyone had a great day with family.  Here is a picture of the boys just after church when I caught them sneaking more candy.

Debbie, my biscuits are a my own recipe, a combination of sourdough and buttermilk.  This morning one of our members brought in strawberries so instead of having one with gravy I fixed myself a strawberry shortcake with it.  Yum!

Had a great time tonight, a bunch of people we know showed up and it was a sing and dance fest ( not me) but it was fun. Dinner sucked though, i had a stuffed sole with shrimp and crab topped with a holendaise sauce everything was good but the sole, it was way underdone and really mushy. But they do make the best clam chowder other than my brothers this is so good. if anyone wants the recipe you could google it just type in sea hag clam chowder in depot bay. oregon, if that dosnt work i will paste it here if anyone wants it.
