Happy Birthday Michelle! Happy Birthday Ducky!
Apple enjoy your dinner! DH #1 was a Banker, they serve good food at those events You'll look better than anyone there! Is your salad really filling? It looks good, I'll have to try it.
Debbie, here's a healthy smoothie with Cayenne pepper, since you like it. Tell me what you think!
Carole, DH #2 used to pull those catfish out of the lake in Alabama. I never want to see them again! They're scary to me! But they are the most expensive fish in Bush Alaska! Everyone loves them! I hope your BP gets under control
Laurie, I hope your heart is OK
DD dropped off her dog before going to India yesterday Left message, "Leave your key in the hiding place so I can pick up my check and leave my dog, I need you to watch her. Please have your friend call in travel medications, PS has she done it yet???? I need it today!!!
She cracks me up.I know I should be mad, but I'm not. I need a BIG present from India.
Making the pasta for the mushroom sauce Debbie and others suggested tonight.

Apple: One of the nice things about being retired is that I never have to go to another cocktail party or "corp. dinner" unless I choose to go:) What I always hated were the salespeople who picked that time to get in your face and complain. One time we went to Joe's Stone Crab in Miami and I was really looking forward to my crab claws but by the time a couple of sales agents got hold of me and talked my arm off, the crab claws had been taken away...I was so annoyed. Those days are over for me....yea! You're a guest tonight, so just relax, smile, and enjoy the experience!

Just got off the phone with JoyceK, she is doing great. Her home computer crashed, which explains her absence. She and her DH are going to dinner with us tomorrow night, so it will be a very fun night!

It must be nice that you live close to each other.
Toasted tuna sandwiches for supper tonight. When DH gets home from his store it is just too late to cook a big meal. It's not good to eat so late.

Dinner out again tonight. BF and I went for our IV infusions then up to a golf store to look for some used clubs for me. By the time we headed home we decided to stop and have a quick bite at a small seafood restaurant. I had fish tacos and he had grilled mahi mahi. Tomorrow night I am picking him up from a golf tournament and will join him for dinner with his friends. I was not giving up the car tomorrow as it is my day to visit DGD and I haven't seen her in over 10 days! I need a grandma fix! DS says she has been asking every day if I'm coming to see her. They love so unconditionally at that age.

Hey Deb - you're not late for me, my birthday is tomorrow!
Kaara - you're so right about grandkids loving us unconditionally. I got a big dose today!!!

Ladies..............................thanks, I feel like I have had several birthdays...........my best friends are making my birthday last longer..........and you know who you are...............love you all....

Thanks, Ducky! I'm counting on leftovers!!! Actually, half my "free" dinner from tonight is in the fridge. It will feed DH tomorrow for lunch while I take my mom out.
Speaking of my mom...she actually called me today! I didn't think she was still capable of it, but the phone rang and I saw it was her number. My heart sank as I immediately assumed one of the nursing staff was calling from her apartment, but it was actually her. I guess she had missed a call so she wanted to know if I had just called her. I know it might sound trivial, but it's a pretty big deal that she thought it through and figured out how to call my number, even though I have it pre-programmed on her phone.

michelle....good for your mom! And a nice pre-birthday gift for you. Enjoy your day!

Birthdays, corporate dinners - hope everyone is having fun.
Bedo - I saw that same "green smoothie" clip today. I hope someone here tries it since I can't quite get my mind around the color.
Laurie - when did you say you're going back in to the doc?

I am off to bed but wanted to check in before I did. I have officially declared the "heart thing" the saga. I will write more tomorrow, but right now I have an appointment with the cardiologist for 5/11. But....I have been having pain in my implant for the past few days and called the one Dr who loves me, my PS. I am going to see him tomorrow at 8. I chatted with his nurse today who I have gotten to know very well through it all and she is thinking the same as I am. Dental infection, PVC's and breast discomfort. We are hoping we are wrong....but we shall see. Tonight I asked DH if one implant felt different from the other, he agreed the left is harder and doesn't give the same. So....maybe I am wrong, maybe I am right. It may solve the PVC's if I get a nice big dose of antibiotics. If I am wrong it is the cardiologists turn in a week and a half or so.
I swear- I feel like I am on candid camera.

Michelle- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Its not midnight here but it is there so it is officially your BD. Hope you have a great day and night out with your family and friends. Your not getting older.. just better!! I think thats how that goes. anyway, have a great day. Im glad you got ahold of Joyce and she is doing fine. have a nice night with her tomorrow or tonight!0

Bedo-That smoothie sounds and looks really good i will have to try it, wish there for an actual recipe for it, it is only a video but will watch it again and write it down. Thanks!
Michelle- Oh, that dosn't sound trival at all when it comes to your mom, I would of panic'd also. Glad she was ok though.
Laurie- So, are you thinking this is all because of the implant? Gosh, you have been through so much. Please let us know as soon as you get back from your BS tomorrow. I wish you could get in sooner to the cardiologist and didnt have to wait that long, but hope you wont need him and find out its somthing else that can be fixed right away. I wish i could tell you, you've been punk'd!! Praying for you everyday!!

I try to have a green smoothie every day, made from romaine, kale, apple, zuccini, red and orange sweet peppers, pineapple and strawberries. I throw a couple of scoops of protein powder in and it makes enough for several days of drinking. Add water to give it the consistency you like. I do it up in our Vita Mix blender. The fruit gives it a sweeter flavor, but whatever you do, don't try it with watercress...I did that on Monday and it had a very peppery taste..yuk! I stared mine down and drank it anyway, not wanting to waste such good veggies, but the BF would not touch his. Won't do that again!
Laurie...hope you get some answers today and maybe some antiobiotics. Regardless, I would still see the cardiologist. Best case, they will do a complete workup and you will know that your heart is fine. Are your PVC's getting better?

very embarrassing.. i fell asleep during the 'talk' that lasted at least an hour.. bad thing was - I was at the table of honorees. The talker was excellent and i meant to apologize to him afterwards, but couldn't find him. The dinner (at least the meat, chicken i think) was awful.. the veggies and salad were very good.
They cut the wing bone off of the chicken carcass and pulled the breast meat (and the skin) off the ribcage, and baked it with a rather tasteless sauce of chicken stock, mushrooms and cornstarch.. the chicken was pretty gray, but not dried up. It looked like some small, alien animal from a colorless planet, with the little bone and wing meat sticking up. ( i would make a merciless food critic, knowing exactly how everything is made) . The food industry (particularly for corporate/ institutional cooking) is full of premade soups, entrees, bread doughs, icings and sauces in bags, and has all these additives. At least the public is being educated about wholesome, organic and locally grown food choices.
thank you debbie downer... I'll cook something very fresh tonite.

Apple: I'll bet you weren't the only one who fell asleep during the talk! Perhaps the talk should have been given before dinner and wine was served....lol!

Thanks Joycek...........................enjoy your dinner....................hugs.

Apple Good for you for even going in the first place. I think I would have played the cancer card for that one. We need you here as the "Debbie downer" when it comes to food....someone to enlighten us as to what were are really eating when we go out.
tonight we are going to an oldtime local italian restaurant. Our friend that is going thru treatment for lung cancer has decided that he is feeling good enough to go out and socialize a bit, so he made the decision where to go and what time and all. It will be so good to see him as he has been absent from our outings for awhile.
Just found out that my son in Ohio (who graduates next weekend) got the full time engineering job that he has been interning at Yahoo last kid off the mom and dad payroll!! We are all going to ohio next Friday for his graduation and I cannot wait to see him though sad that he will not be coming home with us. We now have each kid exactly 5 1/2 hrs away from us in opposite directions.

Apple- Im sure everyone else was wishing they could sleep during the "talk" too. I was cracking up at the description of the "Alien looking chicken" Needed a good laugh this morning!
Kaara- I will have to try your smoothie too, although i love peppery kind of stuff and really like watercress plus its suppose to be very good for you, so might try a small batch with just the watercress and another one without- wish I had a vita-mix machine but they are to darn expensive.
Joyce- Yay! for checking in. Have a fun night with Michelle on her BD this evening.
Carrie- Congrats on your DS getting the job, sounds like a good one too at that. Sorry about your friend. Hope he enjoys himself out tonight. I live 4 1/2 hrs from my dad, its not a bad drive and love the scenery.
I dont know why it did bold letters (sorry)
I just love the saying"Debbie Downer" not! LOL!

Laurie- How did your appointment go this morning?? I'm worried about you!

Okay, Apple, so now is the time that you need to ask DH to take you out to a real dinner, where you can have fond connections to making the delicacies you are eating....NOT alien chicken parts! Please do this for yourself....and DH. There was never anything pleasing about the corporate dinners DH and I frequently used to attend, so I wasn't surprised about your experience. Yuk! You need to turn up the pleasure knob and propose something wonderful for both of you. Good luck!
Laurie....hope your appt went well....so happy you have a doc you feel a great connection with!
Carrie, congratulations on your son's success...very sweet even if it is at a distance. I also hate that my DS1 and family live 4+ hours away, but I can't complain since they are happy in their professions there, and I, myself, bolted from my home state right after college to my pursue my dream in Beantown.0 -
Had an absolutely wonderful prime rib meal today. Prime rib is not something to cook for one, but it's even harder to find a good slice in a restaurant. This was medium rare and melted in the mouth. Meat and two sides was $13.99 on the lunch menu - which of course was my dinner at mid-day. I'll be going back there again soon. Tonight was a brownie & a glass of chardonnay since I'm still full.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Had an awesome day yesterday...visited my DGD and took her to the park playground. She is so independent now and wants to do everything by herself...climbing, walking across the little narrow places, jumping on the cross bridge. Grandma gets nervous that she is going to fall and hurt herself, but she is very cautious as she does these things and seems to know exactly what she is doing. One problem...she hates to leave and pitches a fit, but I have a little treat in the car for her..a peanut butter cracker which she loves, so she settles right down. When I give it to her she says "Oh..thank you!"
After that I joined the BF at his golf tournament for dinner and had a very nice meal...big salad, two slices of roast beef, and a small piece of cornbread that qualified as dessert it was so sweet. We passed on the ice cream sundays. Lots of golf talk, but the guys are fun to be around. Some of them were a little over beveraged and feeling no pain:)
It's raining buckets outside right now, so guess I'll be inside today doing laundry:(

MinusTwo - I love prime rib, medium rare, with a little horseradish sauce!
Kaara - sounds like you had a great day with DGD. We have found that giving the kiddies a "5 minute warning" before it's time to end a fun activity helps to soften the blow of leaving. That usually works. I've enjoyed many a post-golf-tournament meal with our friends from the golf club where we were members for 15 years. It's always fun to listen to the guys remember every stroke, every lie, on every hole, then comment that they can't remember a 3-item grocery list!!!
We had a fabulous dinner with JoyceK and her DH last night. Great food and a couple bottles of Prosecco made for a great birthday dinner with lots of laughter. DH and I both brought home half our dinners, so tomorrow's lunch is ready to eat.

Laurie, you must be feeling besieged by all these maladies. If you're experiencing contracture with the implant, I believe that's not difficult to fix. I have two silicone implants, too, from recon.
Too much going on with all you ladies on this thread to comment individually, but I have read all the posts and commented mentally! Maybe the vibes will come through.
I'm not a grandma but am an aunt who has helped clothe one niece's three small children. The only time the clothes look really cute are the first time the kids wear them because their mom has mental problems and character problems like laziness. Yesterday I began shopping for summer clothes for 2yr-old girl, 7 yr old girl and 9yr old boy. I went to a local GoodWill store across from the country club subdivision where I play golf. This store gets great merchandise from people who couldn't be bothered with a garage sale. I found 3 adorable sundresses for the 2 yr old for $1.99 each. They didn't look worn at all. One still had the tag on it. Found a cute sundress for the 7 yr old, too.
Next I went to a consignment store for children and found a few items there. Now I'm ready to venture to the retail stores like Target and Kohl's. It's such fun buying for the girls. Not so much fun for the boy.
Back to the subject of the thread. Lunch yesterday after golf was an oyster salad. Crispy plump fried oysters with roasted pecans and chopped egg on salad greens. Remoulade dressing was yummy.
Dinner last night was Chicken Improvised! Planned to do Chicken Salsa but ran into a BBQ sauce entrepreneur in the supermarket who was selling his bottled sauce. He was a local man so I bought a couple of bottles after sampling his sausage and peppers. Arrived home while DH was making martinis and enlisted his help. Threw the chicken pieces into the electric fry pan. Poured a bottle of the sauce over all. DH was chopping up red and yellow peppers in big pieces and a couple of onions in halves. Also a jalopeno pepper he found in the veggie drawer. Cooked with the cover and then toward the last removed the cover so the sauce could thicken. Turned out really good. Side dish of mashed potatoes with new potatoes from the CSA supply of veggies.
Today is bread baking day. Took the starter out of the freezer last night and it is bubbling. DH really likes this rustic bread I bake. We hardly buy sandwich bread now.
A beautiful Saturday here. I must go walk 3 miles. Hope everyone has a great day.

Kaara oh my goodness I love your term "over beveraged" gonna have to remember that one!
We had 12 people show up for our dinner last night! OMG I had told the restaraunt 8 but the people just kept multiplying! I really think our friend had a great time though. Says he is not doing any more chemo as he has decided on quality of life over quantity and was tired of being in bed sick all the time. Summer is coming and I know he wants to be able to jet ski on the lake...he is like an energizer bunny normally and has the need for speed all the time. Oh and I had chicken saltimbooca that was devine....brought home leftovers.
Laurie hope you are feeling ok and are able to enjoy the weekend.
Minustwo I agree it is so hard to get a good prime rib but sounds like you did at a great price too!
Well the sun is shining but deceiving only about 40 degrees out. I am off to lowes to get some paint and pain the bathroom....ooooh lucky me.

The prime rib talk is making me drool. I didn't think I would miss red meat, but I do. Stupid cancer.
